Eric Clapton

Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE, is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is the only inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds. Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important, Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone magazines list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and fourth in Gibsons Top 50 Guitarists of All Time. He was also named number five in Time magazines list of The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players in 2009, in the mid-1960s Clapton left the Yardbirds to play with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Furthermore, he formed rock band Blind Faith with Baker, Steve Winwood. For most of the 1970s Claptons output bore the influence of the style of J. J. Cale. His version of Marleys I Shot the Sheriff helped reggae reach a mass market, two of his most popular recordings were Layla, recorded with Derek and the Dominos, and Robert Johnsons Crossroads, recorded with Cream. Following the death of his son Conor in 1991, Claptons grief was expressed in the song Tears in Heaven, Clapton has been the recipient of 18 Grammy Awards, and the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2004 he was awarded a CBE at Buckingham Palace for services to music, in 1998, Clapton, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, founded the Crossroads Centre on Antigua, a medical facility for recovering substance abusers. Clapton was born on 30 March 1945 in Ripley, Surrey, England, to 16-year-old Patricia Molly Clapton and Edward Walter Fryer, Fryer shipped off to war prior to Claptons birth and then returned to Canada. The similarity in surnames gave rise to the belief that Claptons real surname is Clapp. Years later, his mother married another Canadian soldier and moved to Germany, Clapton received an acoustic Hoyer guitar, made in Germany, for his thirteenth birthday, but the inexpensive steel-stringed instrument was difficult to play and he briefly lost interest. Two years later Clapton picked it up again and started playing consistently, Clapton was influenced by the blues from an early age, and practised long hours to learn the chords of blues music by playing along to the records. He preserved his practice sessions using his portable Grundig reel-to-reel tape recorder and his guitar playing was so advanced that, by the age of 16, he was getting noticed. Around this time, Clapton began busking around Kingston, Richmond, in 1962, Clapton started performing as a duo with fellow blues enthusiast David Brock in pubs around Surrey. When he was seventeen years old, Clapton joined his first band, an early British R&B group and he stayed with this band from January until August 1963. Ripley, Surrey

Ripley is a village in Surrey, England. Lying on the road from London to Portsmouth, Ripley was the post town for the whole area from 1813 to 1865. With the coming of the railway to what was then Woking Common in 1838, Ripleys importance diminished, as motor traffic increased during the 1960s and 70s, the Portsmouth Road at Ripley became a notorious bottleneck, relieved by the building of the Ripley bypass in 1976. The A3 was renamed the B2215, and what has always been a major road was expanded into six lanes north of Guildford, allowing Send. The distance is 3.5 miles to the M25 motorway and it is centred 6.2 miles southeast of Woking,6.8 miles northeast of Guildford and 22.5 mi southwest of London. Neighbouring villages Send and Send Marsh to the South-West and Ockham to the East have fewer shopping facilities. The village includes a coaching inn, The Talbot Hotel which dates back to 1453. as well as Drakes restaurant, the village high street includes a small supermarket, cobblers and bakery. Aside from the Talbot Hotel/Inn there is the Jovial Sailor as a larger than average. Two further pubs in the village are The Anchor and The Half Moon, the village church, St Mary Magdalen has a fine Norman chancel and is a Grade II* listed building. Ripley is the birthplace of the great rock/blues guitarist Eric Clapton, and resting place of his son, Conor, cricket has been a popular sport in the village for 200 years and is played on the Green. In the 1870s, cycling became a popular activity in the South of England. Since then the Surrey 100 sportive and race have come through the village each July, since the 1930s a bonfire has been held on the Green to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. It is a local event with several thousand attending to see the bonfire, fireworks. The average level of accommodation in the composed of detached houses was 28%. Adam Ant

