Comedy
–
In a modern sense, comedy refers to any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, television, film, and stand-up comedy. The origins of the term are found in Ancient Greece, in the Athenian democracy, the public opinion of voters was influenced by the political satire performed by the comic poets at the theaters. The theatrical genre of Greek comedy can be described as a performance which pits two groups or societies against each other in an amusing agon or conflict. Northrop Frye depicted these two opposing sides as a Society of Youth and a Society of the Old, a revised view characterizes the essential agon of comedy as a struggle between a relatively powerless youth and the societal conventions that pose obstacles to his hopes. Satire and political satire use comedy to portray persons or social institutions as ridiculous or corrupt, parody subverts popular genres and forms, critiquing those forms without necessarily condemning them. Similarly scatological humour, sexual humour, and race humour create comedy by violating social conventions or taboos in comic ways, a comedy of manners typically takes as its subject a particular part of society and uses humor to parody or satirize the behaviour and mannerisms of its members. Romantic comedy is a genre that depicts burgeoning romance in humorous terms. The adjective comic, which means that which relates to comedy is, in modern usage. Of this, the word came into usage through the Latin comoedia and Italian commedia and has, over time. The Greeks and Romans confined their use of the comedy to descriptions of stage-plays with happy endings. Aristotle defined comedy as an imitation of men worse than the average, however, the characters portrayed in comedies were not worse than average in every way, only insofar as they are Ridiculous, which is a species of the Ugly. The Ridiculous may be defined as a mistake or deformity not productive of pain or harm to others, the mask, for instance, in the Middle Ages, the term expanded to include narrative poems with happy endings. It is in this sense that Dante used the term in the title of his poem, as time progressed, the word came more and more to be associated with any sort of performance intended to cause laughter. During the Middle Ages, the comedy became synonymous with satire. They disassociated comedy from Greek dramatic representation and instead identified it with Arabic poetic themes and forms and they viewed comedy as simply the art of reprehension, and made no reference to light and cheerful events, or to the troubling beginnings and happy endings associated with classical Greek comedy. After the Latin translations of the 12th century, the term gained a more general meaning in medieval literature. Starting from 425 BCE, Aristophanes, a playwright and satirical author of the Ancient Greek Theater wrote 40 comedies,11 of which survive. Aristophanes developed his type of comedy from the satyr plays

Cover version
–
A cover version can also refer to a rerecording of a song by the original artist or performers under a different record company. Originally, Billboard and other magazines that track the popularity of artists and hit tunes measured the sales success of the published tune. Later, they tracked the airplay that songs achieved, some versions being more successful recording than the original song. Before the onset of rock n roll in the 1950s, songs were published and several records of a song might be out by singers of the day. The Hendrix version, released six months after Dylans original, became a Top 10 single in the UK in 1968 and was ranked 48th in Rolling Stone magazines 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The term cover goes back decades when cover version originally described a version of a tune recorded to compete with the recently released version. The Chicago Tribune described the term in 1952, trade jargon meaning to record a tune that looks like a hit on someone elses label. Examples of records covered include Paul Williams 1949 hit tune The Hucklebuck, both crossed over to the popular Hit Parade and had numerous hit versions. In fact, one of the objects of publishing sheet music was to have a composition performed by as many artists as possible. In previous generations, some artists made very successful careers of presenting revivals or reworkings of once-popular tunes, musicians now play what they call cover versions of songs as a tribute to the original performer or group. Using familiar material is an important method of learning music styles, until the mid-1960s most albums, or long playing records, contained a large number of evergreens or standards to present a fuller range of the artists abilities and style. Artists might also perform interpretations of a favorite artists hit tunes for the pleasure of playing a familiar song or collection of tunes. A cover band plays cover versions exclusively. Some tribute acts salute the Who, The Rolling Stones and many classic rock acts. Many tribute acts target artists who remain popular but no longer perform, many tribute bands attempt to recreate another bands music as faithfully as possible, but some such bands introduce a twist. Dread Zeppelin performs reggae versions of the Zeppelin catalog and Beatallica creates heavy metal fusions of songs by the Beatles, there are also situations in which a member of a tribute band will go on to greater success, sometimes with the original act they tribute. One notable example is Tim Ripper Owens who, once the singer of Judas Priest tribute band British Steel. Cover acts or bands are entertainers who perform a variety of crowd-pleasing cover songs for audiences who enjoy the familiarity of hit songs

