The Honda Civic is a line of cars manufactured by Honda. A subcompact, the Civic has gone through several generational changes, becoming both larger and more upscale, moving into the compact car segment. EPA guidelines for vehicle size class stipulate a car having combined passenger and cargo room of 110 to 119.9 cubic feet is considered a mid-size car, as such the tenth generation Civic sedan is technically a small-end mid-size car, although it still competes in the compact class. The Civic coupe is still considered a compact car; the Civic falls between the Honda Fit and Accord. The first Civic was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door model, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. With an 1169 cc transverse engine and front-wheel drive like the British Mini, the car provided good interior space despite overall small dimensions. Gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly iterations have become known for performance and sportiness the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi and Civic SiR/Si.
The Civic has been rebadged for international markets, served as the basis for the Honda CR-X, the Honda CR-X del Sol, the Concerto, the first generation Prelude, the Civic Shuttle, the CR-V. In Japan, as customers shifted to minivans and compact cars like the Fit, production of the non-hybrid Civic ended in August 2010 when it no longer complied with Japanese government dimension regulations in the width category. However, the Civic was reintroduced into the Japanese market with the launch of the tenth-generation model in 2017. After a period of developing idiosyncratic automobiles such as the lukewarmly received domestic Honda 1300, Honda considered pulling out of automobile manufacturing altogether by the early 1970s. However, the more conventional Civic's release in 1972 changed things, thanks to its economy and low cost in an era of rising fuel prices. Honda's CVCC technology helped it make it affordable, meeting 1970s and early 1980s emission standards without an expensive catalytic converter.
The first generation Honda Civic sold as a 1973 model in Japan. It was equipped with a 1,169 cc four-cylinder water-cooled engine and featured front power disc brakes, reclining vinyl bucket seats, simulated wood trim on the dashboard, as well as optional air conditioning and an AM/FM radio; the Civic was available as a coupe, both a three- and a five-door hatchback, as well as a five-door station wagon. Due to the 1973 oil crisis, consumer demand for fuel efficient vehicles was high, due to the engine being able to run on either leaded or unleaded fuel, it gave drivers fuel choice flexibility over other vehicles; the CVCC engine debuted in 1975 and had a head design that allowed for more efficient combustion, as a benefit the CVCC system did not require a catalytic converter or unleaded fuel to meet 1975 Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. The Civic was joined by a platform expansion of the three-door hatchback, called the Honda Accord in 1976.
The second generation Honda Civic was introduced in June 1979 as a 1980 model. It was larger, had a more angular shape, came with increased engine power. All Civic engines now used the CVCC design; the base 1335 cc engine made 55 hp, with an optional 1488 cc engine producing 67 hp. Three transmissions were offered: a four-speed manual, a five-speed manual, a two-speed semi-automatic Honda had called the "Hondamatic"; the second generation Civic was offered as a three-door hatchback, a four-door sedan, a five-door hatchback and a five-door wagon. The third generation was released in September 1983 for the 1984 model year; the separate five-door hatchback and wagon models were merged into a five-door "shuttle wagon" or "wagovan" sometimes referred to colloquially as a "breadbox" due to its appearance, called the Honda Civic Shuttle. An additional two-seat coupe style—labeled CRX—was introduced, noted for its compact dimensions and light weight; the third generation Civic saw the introduction of the long running four-cylinder D series engine including a new 1.5 L CVCC engine producing 76 HP. 1984 saw the release of a high-performance Si model for the Japanese market, featuring upgraded suspension and the 1.6 L DOHC ZC engine, rated at 130 PS.
Si models were offered in the US as a 3-door Civic Si hatchback and the CRX Si variant with a 91 horsepower fuel-injected SOHC 12-valve engine. A 4WD engine with different transmission mounts was introduced for the first time in 1984, upgraded in 1987, it delivered a fuel economy of around 28 mpg highway. The 4WD system was push-button operated until improved in 1987 when the rear wheels would engage automatically once the front wheels lost traction; this new system was called "Realtime" which used a "viscous coupler" connecting two propeller shafts between the front and rear axles. The manual transmission featured a synchronized 6th gear, called "SL", or "Super-Low", used for high torque at low speeds; the "Realtime" idea is still utilized to this day but includes technological improvements since the first system. Starting with 1985, Japanese Civics were now exclusive to Honda Primo, with variants sold at Honda Verno and Honda Clio. A four-door version called the Ballade was built, under agreement, by Mercedes Benz South Africa, models were 1300, 1500, 1500i, 1600i DOHC 1.6 injection.
