The United States of America known as the United States or America, is a country composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, various possessions. At 3.8 million square miles, the United States is the world's third or fourth largest country by total area and is smaller than the entire continent of Europe's 3.9 million square miles. With a population of over 327 million people, the U. S. is the third most populous country. The capital is Washington, D. C. and the largest city by population is New York City. Forty-eight states and the capital's federal district are contiguous in North America between Canada and Mexico; the State of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The State of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean; the U. S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The diverse geography and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.
Paleo-Indians migrated from Siberia to the North American mainland at least 12,000 years ago. European colonization began in the 16th century; the United States emerged from the thirteen British colonies established along the East Coast. Numerous disputes between Great Britain and the colonies following the French and Indian War led to the American Revolution, which began in 1775, the subsequent Declaration of Independence in 1776; the war ended in 1783 with the United States becoming the first country to gain independence from a European power. The current constitution was adopted in 1788, with the first ten amendments, collectively named the Bill of Rights, being ratified in 1791 to guarantee many fundamental civil liberties; the United States embarked on a vigorous expansion across North America throughout the 19th century, acquiring new territories, displacing Native American tribes, admitting new states until it spanned the continent by 1848. During the second half of the 19th century, the Civil War led to the abolition of slavery.
By the end of the century, the United States had extended into the Pacific Ocean, its economy, driven in large part by the Industrial Revolution, began to soar. The Spanish–American War and World War I confirmed the country's status as a global military power; the United States emerged from World War II as a global superpower, the first country to develop nuclear weapons, the only country to use them in warfare, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Sweeping civil rights legislation, notably the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, outlawed discrimination based on race or color. During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union competed in the Space Race, culminating with the 1969 U. S. Moon landing; the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 left the United States as the world's sole superpower. The United States is the world's oldest surviving federation, it is a representative democracy.
The United States is a founding member of the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organization of American States, other international organizations. The United States is a developed country, with the world's largest economy by nominal GDP and second-largest economy by PPP, accounting for a quarter of global GDP; the U. S. economy is post-industrial, characterized by the dominance of services and knowledge-based activities, although the manufacturing sector remains the second-largest in the world. The United States is the world's largest importer and the second largest exporter of goods, by value. Although its population is only 4.3% of the world total, the U. S. holds 31% of the total wealth in the world, the largest share of global wealth concentrated in a single country. The United States is the foremost military power in the world, making up a third of global military spending, is a leading political and scientific force internationally. In 1507, the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller produced a world map on which he named the lands of the Western Hemisphere America in honor of the Italian explorer and cartographer Amerigo Vespucci; the first documentary evidence of the phrase "United States of America" is from a letter dated January 2, 1776, written by Stephen Moylan, Esq. to George Washington's aide-de-camp and Muster-Master General of the Continental Army, Lt. Col. Joseph Reed. Moylan expressed his wish to go "with full and ample powers from the United States of America to Spain" to seek assistance in the revolutionary war effort; the first known publication of the phrase "United States of America" was in an anonymous essay in The Virginia Gazette newspaper in Williamsburg, Virginia, on April 6, 1776. The second draft of the Articles of Confederation, prepared by John Dickinson and completed by June 17, 1776, at the latest, declared "The name of this Confederation shall be the'United States of America'".
The final version of the Articles sent to the states for ratification in late 1777 contains the sentence "The Stile of this Confederacy shall be'The United States of America'". WAGA-TV, virtual channel 5, is a Fox owned-and-operated television station licensed to Atlanta, United States. The station is owned by the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of Fox Corporation. WAGA-TV's studios and transmitter are located on Briarcliff Road Northeast in the Druid Hills area of unincorporated DeKalb County, just outside the Atlanta city limits. On cable, the station is available on Comcast Xfinity channels 804 and 1005 and Charter Spectrum channel 5. WAGA-TV first began operations on March 8, 1949; the station was owned by Toledo, Ohio-based Fort Industry Company, which operated WAGA radio, all colloquially called "Wagga". Fort Industry would be renamed Storer Broadcasting after the company's founder, George B. Storer. Channel 5 is Atlanta's second-oldest television station, signing on seven months after WSB-TV. A CBS affiliate, channel 5 carried a secondary affiliation with the DuMont Television Network from 1949 to 1956, it shared the ABC affiliation with WSB-TV until WLTV signed on in September 1951.
