The Hundred and One Dalmatians

The Hundred and One Dalmatians, or the Great Dog Robbery is a 1956 childrens novel by Dodie Smith about the kidnapping of a family of 101 Dalmatian dogs. A sequel, The Starlight Barking, continues from the end of the first novel, at a dinner party attended by the Dearly couple, Cruella de Vil expresses her dislike for animals, subsequently, the couples new Dalmatian puppies disappear. The Dearly dogs are now among 97 puppies who were kidnapped or legally purchased from various owners, through the co-operation of animals and the Twilight barking, the dogs are found in Suffolk, England, and a rescue ensues. Pongo and Missis are a pair of Dalmatians who live with the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Dearly and their two nannies, Nanny Cook and Nanny Butler. Mr. Dearly is a wizard who has been granted lifelong tax exemption. The dogs consider the humans their pets, but allow the humans to think that they are the owners, Missis gives birth to a litter of 15 puppies. Concerned that Missis will not be able to feed them all, Mrs. Dearly looks for a canine wet nurse, and finds an abandoned liver-spotted Dalmatian in the middle of the road in the pouring rain. She has the dog treated by a vet and names her Perdita, Perdita later tells Pongo about her lost love Prince and the resulting litter of puppies which were sold by her owner, and that she had run away looking for those puppies. Mr. and Mrs. Dearly attend a party hosted by Cruella de Vil. The Dearlys are disconcerted by her belief that all animals are worthless, shortly after the dinner party, the puppies disappear. Pongo and Missis try to tell the Dearlys where the puppies are but fail, Pongo tried to say the human word Suffolk, the dogs decide to run away and find the puppies, leaving Perdita to look after the Dearlys. After a journey across the countryside, they meet the Colonel and they learn that there are 97 puppies in Hell Hall, including Pongo and Missis own 15. Cruella de Vil appears and tells the crooks in charge of Hell Hall to slaughter, Pongo and Missis devise a plan to rescue all of the puppies and escape the day before Christmas Eve. Tommy and the Colonel have learned enough of each others languages for communication between them to be possible. When the cart loses a wheel, they rest on the hassocks of a country church, Cruella almost finds them, but the dogs escape in a removal van. Having rolled in soot to disguise themselves, they hide in the darkness of the van with the help of a Staffordshire terrier whose owners are the drivers of the van. Once the dogs roll around to remove the soot from their coats, the litter that pulled Cadpigs cart proved to be Perditas litter by Prince. Mr. Dearly finds where the puppies had been by reading wording on the cart, there are 97 puppies, and three adult Dalmatians, totaling 100

The 17th Disney animated feature film, the film tells the story of a litter of dalmatian puppies who are kidnapped by the villainous Cruella de Vil, who wants to use their fur to make into coats. Their parents, Pongo and Perdita, set out to save their children from Cruella, all the while rescuing 84 additional puppies that were bought in pet shops and it was reissued to cinemas four times, in 1969,1979,1985 and 1991. The 1991 reissue was the twentieth highest earning film of the year for domestic earnings and it was remade into a live action film in 1996. Songwriter Roger Radcliffe lives in a flat in London, along with his dalmatian. Bored with bachelor life, Pongo decides to find a wife for Roger, while watching various female dog-human pairs out the window, he spots the perfect one, a woman named Anita and her female dalmatian, Perdita. He quickly gets Roger out of the house and drags him through the park to arrange a meeting and he and Anita fall in love and get married. Later, Perdita gives birth to a litter of fifteen puppies and that same night, they are visited by Cruella De Vil, a wealthy former schoolmate of Anitas. She offers to buy the litter, but Roger says they are not for sale. A few weeks later, she hires her henchmen, Jasper and Horace, when Scotland Yard is unable to find them, Pongo and Perdita use the Twilight bark, a canine gossip line, to ask for help from the other dogs in London. When Tibbs learns they are going to be made into dog-skin fur coats, upon receiving the message, Pongo and Perdita leave town to retrieve their puppies. Winter has come, and they have to cross the Stour River which is running fast, meanwhile, Tibbs overhears Cruella ordering Jasper and Horace to kill the puppies that night out of fear the police will soon find them. In response, Tibbs attempts to rescue them while Jasper and Horace are preoccupied watching television, Pongo and Perdita break in and confront Jasper and Horace just as they are about to kill the puppies. While the adult dogs attack them, Colonel and Tibbs guide the puppies from the house, after a happy reunion with their own puppies, Pongo and Perdita realize there are dozens of others with them,99 altogether including their own. Shocked at Cruellas plans, they decide to all of them, certain that Roger. They begin making their way back to London through deep snow, other animals help them along the way. Cruella, Jasper, and Horace chase them, in one town, they cover themselves with soot so they appear to be labrador retrievers, then pile inside a moving van bound for London. As it is leaving, melting snow clears off the soot, in a rage, she follows the van in her car and rams it, but Jasper and Horace, who try to cut it off from above, end up crashing into her. Both vehicles are smashed to smithereens and fall into a deep ravine, Cruella yells in frustration as the van drives away but Jasper finally gets the courage to tell her to shut up