Deck the Halls
–
Deck the Halls or Deck the Hall is a traditional Christmas, yuletide, and New Years carol. The melody is Welsh dating back to the century, and belongs to a winter carol, Nos Galan, while the English lyrics, written by Thomas Oliphant. The English-language lyrics were written by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant and they first appeared in 1862, in volume 2 of Welsh Melodies, a set of four volumes authored by John Thomas, including Welsh words by John Jones and English words by Oliphant. The repeated fa la la goes back to the earlier Welsh, the lyrics run as follows, The phrase Tis the season, from the lyrics, has become synonymous with the Christmas and holiday season. Tis being a contraction of it is. A similar archaic contraction is Twas the night before Christmas, from the first line of the poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, in the original 1862 publication, Oliphants English lyrics were published alongside Talhaiarns Welsh lyrics. Although some early sources state that Oliphants words were a translation of Talhaiarns Welsh original and this version, in which there is no longer any reference to drinking, runs as follows, An identical printing appeared four years later in The Franklin Square Song Collection. The pluralizing of the title of the carol to Deck the Halls is found as early as 1892, other common alterations change Christmas to Yule or Yuletide in various locations where it appears. For example, Christmas carol may be changed to Yuletide carol, the melody of Deck the Hall is taken from Nos Galan, a traditional Welsh New Years Eve carol published in 1794, although it is much older. The music is in AABA form, the Pennsylvania version from 1877 omits of the third Fa la la line. The tune is that of an old Welsh air, first found in a manuscript by Welsh harpist John Parry dating back to the 1700s. The melody Poet John Ceiriog Hughes later wrote his own lyrics, a middle verse was later added by folk singers. In the eighteenth century the tune spread widely, with Mozart allegedly using it in his 18th violin sonata and, later, originally, carols were dances and not songs. The accompanying tune would have used as a setting for any verses of appropriate metre. Singers would compete each other, verse for verse—known as canu penillion dull y De. Consequently, tunes originally used to accompany carols became separated from the original dances, the Welsh and English lyrics found in the earliest publication of the Nos Galan melody are as follows, Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded a joke version of the song. It was released as a very rare jukebox-only 7-inch single and was included on their 1994 outtakes compilation, the song Knock Me Down from the bands 1989 album, Mothers Milk, was included as a b-side. Get Lucky is a song with lyrics that, according to Williams, are about the fortune of connecting with someone. After it leaked in mid-April, the single was released as a download on 19 April 2013. Get Lucky has since received acclaim from critics, and has spawned numerous cover versions and parodies. The single reached the top ten in the charts of over 32 countries. Get Lucky was completed over the course of approximately 18 months, Daft Punk first met Rodgers at a listening party in New York City for the duos 1997 debut album Homework, and became friends thereafter. The duo acknowledged Chics influence in the song Around the World and had respect for Rodgers. He noted however that a series of misses and scheduling conflicts had delayed their chance of collaborating. The duo eventually invited Rodgers to the Random Access Memories sessions at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and this coincidentally was the studio where the first Chic single had been recorded, in the neighborhood in which Rodgers grew up. Once he completed his contribution, Daft Punk re-recorded the bass part with Nathan East to fit Rodgers performance, Rodgers further elaborated that, Everybody else wound up re-playing to me. Mixer and engineer Mick Guzauski recalled that the rhythm guitar fit easily into the production, I experimented with balancing and other positioning and he didn’t have to be processed – Nile just sounded great the way he is. He had joked that, If you just want me to play tambourine, Williams noted that the duo adopted a perfectionist approach during the recording of the vocals for Get Lucky, as he was asked to perform several takes and multiple instances of specific phrases. As a member of The Neptunes production team, Williams had previously provided a remix of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger that appeared on the 2003 album Daft Club. Daft Punk also served as co-writers and producers for the 2010 single Hypnotize U by N. E. R. D, get Lucky is composed in the key of F-sharp minor. It follows the progression of Bm7–D–F♯m7–E. The song runs at common time with a tempo of 116 BPM, prior to Rodgers involvement, the song existed in rough form that centered on Wurlitzer electric piano with Omar Hakim on drums and East performing bass guitar

It was so brief, maybe six months, four songs, a negative review in Melody Maker by Dave Jennings subsequently dubbed the music a daft punky thrash. Instead of dismissing the review, they found it amusing, as de Homem-Christo stated, We struggled so long to find Darlin, and this happened so quickly. Darlin soon disbanded, leaving Brancowitz to pursue other efforts with Phoenix, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk and experimented with drum machines and synthesisers. In September 1993, Daft Punk attended a rave at EuroDisney, the demo tape given to Macmillan at the rave formed the basis for Daft Punks debut single, The New Wave, a limited release in 1994. The single also contained the final mix of The New Wave called Alive, Daft Punk returned to the studio in May 1995 to record Da Funk. Feldstein told HitQuarters, We had an artist that had never had a hit on radio and it was a non-traditional song, it didnt sound like a Timbaland or Benny Blanco record. So we had to approach the market in an interesting way, Feldstein came up with the idea of creating a video designed to go viral and brought in experienced music video director Diane Martel to shoot it. Its controversial nature was designed to attract attention with Feldstein saying, getting something banned actually helps you
