Democratic Republic of the Congo at the 2016 Summer Olympics

The Democratic Republic of the Congo competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's tenth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1968, although it had competed in four editions under the name Zaire. Four athletes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, two per gender, were selected to the team across three different sports at the Games. Taekwondo fighter Rosa Keleku, the only qualified sportswoman of the team, served as the nation's flag bearer in the opening ceremony. Democratic Republic of Congo, has yet to win its first Olympic medal. Rodrick Kuku has received a spare continental quota spot freed up by South Africa from the African region as the nation's top-ranked judoka outside of direct qualifying position in the IJF World Ranking List of May 30, 2016. Democratic Republic of the Congo entered one athlete into the taekwondo competition for the first time at the Olympics. Albert E. Carlton

Albert E. Carlton or Bert Carlton was an investor in Colorado banks and railroads. Based upon the success of his mines in Cripple Creek, he was known as "King of Cripple Creek". Albert E. Carlton was born on February 20, 1866, in Warren, Illinois, to H. M. Carlton, a merchant from Massachusetts, he attended Beloit College in Wisconsin. He accepted a clerk position in the mercantile trade after graduation. Carlton came to Colorado in 1889 to improve his health, his health improved by 1891. Carlton was a dry goods store clerk in Colorado Springs. Latching on to the 1891 gold boom in Cripple Creek, Carlton started a freight hauling business from Colorado Midland at Divide with his brother, Leslie; the Colorado Trading and Transfer Company served the mining communities, "eventually gained control of much of the freight business" serving the mining towns. Based upon the income from his freight business, Carlton invested in mines and railroads, he in businesses in Cripple Creek. He was named "King of Cripple Creek" due to the success of his mines there, including Cresson Mine,"one of the most profitable mines in the town."

He owned "nearly every mine in Cripple Creek" and became a millionaire by 1930. Carlton and his wife, Ethel Frizzell-Carlton, built the Carlton House in Pine Valley, Colorado Springs. Carlton purchased the property in 1928 from William A. Otis to build a home for his wife. Mrs. Carlton had become enamored of the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture during her travels across Southern California. Subsequently architect Richard Requa was hired to design their home; the house was a "leading social center in the region." He never lived at the Pine Valley home. Mr. Carlton died in 1931. Anthony Petruccelli

Anthony W. Petruccelli was a Massachusetts state senator for the First Suffolk and Middlesex district, which includes his neighborhood of East Boston and parts of Revere and Cambridge, he is a Democrat who served from 2007–2016. In 2016, Petrucelli left the Senate to join a Boston lobbying firm. Prior to serving in the Senate, he was a state representative from 1999 to 2007. Petruccelli was born and raised in East Boston, parents are Dianne Petruccelli, he is one of four children, Richard and Diana. He attended East Boston Central Catholic School, Boston Latin, Boston College High School, where he was a 3 sport varsity athlete, he attended and played football at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Upon completing 4 years at the University of Rochester, he returned home where he served as a Community Liaison for the East Boston Neighborhood to Mayor Thomas Menino, he is living in East Boston with his wife and his two children Alexa and Anthony

Demographics of Erie, Pennsylvania

As of the census of 2000, there were 103,717 people, 40,938 households, 24,480 families residing in Erie, Pennsylvania. The population density was 1,823.6 km². There were 44,971 housing units at an average density of 790.7 km². The racial makeup of the city was 80.6% White, 14.2% African American, less than 1% each of Native American and Pacific Islander, respectively. 1.9% from other races and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.4% of the population. Erie has long been declining in population due to the departure of many factories; the city has lost over 40,000 people since the early 1970s, allowing Allentown to claim the third largest spot. There were 40,938 households out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 40.2% were non-families. Individuals made up 33.4% of all households and 13.3% had someone living alone, 65 years of age or older.

The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.08. In the city, the population was distributed by age with 25.4% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males. The median income for a household in the city was $28,387, the median income for a family was $36,446. Males had a median income of $30,714 versus $21,828 for females; the per capita income for the city was $14,972. About 13.8% of families and 18.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.0% of those under age 18 and 10.3% of those age 65 or over. Erie was listed; the poorest zip code in Pennsylvania is 16501 earning an average an income of 10,328 annually. The major ethnic groups of the City of Erie are broken down into 24% German, 14% Irish, 14% Polish, 13% Italian, 6% English, 2% Swedish, 2% French, 2% Russian, the remaining 23% make up the ‘other’ category.

Since the mid-1990s, the International Institute of Erie, founded in 1919, has helped with the resettlement of refugees from Bosnia, Ghana, Kosovo, Somalia, the former Soviet Union, Vietnam. In the early 20th century, Erie had a significant Russian immigrant community, many of whom worked in the shipbuilding plants along the bayfront. Unusual for a Great Lakes city, a substantial number of these Russian immigrants were Old Believers. Today, the gold-domed Church of the Nativity, on the bayfront near the former heart of the Russian community, is an Old Believer church, home to famed Icon painter Fr. Theodore Jurewicz. Bishop Daniel of Erie, of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, is based in Erie and is the Vicar President of the Synod of Bishops for the Old Believers. Erie has a Jewish community, over one hundred fifty years old. Temple Anshe Hesed, a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, is served by its spiritual leader, Rabbi John L. Bush. Erie is home to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, covering 13 counties.

Its diocesan seat is the Saint Peter Cathedral in Erie, which has a 265 ft central tower flanked by two 150 ft towers. It is among the tallest churches in the U. S and was constructed in 1873. According to the Association of Religion Date Archives, Erie County had a total 2000 population of 280,843 persons, of which 103,333 claimed affiliation with the Catholic Church, 40,301 with mainline Protestant houses of worship, 12,980 with evangelical Protestant churches