101 Dalmatians is a 1996 American live-action family comedy film based on Walt Disneys animated 1961 movie adaptation of Dodie Smiths 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Directed by Stephen Herek and co-produced by John Hughes and Ricardo Mestres, it stars Glenn Close, Hugh Laurie, Mark Williams, Tim McInnerny, Jeff Daniels, in contrast with the 1961 film, none of the animals talk in this version. Released on November 27,1996 by Walt Disney Pictures, the film was praised for its faithfulness to the animated classic and it received mixed reviews, but was a commercial success, grossing $320.6 million in theaters against a $75 million budget. The film was nominated for a BAFTA award for best makeup effects. A theatrical sequel titled 102 Dalmatians was released on November 22,2000 with Close, despite receiving mostly negative reviews,102 Dalmatians was again a commercial success. American video game designer Roger Dearly lives with his pet dalmatian Pongo in London, One day, Pongo sets his eyes on a beautiful female dalmatian named Perdy. After a frantic chase through the streets of London that ends in St. Jamess Park and her owner, Anita Campbell-Green falls in love with Roger when they meet. They both fall into the lake as a result of their dogs chasing each other, but they return to Rogers home and they get married along with Perdita and Pongo. Anita works as a designer at the House of de Vil. Anita, inspired by her dalmatian, designs a coat made with spotted fur, Cruella is intrigued by the idea of making garments out of actual dalmatians, and finds it amusing that it would seem as if she was wearing Anitas dog. Anita soon discovers that Perdy is pregnant and is informed by Nanny that she is, too. Some time later, Cruella visits their home and expresses contempt upon meeting Roger and her initial disgust at them having a baby turns to excitement when she finds out Perdy is expecting too. Several weeks later, she returns when a litter of 15 puppies are born and offers Roger and Anita £7,500 for them and she dismisses Anita and vows revenge against her and Roger. She has her henchmen, Jasper and Horace break into their home and steal the puppies while Roger and Anita are walking in the park with Pongo, along with 84 others dalmatians that were previously stolen, they deliver them to her ancient country estate, De Vil Mansion. She also hires Skinner to kill and skin them to create her coat, a dog who had witnessed the stolen puppies follows Jasper and Horace to the mansion, and finds all of them inside, before helping them escape under the duos noses. They make their way to a farm, where they are later joined by Pongo. Cruella arrives at the mansion and soon discovers what has happened, furious, she decides to carry out the job herself, while Jasper and Horace attempt to search for them also. Meanwhile, Cruella tracks the puppies to the farm where they are hiding, however, they outwit her and cause her to fall into a vat of molasses and get thrown through a window into a pig pen

101 Dalmatians, Escape from DeVil Manor is a computer game created by Disney Interactive. The game was based on the 1996 live-action movie, although the designs were based on the animated film. The plot features two Dalmatian puppies, Patches and Wizzer, and their adventures escaping from captivity in Cruella de Vils mansion, the games perspective is from the puppies point of view, called Puppyvision. The game play is viewed in a known as Puppyvision, in which you have a clear view of the area Patches. Since it is a game, its primary method of controls is to point and click. There are, however, items that can help you escape the manor or get the attention of Cruellas henchmen Horace. Once Patches and Wizzer escape the manor, they flee to the shaft with Cruella in pursuit. Players must time their throw of the barrels of explosives just right in order to land in another pile of explosives, Patches is then awarded with a medal and welcomed into the family as a Dearly Dalmatian