Adam Ant is an English singer and musician. He gained popularity as the singer of new wave group Adam. He has also worked as an actor, appearing in two dozen films and television episodes from 1985 to 2003. Stuart Goddard was born a child in Marylebone, London to Leslie Goddard. Home was two rooms in De Walden buildings, St Johns Wood and he recalls, There was no luxury, but there was always food on the table. His father had served in the Royal Air Force and worked as a chauffeur and he is of partial Romani descent, his maternal grandfather, Walter Albany Smith, was Romanichal. This heritage would become a basis for a theme in his later work and his parents divorced when Goddard was seven years old and his mother supported him by working as a domestic cleaner, briefly working for Paul McCartney. Goddards first school was Robinsfield Infants School, where he created a stir by throwing a brick through the head-teachers office window on two consecutive days. After taking and passing six O levels and three A levels in English, History and Art, Goddard then attended Hornsey College of Art to study graphic design and he later dropped out of Hornsey, short of completing his BA, to focus on a career in music. The first band Goddard joined was Bazooka Joe, in which he played bass guitar, since starting his course at Hornsey, Goddard had married fellow student Carol Mills, with whom he lived at her parents residence in Muswell Hill. I just didnt eat, he has said of this period, I wasnt attempting to slim, eventually, Goddard took an overdose of all the pills he could find in his mother-in-laws kitchen cabinet. After having his stomach pumped, he was sent to Colney Hatch mental hospital in North London, I was totally fucked up in the head. Things went wrong and something snapped, I just became a vegetable for three months. I was very ill and that was part of the reason I left college, upon his discharge from the hospital, Goddard renamed himself Adam Ant with Mills renaming herself Eve. Adam and the Ants started as part of the punk rock movement. Ant later acted in Derek Jarmans seminal punk film Jubilee in 1977, as Adam and his debut as a recording artist was the song Deutscher Girls, which featured on the films soundtrack, along with Plastic Surgery which was performed in the film itself. Deutscher Girls/Plastic Surgery was re-released as a single in 1982, the band toured extensively around the UK, but proved to be unpopular with much of the British music press who disliked their fetishistic lyrics and imagery. Late 1979 saw the release of their début album Dirk Wears White Sox, with Matthew Ashman on guitar, Leigh Gorman on bass, Adam Ant approached Malcolm McLaren and asked him to manage the band

Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1990, Carey rose to fame with the release of Vision of Love from her eponymous debut album, the album produced four chart-topping singles in the US and began what would become a string of commercially successful albums which solidified the singer as Columbias highest selling act. Carey and Boyz II Men spent a record sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995–1996 with One Sweet Day, following a contentious divorce from Sony Music head Tommy Mottola, Carey adopted a new image and traversed towards hip hop with the release of Butterfly. In 1998, she was honored as the worlds best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards, Carey parted with Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records America. In the weeks prior to the release of her film Glitter and its soundtrack in 2001. The project was received and led to a general decline in the singers career. Careys recording contract was out for $50 million by Virgin. After a relatively unsuccessful period, she returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi, Carey once again ventured into film with a well-received supporting role in Precious, and was awarded the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Throughout her career, Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, according to the RIAA, she is the third-best-selling female artist in the United States, with 63.5 million certified albums. With the release of Touch My Body, Carey gained her 18th number-one single in the United States, in 2012, the singer was ranked second on VH1s list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music. Mariah Carey was born in Huntington, New York, to Patricia and her mother is of Irish descent, while her father had African-American and Afro-Venezuelan ancestry. The surname Carey was adopted by her Venezuelan grandfather, Francisco Núñez, Patricia was an occasional opera singer and vocal coach before she met Alfred in 1960. As he began earning a living as an engineer, the couple married later that year. After their elopement, Patricias family disowned her for marrying a black man, Carey later explained that she felt neglected by her maternal family while growing up, which affected her greatly. In the years between the births of Careys older sister Alison and herself, the Carey family struggled within the community due to their ethnicity, Careys name was derived from the song They Call the Wind Maria, originally from the 1951 Broadway musical Paint Your Wagon. When Carey was three, her parents divorced, after their separation, Alison moved in with her father, while the other two children, Mariah and brother Morgan, remained with their mother. Carey grew apart from her father and would stop seeing him altogether. Harvey is a census-designated place in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. Harvey is on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, within the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area, the population was 22,226 at the 2000 census. Harvey is located east of the Intracoastal Canal on the Mississippi River, according to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.0 square miles, of which 6.7 sq mi is land and 0.4 sq mi is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 20,348 people,7,878 households, the population density was 3,329.7 people per square mile. There were 8,601 housing units at a density of 1,288.5 per square mile. The original owner of the land was Jean-Baptiste dEstrehan de Beaupre and his plantation slaves initially began digging the ditch that would become the Harvey Canal, from the banks of the Mississippi River to the back of Bayou Barataria. Jean Baptiste dEstrehan would settle his home where the ditch met the river banks, Harvey was originally a company town at its founding, developed by Joseph Hale Harvey. During this time, Joseph Harvey would rename Cosmopolite City for his familys surname, harveys wife, née Louise Destrehan, was a great-granddaughter of Jean Baptiste dEstrehan, daughter of Nicolas Noel dEstrehan and granddaughter of Jean Noel Destréhan. The two together began construction of the locks into the Mississippi. Their son, Horace Harvey, would carry on their development of the canal, in 2003, Harvey resident Patrick ONeal Kennedy was sentenced to death after being convicted of violently raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter

