In music, a single or record single is a type of release, typically a song recording of fewer tracks than an LP record, an album or an EP record. This can be released for sale to the public in a variety of different formats, in most cases, a single is a song that is released separately from an album, although it usually also appears on an album. Typically, these are the songs from albums that are released separately for promotional uses such as digital download or commercial radio airplay and are expected to be the most popular, in other cases a recording released as a single may not appear on an album. As digital downloading and audio streaming have become prevalent, it is often possible for every track on an album to also be available separately. Nevertheless, the concept of a single for an album has been retained as an identification of a heavily promoted or more popular song within an album collection. Despite being referred to as a single, singles can include up to as many as three tracks on them. The biggest digital music distributor, iTunes, accepts as many as three tracks less than ten minutes each as a single, as well as popular music player Spotify also following in this trend. Any more than three tracks on a release or longer than thirty minutes in total running time is either an Extended Play or if over six tracks long. The basic specifications of the single were made in the late 19th century. Gramophone discs were manufactured with a range of speeds and in several sizes. By about 1910, however, the 10-inch,78 rpm shellac disc had become the most commonly used format, the inherent technical limitations of the gramophone disc defined the standard format for commercial recordings in the early 20th century.26 rpm. With these factors applied to the 10-inch format, songwriters and performers increasingly tailored their output to fit the new medium, the breakthrough came with Bob Dylans Like a Rolling Stone. Singles have been issued in various formats, including 7-inch, 10-inch, other, less common, formats include singles on digital compact cassette, DVD, and LD, as well as many non-standard sizes of vinyl disc. Some artist release singles on records, a more common in musical subcultures. The most common form of the single is the 45 or 7-inch. The names are derived from its speed,45 rpm. The 7-inch 45 rpm record was released 31 March 1949 by RCA Victor as a smaller, more durable, the first 45 rpm records were monaural, with recordings on both sides of the disc. As stereo recordings became popular in the 1960s, almost all 45 rpm records were produced in stereo by the early 1970s

Poison is an American rock band that achieved great commercial success in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. Poison has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has sold 15 million records in the United States alone. The band has also charted ten singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles and the Hot 100 number-one, Every Rose Has Its Thorn. The bands breakthrough album, the multi-platinum Look What the Cat Dragged In, was released in 1986 and they hit their peak with the second album, Open Up. Ahh. which became the bands most successful album, being certified 5x platinum in the US, the popularity continued into the new decade with their third consecutive multi-platinum selling album, Flesh & Blood. In the 2000s, with the line up back together. The band began the new decade with the release of the long-awaited Crack a Smile. followed by the Power to the People album. The band toured almost every year to sold out stadiums and arenas, Band members have released several solo albums and starred in successful reality TV shows. After 25 years, the band is still recording music and performing, since their debut in 1986, they have released seven studio albums, four live albums, five compilation albums, and have issued 28 singles to radio. In 2012 VH1 ranked them at #1 on their list of the Top 5 Hair Bands of the 80s, Poison was formed in 1983, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and consisted of lead vocalist Bret Michaels, guitarist Matt Smith, bassist Bobby Dall and drummer Rikki Rockett. Michaels began his career with a basement band called Laser and, then, in 1979. In 1980, Michaels and Rockett teamed up with Smith and Dall to form the band Paris, arriving in Los Angeles, the group struggled to survive away from home with no family and no money, but the band was determined to make it. Poison promoted themselves up and made the rounds performing in the local clubs. During this period, Poisons manager negotiated a deal under which the West Hollywood club, at this time, Smith, who was about to become a father and was concerned about the bands future, left the band to return home to Pennsylvania. C. Although Michaels and Dall did not initially get along with him, Michaels, Rockett, Dall, and DeVille signed to independent label Enigma Records in 1986 for approximately $30,000. Their debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In, was released August 2,1986. With heavy rotation on MTV, their debut earned the band tours with fellow glam rockers Ratt, Cinderella, the album ultimately sold 4 million copies worldwide. Flesh & Blood is the third studio album by American glam metal band Poison, released in 1990 through the Enigma label of Capitol Records. