CBS

CBS is an American commercial broadcast television network that is a flagship property of CBS Corporation. The company is headquartered at the CBS Building in New York City with major facilities and operations in New York City. CBS is sometimes referred to as the Eye Network, in reference to the iconic logo. It has also called the Tiffany Network, alluding to the perceived high quality of CBS programming during the tenure of William S. Paley. It can also refer to some of CBSs first demonstrations of color television, the network has its origins in United Independent Broadcasters Inc. a collection of 16 radio stations that was purchased by Paley in 1928 and renamed the Columbia Broadcasting System. Under Paleys guidance, CBS would first become one of the largest radio networks in the United States, in 1974, CBS dropped its former full name and became known simply as CBS, Inc. In 2000, CBS came under the control of Viacom, which was formed as a spin-off of CBS in 1971, CBS Corporation is controlled by Sumner Redstone through National Amusements, which also controls the current Viacom. The television network has more than 240 owned-and-operated and affiliated stations throughout the United States. The origins of CBS date back to January 27,1927, Columbia Phonographic went on the air on September 18,1927, with a presentation by the Howard Barlow Orchestra from flagship station WOR in Newark, New Jersey, and fifteen affiliates. Operational costs were steep, particularly the payments to AT&T for use of its land lines, in early 1928 Judson sold the network to brothers Isaac and Leon Levy, owners of the networks Philadelphia affiliate WCAU, and their partner Jerome Louchenheim. With the record out of the picture, Paley quickly streamlined the corporate name to Columbia Broadcasting System. He believed in the power of advertising since his familys La Palina cigars had doubled their sales after young William convinced his elders to advertise on radio. By September 1928, Paley bought out the Louchenheim share of CBS, during Louchenheims brief regime, Columbia paid $410,000 to A. H. Grebes Atlantic Broadcasting Company for a small Brooklyn station, WABC, which would become the networks flagship station. WABC was quickly upgraded, and the relocated to 860 kHz. The physical plant was relocated also – to Steinway Hall on West 57th Street in Manhattan, by the turn of 1929, the network could boast to sponsors of having 47 affiliates. Paley moved right away to put his network on a financial footing. In the fall of 1928, he entered talks with Adolph Zukor of Paramount Pictures. The deal came to fruition in September 1929, Paramount acquired 49% of CBS in return for a block of its stock worth $3.8 million at the time

Sara Sidle

Sara Sidle is a fictional character on the CBS crime drama CSI, Crime Scene Investigation, portrayed by actress Jorja Fox. Fox appeared in both the first eight seasons and the five seasons of the show as a series regular. She also recurred throughout the ninth and tenth seasons of the series, Sidle was born on September 16,1971, in Tomales Bay, an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Her father was abusive, alcoholic until Sidles schizophrenic mother, Laura, killed him, when searching for records of the crime in the Season 5 episode No Humans Involved, she searches for records from Modesto. Afterward, she spent time in the care system, which didnt keep her from graduating high school as valedictorian at age 16. She attended Harvard on a scholarship, moving on to school at the University of California. Some time later, while she was working in San Francisco, Sidle went to Las Vegas and helped resolve some Internal Affairs problems within the CSIs while also providing a replacement for Holly Gribbs, who had been shot. Some episodes later, she became a permanent member of the Night Shift as a CSI Level 3 at the LVPD Criminalistics Bureau, specialising in Materials, in Season 8, Sidle briefly changed from Nights to Swing. In the Season 10 premiere, it is revealed Sara is now married to Grissom, in Season 13, Episode 15, Sara revealed that Grissom had split up with her. However in series finale Immortality, Sara and Grissom are ultimately re-united, perhaps because of her traumatic childhood, Sidle has demonstrated compassion and empathy for victims of domestic violence, and fury against their abusers. She also has a spot for animals, and became a vegetarian after she saw Grissom conduct an experiment on a dead pig. In recent years, perhaps because of her mothers schizophrenia, Sara has been seen to work several cases with a mental health aspect. An example of this is when she was able to calm Agent Moores schizphrenic son in 418/427, in the early years of the show, Sidle is depicted as antisocial. Her hobbies are all work-related, and she claims to prefer working with corpses over live people, in a mid-second season episode, she realizes how much she is missing out on and decides to get a life outside of work. During season three she dates a paramedic named Hank Pettigrew, but this relationship later in the season when she discovered that he had a longtime girlfriend. During the fourth and fifth seasons, Sidle seems to be on a spiral as her memories of childhood resurface. Also, the fact that Grissom decided to promote Nick Stokes instead of Sidle, Season Four concludes with Sidle being stopped by a traffic cop. Although she is driving under the influence, she is not charged and he arrives at the station to bring her home, and finally seems to notice her emotional state