101 Dalmatians: The Series

The show spanned two seasons, with the first episode airing on September 13,1997, and the last episode airing on March 4,1998. The three siblings are often joined by Spot, a chicken who wants to be a dog, the series is set on the Dalmatian Plantation, the farm where the dalmatians relocated after the end of the film, shortly after the events of the film. Penny and Patch also make appearances, though with different personalities than originally promoted. 101 Dalmatians, The Series debuted in syndication on September 1,1997, two weeks later, the show came to ABCs One Saturday Morning lineup, airing original episodes that could only be seen on the network. Sixty-five episodes were produced, Twelve episodes with 18 segments on ABC and 53 shows containing 62 in syndication, by March 1998 the show played its last episode in Season 2. Reruns continued to play on ABC until 2000, when the show was moved to the Disney Channel, on January 30,2006, Toon Disney aired the show for the final time regularly, while four episodes were shown in March 2007 for the final time. As of that day,101 Dalmatians, The Series has been off the air in most countries with a Disney Channel franchise. It aired a few times in early 2011 Fridays at 4 a. m. on Disney Junior, as of March 23,2012,101 Dalmatians, The Series returned to the Disney Junior Channel, but on September 32013, it was removed. Lucky, The most plucky of the puppies and is unique in having his only spots in the shape of a horseshoe on his back, Cadpig, Cadpig is the runt of the litter and the smallest of the puppies but quite possibly the most intelligent, if not deluded. She is unique in having long floppy ears, a big head, a kind-hearted personality, Roger had saved her young life when she was born. Roly Poly, Roly Poly, nicknamed Rolly, is the very hungry one, almost all his decisions are based on food and this, at times, gets him and the pups into trouble. He is, however, a cheerful and diligent sibling, especially when it comes to his sense of smell. Spot, Spot is a chicken who wants to become a Dalmatian and she is a voice of reason for the foursome but, more often than not, is ignored. She is easily scared and is prone to literally bouncing off the walls and she is, however, a great dancer and appears to be good at math. Roger and Anita Dearly, Owners of the 101 Dalmatians and Dearly Farm, cruella de Vil, Now a corporate criminal and most of her plans revolve around getting richer, tormenting the Dalmatians, and plotting to steal the Dearly Farm. They are usually hired to perform her plans, usually failing, Nanny, The Dearlys caretaker who always helps Roger and Anita around the Dearly Farm, also helps with feeding the Dalmatians from the huge Chow Tower that she operates with a bicycle. Pongo, The father of the fifteen puppies, adopted father of the eighty-four orphaned pups, Perdita, The mother of the Dalmatians, and the wife/mate of Pongo. She is mother to the fifteen puppies, and adoptive mother to eighty-four orphaned pups, mooch, A Sheepdog mix who can be intimidating at times, but deep down is very sensitive and nice

101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure

It is the sequel to the 1961 Disney animated film 101 Dalmatians. It features the voices of Martin Short, Jason Alexander, Barry Bostwick, Susanne Blakeslee, Kath Soucie, Jeff Bennett, Jim Cummings and it garnered DVDX awards for best animated feature, best director, best editing, and best musical score. Disney re-released it on September 16,2008, the Radcliffe family and their one hundred and one dalmatians are preparing to move to their Dalmatian Plantation, a home in the countryside with plenty of room for all of them. However, one of the puppies, Patch, feels ignored and wishes to be unique like his television hero, while watching The Thunderbolt Adventure Hour, he hears about a chance to appear on the show. He is accidentally left behind when his family leaves for the plantation, so he decides to head for the audition to meet his hero and he fails to impress the producers, allowing a jealous Lil Lightning to manipulate them into making himself the hero of his own show. Depressed, Patch leaves and runs into Thunderbolt, elsewhere in London, Cruella de Vil has returned, but she is under probation and a restraining order for her past behavior. No longer allowed to maintain her previous lifestyle, she attempts to soothe her fixation on spots with the help of Lars, in order to inspire him, she restarts her hunt for the dalmatians, using a newspaper picture of Patch to find their new address. Patchs family finally becomes aware that he is missing and go back to London to find him, Cruella bails her former henchmen, Jasper and Horace, out of prison. She sends them in a dog food truck to steal the remaining puppies. They succeed after dealing with Nanny, and they take them to Lars, when Cruella requests she be made a masterpiece from their fur, Lars refuses, not wanting them to be harmed. Angered, she has him bound and gagged and returns to her plan of making a dalmatian fur coat. The captured puppies use the Twilight Bark to send a signal, which is picked up by Patch and Thunderbolt. On the way, they encounter Lil Lightning, who follows them and convinces Thunderbolt not to use Patchs stealth plan and he frightens Jasper and Horace, but Cruella knocks him unconscious and he and Patch are captured. Patch breaks out and releases his family, but Thunderbolt remains behind, the dalmatians escape through the buildings roof to Cruellas Panther De Ville, while having the villains stalled on where they are. Meanwhile, Thunderbolt escapes from his cage and frees Lars, Cruella, Jasper, and Horace finally corner the dogs in an alley. Patch tries to hold them off while the escape. He puts it in reverse, sending Cruella, Jasper, Horace, as he and Thunderbolt stand triumphantly, Patch finally brings out a bark similar to Thunderbolts. The police arrest Lil Lightning, Jasper, and Horace, while Cruella, the Radcliffes and Nanny who were told by Jasper and Horace it was Cruella who made them do it arrive, along with Patchs parents, whom he introduces to Thunderbolt