In September 1987, a redesigned Civic was intro
The Opel Karl is a city car designated by the German manufacturer Opel as their entry model for the line up. It replaced the Agila in December 2014. In the United Kingdom, it has been marketed as the Vauxhall Viva since December 2014; the Opel Karl is named after Karl. The model is related to the fourth generation Chevrolet Spark; the car is built in South Korea, with a starting price in the United Kingdom of under £8,000, fuel consumption reaching 4.3 L/100 km with a 1.0 L three cylinder direct injection engine making 55 kW. Although the Karl's dimensions are similar to its predecessor, it is 115 mm lower, making it the same size as the more expensive three door Opel Adam; the Opel Karl is not sold in all European markets. It is not sold in Norway, all ex countries of the USSR, Eastern Balkans, Greece and Cyprus; the Opel Karl had its second world premiere held in Rijeka, back in 2015. In October 2018, it was announced that the production of Karl and Viva will be discontinued by the end of 2019.
New Vietnamese car company VinFast has licensed the Opel Karl from General Motors, to produce their first city car. The front of the car will be restyled to match the new VinFast brand style. Early vehicles will be manufactured in South Korea, but in 2019, production will be in VinFast's own facilities in Haiphong; the Viva range includes the base SE model, the SE A/C and the top SL. The range has a high level standard specification compared to similar vehicles from other manufacturers, including a lane departure warning system, cruise control, speed limiter, trip computer, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability program and traction control, front fog lamps and cornering lamps; the SL offers partial leather trim and alloy wheels. Options include an electronically operated glass sunroof, a touch screen entertainment system and a "Winter Pack" comprising heated seats, steering wheel, door mirrors. The Citroën C3 is a supermini car produced by Citroën since April 2002. It replaced the Citroën Saxo in the model line up, is in its third generation; the third generation model made its appearance in June 2016, went on sale in January 2017. It is produced in a five door hatchback body style, with the first generation being produced in a two door convertible version, called the C3 Pluriel. A three door hatchback, with a similar design as the second generation, marketed as a premium model, is available as the DS3. A mini MPV version of the C3 was announced in July 2008, called the C3 Picasso, was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. In South America, a mini SUV version, called the C3 Aircross, is marketed only locally. In October 2014, the Citroën C3 was awarded most efficient small cars, with the premium car DS 3. After Jean-Pierre Ploué was appointed Director of the Citroën Design Center in 2000, he designed the C3 under the leadership of Donato Coco, responsible for Citroën Xsara Picasso; the first generation of the C3 was launched at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, as well as the 2001 Bologna Motor Show, began marketing in January 2002, as a five door hatchback.
It was available with 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines, 1.4 and 1.6 litre common rail diesel engines. All models came as standard with a five speed manual transmission, except for the Stop & Start model, which came with the SensoDrive gearbox, a five speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters and manual and automatic modes; the top level was the only version that had the option of a four speed automatic transmission. In accordance with the PSA Group policy, the C3's chassis was used for the Peugeot 1007 and the Peugeot 207. Many components of the C3 are the same as those of the Peugeot 206; some versions of the C3 feature a start-stop system that can automatically cut the engine when not needed to save fuel, such as in traffic, restart it briskly to move on again. The Citroën C3 Lumiere was a concept car that previewed the production Citroën C3, it was released in 1998 as a five door hatchback, with four seats and rear suicide doors for easy access for passengers to the rear seats.