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts and it sold over 7.2 million copies worldwide. The album spawned two top 10 singles, Unskinny Bop and Something to Believe In, as well as three other hit singles, Ride The Wind, Life Goes On, and Sacrifice, Flesh & Blood was certified Platinum in 1990 and Triple Platinum in 1991 by the RIAA. It has also certified by CAN 4x platinum and by BPI gold. The album was recorded and mixed at Little Mountain Sound Studios, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with Canadian producer Bruce Fairbairn, the front cover of the album featured the Poison logo and album title as a tattoo on Rikki Rocketts arm. The cover was originally planned to have a different version of the tattoo cover that featured the tattoo after being freshly inked. This showed the skin as red and inflamed with dripping ink or blood and this cover was pulled though and instead a cleaned up tattoo was shown. The original cover was released for the initial pressing in Japan but was removed from all later pressings. The record’s marketing reflected the end of the extreme elements in Poison’s glam image, including its excessive make-up and teased, girlish hair. Parts of the album reflected a darker, more serious side to the band, touching themes such as times and overcoming them, missing loved ones, long-term relationships. The fun side of the band remained intact, however, in dealing with sex, exhilaration from music or motorbikes. The meaning of Unskinny Bop, one of the bands most popular songs, has always shrouded in obscurity. DeVille later confessed that the phrase unskinny bop has no particular meaning and he invented it as a temporary measure while writing the song, before vocalist Bret Michaels had begun working on the lyrics. The phrase was used on the basis that it was suited to the music. The song was played to producer Fairbairn, who stated that although he did not know what an unskinny bop was. Flesh & Blood was voted Best Album in Circus magazines 1990 Readers Poll, while Something to Believe In was voted Best Single. The album was connected to three Metal Edge Readers Choice Awards in 1990, when the readers voted it for Album of the Year and Something to Believe In for Song of the Year. Glam metal

Glam metal is a subgenre of heavy metal which features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, and borrows from the fashion of 1970s glam rock. Glam metal can be traced back to acts like Alice Cooper, Boston, Cheap Trick, Kiss, The New York Dolls. It was popular throughout the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, bringing to prominence bands including Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella, Glam metal was associated with flashy clothing and makeup. Poison, for example, had long shaggy or backcombed hair, accessories, metal studs, leather, Glam metal lost mainstream interest in the early 1990s as the perceived excesses of glam metal created a backlash against the genre. A factor in the decline of metal was the rise of grunge in the early 1990s, which had a stripped-down aesthetic. Musically, glam metal combines a traditional metal sound with elements of hard rock and punk rock, adding pop-influenced catchy hooks. Like other heavy metal songs of the 1980s, they often feature shred guitar solos and they also include extensive use of harmonies, particularly in the characteristic power ballads – slow, emotional songs that gradually build to a strong finale. These were among the most commercially successful singles in the genre, lyrical themes often deal with love and lust, with songs often directed at a particular woman. Aesthetically glam metal draws heavily on the rock or glitter rock of the 1970s, often with very long backcombed hair, use of make-up, gaudy clothing. The visual aspects of glam metal appealed to television producers, particularly MTV. Glam metal performers became infamous for their debauched lifestyles of drugs, strippers and late-night parties, sociologist Deena Weinstein points to the large number of terms used to describe more commercial forms of heavy metal, which she groups together as lite metal. Use of the derogatory term hair metal started in the early 1990s, Music journalist Stephen Davis claims the influences of the style can be traced back to acts like Aerosmith, Kiss, Boston, Cheap Trick, and The New York Dolls. Kiss and to a lesser extent Alice Cooper, were influences on the genre. Finnish band Hanoi Rocks, heavily influenced themselves by the New York Dolls, have been credited with setting a blueprint for the look of hair metal. Van Halen has been seen as influential on the movement, emerging in 1978 from the Los Angeles music scene on Sunset Strip. He popularized a technique of two‐handed hammer‐ons