During the late 1950s, the station was briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network. Storer sold the WAGA radio stations in 1959. WAGA-TV was the only VHF commercial station in Atlanta, on the same channel from its launch. Though both WSB-TV and WLTV—predecessor of WXIA-TV —initially broadcast over channel 8, the Federal Communications Commission's 1952 Sixth Report and Order reallocated the frequency to Athens and reserved the channel for non-commercial educational use; the University of Georgia returned channel 8 to the air as WGTV, now the television flagship of Georgia Public Broadcasting, in May 1960. WAGA-TV broadcast from studios and transmission facilities located at 1018 West Peachtree Street Northwest; this building would become home to pioneering superstation and leading Atlanta independent station WTBS. On June 21, 1966, channel 5 opened its current facilities in Druid Hills; the studio resembles an antebellum Southern mansion, a type of architecture, typical for Storer's broadcasting facilities.
While this design was somewhat out of place in most of Storer's other markets, it was a perfect fit for Atlanta. WAGA's original transmitter tower was the site of a different tower for WPCH-TV's analog channel 17 signal, a backup for WWWQ; because Storer Cable became part of Comcast, the tower was to be removed by October 2009, ending the land lease. In 1985, WAGA, along with the other Storer stations were sold into a group deal to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. a New York-based private equity firm. Two years in 1987, KKR sold the Storer stations to Gillett Communications. After bankruptcy, Gillett restructured in 1991, selling several stations and changing its name to SCI Television Inc. On June 26, 1991, Gillett Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after it failed to reach an agreement with the company's creditors before a court-imposed June 25 deadline. SCI Television missed repayment of $162 million in bank loans before a June 30 deadline. On February 17, 1993, one day after SCI purchased WTVT in Tampa from Gillett Holdings in a separate agreement for $163 million, New World Pictures purchased a 51% ownership stake in SCI Television from Gillett for $100 million and $63 million in newly issued debt.
The purchase was finalized on May 25, at which point, the film and television production company folded WAGA and its six sister stations—fellow CBS affiliates WJW-TV in Cleveland and WTVT in Tampa–St. Petersburg, WJBK-TV in Detroit and WITI-TV in Milwaukee, NBC affiliate KNSD in San Diego and independent station WSBK-TV in Boston—into a new broadcasting subsidiary, New World Communications; as a result of New World being headquartered in Atlanta, WAGA –, New World's second-largest station, behind WSBK-TV, at the time the SCI purchase was completed – became the company's flagship television station. On May 23, 1994, as part of a broad deal that saw News Corporation acquire a 20% equity interest in the company, New World Communications signed a long-term agreement to affiliate its nine CBS-, ABC- or NBC-affiliated television stations with Fox, which sought to strengthen its affiliate portfolio after the National Football League accepted the network's $1.58 billion bid for the television rights to the National Football Conference – a four-year contract that began with the 1994 NFL season – on December 18, 1993.
WAGA-TV was among the stations involved in the Fox agreement, which initially included four of New World's other existing CBS-affiliated stations — WITI-TV, WJBK-TV, WJW-TV and WTVT — and four additional stations — CBS affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix, ABC affiliates WBRC-TV in Birmingham and WGHP in Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point, North Carolina, NBC affiliate WDAF-TV in Kansas City — that were part of New World's concurrent $360-million acquisition of Great American Communications's television properties. QVC is an American cable and broadcast television network, flagship shopping channel specializing in televised home shopping, owned by Qurate Retail Group. Founded in 1986 by Joseph Segel in West Chester, United States, QVC broadcasts to more than 350 million households in seven countries, including channels in the UK, Germany and Italy, along with a joint venture in China with China National Radio called CNR Mall. QVC was founded on June 1986, by Joseph Segel. One of the first brands to sign a two-year deal with QVC for its products was Sears; the corporation set a new record for first full-year fiscal sales for a new public company of $112 million. Broadcast live from 7:30 p.m. until midnight ET each weekday and 24 hours a day each weekend, the channel extended its live programming to 24/7/364 in January 1987. In 1989, QVC acquired the Cable Value Network, founded by Irwin L. Jacobs; the $380 million deal contributed to a loss of $17 million during the next fiscal quarter, led to difficulties in the couple of years that followed.