It featured a five speed manual transmission, a 1.1 L TU1 I4 petrol engine up front. The C3 was given a minor redesign in October 2005, with the front end featuring a more imposing bumper, wider lower air intake, single air intake slit below the restyled radiator grille, a re positioned number plate; the rear of the car was given redesigned light clusters, with crystal coloured midsections. The passenger compartment was enhanced, with the fitting of a restyled dashboard with high quality finish, as well as a newer, more modern instrument cluster making the driver information easier to read; the addition of light metallic grey embellishers around the central section of the fascia and air vents contributed to the updated interior, as did the re designed front and rear door panels and trims. The steering was improved so that it weights up with speed. Citroën added a new 1.6 L 16 valve HDi diesel engine to the range, rated at 110 bhp. The Pluriel received similar interior alterations but was otherwise unchanged.
Citroën marketed the C3 Pluriel from 2003 to 2010 as a convertible with five open top variations, hence the name. Pluriel is a cognate with the English plural; the Pluriel can be configured as a hatchback with a multi layer insulated top. And as a roadster pick up, where the back seats fold to a pickup like bed with a drop down tailgate; the C3 Pluriel was introduced in July 2003, was offered with a choice of a 1.4 or a 1.6 L petrol engine, a 1.4 L diesel engine. The 1.6 L petrol came fitted, with a semi-automatic gearbox. The Pluriel was withdrawn in July 2010. In October 2013, Top Gear Magazine placed the C3 Pluriel on its list of "The 13 worst cars of the last 20 years", describing the car as "useful as a chocolate teapot." 1.1 L TU1 I4, 60 PS and 69 lb·ft 1.4 L TU3 I4, 75 PS and 87 lb·ft 1.4 L DV4 HDi diesel I4, 70 PS and 118 lb·ft 1.4 L DV4 HDi 16-valve diesel I4, 90 PS and 147 lb·ft 1.4 L ET3 16 valve I4, 90 PS and 98 lb·ft 1.6 L DV6 HDi 16 valve diesel I4, 92 PS and 159 lb·ft 1.6 L DV6 HDiF 16 valve diesel I4 with Diesel particulate filter, 110 PS and 177 lb·ft 1.6 L TU5 16 valve I4, 110 PS and 108 lb·ft The second generation of the C3 was revealed in the media in June 2009, made its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009.
It features a new body design, with a 108 degree field of vision windscreen, similar to the one of the larger C4 Picasso, available on all versions, except the entry model VT. The new C3 builds on the curvy profile of the previous model and has a look in keeping with other Citroën models and the older C3, although it is longer and wider than the old model; the lights at the front, dashboard assembly and other components are shared with the DS3. On the new C3, the instrumentation is a mix of analogue dials beneath a styled cowl and a digital display for the fuel and trip computer. There is no temperature gauge
The Dacia Logan is a subcompact car produced jointly by the French manufacturer Renault and its Romanian subsidiary Dacia since 2004. It is in its second generation and it has been produced as a sedan, station wagon, notchback or pick-up, it has been manufactured at Dacia's automobile plant in Mioveni, at Renault's plants in Morocco, Argentina, Russia, Colombia and India. The pick-up was produced at Nissan's plant in Rosslyn, South Africa, it has been marketed as the Renault Logan, Nissan Aprio, Mahindra Verito, Renault Tondar 90, Lada Largus, Nissan NP200 or Renault Symbol, depending on the existing presence or positioning of the Renault brand. Since its launch, the Dacia Logan is estimated to have reached over 4 million sales worldwide. During a visit to Russia by French President Jacques Chirac, Louis Schweitzer noted that at Lada and Renault dealerships the €6,000 Ladas were selling well while the €12,000 Renaults stayed in the showroom. "Seeing those antiquated cars, I found it unacceptable that technical progress should stop you making a good car for €6,000.".
"I drew up a list of specifications in three words – modern and affordable – and added that everything else was negotiable." The cheapest version of the car is €5,900, the price can reach €11,200, depending on equipment and customs duty.. The Logan was designed from the outset as an affordable car, has many simplified features to keep costs down, it replaces many older cars in production, including the Romanian Dacia 1310 series of Renault 12-based cars. It was launched in June 2004, began marketing in September 2004. Renault had no plans to sell the Logan in Western Europe, but in June 2005, began importing a more expensive version of the car, starting at around €7,500, it was an unexpected success with people wanting an inexpensive, no-frills car they could repair themselves. The Logan was launched in India in April 2007, as a collaboration with Mahindra, who helped Renault cut costs by 15%. India was the first right-hand drive market for the Logan, it was an instant success with impressive sales in the first few months.