and pull‐offs called tapping. This sound, and lead singer David Lee Roths stage antics, would be influential on glam metal. Capitol Records, LLC is an American record label which operates as a division of the Capitol Music Group. The label was founded as the first West Coast-based record label in the United States in 1942 by three industry insiders named Johnny Mercer, Buddy DeSylva and Glenn Wallichs, in 1955, the label was acquired by the British music conglomerate EMI as its North American subsidiary. EMI was later acquired by Universal Music Group in 2012 and was merged with the company in 2013, making Capitol Records, Capitol Records circular headquarter building located in Los Angeles is a recognized landmark of California. Mercer first raised the idea of starting a company while golfing with Harold Arlen. By 1941, Mercer was a songwriter and a singer with multiple successful releases. Mercer next suggested the idea to Wallichs while visiting his record store, Wallichs expressed interest in the idea and the pair negotiated an agreement whereby Mercer would run the company and identify their artists, while Wallichs managed the business side. On February 2,1942, Mercer and Wallichs met with DeSylva at a Hollywood restaurant to inquire about the possibility of investment of the company from Paramount Pictures, while DeSylva declined the proposal, he handed the pair a check worth $15,000. On March 27,1942, the three men incorporated as Liberty Records, in May 1942, the application was amended to change the companys name to Capitol Records. On April 6,1942, Mercer supervised Capitols first recording session where Martha Tilton recorded the song Moon Dreams, on May 5, Bobby Sherwood and his orchestra recorded two tracks in the studio. On May 21, Freddie Slack and his orchestra recorded three tracks in the studio, one with the orchestra, one with Ella Mae Morse called Cow-Cow Boogie, on June 4,1942, Capitol opened its first office in a second-floor room south of Sunset Boulevard. On that same day, Wallichs presented the companys first free record to Los Angeles disc jockey Peter Potter, on June 5,1942, Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra recorded four songs at the studio. On June 12, the recorded five more songs in the studio. On June 11, Tex Ritter recorded Jingle Jangle Jingle and Goodbye My Little Cherokee for his first Capitol recording session, and the songs formed Capitols 110th produced record. 133 - Get On Board Little Chillun - July 31,1942 - is a Freddie Slack/Ella Mae Morse/Mellowaires recording that might be the first rock n roll record and she has sometimes been called the first rock n roll singer. A good example is her 1942 recording of song which, with strong gospel, blues, boogie. Bone Walker recorded Mean Old World a pioneering example of the use of electric guitar. The earliest recording artists included co-owner Mercer, Whiteman, Tilton, Morse, Margaret Whiting, Jo Stafford, the Pied Pipers, Johnnie Johnston, Tex Ritter, Capitols first gold single was Morses Cow Cow Boogie in 1942. A songwriter is an individual who writes the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions for songs, typically for a popular music genre such as rock or country music. A songwriter can also be called a composer, although the term tends to be used mainly for individuals from the classical music genre. The pressure from the industry to produce popular hits means that songwriting is often an activity for which the tasks are distributed between a number of people. For example, a songwriter who excels at writing lyrics might be paired with a songwriter with a gift for creating original melodies, pop songs may be written by group members from the band or by staff writers – songwriters directly employed by music publishers. Some songwriters serve as their own publishers, while others have outside publishers. The old-style apprenticeship approach to learning how to write songs is being supplemented by university degrees and college diplomas, a knowledge of modern music technology, songwriting elements and business skills are necessary requirements to make a songwriting career in the 2010s. Several music colleges offer songwriting diplomas and degrees with music business modules, the legal power to grant these permissions may be bought, sold or transferred. This is governed by international copyright law, song pitching can be done on a songwriters behalf by their publisher or independently using tip sheets like RowFax, the MusicRow publication and SongQuarters. Skills associated with song-writing include entrepreneurism and creativity, songwriters who sign an exclusive songwriting agreement with a publisher are called staff writers. In the Nashville country music scene, there is a staff writer culture where contracted writers work normal 9-to-5 hours at the publishing office and are paid a regular salary. This salary is in effect the writers draw, an advance on future earnings, the publisher owns the copyright of songs written during the term of the agreement for a designated period, after