Mary Marg Helgenberger is an American actress. She began her career in the early 1980s and first came to attention for playing the role of Siobhan Ryan on the soap opera Ryans Hope from 1982 to 1986. She is also known for roles in the TV series Under the Dome and Intelligence, and the films Species, Species II, Erin Brockovich, Helgenberger was born in Fremont, Nebraska, to Mary Kay, a nurse, and Hugh Helgenberger, a meat inspector. She was raised in North Bend, Nebraska, where she graduated from North Bend Central High School, Helgenberger is of Irish and German descent and had a Roman Catholic upbringing. She has one sister named Ann and a younger brother named Curt. Helgenberger played the French horn in her high school marching band. S. degree in speech, Helgenberger began as a nightly weather person at KHGI-TV in Kearney, Nebraska, while attending college. During the summer she worked as a deboner at her fathers meat packing plant. After portraying the role of Blanche Dubois in a university production of A Streetcar Named Desire, while performing in a summer 1981 NU campus production of Shakespeares Taming of the Shrew, where she played Kate, Helgenberger was spotted by a scout for the TV soap opera Ryans Hope. After nearly four years, Helgenberger left the show in January 1986 to pursue new opportunities, Helgenberger guest starred in an episode of the ABC series Spenser, For Hire, NBCs Matlock and ABCs thirtysomething. She also played a role as Natalie Thayer, opposite Margot Kidder and James Read. She then had a role as Karen Charlene K. C. Koloski, the role earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1990. In 1989, Helgenberger made her film debut in a leading role as an all-night answering service operator in one segment of the Wheat brothers’ horror anthology After Midnight. She followed it up with a role in Steven Spielbergs romantic comedy-drama Always, during the early to mid-1990s, Helgenberger played the love interest to Woody Harrelsons character in The Cowboy Way, and had a small role as Capt. Alison Sinclair in Michael Bays action comedy film Bad Boys and she also played Dr. Laura Baker, a molecular biologist, in Roger Donaldsons sci-fi thriller, Species, and reprised the role in the sequel, Species II. Helgenberger had roles in the television films Not on the Frontline and In Sickness and she played opposite Bruno Kirby in Ill Be Waiting, and as a novelist on the miniseries Stephen Kings The Tommyknockers opposite Jimmy Smits. Gil Grissom