On February 2, 1995, Comcast purchased a majority shareholder stake in QVC, Inc. taking control of the corporation. That year, QVC kicked off the "Quest for America's Best: 50 in 50 Tour," a 50-week nationwide product search. Q2, a separate channel for more upscale shoppers, was founded in 1994 but abandoned in 1996. QVC.com was started in 1996 as iQVC. In 1998, two former hosts filed a class-action lawsuit against QVC, claiming that they were discriminated against by the shopping channel based on their race; the lawsuit went on to state that QVC refused to allow non-white hosts any permanent daytime/primetime spots, which relegated them to the overnight hours, otherwise known as the "graveyard shift." Because of this, the non-white hosts were paid less than the white hosts. In July 2003, Comcast sold its majority share to Liberty Media. On September 23, 2007, QVC U. S. rebranded itself, changing online. The rebranding was accompanied by an advertising campaign with the tagline "iQdoU?" that had preceded the rebrand with billboards in major U.
S. cities. The iQdoU? Campaign included a "teaser" website. QVC was the first shopping network to offer a native high-definition simulcast channel in May 2009; the 4:3 cut for its standard definition feed in this 16:9 presentation is made to the right of the screen rather than on both sides of the 4:3 frame, allowing the network to place its graphics to the left and lower portions of the screen to maximize camera presentation space. On September 30, 2010, at 11 p.m. QVC began broadcasting in Italy, both on satellite and through digital terrestrial television. In 2012, QVC partnered with China National Radio to take over operations of its home shopping network and associated internet e-commerce site, its initial reach was reported to be 35 million households. In 2013, QVC partnered with Ion Media Networks to bring its programming to broadcast television, through Ion Television. QVC began to be carried as the fifth digital subchannel on most Ion Television owned-and-operated stations beginning on August 5, 2013.
The channel is broadcast on digital subchannels of low-powered television stations in selected areas. The broadcast service is branded as "QVC Over the Air", with an accompanying on-screen bug appearing on the lower right corner of the screen during the network's programming. In August 2015, QVC acquired the online retailer Zulily for $2.4 billion. On July 6, 2017, QVC's parent company, Liberty Interactive, announced its intention to purchase the remaining 62% of stock it didn't own of HSN, the rival home shopping channel; the all-stock deal is valued at $2.1 billion. On August 22, 2013, QVC launched a timeshift channel called QVC Plus, made available on cable provider Bright House Networks and satellite provider DirecTV, which broadcasts the channel's programming on a three-hour tape delay. On April 1, 2017, QVC Plus was rebranded as QVC2 as a destination for more live programming, now broadcasting live 12 hours a day, Monday through Friday from noon to midnight ET, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-10pm ET.
On October 25, 2016, QVC announced the creation of Beauty iQ, a female-oriented television channel based on beauty products. The network was launched on both DirecTV and Dish Network on October 31, 2016. Beauty iQ aired live programming Monday through Friday, 8pm- Midnight ET. Beauty iQ ceased live programming on March 13, 2019. On April 1, 2019, Beauty iQ was rebranded as QVC3, airing rebroadcasts of recorded QVC and QVC2 programming 24 hours a day. All of QVC's operations run 24 hours a day, although live programming hours vary between each region. QVC has its headquarters in West Chester, Pennsylvania by U. S. Route 202; the $100 million QVC Studio Park complex, located on an 80 acres plot of land, opened in 1997. QVC's U. S. operations are based in the Studio Park complex, which houses its corporate headquarters and broadcasting facilities. Studio Park is the former corporate offices of Commodore Business Machines. Call center facilities are located in Chesapeake and San Antonio, Texas. QVC's distribution centers are located in Pennsylvania.