which the songwriter can reclaim the copyright. In an interview with HitQuarters, songwriter Dave Berg extolled the benefits of the set-up, unlike contracted writers, some staff writers operate as employees for their respective publishers. Under the terms of work for hire agreements, the compositions created are fully owned by the publisher. In Nashville, young writers are often encouraged to avoid these types of contracts. Staff writers are common across the industry, but without the more office-like working arrangements favored in Nashville. All the major publishers employ writers under contract, songwriter Allan Eshuijs described his staff writer contract at Universal Music Publishing as a starter deal. His success under the arrangement eventually allowed him to found his own publishing company, so that he could. keep as much as possible, songwriters are also often skilled musicians. Richard Allan Ream, better known by the stage name Rikki Rockett, is an American drummer for glam metal band, Poison. The band have sold over 45 million records worldwide and have sold 15 million records in the United States alone. The band has also charted ten singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles, richard Allan Ream was born on August 8,1961 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the youngest of two children of Norman and Margaret Ream. He attended Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, before founding Poison with vocalist Bret Michaels, Rockett worked as a hairdresser, lifeguard, dishwasher, Emergency Medical Technician and a suit salesman. Rockett was always a part of Poisons success featuring on every Poison album ever released. The tattoo photo featured on Poisons 1990 album Flesh and Blood is Rocketts right shoulder, the logo was already done a couple of years prior but he added Flesh and Blood in support of the title. The original album still has the blood running from the new tattoo though it was airbrushed out soon after its release. In late-1993, Rockett discovered that the then guitarist Richie Kotzen of Poison was having a relationship with Rocketts fiancee at the time, Kotzen was fired due to this incident. In VH1s Behind The Music, singer Bret Michaels said he never wanted to speak to Kotzen again, Rockett and Brian Cocivera joined forces creating custom built drum kits called the Chop Shop Custom Drum Company. After almost twenty years with Poison, Rockett released his first solo album, the album was a tribute to 1970s glam rock. He also guested on Britny Foxs Bite Down Hard, in 2004 Rikki founded the Brit Iron Rebels, a vintage and modern retro motorcycle Internet-based group dedicated to the British Rocker motorcycle culture of the 50s & 60s. On April 26,2007, Rockett announced the creation of Rockett Drum Works Inc and it is a drum manufacturing company, specializing in the creation of ultra custom drum kits, snare drums and custom accessories. Prior to setting up his enterprise, Rockett worked for Chop Shop Custom Drum and he departed after conflicting opinions with Chop Shop founder Brian Cocivera. Rockett recruited most of the staff from Chop Shop along with some staff members. In conjunction with the 30th anniversary of Star Wars in May 2007, Rockett wore a Star Wars patch on his vest in Poisons Fallen Angel music video and he said that his favorite character is C-3PO. On September 19,2007, Bosphorus Cymbals unveiled the Rockett Ride, in 2015 Rockett co formed a new rock supergroup the Devil City Angels with guitarist Tracii Guns, bassist Eric Brittingham and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Brandon Gibbs. Their self-titled debut album was officially released September 11,2015, in October 2008 Rockett married longtime girlfriend Melanie Martel. Robert Harry Kuykendall, also known as Bobby Dall, is an American musician best known as the bassist for the multi-platinum selling hard rock band Poison. The band have sold over 45 million records worldwide and have sold 15 million records in the United States alone. The band has also charted ten singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles, Dall had ambitions of studying law, but ultimately turned to music instead. He began playing guitar but switched to bass at the age of 15, Dall later moved to Los Angeles with Bret Michaels, Rikki Rockett, and Matt Smith to play with the band Paris, which later became known as Poison. Dall is the youngest of three children and he moved to Florida with his family for a short time, but relocated to Harrisburg when he was still young. Dall has two children, Zachary Brandon and Zoe Brianne, Michaels apologized later and stated, You may have just seen the last concert by Poison in its current formation. The altercation happened before the set ended with Talk Dirty To Me. After some tense moments and Michaels apology to the crowd including his explanation that like brothers, sometimes you have to air things out, the band did finish the set. There have been many conflicts within the band over the years. DeVille is the lead guitarist