Gloria Anne Borrego Galla, known professionally as Gloria Romero, is a Filipino actress. With a career spanning 70 years, she has appeared in over 250 motion pictures and television productions. Referred to as the "Queen of Philippine Cinema", she is known for her sophisticated and demure image. She is one of the major stars of the Golden Age of Philippine Cinema in the 1950s to mid 1960s, becoming the country's highest paid movie actress and one of the top box-office draws of the era.

The FAMAS Award for Best Actress is one of the FAMAS Awards given to people working in the motion picture industry by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Award, which are voted on by Palanca Award-winning writers and movie columnists and writers within the industry.

Nora Aunor is the third actress to be inducted into the FAMAS Hall of Fame for her roles in Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos (1977), Ina Ka ng Anak Mo (1980), Bulaklak sa City Jail (1985), Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit (1990), and Andrea, Paano Ba ang Maging Isang Ina? (1991). She is also the most nominated actress in the category with 17.
Vilma Santos is the second actress to be inducted into the FAMAS Hall of Fame for her roles in Dama de Noche (1973), Pakawalan Mo Ako (1982), Relasyon (1983), Tagos Sa Dugo (1988), and Ibulong Mo Sa Diyos (1989). She is also the youngest recipient of the FAMAS best actress award and the FAMAS Hall of Fame award.
Maricel Soriano has won twice in this category from sixteen nominations for her roles in Dahas (1995) and Nasaan ang Puso (1996).
