Charles Babbage Institute

The Charles Babbage Institute is a research center at the University of Minnesota specializing in the history of information technology the history of digital computing, programming/software, computer networking since 1935. The institute is named for Charles Babbage, the nineteenth-century English inventor of the programmable computer; the Institute is located in Elmer L. Andersen Library at the University of Minnesota Libraries in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to holding important historical archives, in paper and electronic form, its staff of historians and archivists conduct and publish historical and archival research that promotes the study of the history of information technology internationally. CBI encourages research in the area and related topics, it serves as an international clearinghouse of resources for the history of information technology. Valuable for researchers are its extensive collection of oral history interviews, more than 400 in total. Oral histories with important early figures in the field have been conducted by CBI staff and collaborating colleagues.

Owing to the poorly documented state of many early computer developments, these oral histories are immensely valuable documents. One author called the set of CBI oral histories "a priceless resource for any historian of computing." Most of CBI's oral histories are available online. The archival collection contains manuscripts, it is now a center at the University of Minnesota, is located on its Twin Cities, Minneapolis campus, where it is housed in the Elmer L. Andersen Library on the West Bank; the CBI has collections of archival papers and oral histories from many notable figures in computing including: CBI was founded in 1978 by Erwin Tomash and associates as the International Charles Babbage Society, operated in Palo Alto, California. In 1979, the American Federation of Information Processing Societies became a principal sponsor of the Society, renamed the Charles Babbage Institute. In 1980, the Institute moved to the University of Minnesota, which contracted with the principals of the Charles Babbage Institute to sponsor and house the Institute.

Lake Mary Chamber of Commerce Building

The Lake Mary Chamber of Commerce Building is a historic site in Lake Mary, United States. It is located at 158 North Country Club Road. On February 11, 2004, it was added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places; the building was built in 1926 by Frank Evans as a community center and offices for the Lake Mary of Chamber of Commerce. The building was used as the City Hall when the city was incorporated in 1973 until 1990 when the current City Hall was completed; the building functions as the Lake Mary Historical Museum. The museum began in 1994 in a small room at the back of the building while the rest of the building was used as a gathering place for the city's seniors The museum now occupies the entire building and includes changing exhibits about local history, art and trains. Pribislav of Serbia

Pribislav was Prince of the Serbs for a year, in 891–892, before being deposed by his cousin Petar. He was the eldest son of Mutimir of the Vlastimirović dynasty, who ruled during the expanding and Christianization of Serbia, his father had with his brothers Strojimir and Gojnik, defeated the Bulgar Army sent by Tsar Boris I of Bulgaria and led by his son Vladimir. Vladimir was captured together with 12 boyars. Boris I and Mutimir agreed on peace, Mutimir sent his sons Bran and Stefan beyond the border to escort the prisoners, where they exchanged items as a sign of peace, Boris himself gave them "rich gifts", while he was given "two slaves, two falcons, two dogs, eighty furs". In the 880s, Mutimir seized the throne, exiling his younger brothers and Klonimir, Strojimir's son to the Bulgar Khanate; this was most due to treachery. Petar, the son of Gojnik, was kept at the Serbian court of Mutimir for political reasons, but he soon fled to Branimir of Croatia. Mutimir died in 891, leaving the throne to his eldest son, Pribislav.

Pribislav only ruled for a year when Petar returned in 892, defeating him in battle and seizing the throne, Pribislav fled to Croatia with his brothers Bran and Stefan. Bran returned and led an unsuccessful rebellion against Petar in 894. Weak entity

In a relational database, a weak entity is an entity that cannot be uniquely identified by its attributes alone. The foreign key is a primary key of an entity it is related to. In entity relationship diagrams, a weak entity set is indicated by a bold rectangle connected by a bold type arrow to a bold diamond; this type of relationship is called an identifying relationship and in IDEF1X notation it is represented by an oval entity rather than a square entity for base tables. An identifying relationship is one where the primary key is populated to the child weak entity as a primary key in that entity. In general a weak entity does not have any items in its primary key other than its inherited primary key and a sequence number. There are two types of weak entities: subtype entities; the latter represents a crucial type of normalization, where the super-type entity inherits its attributes to subtype entities based on the value of the discriminator. In IDEF1X, a government standard for capturing requirements, possible sub-type relationships are: Complete subtype relationship, when all categories are known.

Incomplete subtype relationship. A classic example of a weak entity without a sub-type relationship would be the "header/detail' records in many real world situations such as claims and invoices, where the header captures information common across all forms and the detail captures information specific to individual items; the standard example of a complete subtype relationship is the party entity. Given the discriminator PARTY TYPE the two subtype entities are PERSON, which contains individual-specific information such as first and last name and date of birth, ORGANIZATION, which would contain such attributes as the legal name, organizational hierarchies such as cost centers; when sub-type relationships are rendered in a database, the super-type becomes what is referred to as a base table. The sub-types are considered derived tables. Referential integrity is enforced via cascading deletes. Consider a database that records customer orders, where an order is for one or more of the items that the enterprise sells.

The database would contain a table identifying customers by a customer number. One of the tables could be called Orders and it would have an order number to identify this order uniquely, would contain a customer number to identify who the products are being sold to, plus other information such as the date and time when the order was placed, how it will be paid for, where it is to be shipped to, so on; the other table could be called OrderItem. There may be zero, one or many OrderItem entries corresponding to an Order entry, but no OrderItem entry can exist unless the corresponding Order entry exists; the OrderItem table stores weak entities because an OrderItem has no meaning independent of the Order. Some might argue; this information might be of some use on its own. For example, as soon as you want to find seasonal or geographical trends in the sales of the item, you need information from the related Order record. An order would not exist without a product and a person to create the order, so it could be argued that an order would be described as a weak entity and that products ordered would be a multivalue attribute of the order.