Since Mahindra and Renault have parted ways, but the Logan continues to be sold by Mahindra, with technical support from Renault. Its awkward styling has resulted in lower than expected sales; the company has introduced the name Verito to the car, which since only had Mahindra badges. On 1 July 2008 four years after the release of the first Logan, a facelifted version called the Dacia New Logan was announced; the new version features a more attractive and more comfortable interior. This facelift was adopted on the station wagon in October the same year; the Logan is based on the Dacia B0 platform used for the Renault Clio II and for other Renault and Nissan models. It has 50% fewer parts than a high-end Renault vehicle and has a limited number of electronic devices; this makes the car easier and cheaper to repair. Some parts are much simpler than those of its competitors. For example, rear-view mirrors are symmetrical and can be used on either side of the car, the windshield is flatter than usual, the dashboard is a single injection-molded piece.
The developers have taken into account several differences between road and climate conditions in developed and developing countries. The Logan suspension is soft and strong, the chassis sits visibly higher than most other compact cars to help it negotiate dirt roads and potholes on ill-maintained asphalt roads; the engine is specially prepared to handle lower quality fuel, whereas the air conditioning is powerful enough to lower the temperature several degrees. In Romania, it was available in four trim levels: Ambiance, Preference and Ambition; the basic trim level, featured a driver airbag, body-coloured bumpers, wheel trims and electric door locks. The second trim level, added a passenger airbag, power steering, electric front windows, a radio, two rear seat head restraints and remote locking; the third trim level, added front fog lights, air conditioning, a trip computer, electric mirrors, three rear seat head restraints and a multi-adjustable driver seat. The top trim level, Ambition had ABS, electric rear windows, a CD player and alloy wheels.
The 1.6-litre petrol engine was only available starting with the Preference trim level. In September 2005, the 1.5-litre diesel engine was introduced not being available on the Ambition trim level. In January 2006, a new intermediate trim level called Laureate Plus was added, which in addition to the Laureate trim level featured ABS, electric rear windows and a CD player; the diesel engine became available for the Ambition trim level. In September 2006, several improvements were introduced to the range, such as a new button for the trunk lid, a new knob for the gear lever, crystal rear lamps, as well as new designs for the wheel trims and the alloy wheels in addition to three new paint colours; the new top of the range level Prestige was introduced, which featured larger door mirrors, body-coloured bumpers, side moldings and door handles, leather-trimmed gear lever and steering wheel, as well as other interior refinements. It was only available with a new 1.6-litre 16-valve petrol engine. In July 2007, a more powerful version of the 1.5-litre diesel engine was added, d
The Porsche Panamera is an executive car manufactured by the German automobile manufacturer Porsche. It is front-engined and has a rear-wheel-drive layout, with all-wheel drive versions available, it is the only sedan manufactured by Porsche as part of its strategy of expanding its market. The production version of the Porsche Panamera was unveiled at the 13th Auto Shanghai International Automobile Show in Shanghai, China, on April 2009. In 2011, hybrid and diesel versions were launched. In April 2013, a facelift to the Panamera was announced, making its debut again at the Shanghai Auto Show. A plug-in hybrid version, the Panamera S E-Hybrid, was released in the U. S. market in November 2013. The Panamera range received a re-design in 2016; the Panamera's name is derived, like the Porsche Carrera lineage, from the Carrera Panamericana race. The Panamera is considered to be the long-awaited fruit of Porsche's 989 concept vehicle from the late 1980s. Like the Porsche Cayenne SUV, the Panamera upset many Porsche purists, since it was seen as an attempt to broaden Porsche's appeal beyond that of hardcore fans.