Laff (TV network)
Laff, legal name Laff Media, LLC, is an American digital multicast television network, owned by Katz Broadcasting, a subsidiary of E. W. Scripps Company; the network specializes in comedy programming, featuring a mix of feature films and archived sitcoms. Laff is targeted at adults between the ages of 18 and 49 years old. Katz sold the network to affiliated TV stations via ad split but by October 2015 had moved to a carriage fees in exchange for the network get the ad inventory due to greater inventory with stations adding a third or fourth subchannel.1 Laff used direct response advertising as a meter of viewers before switching to Nielsen rating C-3 in late 2015.3 Laff's launch was announced by Katz Broadcasting in January 2015 as having a scheduled launch date of April 15, 2015, which coincides with Tax Day in the United States, when tax returns are due and, as Broadcasting & Cable writer Jon Lafayette noted in an article on Laff's launch, "people will need something to make them smile."Katz announced that television stations owned by ABC Owned Television Stations and 13 E. W. Scripps Company would serve as the network's charter affiliates.
On March 13, 2015, Katz Broadcasting announced an affiliation deal with the Cox Media Group to carry Laff on the subchannels of seven of its stations expanding its initial reach to 47% of the country. The following week on March 20, as part of a multi-network affiliation agreement with Katz, the Meredith Corporation announced that it would carry the network on two of its stations. On February 13, 2015, Laff acquired the syndication rights to five sitcoms. Laff followed that deal with three for film licensing with Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures Television by March 17. Laff made a multi-year deal for five sitcoms with Carsey-Werner Productions in April 2016. Roseanne reruns were removed on May 29, 2018 following ABC's cancellation of the show's revival, both decisions were based on a Roseanne Barr tweet considered racist. Laff's comedy-centered programming consists of a mix of theatrically released feature films, as well as off-network sitcoms. Laff would set itself apart from its multicast competitors by carrying more contemporary programming content, in contrast to the reruns of series from the 1980s and earlier found on other over-the-air networks which rely on acquired content.
The network provide additional content via the network's website and mobile app. Laff's program schedule will have access to 250 titles and films from the libraries of three film studios by virtue of multi-year program licensing agreements with Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment. In addition to films, much of Laff's programming lineup consists of reruns of sitcoms spanning over 800 episodes. Pelham is a city in Mitchell County, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Pelham is at the crossroads of US 19 and State Route 93 and is 38 miles south of Albany and about 26 miles north of Thomasville. Pelham was incorporated in 1881 and may have been named in honor of American Civil War officer John Pelham. However, it is just as that it was named for an early employee of the railroad. Pelham is at 31°7′36″N 84°9′10″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles, of which 4.1 square miles is land and 0.25% is water. Pelham has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by mild winters, it receives 52 inches of rain per year. The average number of days with any measurable precipitation is 90. Pelham has on average 233 sunny days per year; the July high is around 93 degrees Fahrenheit. The January low is 39 degrees Fahrenheit; as of the census of 2000, there were 1,467 households and 999 families in the city. The population density was 1,019.2 people per square mile.
There were 1,591 housing units at an average density of 393.0 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 56.13% African American, 41.66% White, 0.24% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, 0.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.43% of the population. There were 1,467 households, out of which 33.9% had children younger than 18 living with them, 35.2% were married couples living together, 28.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 31.9% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone, 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.21. In the city, the population was spread out with 32.1% younger than 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, 16.7% who were 65 or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and older, there were 72.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $20,040, the median income for a family was $24,968. Males had a median income of $21,476 versus $17,161 for females; the per capita income for the city was $10,703. About 29.6% of families and 33.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 47.0% of those younger than 18 and 19.5% of those age 65 or older. The Pelham City School District holds pre-school to grade 12, consists of one elementary school, a middle school and a high school; the district has 101 full-time teachers and over 1,627 students. The American Broadcasting Company is an American commercial broadcast television network, a flagship property of Walt Disney Television, a subsidiary of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. The network is headquartered in Burbank, California on Riverside Drive, directly across the street from Walt Disney Studios and adjacent to the Roy E. Disney Animation Building, But the network's second corporate headquarters and News headquarters remains in New York City, New York at their broadcast center on 77 West 66th Street in Lincoln Square in Upper West Side Manhattan. Since 2007, when ABC Radio was sold to Citadel Broadcasting, ABC has reduced its broadcasting operations exclusively to television; the fifth-oldest major broadcasting network in the world and the youngest of the Big Three television networks, ABC is nicknamed as "The Alphabet Network", as its initialism represents the first three letters of the English alphabet, in order. ABC launched as a radio network on October 12, 1943, serving as the successor to the NBC Blue Network, purchased by Edward J. Noble.
