9th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 9th Infantry Regiment ("Manchu") is a parent infantry regiment of the United States Army.
Near Fort Phil Kearney, Wyoming, 2 August 1867. The Wagon Box Fight. A small force of 30 men on the 9th Infantry led by Brevet Major James Powell was attacked in the early morning hours by some 2,000 Sioux Indians. The soldiers hastily erected a barricade of wagon boxes, and withstood multiple charge. The Sioux finally withdrew, leaving behind several hundred killed and wounded.

The Regiment's prized Liscum Bowl, was made from silver given to the 9th Infantry Regiment by China after the Battle of Tientsin. It is now worth more than $2.5 million.

The Battle of Lundy's Lane, also known as the Battle of Niagara, was fought on 25 July 1814, during the War of 1812, between an invading American army and a British and Canadian army near present-day Niagara Falls, Ontario. It was one of the bloodiest battles of the war, and one of the deadliest battles fought in Canada, with approximately 1,720 casualties including 258 killed.

The order to retreat to Fort George was countermanded by Lieutenant General Gordon Drummond, who instead ordered for reinforcements to support his position at Lundy's Lane.
After he was instructed to take British guns, Lt Col James Miller, commander of the 21st U.S. Infantry, responded "I'll try, Sir."