The 101 Dalmatians Musical

The 101 Dalmatians Musical is a musical produced by Luis Alvarez, directed by Jerry Zaks, and sponsored by Purina Dog Chow. The music written by former Styx member Dennis DeYoung, who also co-wrote the lyrics with the book author B. T. McNicholl. The musical features Rachel York as the infamous Cruella DeVil, and has actors sharing the stage with fifteen real Dalmatians, the musical was praised by critics for the cast performances, particularly York, and the innovative use of stilts and live dogs. While the plot was praised, several reviews noted that the plot suffered from filler. Reviewers also generally found the music to be fun but forgettable, in London in 1957, a pair of Dalmatian dogs, Pongo and Missus, live with their human owners, the Dearlys, and enjoy a happy life. One day Missus gives birth to eight puppies, and the family is visited by Cruella De Vil, Cruella tries to buy the litter, but Pongo and Missus owners refuse to sell them. She hires two men, Jasper and Jinx, to kidnap the puppies, along many other Dalmatians in the city. Pongo and Missus run away from home to find their puppies, Dearly and Horse Kristen Beth Williams as Mrs. He asked director Jerry Zaks to direct, and the team went to Mexico to do a workshop production. B. T. McNicholl wrote the libretto based on the novel, DeYoung acted as the primary composer for the production. He used different themes for each type, aiming to write more traditional Broadway songs for the humans. The choreographey is by Warren Carlyle, in addition to having humans playing the primarily canine characters,15 actual Dalmatian dogs are featured in the production, trained and handled by Joel Slaven. The dogs are a mix of show dogs and ones adopted from various groups around the country. After the production has finished its run, the dogs will be put up for adoption, Rachel York was cast as the infamous Cruella DeVil. After a workshop in Mexico, The 101 Dalmatians Musical made its debut in October 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. As of 2010, it is on a nationwide tour, on January 31,2010, Rachel York announced on her blog that she had stepped down from the role of Cruella DeVil to pursue other projects, and that the role would be taken over by Sara Gettelfinger. While he felt none of the music was memorable, he did find it fun and he praised the introductory tune was colorful and tuneful, and the musicals actors for their performances. 102 Dalmatians is a 2000 American family comedy film directed by Kevin Lima in his live action directorial debut and produced by Edward S. Feldman and Walt Disney Pictures. It is the sequel to the 1996 film 101 Dalmatians and stars Glenn Close reprising her role as Cruella de Vil as she attempts to steal puppies for her grandest fur coat yet. Glenn Close and Tim McInnerny were the two actors from the first film to return for the sequel, however. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design, Cruellas probation officer, Chloe Simon, nevertheless suspects her, partly because Chloe is the owner of the now-adult Dipstick. Dipsticks mate Dottie has recently given birth to three puppies, Domino, Little Dipper, and Oddball, to mend her reputation, Cruella buys the Second Chance Dog shelter, owned by Kevin Shepherd, to resolve its financial insolvency that is on the verge of eviction. Meanwhile, Dr. Pavlov discovers that when his therapys subjects are subjected to loud noises, they revert to their original states but conceals this discovery. When Big Ben rings in her presence, Cruella reverts to her former personality, Dipstick hurries back to the apartment and hides in LePelts truck but is later captured at the train station. Chloe rushes home to save her pets but arrives too late and she is joined by Kevin, who has escaped from prison with help from his dogs and talking parrot, Waddlesworth. Upon finding a ticket for the Orient Express dropped by LePelt, Kevin and Chloe attempt and fail to stop Cruella and LePelt, in Paris, Kevin and Chloe save some of the captive puppies, but they are seen and locked in the cellar just as the puppies flee. Cruella goes after the puppies alone and she and LePelt are thereupon arrested. Kevin and Chloe are awarded the remnants of Cruellas fortune by Alonzo himself, the early working title was 101 Dalmatians Returns. Production began in December 1998 through January 1999 to mid November/December 1999, the film was set to be released on June 30,2000 but was pushed back to November 22,2000. Oxford Prison was used for the scene as Cruella walked out of prison,102 Dalmatians was filmed partially in Paris. In November 6,1999, Disney released the soundtrack to the movie, including pre-eminently and my Spot in the World and Cruella De Vil 2000. The film opened at the position behind M. Night Shyamalans Unbreakable. The film did well at the box office, earning $66,957,026 in the U. S. and $116,654,745 overseas, after premiering in New Zealand, the film received positive reviews and was described by media as a howling success. In America, the film received negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 31% Rotten rating, based on 90 reviews, critics say it also drags in parts, potentially boring children, and that its too violent for a G-rated movie