of the multi-platinum-selling glam metal band Poison. His work with the band has sold over 45 million records worldwide and he has also acted in both reality television and television drama shows. He starred in The Surreal Life season 6 and The Surreal Life, DeVille also formed a solo band in 1998 called Samantha 7. In 2015, DeVille was ranked at one by VH1 as the most underrated hair metal guitarist of the 80s. DeVille was born Bruce Anthony Johannesson in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn and his interest in music began at age two while watching The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. DeVille began playing the guitar at the age of five after he was given a $27 Japanese Telecaster copy, at the age of 18, DeVille auditioned for and eventually joined the band Lace based in Boro Park Brooklyn, NY, which adopted a highly sexual, glam image. It was during time period that DeVille began writing the song Talk Dirty To Me. DeVille began studying music theory at New York University, but never completed his studies, instead, he moved to Los Angeles in 1981 and played in various bands, including Screaming Mimi, Lace Slip, and St. James, before auditioning for Poison. DeVilles audition impressed drummer Rikki Rockett and bassist Bobby Dall, DeVille refused to play the songs that had been given to him as preparation, and instead jammed with a guitar riff he had written. The riff, which would eventually be featured in the Poison single Talk Dirty to Me, DeVille co-wrote Poisons debut album with Bret Michaels, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett. Look What the Cat Dragged In was released on August 2,1986 and it included the hits Talk Dirty to Me, I Want Action, and I Wont Forget You. Sales for the album topped 3 million copies in the United States, DeVille also wrote much of the material for Poisons second album, the multi-platinum selling Open Up And Say. Ahh. which was released on May 21,1988 and would go on to sell 8 million copies worldwide. It included the hit song Nothin But a Good Time, co-written by DeVille, in 1990, Poison released the multi-platinum selling Flesh & Blood, an album which was again largely written by DeVille. During this period, DeVille also performed guitar on Warrants hit song Cherry Pie. Asked to quit, DeVille left Poison and was replaced by guitarist Richie Kotzen, following his departure from Poison, DeVille joined a band called Needle Park and recorded Hey Good Lookin for the soundtrack to the Pauly Shore movie Son In Law. Samantha 7 was a band composed of guitarist DeVille, guitarist Ty Longley, bassist Krys Baratto. Originally the bands name was The Stepmothers, but the band was forced to change their name following a dispute with another band of the same name

A record producer or music producer oversees and manages the sound recording and production of a band or performers music, which may range from recording one song to recording a lengthy concept album. A producer has many roles during the recording process, the roles of a producer vary. The producer may perform these roles himself, or help select the engineer, the producer may also pay session musicians and engineers and ensure that the entire project is completed within the record companies budget. A record producer or music producer has a broad role in overseeing and managing the recording. Producers also often take on an entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, contracts. In the 2010s, the industry has two kinds of producers with different roles, executive producer and music producer. Executive producers oversee project finances while music producers oversee the process of recording songs or albums. In most cases the producer is also a competent arranger, composer. The producer will also liaise with the engineer who concentrates on the technical aspects of recording. Noted producer Phil Ek described his role as the person who creatively guides or directs the process of making a record, indeed, in Bollywood music, the designation actually is music director. The music producers job is to create, shape, and mold a piece of music, at the beginning of record industry, producer role was technically limited to record, in one shot, artists performing live. The role of producers changed progressively over the 1950s and 1960s due to technological developments, the development of multitrack recording caused a major change in the recording process. Before multitracking, all the elements of a song had to be performed simultaneously, all of these singers and musicians had to be assembled in a large studio and the performance had to be recorded. As well, for a song that used 20 instruments, it was no longer necessary to get all the players in the studio at the same time. Examples include the rock sound effects of the 1960s, e. g. playing back the sound of recorded instruments backwards or clanging the tape to produce unique sound effects. These new instruments were electric or electronic, and thus they used instrument amplifiers, new technologies like multitracking