Gilbert Arthur Gil Grissom, Ph. D. is a fictional character on the CBS crime drama CSI, Crime Scene Investigation, portrayed by William Petersen. Grissom is a forensic entomologist and, for the series first nine seasons and he appeared in 198 episodes, and was replaced by Laurence Fishburne and, later, Ted Danson. Following his departure from the main cast, Petersen reprised his role on five occasions. Voice Season 09, Turn, Turn, Turn Season 13, Wild Flower, Dead Air On Screen Season 11, The Two Mrs. Grissoms Petersen also guest starred in Immortality, CSIs feature-length series finale. Anthony E. Zuiker, who created the show, loosely based Grissom on real life Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department criminalist Daniel Holstein, Zuiker was fascinated by Holstein, who, like Grissom, kept maggots and pigs blood in his refrigerator. Holstein works as a consultant for the show, the name Gil came from one of the actors hobbies, fishing. In 2000, CBS had bought the script from Zuiker, and Nina Tassler, CBSs head of drama development, passed it on to Petersen. Petersen has said that many TV shows were offered to him over the years, however, he was impressed with the complexity of Grissoms character, and he decided to audition. It was the second time Petersen portrayed a forensic scientist, having portrayed Will Graham in the 1986 film Manhunter, Gil Grissom first appears in CSI, Crime Scene Investigation on the pilot episode. William Petersen did not appear during the six episode Gum Drops. This episode was going to be how Grissom was convinced that an abduction victim was still alive. When Petersens nephew died, he flew home and was unavailable for the filming of the episode, also in 2007, the character appeared in a two part crossover with another CBS series, Without a Trace. It was the episode of the sixth season entitled Where. The plot of the crossover between CSI and Without a Trace involved a serial killer that had eluded capture in Nevada and had escaped to New York City, Gil Grissom was brought in to assist in the apprehension. Gilbert Arthur Gil Grissom was born on August 17,1956, as a child to a middle-class family in Santa Monica. Grissoms father taught botany at a college and passed his enthusiasm for natural sciences onto his son. Jorja-An Jorja Fox is an American actress and producer. She first came to prominence as a recurring guest star on the medical drama ER as Dr. Maggie Doyle from 1996 to 1999 and this was followed by another critical success in the recurring role of Secret Service Agent Gina Toscano on the political drama The West Wing in 2000. She played Sara Sidle in the procedural drama CSI, Crime Scene Investigation. Fox was born in New York City to Montreal-born parents Edward and Marilyn Fox, and is of French, Belgian and Irish descent and she has an older brother, Jeff. She describes herself as being overweight while growing up, with a prominent gap between her teeth, by her 20s, she observed that neither her wisdom teeth nor braces had appreciably helped, and Fox said forget it. After attending Melbourne High School for two years, she began a career after winning a local contest. She subsequently enrolled as a student at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York. Fox had minor roles in films and television series, including a 1993 episode of the NBC legal drama Law & Order. In 1996, Foxs big break was a role in the NBC medical drama ER. She left the show in 1999, Fox appeared in The Puppy Episode Part 2, the April 30,1997 episode of the sitcom Ellen, in which that series main character came out as gay. In 1999, she was cast as Secret Service Agent Gina Toscano on the NBC political drama The West Wing, Fox has appeared in the films Velocity Trap and Food for the Heart and she also appeared briefly in Memento playing Guy Pearces wife. In 2000, she gained a role on the CBS police procedural drama CSI, Crime Scene Investigation as Sara Sidle. She and CSI co-star George Eads were fired from the show in 2004, Fox had allegedly failed to submit a letter to CBS confirming that she would be on time for shooting. The disputes were resolved in just over a week, and the two were rehired by CBS, however, neither actors salary was raised, in spite of other cast members receiving raises. It was also reported that of the two, Fox was approached first to resume her contract with CSI, but she refused until Eads was rehired as well. On April 18,2007, TV Guide began reporting that Fox may not be returning for the season of CSI. The season finale turned out to be a cliffhanger involving her character, the New York Post reported that Fox did not show up to film the finale because of ongoing issues over her employment. Neither CBS nor Jorjas agent confirmed the allegations, with the help of donations, the campaign also organized plane flyovers over the Universal Studios lot in California where CSI is filmed

Archie David Kao is an American actor. He is best known to American audiences for series regulars roles on Chicago P. D, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy as well as long-running hit CSI, Crime Scene Investigation. Kao grew up in the suburbs of Alexandria, Virginia, Archie, in his formative years, questioned what elephants had to do with agriculture. It has been a question his entire life, <Interview- CBS Radio> While attending George Mason University, Kao joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and graduated with a degree in Speech Communication. As an undergraduate, Kao was elected Student Government President as well as the Universitys Homecoming King and he initially had plans to attend Law School and work in politics before becoming an actor. Kao also speaks and understands Mandarin Chinese because he grew up in a household with two younger sisters. He also studied French for six years and he was named one of Peoples Hottest Bachelors in 2006. Kao currently divides his time between Los Angeles and Beijing. He has also appeared on TV shows such as Desperate Housewives, ER, NBCs Heroes, Century City, Huff, Power Rangers Wild Force, Once and Again, L. A. Firefighters, Maybe This Time and more. David Caruso

