Alt Camp

Alt Camp is a comarca in Catalonia, Spain. It is one of the three comarques into which Camp de Tarragona was divided in the comarcal division of 1936. Alt Camp is a county in the province of Tarragona in Spain. To the north of the county lies Conca de Barberà, to the northeast lies Anoia, to the east and southeast lie Alt Penedès and Baix Penedès, to the south lies Tarragonès and to the southwest and west lies Baix Camp. Alt Camp has an area of 544.69 square kilometres and the capital of the county is Valls. The county is divided into two main topographical areas; the northeastern part is mountainous and is in the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range while the southwestern part is a lowland plain in the Catalan Coastal Depression. The lowland plains of Alt Camp are predominantly used for agriculture. In the valley of the River Gaia, vines and almonds are grown, on irrigated land, vegetables and various fruit trees; the municipality of Bràfim in this valley has a small industrial area. The mountain slopes are covered in maquis, an evergreen Mediterranean scrub with bushes and small trees, including many aromatic shrubs.

The olives and grapevines that used to grow on terraces there have been abandoned. Among the scrub there are patches of poplar, white pine, Portuguese oak and holm oak. Frequent wildfires prevent the establishment of permanent forests. In 2014, 44,578 people lived in the county: 24,570 of them lived in Valls; the remaining 8,401 inhabitants lived in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. Eadsige, was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1038 to 1050. He crowned Edward the Confessor as king of England in 1043. Eadsige was a royal priest for King Cnut before Cnut arranged for him to become a monk at Christ Church, Canterbury about 1030. About 1035, he served as a suffragan or coadjutor bishop to Archbishop Æthelnoth of Canterbury, with his see located at the church of St Martin in Canterbury, he was translated to the Archbishopric of Canterbury in 1038 after Æthelnoth's death. In 1040, he journeyed to Rome to receive his pallium from Pope Benedict IX. Eadsige may have crowned Harthacnut in 1040, but he crowned Edward the Confessor on 3 April 1043 along with Ælfric Puttoc, the Archbishop of York. In 1044, wishing to withdraw from his see because of ill-health, appears to have approached King Edward and Godwin, Earl of Wessex, about temporarily consecrating Siward, abbot of Abingdon in Eadsige's place; this retirement lasted until 1048, when Siward became ill and returned to Abingdon to die within eight weeks.

While he was archbishop, he was sheriff of Kent. William of Malmesbury relates a story that Siward deprived Eadsige of food during Eadsige's illness and because of this Siward was not allowed to succeed Eadsige, but had to settle for the see of Rochester instead; however this is a fabrication to account for the fact that Siward did not become archbishop after Eadsige, for William had confused Siward, the abbot, with a different Siward, this one Siward of Rochester, Bishop of Rochester from 1058 to 1075. The see of Worcester preserved a tradition that in about 1047 it was Eadsige, along with Lyfing the Bishop of Worcester, who forced Sweyn Godwinson to give up his wife, the abbess of Leominster Abbey before Sweyn abducted her. Eadsige died on 29 October 1050 or just sometime in October 1050. During his occupation of the see, many of the lands of the see were either leased, sold or given to Godwin, Earl of Wessex, an action that angered the monks of the cathedral, may have contributed to William of Malmesbury's dislike of the archbishop and willingness to fabricate a story about him being mistreated.

Marko Podraščanin is a Serbian volleyball player, a member of the Serbian men's national volleyball team and Italian club Sir Safety Perugia, a participant of the Olympic Games, bronze medalist at the World Championship 2010, gold medalist at the 2011 European Championship, two time bronze medalist at the European Championship and the World League. On May 25, 2014 married to Milena. On May 5, 2015 his wife gave birth to their daughter, Mila. On July 19, 2015, Podraščanin was part of the Serbian national team that made it to the final of the World League. Edmond Lachenal

Edmond Lachenal was a French potter. Edmond Lachenal had Jean-Jacques Lachenal and Raoul Lachenal who succeeded him as potters. Edmond Lachenal was one of the pivotal figures in the development and creation of Art Nouveau in ceramics, his works are comparable in influence and importance to those of Ernest Chaplet, Adrien-Pierre Dalpayrat, Albert Dammouse, his work is included in collections of Art Nouveau ceramics in the Louvre and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He was trained in Theodore Deck's studio, starting when he was 15. At the 1873 World's Fair in Vienna, Lachenal's work as a decorator for Deck received an Honorable Mention. Following this award, he became director of Deck's decoration atelier, a significant promotion for one so young. In 1889, Lachenal received his first gold medal at the World's Fair in Paris for his work with faience wares in the style of Theodore Deck; these works used bright, polychrome glazes, a feature of his work that would remain constant throughout his career.

His early work was an imitation of what he produced while working for Deck, but by the 1890s, Lachenal's work showed the influences of the trends and fashions of the late nineteenth century: Japanese prints, the shift from faience pottery to grès, the emergence of Art Nouveau. Unlike his peers, Lachenal did not produce matte glazed works, instead creating his matte effects with hydrofluoric acid, eating away the glossy surface to create a matte effect; this procedure allowed him to produce brightly colored work. During this period, Emile Decoeur worked in his studio. By 1894 Lachenal had begun casting sculptors' work in stoneware with mat glazes; the best known of his collaborations was with the Swedish-born sculptor Agnès de Frumerie. She produced Symbolist figurative decorations for the vases, their collaboration continued until at least 1907. Lachenal produced faience editions of vases by Hector Guimard in the same organic style as the Paris Metro entrances in 1902. Bridgewater House, Runcorn

Bridgewater House is in the Old Coach Road, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. Built for the use of the Duke of Bridgewater, it has since has been used for various purposes and has now been converted into offices. Bridgewater House was built in 1771, near the lower end of a line of ten locks leading from the Runcorn basin of the Bridgewater Canal to the River Mersey, it was the occasional residence of the Duke of Bridgewater when he was supervising the building and operation of the Runcorn branch of the canal. The canal was opened to the Mersey in 1773 and completed throughout its length in 1776. After the Duke's death in 1803 the house was used as offices by the Bridgewater Trustees, from 1872 by the Bridgewater Navigation Company. In 1887 the assets of this company, including the house, were bought by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, who used it for the purpose of entertaining. At the outbreak of the Second World War, part of the house was taken over by the Balloon Section of the Royal Air Force.

In 1943 the whole house was requisitioned by the Air Ministry. After the war the house returned to the ownership of the Manchester Ship Canal Company and its future became uncertain. In 1998 a fire damaged many of the rooms; the house is built in stone dressings in Georgian style. Its consists of 2½ storeys with a basement; the entrance front has the canal front seven bays. Steps lead up to the entrance which has a stone Doric doorcase and the entrance front is rusticated up to the ground floor level. There are stone bands at the first and second sill levels and at the top is a stone cornice with a brick parapet; the roof is hipped. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe the house as being "imposing"; the house is now owned by Bridgewater Property Management. This company uses it for its own purposes and leases the rest of the building as offices for other companies.