changed the goal of recording, A producer could blend together multiple takes and edit together different sections to create the desired sound. For example, in jazz fusion Bandleader-composer Miles Davis album Bitches Brew, producers like Phil Spector and George Martin were soon creating recordings that were, in practical terms, almost impossible to realise in live performance. Hard rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music that began in the mid-1960s, with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. It is typified by a use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums. Hard rock developed into a form of popular music in the 1970s, with bands such as The Who, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, AC/DC. During the 1980s, some rock bands moved away from their hard rock roots and more towards pop rock. Hard rock began losing popularity with the success of R&B, hip-hop, urban pop, grunge. Out of this movement came garage rock bands like The White Stripes, The Strokes, Interpol and, later on, in the 2000s, only a few hard rock bands from the 1970s and 1980s managed to sustain highly successful recording careers. Hard rock is a form of loud, aggressive rock music, the electric guitar is often emphasised, used with distortion and other effects, both as a rhythm instrument using repetitive riffs with a varying degree of complexity, and as a solo lead instrument. Drumming characteristically focuses on driving rhythms, strong drum and a backbeat on snare. The bass guitar works in conjunction with the drums, occasionally playing riffs, vocals are often growling, raspy, or involve screaming or wailing, sometimes in a high range, or even falsetto voice. In the late 1960s, the heavy metal was used interchangeably with hard rock. Heavy metal took on darker characteristics after Black Sabbaths breakthrough at the beginning of the 1970s, in the 1980s it developed a number of subgenres, often termed extreme metal, some of which were influenced by hardcore punk, and which further differentiated the two styles. Despite this differentiation, hard rock and heavy metal have existed side by side, with bands frequently standing on the boundary of, other antecedents include Link Wrays instrumental Rumble in 1958, and the surf rock instrumentals of Dick Dale, such as Lets Go Trippin and Misirlou. In the 1960s, American and British blues and rock bands began to rock and roll by adding harder sounds, heavier guitar riffs, bombastic drumming. From the late 1960s, it common to divide mainstream rock music that emerged from psychedelia into soft. Richard Dale Richie Kotzen, Jr. is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. Richie has a solo career but, since 2012, he is also part of the band The Winery Dogs. Kotzen is signed to California-based Shrapnel Records, Richie Kotzen began playing piano at the age of five. At the age of seven, he was inspired to learn the guitar by the band KISS. He started his career in a band named Arthurs Museum, Kotzen was eventually discovered by Shrapnel Records Mike Varney, and he recorded his first solo album by the age of 19, the first of two instrumental records, simply entitled Richie Kotzen. He created the video Rock Chops for REH video in 1989, highlighting many of his techniques, including using wide-intervals. One year later, a solo album called Fever Dream was released. Since then, Kotzen has released a series of more than twenty albums with musical influences ranging from Rock, Hard Rock, Pop, Blues, Blue-eyed-soul, R&B. In 1991, at age 21, Kotzen joined glam-metal band Poison and this album produced two top-twenty singles which Kotzen co-wrote, Stand and Until You Suffer Some. In 1999, Kotzen replaced Paul Gilbert as guitarist in the rock band Mr. Big. He also contributed guitars to their subsequent release Actual Size, the record included the Kotzen song Shine, which debuted at number one on Japanese radio charts. After Mr. Big disbanded, Kotzen released the solo album Change, the title track and the song Get a Life were featured in TV commercials throughout Japan. In 2002, Kotzen bought a building in Los Angeles and established a recording studio. He has since produced his own acclaimed solo albums and collaborated with figures in rock, jazz and fusion. In 2006, Kotzen was the act for The Rolling Stones in Japan on their Bigger Bang tour. In 2013, the rock supergroup The Winery Dogs released their debut album on May 15 in Japan. Kotzen has described his style as a mix of rock, blues, jazz, fusion, Kotzen utilizes a heavy amount of legato and sweeping in his playing. Look What the Cat Dragged In is the debut studio album by American glam metal band Poison, released on May 23,1986 through Enigma Records. Though not a success at first, it steadily built momentum, the album spawned four singles, three of them charting successfully, Talk Dirty to Me, I Want Action, I Wont Forget You and Cry Tough. It serves as a example of the glam metal genre both musically and image-wise. The album ultimately has sold four million worldwide, one