"Code Blue Plate Special" is the second episode from the thirteenth season of the American crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation which is set in Las Vegas, Nevada. The episode first aired on October 10, 2012.

The episode was directed by Louis Shaw Milito, and was written by Andrew Dettmann.

While the gang's favorite diner's boss Vincent Demarcus is in his walk-in freezer and just after two beat cops left, all other staff and clients are bloodily murdered. Among the victims are Vince's brother Owen, drug cartel hit-man Rob Rios and a witness in the federal protection program under alias Alex Brenner.

Meanwhile, CSI Sara Sidle extremely takes it only personally when she only has eyes for waitress Edie's slick stalker Ronald Basderic, whose footprint is found in the blood, but the rest of the team conscientiously works all angles, including regular guests, especially after working out at least three corpses were moved posthumously.

Three of the bodies were moved after the shooting, including Alex Brenner and Robert Rios. Rios has polar fleece fibers in his lungs, indicating he was wearing a ski mask. He also tests positive for gunshot residue—he wasn’t a victim, he was the shooter. Ballistics come back, revealing that there were two guns at the scene. The second gun belonged to Alex, who is in the Witness Protection Program. He was placed in Las Vegas a week ago after testifying against some very bad people.

It seems like Alex might have been the intended target. The team brings in the man who has been stalking Edie, Ronald Basderic, but they need to find a way to connect him to the murders. They think they’ve found the connection when a newspaper worker locates two guns stuck in the machine outside the diner, and Ronald’s fingerprints are on one of the papers. However, he only touched it because he was pushing it out of the way to get to a newspaper lower down the stack.

CSI Nick Stokes cracks the case when he pulls a foreign coin out of the newspaper slot, and he realizes that Vincent is behind it. He hired Rios to make it look like a robbery and kill his brother, Owen, but the man panicked and killed everyone in the restaurant. When Vincent came out from the back and found out what Rios had done, he picked up the second gun and shot the man before rearranging the bodies and trying to make himself look innocent.

Later, when Basderic's name was cleared due to lack of evidence, after Sidle's restraining order on him was rejected, she berates him about how he tortured Edie, and aggressively explaining the facts.

The episode received 10.70 million viewers.[1]