The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes were an American rock band formed in 1989. Their discography includes eight albums, four live albums and several charting singles. The band was signed to Def American Recordings in 1989 by producer George Drakoulias and released their album, Shake Your Money Maker. The follow-up, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, reached the top of the Billboard 200 in 1992, after a hiatus between 2002 and 2005, the band released Warpaint, which hit number 5 on the Billboard chart. After the release of a greatest hits/acoustic double album Croweology in August 2010, the band announced that they would return in early 2013 but that December they returned to hiatus status with no specific return date. They announced their break-up in 2015, the band has sold over 30 million albums, and is listed at number 92 on VH1s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. They were also labeled by Melody Maker as The Most Rock n Roll Rock n Roll Band in the World, the first incarnation of the band, Mr. Crowes Garden, named after Leonard Leslie Brookes childrens book Johnny Crows Garden, began in 1984 in Marietta, Georgia. Influenced by contemporary local acts like R. E. M, 1960s psychedelic pop and classic southern rock, they gradually evolved into a revivalist band dedicated to 1970s-era blues rock. The first professional demo the Robinson brothers did was for A&M Records in 1987. The bands manager at the time, Dave Macias, got in touch with A&M rep Aaron Jacoves, from Los Angeles and it was held at Steve Gronbacks studio in Carrboro, North Carolina. They were paid $2000 by Jacoves to cover production costs, Jeff Sullivan played drums on the first demo, while subsequent demo recordings had Steve Gorman on the drums. Steve Gorman played on the subsequent A&M demos in Carrboro, N. C. during mid and late 87, the band was originally offered a record deal in 1987 under the label Dog Gone by Jefferson Holt but they held out. They eventually met George Drakoulias through A&M, when the band was playing as a later in New York City at a club called Drums. The band also played at CBGBs in N. Y. later in 1988, George turned the band on to new music they had not heard before like The Faces and Humble Pie. Up until then the band did not cover Stones songs and Rich did not play in open-G tunings for Mr. Crowes Garden songs, the band released its first studio album, Shake Your Money Maker, in 1990. Their cover of Otis Reddings Hard to Handle and their acoustic ballad She Talks to Angels both achieved top 30 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991. The band opened for ZZ Top on a tour sponsored by Miller Beer, the band launched its own tour that May and later took part in a Monsters of Rock tour in the Soviet Union, where they opened for Mötley Crüe and Queensrÿche, among others. After replacing guitarist Jeff Cease with Marc Ford from blues-rock power trio Burning Tree, the album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200