of their best-selling albums. Look What the Cat Dragged In was certified gold in 1987 and it has also been certified silver by the BPI and platinum in Canada. Reflecting a period before the music began to take on the influence of Californian, Van Halen styled stadium rock. The record was described by vocalist Bret Michaels as a glorified demo, the albums themes are ambition, lust, sexual frustration, love lost, and, most importantly, anti-social behavior. Talk Dirty to Me was written by guitarist C. C, deVille prior to his joining the band. Ahh. is the second studio album by American glam metal band Poison, released in 1988 through Enigma Records. It proved to be the bands most successful release, and spawned four hit singles, Nothin but a Good Time, Fallen Angel, Your Mama Dont Dance and their only #1 single to date, Every Rose Has Its Thorn. It peaked at #2 on the US Billboard 200, Open Up And Say Ahh was certified platinum in 1988 and it also has been certified 4x platinum in Canada and gold by the BPI. The album was recorded and mixed at Conway Recording Studios in Los Angeles, paul Stanley from KISS was originally selected to produce the record, but was unable to fulfill the role due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, the worked with Tom Werman. Werman was a rock producer, having worked with artists such as Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Twisted Sister. Following the album was the release of the bands first video titled, Sight for Sore Ears which featured all the music videos from Open Up and Say. Ahh. The original front cover of the album, which featured model Bambi dressed as a red demon with a protruding tongue. The band apologized and changed the cover so that only the eyes were visible. The albums themes are partying, lost innocence, lost love, anti-social behavior, vocalist Bret Michaels allegedly wrote the bands most successful single, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, in response to a failed love affair with a Los Angeles stripper. Poison had been playing at a bar called The Ritz in Dallas, Texas. After the show, Michaels called the woman at her apartment, heartbroken, he wrote the song with an acoustic guitar in a laundromat. The first single Nothin But A Good Time was born from the merger of a riff by C. C. DeVille and a chorus by Michaels, Michaels later explained that he was in search of a kick ass big arena rock song which would make him feel good about his life. The song was not wanting to be held back by working a job and being depressed. The music video for the second single Fallen Angel features model, the fourth single Your Mama Dont Dance was a cover version of the 1972 song written by Loggins and Messina from their 1972 self-titled album. Native Tongue is the fourth studio album by American hard rock band Poison, released in 1993 through Capitol Records. It peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200, #20 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA on April 21,1993 and it features new lead guitarist Richie Kotzen, hired after C. C. DeVille was fired in late 1991, and the singles Stand, Until You Suffer Some, admitted as a full-fledged member of the band rather than a hired gun, Kotzen was given considerable creative freedom. Resultingly, Kotzens writing and performing contributions dominated the album, Kotzen would later be expelled from the band following the world tour, after it was discovered that he had been romantically involved with the fiance of drummer Rikki Rockett. Recollections of the album, while no doubt soured by these events and it was dedicated to Van Halen tour manager Scotty Ross and former Poison guitarist DeVille. The album peaked at #16 on the Billboard chart, the first two singles Stand and Until You Suffer Some featured music videos and charted in the US and the UK. Crack a Smile. and More. is the fifth studio album from the American hard rock band Poison. The record was released on March 14,2000, the album features guitarist Blues Saraceno, who was hired as the bands new lead guitarist following the firing of Richie Kotzen in late 1993. Saraceno appeared on the bands last album release Poisons Greatest Hits, 1986–1996 in 1996 and those two new tracks re-appear on this album along with thirteen new songs and five bonus tracks. The album moved around 12,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at #131 on The Billboard 200 album chart. Crack a Smile, while replete with guitar performances comparable with those on Poisons previous studio record, Native Tongue, contains few traces of the seriousness of that record. The life cycle of Crack a Smile, which began in 1994, was brought to a halt in May 1994. Michaels suffered a nose, ribs, jaw and fingers. After his recovery, the band continued recording in 1995, however, to the groups dismay, Capitol Records had by this time decided to put the album on hold, and instead released a Greatest Hits record in 1996. It was not until March 14,2000 that the record was finally released, the albums eventual release was