"Ciao Adios" is a song by English singer and songwriter Anne-Marie. After performing it live in preview at KOKO, on 28 November 2016, it was released as the second single from her upcoming debut studio album on 10 February 2017,[1] the song was written by Anne-Marie alongside Jenn Decilveo, Mason Levy, and Tom Meredith,[2] with Meredith and Levy (MdL) handling production.[1]

Composition[edit]

"Ciao Adios" is a "dancehall-inflected"[3] song. The song's lyrics refers to a girl that finds out that the guy she is dating is cheating on her, and therefore she decides not to waste further time by leaving him: "Ciao, Adios, I'm done" (ciao and adiós are respectively the Italian and Spanish words to say "bye").

Live performances[edit]

Anne-Marie performed "Ciao Adios" live in preview at KOKO, on 28 November 2016, she also performed the song on her 2016 tour.[4]

Music Video[edit]

"Ciao Adios" music video was released on 9 March 2017 on YouTube and is featuring Anne-Marie with her girl gang dancing in Marrakech (Morocco) with plenty of colors. [5]

Critical reception[edit]

"Ciao Adios" has received favorable reviews from critics. Steph Evans of Earmilk gave the single a positive review, writing "'Ciao Adios' is relatable, catchy and will probably get stuck in your head. And if there's one drawback from the release of this single, it's that we can't see it performed live with Anne-Marie’s fun stage antics."[4] CelebMix also responded to the song positively, writing: "You may expect a break-up anthem based on the content of the song but...It is actually not. 'Ciao Adios' is, similar to her previous anthem 'Alarm', a catchy, feel-good tune that will leave you screaming 'Ciao adios I'm done' at the top of your lungs even though you may not feel like that at all. It is empowering and it will be stuck in your head for the next couple of days and weeks."[1]

Chart performance[edit]

In the UK and Ireland "Ciao Adios" reached numbers 9 and 13, respectively,[6] the song gave Marie her first solo top 10 single in the UK.[7][8]