David Stephen Caruso is an American actor and producer. His most prominent roles are his portrayals of Lieutenant Horatio Caine on the TV series CSI, Miami and he also appeared in movies such as First Blood, Twins, Kiss of Death, Jade and Proof of Life and An Officer and a Gentleman. David Caruso was born in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, the son of Joan, a librarian, and Charles Caruso and he is of Irish and Italian descent. His father left when he was two years of age, forcing him to end up fathering myself, as he put it, raised as a Roman Catholic, Caruso attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic School in Forest Hills. He later attended Archbishop Molloy High School in nearby Briarwood, graduating in 1974, Caruso worked as a cinema usher, where he would see up to eighty movies a week. He said that he and his coworkers would act out scenes from some of these movies while they were at the back of the theater and it was in this job he found his role models in Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and Edward G. Robinson. He said, The ethics of certain actors certainly had a power over me and these guys taught me how to be what I call a stand up kind of guy. Carusos first film appearance was in the 1980 film Getting Wasted as Danny and he then spent most of the next decade in film supporting roles, appearing in such films as First Blood, An Officer and a Gentleman, Blue City, Thief of Hearts and China Girl. He credits his role as Daniels, the cadet who nearly drowned, in An Officer, on television, he had a recurring role as Tommy Mann, the leader of the street gang The Shamrocks on Hill Street Blues in the early 1980s. He made a appearance on the television series Crime Story which ran from 1986 to 1988 on NBC. In 1984, he portrayed U. S. Olympian James Brendan Connolly in the NBC miniseries The First Olympics and we can see him in the video clip of the French music Voyages Voyages by Desireless in 1986. Caruso had supporting roles as officers in the crime films King of New York and Mad Dog. While filming 1991s Hudson Hawk, he employed method acting, refusing to talk to anyone on set because his character, Kit-Kat, was mute, having had his tongue bitten off. Carusos first major role was in 1993 as Detective John Kelly on the series NYPD Blue, TV Guide named him as one of the six new stars to watch in the 1993–94 season. He made news by leaving the highly rated show the year after failing to obtain the raise he wanted. He was unable to establish himself as a man in films despite starring in the crime thriller Kiss of Death. Horatio Caine

Horatio Caine is a fictional character and the protagonist of the American crime drama CSI, Miami, portrayed by David Caruso. He killed the man who murdered his mother, his own father, in 1995, while on the job, he was stabbed while investigating a case in which children were locked in closets while their parents were murdered. Caine worked undercover as John Walden in Pensacola, Florida for sometime during the early 1990s, during his time there, he dated a woman he believed to be named Julia Eberlie, and the two conceived a son named Kyle. Caine would not be aware of Kyles existence for another 16 years, sometime later he returned to Miami and to being a detective, in Out of Time he references previously working on the bomb squad. Finally, Caine moved to the lab, accepting a promotion to lieutenant, which earned him the animosity of Sergeant Rick Stetler. When veteran CSI Megan Donner went on leave following the death of her husband. In early seasons, Horatio frequently confirms his dedication to the job with the catchphrase We Never Close, Caine is known for wearing sunglasses, one of his trademarks is to put them on prior to making a dramatic remark. In season 8, we learn that this style of sunglasses were originally a gift from Eric Delko in 1997, Horatio was deeply in love with Yelina Salas, his brother Raymonds wife. In season 3 episode 24, she went to Rio with her husband, in season 4, Horatio began a romantic relationship with Marisol Delko, who looked like Yelina, his impossible love. Later, Horatio and Marisol got married and she was killed by the end of season 4, North closes the trunk with Natalia inside and pushes it off the pier. After North pushes the car away, the wounded Caine attempts to shoot North, Caine, unable to stand, attempts to stop the car with Natalia inside. Natalia uses her phone to call for help, but nobody answers as water drips over her. In the tenth-season premiere, Caine begins to have hallucinations of Marisol and she saying she is glad to see him but he needs to go back. He is next shown back at the dock where he was shot, still bleeding from his gunshot wound, he jumps into the water to save Natalia, managing to free her from the car. As they are rushed to the hospital, he repeatedly calls Marisols name and he couldnt forget her because he had a huge feeling of guilty due to he didnt avoid her murder. Against doctors advice, and still visibly in pain, he leaves the hospital to work on the case and he and the team manage to find North, and they try to get him to tell them where Toller is. Horatio manages to find and capture Toller there after he very nearly sets another woman on fire, after leading Toller back to jail, Horatio finally concedes that he is not all right and agrees to get checked out. Adam Michael Rodriguez is an American actor, screenwriter and director. He is best known for his long running role as Eric Delko on CSI and he is currently portraying Task Force Agent and the newest recruit to the BAU Agent Luke Alvez in season 12 of Criminal Minds. Rodriguez was born in Yonkers, New York, the son of Janet, a ticket agent, and Ramon Rodríguez. His father is of half Puerto Rican and half Cuban descent and he attended Clarkstown High School North in New City, New York along with NFL player Keith Bulluck of the New York Giants, where he graduated with the class of 1993. Rodriguez had initially hoped to be a baseball player, but after a high school injury, he turned his attention to acting. Prior to full-time acting, he was a stockbroker and he has appeared in commercials, including one for Coca-Cola. His first film appearance was as an extra in The X-Files and he later appeared on Brooklyn South, Law & Order, Felicity, Roswell, and NYPD Blue. He was a participant in the video, Yes We Can. He joined the main cast of CSI, Miami which premiered in 2002 and directed and he left the main cast 5 episodes into Season 8 and was credited as a recurring cast member for 8 episodes. In Season 9, he returned to the main cast until the show ended with season 10 in 2012, Rodriguez starred in the 2009 Tyler Perry movie I Can Do Bad All By Myself as Sandino, alongside Taraji P. Henson. Rodriguez also co-starred in a film called Love and Debate. He played Bobby, Hildas love interest in season 4 of Ugly Betty and he splits his time between New York and Los Angeles, and has a third residence in Puerto Rico. He appeared in Let The Game Begin and Magic Mike, Rodriguez was recently cast as Luke Alvez, an FBI Fugitive Task Force Agent who joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the twelfth season of Criminal Minds, replacing Shemar Moore. Khandi Alexander is an American dancer, choreographer, and actress. She began her career as dancer in 1980s and was a choreographer for Whitney Houstons world tour from 1988–1992, during 1990s, Alexander has appeared in a number of films, include CB4, Whats Love Got to Do with It, Sugar Hill, and Theres Something About Mary. She starred as Catherine Duke in NBC sitcom NewsRadio from 1995 to 1998 and she also had a major recurring role in NBC medical drama ER as Jackie Robbins, sister to Dr. Peter Benton. Alexander also received acclaim for her leading performance in the HBO miniseries The Corner in 2000. From 2002 to 2009, Alexander starred as Dr. Alexx Woods in the CBS police procedural series CSI, from 2010 to 2013 she starred as LaDonna Batiste-Williams in HBO drama Treme. Lady Heather