prompted by strong fan demand, with promotional copies and bootlegs selling for $50 or more. In order to compete with the release, Capitol took the unusual step of throwing in additional bonus tracks to the album. The bootleg version of the contained the original 12 album tracks,6 songs from Poisons MTV Unplugged performance. The final version of the album, titled Crack a Smile. contained the original 12 album tracks, two studio outtakes, one unnamed demo, Face the Hangman, and four of the songs from MTV Unplugged. Saraceno was given creative freedom and his writing and performing contributions dominated the album. The albums studio tracks were recorded at Devonshire Studios, Hollywood, Saraceno plays on these new songs, and original guitarist C. C. DeVille plays on the bonus tracks, which are tracks recorded before this time. The songs Sexual Thing and Lay Your Body Down were first released on Poisons Greatest Hits, shut Up, Make Love, which is the first single presented to radio stations, is a raunchy party anthem. Be the One and Lay Your Body Down are classic power ballads, best Thing You Ever Had brings harmonica and piano to the forefront, while guitarist Blues Saraceno lives up to his name on Mr. Smiley and Thats the Way I Like It. Power to the People is an album by the American rock band Poison, released on June 13,2000 on the bands independent label, Cyanide Music. It marked the return of the lineup, together for the first time since 1991s Swallow This Live with the return of C. C. The album is a studio, part live album consisting of five newly recorded studio tracks and 12 live tracks from Poisons successful 1999–2000 greatest hits reunion tour. The album was re-packaged and re-released in 2006 as Great Big Hits Live, bootleg without the studio tracks or drum and guitar solos. The title track featured a sound which was influenced by contemporary nu metal. In a 2000 interview, Bret Michaels described the song as being a tribute to Poison fans, Michaels has labelled Cant Bring Me Down as one of the most uplifting songs that weve done in a long time. The record brought together Poisons original line-up for the first full studio project since Flesh & Blood, the result was a combination of old and new sounds, with guitarist C. C. Rock and Roll All Nite is a song by Kiss, originally released on their 1975 album Dressed to Kill. It was released as the A-side of their single, with the album track Getaway. The studio version of the peaked at No.68 on the Billboard singles chart, besting the bands previous charting single. A subsequent live version, released as a single in October 1975, eventually reached No.12 in early 1976, Rock and Roll All Nite became Kisss signature song and has served as the groups closing concert number in almost every concert since 1976. In 2008 it was named the 16th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1, the members of Kiss were under intense pressure to put together their third album, 1975s Dressed to Kill. They were abruptly called off tour to work on a follow-up to 1974s Hotter Than Hell when the album began to die on the charts, even though they had no new songs ready. Rushed to come up with material, the band dipped into their backlog of songs, as well as writing new ones. While writing back at the hotel, Stanley came up with the line I want to rock and roll all night, after showing the new line to Simmons, he added parts from an older song, reportedly titled Drive Me Wild. When the song was issued as a single a few months later, with record label Casablanca in deep financial trouble, Kiss was thinking of leaving for another label, but decided to issue a live album, Alive. The live version of the song was longer than the studio take, Rock and Roll All Nite was written by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons while Kiss was still in Los Angeles, as part of their Hotter Than Hell tour. However, during the concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit on January 26,1976, Stanley introduced it as a song that was written in. One of Bogarts instructions to the band was to compose an anthem, the song itself was inspired by the Slade song Cum on Feel the Noize. They wrote the pre-chorus, Stanley wrote the chorus, and Simmons wrote the verses, borrowing parts of a song he had previously written, entitled Drive Me Wild. The song was one of two the group recorded toward the end of the Hotter Than Hell tour, prior to returning to Electric Lady Studios for the proper Dressed to Kill recording sessions. For the choruses, the band and Bogart brought in a group of outside contributors to sing and clap, including members of the Kiss road crew, studio musicians. Some of the crew used their jacket zippers to create sound. While Rock and Roll All Nite would eventually become a fixture in Kisss live performances, nor did it immediately replace Let Me Go, Rock n Roll as the closing number. Kiss performed the song during the ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City which proved to be Ace Frehleys final performance with Kiss to date