The Panamera ran contrary to the company's signature offerings its light two-door rear-engine sports cars like the 911. The Panamera on the other hand is considered a full-size luxury car, weighing nearly 4,000 pounds, with four doors, its engine mounted in the front; the Panamera's appearance with its long hood and rear hatch bears resemblance to a stretched 911. The 911 has a sparse interior, as it was focused on raw performance, while the Panamera has a sumptuous interior loaded with modern technological amenities and expensive leather upholstery. Engines are first assembled in Stuttgart, the car's body is built and assembled in Leipzig, alongside the Cayenne and Macan. From 2009 to 2016, the bodies were built at the Volkswagen Group facility in Hannover. Production began in April one month after its debut in the Shanghai Motor Show in China; the V8-powered Panamera S, 4S, Turbo models were the first versions that debuted in 2009. In addition to the 4.8L Twin Turbo 507 PS V8 powered models, Porsche launched two further models in 2010: the Panamera and Panamera 4 which are both powered by 3.0-litre and 3.6-litre V6 engines producing 304 PS.
Being derived from the V8 engine of the Panamera S and Panamera 4S, the V6 retains the V8's technologies like Direct Fuel Injection, infinitely variable intake camshaft adjustment with variable valve lift, an on-demand oil pump, water cooling with thermal management, a variable intake manifold, as well as integrated dry sump lubrication with two-stage extraction of oil, an Auto Start-Stop function. Turbo version uses active aerodynamics with a adjustable rear spoiler. Optional Sports Chrono Packages include a Sport Plus button, which has tighter damping and air springs, lowers the car's body by 25 mm. In 2011, the Panamera S Hybrid, Turbo S, GTS variants were added to the range; the GTS achieves a lateral acceleration of 0.96g. The Panamera, S, Hybrid and Diesel models are rear-wheel drive, while the Panamera 4, 4S, GTS have the same four-wheel drive system as the Turbo and Turbo S, called Porsche Traction Management; the Panamera featured Adaptive air suspension, the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, active anti-roll bars and the Porsche Active Suspension Management.
The newly introduced ZF 7-speed PDK dual clutch transmission was standard on the Panamera 4, 4S and Turbo models. The addition of the optional sport chrono package provided faster acceleration times. In some markets a 6-speed manual was available for rear-wheel drive petrol versions; the S Hybrid and Diesel models had an Aisin-supplied eight-speed automatic transmission called the Tiptronic S. The engine of the Panamera Turbo S features larger turbochargers than the standard Panamera Turbo’s 4.8-litre V8, as well as high-pressure fuel injection, aluminium-alloy pistons. The piston rings are coated in a low-friction surface to help eke out more performance; the Panamera Turbo S accelerates to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds with launch control engaged. Roll-on acceleration should be more impressive, changes to the PDK gearbox allow for faster gearshifts, the alleged 27.7mpg fuel economy is no worse than the less powerful Panamera Turbo. Drag Coefficient: 0.30 0–60 mph: 3.2 seconds 0–100 mph: 7.2 seconds 1/4 mile: 11.5 seconds at 127 mph Braking 70 mph to 0 mph: 135 feet In 2008, Porsche AG announced the development of a parallel hybrid system for the Panamera, in February 2011, Porsche unveiled the Panamera S Hybrid.
Using the same drivetrain seen in the Cayenne S Hybrid—an Audi-sourced supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine producing 333 PS along with an electric motor rated at 47 PS, as well as the Cayenne's 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission—the 380 PS Panamera S Hybrid could accelerate from 0–62 mph in 6.0 seconds. The Panamera S Hybrid produced only 193 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, rendering it the most environment friendly car in the entire Porsche model range, while still maintaining a top speed of 167.8 mph. Deliveries began in the United States in 2011, cumulative sales reached 684 units through March 2013; the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency rated the fuel economy for the 2013/2012 model year Panamera Hybrid at 22 mpg‑US for city driving, 30 mpg‑US for highway, 25 mpg‑US combined; the Panamera Diesel was launched in May 2011

Land Rover Discovery
Land Rover Discovery is a series of mid-size luxury SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover. There have been five generations of the vehicle, the first of, introduced in 1989, the second called the Series II update in 1998, the third generation, titled Discovery 3, launched in 2004 and was marketed in North America as the Land Rover LR3; the fourth in 2009 was the Discovery 4—Land Rover LR4 for North American markets. The fifth generation Discovery was introduced in 2017, omits the numeric suffix of the previous two versions; the Discovery Series I was introduced into the United Kingdom in October 1989. The company code-named the vehicle "Project Jay"; the new model was based on the chassis and drivetrain of the more upmarket Range Rover, but with a lower price aimed at a larger market segment intended to compete with Japanese competition. This was the only Discovery generation with a four-cylinder petrol engine; the Discovery was only available as a three-door version.