102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue

102 Dalmatians, Puppies to the Rescue is a video game loosely based on the live-action Disney movie 102 Dalmatians. It made its debut in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation, two Dalmatian puppies, Oddball and Domino, are out in the backyard looking for treasure. They find a toy buried in a park that was made at one of Cruella de Vils toy factories, Oddball and Domino are the only puppies in their family who have not been captured when they return from the park. Their parents, Dottie and Dipstick, set out to rescue their puppies, commanding Oddball, instead the puppies set out to save their siblings, and their parents, who are captured along the way. Similar to the film, the game is set in London, there are various levels in the game that are based on well-known places or monuments such as Regents Park, Piccadilly, Big Ben and the Stonehenge. The player can choose the role of Domino or Oddball, over the course of the game, the player has several opportunities to collect stickers towards a virtual sticker book which can be accessed through the level menu. Various actions within the game will unlock stickers, generally, there is a sticker for exiting every level, collecting 100 bones each level and rescuing all the puppies in each level. Each level has its own individual tasks which will also grant stickers, completing a chore, defeating a henchman, there are six stickers per a level, excluding Cruella levels, which combine together with mini games for their own sticker image. The stickers are like puzzle pieces that create a realistic picture, Puppies to the Rescue is a 3-dimensional game with the ability to angle the camera in whichever direction will make it easiest for navigation. The player must avoid and bark at enemy toys to short-circuit them, checkpoints within a level are places where the player will be sent back if a life is lost and are marked by a parrot named Waddlesworth. If a toy hurts the player four times, a life is lost, if a checkpoint has not been reached before a life is lost, the player is sent back to the starting point. Unlike the Game Boy Color version of the game where the toys are active after being broken, the players health meter refills when food is collected. Each level has an animal friend who will tell the player how to get through the level. Certain levels also feature one of Cruellas three main henchmen from both films, Jasper and Horace from 101 Dalmatians, and Le Pelt from 102 Dalmatians. Unlike enemy toys, they are invincible from normal attacks and the player must perform a certain task instructed by the levels animal friend in order to defeat them. After a specific number of levels has been completed, the player will face Cruella in a series of battles which will unlock a mini game to play upon completion. David Zdyrko of IGN gave the PlayStation version of the game a 7 out of 10 and praised the voice-overs, cutscenes and mini-games, marc Nix of IGN gave the Dreamcast version a 7 as well and said, The colors and emphasized building designs are vivid and sparkly. Its disappointing that the designers didnt even afford to sync the lips in the conversation scenes, Nix gave the Game Boy Color version a 6 and said, The levels are sharp in creativity, and just as sharp in beauty

The Starlight Barking

The Starlight Barking is a 1967 childrens novel by Dodie Smith. It is a sequel to the 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians, although The Hundred and One Dalmatians has been adapted into two films, and each version has a sequel film, neither sequel film has any connection to The Starlight Barking. Disney archivist Dave Smith said that he was unaware of any considerations for adapting the novel although Walt Disney was interested in doing another project based on Smiths further writings, author Elizabeth Hand praised the sophisticated canine society in the novel. A day of enchantments for the Dalmatians of the first book begins when the Dalmatians wake up and find all the humans and they hear the barking of Cadpig from London, where the Prime Minister has become her pet. She informs them reports from all over the reveal the same phenomenon. Pongo and Missus investigate Cruella de Vil, joined by Tommy and the white Persian cat, and a few dogs, they arrive at her house, where they find her fast asleep. The dogs then travel to Trafalgar Square where they are addressed from the top of Nelsons Column by Sirius, Lord of The Dog Star, after some debate, all the dogs agree that Pongo should make the decision. Persuaded by three strays, Pongo tells Sirius the dogs cannot abandon their humans and Sirius departs, all the stray dogs take the opportunity to go to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home
