The football in Cava de' Tirreni[edit]

Cavese 1919[edit]

Cavese 1919 is the main football club of Cava de' Tirreni (almost 54.000 inhabitants), a nice town just closed to Amalfitana Coast - Italy. Founded in 1919, this team has reached the most important result in 1981 when Cavese 1919 won the 3rd Division League (Serie C) and participated, for the first time at 2nd Division League (Serie B). Cavese 1919 played, in Serie B, 3 seasons in a row achieving the higher position in 1983/84 season: 6th place. This season became unforgettable for Cavese 1919 supporters, because Cavese was the only team to win against A.C. Milan, one the most famous teams in Italian football, in San Siro during the 1983/84 season on 7th November 1982.

The team was founded in 1919 as Unione Sportiva Cavese,[2]

Without never forgetting its roots, Cavese 1919 sets the tone both on the pitch and beyond, combining its on-field objectives with off-field growth to ensure supporters have a successful and sustainable club befitting of their unwavering passion for "eagle scout - white&blue".[3]

Serie D (4th Italian Division)[edit]

HIGHLIGHTS In the season 2011–12 the team was promoted from Eccellenza Campania/B to Serie D after playoffs.[4]

In the summer 2012 it was renamed U.S.D. Pro Cavese after the merger with A.S.D. Aquilotto Metelliano Cavese (that played in Prima Categoria Salerno) and the obtaining of intangible assets, with the exception of the brand and the sports title, of the historic S.S. Cavese 1919 that currently plays in the youth championship of Juniores Regionale Campania.[5][6]

In the summer 2013 it was renamed U.S.D. Cavese 1919. Since 2017, Cavese 1919 has become a limited liability company and Massimiliano Santoriello is the owner with 90% of shares.