Both were fitted with the option to have two jump seats fitted in the boot. Land Rover employed Conran Design Group, to design the interior, they were instructed to ignore current car interior design and position the vehicle as a'lifestyle accessory'. Their interior incorporated a number of original features, although some ideas shown on the original interior mock-ups were left on the shelf, such as a custom sunglasses holder built into the centre of the steering wheel; the design was unveiled to critical acclaim, won a British Design Award in 1989. The original transmission was a dual-ratio five-speed manual with drive via a transfer case with a lockable centre differential. Much of the interior was constructed from'Sonar Blue' plastic, with magazine holders above the windscreen, hand-holds for rear passengers incorporated into the head restraints of the front seats, remote radio controls on the instrument cluster, twin removable sunroof panels and a Land Rover-branded cloth fabric holdall in the front centre console for oddments storage that could be removed from the vehicle and worn as a handbag using a supplied shoulder strap.
Despite such features, the interior's basic structure was the same as the Range Rover and all the switchgear and instruments came from other Rover Group cars such as the Maestro and Montego. The Discovery utilised several Range Rover body panels, as well as headlights from the Freight Rover van and taillights from the Maestro van; the latter would continue to bear the Austin Rover'chevron' logo on their lenses until production of the first generation Discovery ended in 1998, ten years after Austin Rover ceased to exist. The designers of the original model had been forced to economise and use the "parts bin" of the -then parent company, Rover; the 200 series used the basic body shell structure from the Range Rover, door handles from the Morris Marina, tail lights from the Austin Maestro van, interior switchgear and instrumentation from Rover's surplus parts. In 1992, the Discovery received several improvements; the interior was offered in a more traditional beige as well as the distinctive light blue, an automatic gearbox was made available on 200Tdi models, new colours were added to the range and the'SE' pack was introduced as an option.
A two-seater, three-door Discovery Commercial version, lacking rear-side windows, was offered by Land Rover Special Vehicles known as SVO. Before 1994, the Discovery was available with either the 2.5-litre 200 Tdi engine or the 3.5-litre Rover V8. Early V8 engines used a twin SU carburettor system, switching to Lucas 14CUX fuel injection in 1990. A 2.0-litre petrol engine from the Rover stable was available in a model known as the 2.0-litre Mpi I4. This was intended to attract fleet managers. A combination of changes in taxation and lack of power for such a heavy vehicle led to the demise of this engine, despite its fitting to several Discoveries supplied to the British Royal family. One of these was notably driven by Prince Philip around Windsor Great Park, in his position as Park Ranger; the transmission was a permanent four-wheel drive system, with a high and low range transfer box, locking centre differential at the transfer box. To the rest of the Land Rover range, the handbrake acts on the transmission at the back of the transfer box, therefore locking the rear prop shaft or both front and rear prop shafts if the central differential lock is engaged.
In Australia, the Series I launched in April 1991, available only as a three-door estate in 3.5-litre V8i guise with 115 kW and 260 N⋅m and coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox. In October 1991, Land Rover launched the five-door body variant in base V8i and luxury HL versions. Both featured central locking, electric windows, headlight washers and heated door mirrors, with the HL adding alloy wheels, air conditioning, driving lights and an improved audio system. Furthermore, the Tdi engine became available, rated at 83 kW and 265 N⋅m. In early-1993, a four-speed automatic option was added to th