It extended its operations to television in 1948, following in the footsteps of established broadcast networks CBS and NBC. In the mid-1950s, ABC merged with United Paramount Theatres, a chain of movie theaters that operated as a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures. Leonard Goldenson, the head of UPT, made the new television network profitable by helping develop and greenlight many successful series. In the 1980s, after purchasing an 80 percent interest in cable sports channel ESPN, the network's corporate parent, American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. merged with Capital Cities Communications, owner of several print publications, television and radio stations. In 1996, most of Capital Cities/ABC's assets were purchased by The Walt Disney Company; the television network has eight owned-and-operated and over 232 affiliated television stations throughout the United States and its territories. Some of the ABC-affiliated stations can be seen in Canada via pay-television providers, certain other affiliates can be received over-the-air in areas within the Canada–United States border.
ABC News provides news and features content for select radio stations owned by Citadel Broadcasting, which purchased the ABC Radio properties in 2007. In the 1930s, radio in the United States was dominated by three companies: the Columbia Broadcasting System, the Mutual Broadcasting System, the National Broadcasting Company; the last was owned by electronics manufacturer Radio Corporation of America, which owned two radio networks that each ran different varieties of programming, NBC Blue and NBC Red. The NBC Blue Network was created in 1927 for the primary purpose of testing new programs on markets of lesser importance than those served by NBC Red, which served the major cities, to test drama series. In 1934, Mutual filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission regarding its difficulties in establishing new stations, in a radio market, being saturated by NBC and CBS. In 1938, the FCC began a series of investigations into the practices of radio networks and published its report on the broadcasting of network radio programs in 1940.
The report recommended that RCA give up control of either NBC NBC Blue. At that time, the NBC Red Network was the principal radio network in the United States and, according to the FCC, RCA was using NBC Blue to eliminate any hint of competition. Having no power over the networks themselves, the FCC established a regulation forbidding licenses to be issued for radio stations if they were affiliated with a network which owned multiple networks that provided content of public interest. Once Mutual's appeals against the FCC were rejected, RCA decided to sell NBC Blue in 1941, gave the mandate to do so to Mark Woods. RCA converted the NBC Blue Network into an independent subsidiary, formally divorcing the operations of NBC Red and NBC Blue on January 8, 1942, with the Blue Network being referred to on-air as either "Blue" or "Blue Network"; the newly separated NBC Red and NBC Blue divided their respective corporate assets. Between 1942 and 1943, Woods offered to sell the entire NBC Blue Network, a package that included leases on landlines, three pending television licenses, 60 affiliates, four operations facilities, contracts with actors, the brand associated with the Blue Network.