Heather Kessler, also known as Lady Heather, is a fictional character on the CBS crime drama CSI, Crime Scene Investigation, portrayed by Melinda Clarke. This recurring character is a dominatrix and a potential romantic interest for then regular CSI supervisor Gil Grissom. The character appears in six episodes of CSI and the 2-hour finale TV movie. Lady Heather was created by writer Jerry Stahl and he has written some of CSIs most controversial episodes, which have also sometimes been the most watched. Bill Keveney of USA Today nominates Lady Heather as a favorite of viewers, steven Cohan explores in his book on the series, Lady Heather as part of the shows questioning of identity and the status of normality. Lady Heather is introduced in a 2001 episode as part of CSIs second season, a murder occurs at Lady Heathers fetish club which the CSI team investigates. Previously unaware of the club and curious about Lady Heathers world and she explains the lifestyle to her, and he admires her almost academic approach to human behavior. Later, they have tea, where she tells him that she has a daughter, Zoë, whos studying at Harvard. Grissom drawn to Heathers intellect, and both characters acknowledge an attraction to other, and as the episode ends, some sexual tension begins to build. William Petersen has said that his character, Grissom, is attracted to Lady Heather because they are both anthropologists, hes fascinated by her the sexual psyche of human beings. In 2002, a year after Lady Heathers first appearance, she appeared again in CSI in its season three and this time, two murders, apparently unrelated, lead the CSIs to her club. The team is surprised to know that her business is going better than ever, and that she now has a website, LadyHeather. com, that she described as Voyeurism in a Brave New World. To parallel the narrative of the episode, the real life URL pointed to a Lady Heather page, the original page has since been taken down, but the URL still redirects to the CSI site. In this episode, Lady Heather opens up a bit more to Grissom. During this episode, it is insinuated that Grissom might have slept with Lady Heather. They are both seen at her house at night, with Grissom approaching her in an intimate way and their intimacy is subdued until the 4th episode containing Lady Heather. In 2006, four years after Lady Heathers second appearance, she comes back in CSIs season six and this time Lady Heathers daughter Zoë has been murdered, and her body has been mutilated and dumped in the desert. She tells the CSIs that Zoës father left her when she was pregnant, Heather also says that while Zoë was at Harvard, Zoë began seeing a psychiatrist and became pregnant with his child

The first season of CSI, Crime Scene Investigation premiered on CBS on October 6,2000, and ended on May 17,2001. The series stars William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger and its all change at the Las Vegas Crime Lab following the shooting death of Holly Gribbs, yet the team still find themselves tasked with solving the bizarre, the brutal, and the impossible. Meanwhile, Brown struggles with an addiction, Sidle adjusts to life in Las Vegas. Jorja Fox joins the main cast in the second episode and it was, however, filmed in 16,9, and the widescreen versions of the episodes are present on the Blu-ray release