Corey Miller, better known by his stage name, C-Murder, is an American rapper, songwriter and actor. C-Murder is the brother of both Master P and Silkk the Shocker, uncle of rapper-actor Romeo and singer-actress Cymphonique, as well as cousin of producer, singer and rapper Mo B. C-Murder has released nine albums altogether on six different labels, No Limit Records, TRU Records, Koch Records, Asylum Records, RBC Records and his first platinum album was Life or Death, which was released in 1998. He is currently serving a sentence for a second degree murder conviction in a 2002 Louisiana night club shooting that claimed the life of a teenage fan. Miller rose to fame in the late 1990s after being featured on numerous No Limit releases, in 1998 Miller released his debut album Life or Death. Millers debut made it to the top 3 on the US Billboard 200 with 197,000 copies sold the first week, the album would eventually sell over one million copies making it certified Platinum by the RIAA. In 1999 Miller released his second album Bossalinie it would prove to be more successful charting at number two on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 175,000. The album was promoted with the singles Like a Jungle and Gangsta Walk featuring fellow No Limit artist at the time Snoop Dogg, the album would eventually sell over 500,000 copies making it certified gold. The album would chart on the Billboard 200 at number eight, the album contained the singles What U Gonna Do and Im Not Just. The album has sold over 260,000 copies. In 2005 Miller released his fifth album The Truest Shit I Ever Said, the album was promoted with the single Yall Heard Of Me which featured fellow New Orleans artist B. G. The album would debut on the Billboard 200 at number thirty-four, in 2008 Miller would release his sixth album Screamin 4 Vengeance, this would be Millers second album released while being incarcerated. The album was promoted with the singles Be Fresh and Posted On The Block, the album charted on the Billboard 200 at one-hundred-thirty. In 2009 Miller released his seventh and third album while imprisoned Calliope Click, in 2010 Miller released his eighth album and fourth album while incarcerated entitled Tomorrow. On 11 June 2013 Miller released his debut mixtape Ricochet featuring variety of unreleased tracks, on 5 January 2015 Miller announced via his website that he will be releasing a new album entitled Aint No Heaven In the Pen Bruh. On 10 January 2015, Miller via his website released the track list for Aint No Heaven In the Pen. On 28 February 2015 Miller would announce via his website the date for Aint No Heaven In the Pen which is 24 March 2015. In January 2016, C-Murder released a track aimed at 2 Chainz entitled 2 Stainz, due to the usage of the slogan and name style of his former group TRU

Virgin Records

Virgin Records is a British-founded record label originally founded by English entrepreneurs Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and musician Tom Newman in 1972. It was later sold to Thorn EMI in 1992, today, the operations of Virgin Records America, Inc. are still active and headquartered in Hollywood, California, as it operates exclusively under the Capitol Music Group since 2007. US artists include Knox Hamilton, LTric and Rise Against, in fact the first real store was above a shoe shop at the Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street. After making the shop into a success, they turned their business into a fully fledged record label, the name Virgin, according to Branson, arose from Tessa Watts, a colleague of his, when they were brainstorming business ideas. She suggested Virgin – as they were all new to business – like virgins, the original Virgin logo was designed by English artist and illustrator Roger Dean, a young naked woman in mirror image with a large long-tailed serpent and the word Virgin in Deans familiar script. A variation on the logo was used for the spin-off Caroline Records label and this was soon followed by some notable krautrock releases, including electronic breakthrough album Phaedra by Tangerine Dream, and The Faust Tapes and Faust IV by Faust. The Faust Tapes album retailed for 49p and as a result allowed this relatively unknown band to reach number 12 in the album charts, other early albums include Gongs Flying Teapot, which Daevid Allen has been quoted as having never been paid for. Under the guidance of Tessa Watts, Virgins Head of Publicity, shortly afterwards, the Notting Hill record shop was raided by police for having a window display of the Sex Pistols album Never Mind the Bollocks, Heres the Sex Pistols in the window. After modified versions of the label came the red, white and blue design introduced in 1975. The current Virgin logo was created in 1978, commissioned by Simon Draper, brian Cooke of Cooke Key Associates commissioned a graphic designer to produce a stylised signature. In 1983 Virgin purchased Charisma Records, renaming it Charisma/Virgin, then later Virgin/Charisma, before folding the label in 1986, in the process they acquired Genesis and comedy group Monty Python. The Charisma label was reactivated in the US in 1990 and enjoyed success with such as Maxi Priest, Right Said Fred,38 Special. When this Charisma label was retired in 1992, all of its artists were, as before, in 1987, Venture Records was created for new age and modern classical artists including Klaus Schulze, who had been associated with Virgin since the early 1970s. 10 Records Immortal Records Delabel Caroline Records was a label used from 1973 to 1977. The name and logo were used for some American editions of Virgin records in the 1980s and 1990s. Caroline was primarily used for independent distribution until the label was reactivated in 2013, today, Caroline Records acts as an independent label taking the place of EMI Label Services, after Virgins former parent company EMI was purchased by Universal Music Group. Front Line Records was a label for issuing Jamaican and English reggae music from 1978 to approximately 1987, a short-lived associated label, Dindisc, had Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and The Monochrome Set during its brief existence, after which its recordings became part of Virgins catalogue.