Investment firm Dillon, Read & Co. offered $7.5 million to purchase the network, but the offer was rejected by Woods and RCA president David Sarnoff. Edward J. Noble, the owner of Life Savers candy, drugstore chain Rexall and New York City radio station WMCA, purchased the network for $8 million. Due to FCC ownership rules, the transaction, to include the purchase of three RCA stations by Noble, would require him to resell his station with the FCC's approval; the Commission authorized the transaction on October 12, 1943. Soon afterward, the Blue Network was purchased by the new company Noble founded, the American Broadcasting System. Noble subsequently acquired the rights to the American Broadcasting Company name from George B. Storer in 1944. Telemundo is an American Spanish language terrestrial television network owned by Comcast through NBCUniversal. It is the second largest provider of Spanish language content nationally behind American competitor Univision, with programming syndicated worldwide to more than 100 countries in over 35 languages; the channel broadcasts programs and original content aimed at Latin American audiences in the United States and worldwide, consisting of telenovelas, reality television, news programming and films — either imported or Spanish-dubbed. In addition, Telemundo operates NBC Universo, a separate channel directed towards young Hispanic audiences. Telemundo is headquartered in the Miami suburb of Beacon Lakes, has 1,900 employees worldwide; the majority of Telemundo's programs are filmed at an operated studio facility in Miami, where 85% of the network's telenovelas were filmed during 2011. The average hourly primetime drama costs $70K to produce. Launched as NetSpan in 1984, the network was renamed Telemundo in 1987, after the network owners purchased the previous owner of WKAQ-TV, a television station in San Juan, Puerto Rico, branded on air as Telemundo.
WKAQ-TV was signed on on March 28, 1954, was founded by Ángel Ramos – owner of Puerto Rico's main newspaper at the time, El Mundo, the U. S. territory's first radio station, WKAQ. Ramos wanted to maintain a consistent branding for his media properties based around the "mundo" theme, chose to brand his new television property as "Telemundo". On April 14, 1983, Ramos sold WKAQ-TV to John Co.. In 1984, the owners of WNJU in Linden, New Jersey and KSTS in San Jose, California formed NetSpan, the second Spanish-language television network in the continental United States; these stations joined KVEA in Los Angeles, run by its general manager and part-owner Joe Wallach, in 1985. The following year, KVEA's part-owner, Reliance Group Holdings, acquired the Telemundo brand when it purchased John Blair & Co. which owned WSCV in Fort Lauderdale–Miami-West Palm Beach in addition to WKAQ-TV. In late 1986, Reliance purchased WNJU. In 1987, Reliance Capital Group executives Saul Steinberg and Henry Silverman merged all these stations into the Telemundo Group.
The new corporation went public, in 1987, Reliance decided to rebrand NetSpan as Telemundo. That year, it purchased additional stations in San Francisco and San Antonio. Between 1988 and 1993, Telemundo acquired or affiliated with television stations in Texas, New Mexico and Washington, D. C.. In May 1992, Telemundo underwent another management change, appointing former Univision president Joaquin Blaya – who resigned from that network after discovering in an FCC filing for A. Jerrold Perenchio's purchase of the network from Hallmark Cards that Univision would increase its reliance on programming from Televisa and Venevision to levels that resulted in him concluding that there would be fewer opportunities for the addition of local programs on Univision's stations, was subsequently joined by four other Univision executives – to head the network; the following year in 1993, Telemundo underwent an extensive rebranding, introducing the signature framed "T" letter logo, a promotional campaign using the slogan "Arriba, Arriba".
The network began to produce its own original telenovelas, the first of which to premiere were Angélica, mi vida, Guadalupe, Señora Tentación and Tres Destinos. International distributors soon approached the network for the syndication rights to air these programs on television networks in other countries. Telemundo's effort faced an initial setback when Mexico's leading broadcaster, purchased production company Capitalvision, producing the telenovelas in conjunction with the network. Parent company Telemundo Group experienced major financial challenges during this time, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1994, due to a debt load of more than $300 million that the company owed to its creditors. In an effort to boost its tepid ratings and quell complaints from advocacy organizations such as the National Hispanic Media Coalition that criticized both networks for not featuring content relatable to American Latinos, Telemundo outlined a new strategy to better compete against Univision by increasing production of domestically produced programs.
In 1995, under the direction of executive vice president of programming Harry Abraham Castillo, Telemundo opened its first network studio on the West Coast. Housed at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, the network began daily production of three shows on the lot that year: La Hora Lunática, a daytime talk-variety show hosted by Los Angeles radio personality Humberto Luna, comedians Mario Ramírez Reyes "El Comodín" and Hugo Armando, producer Jackie Torres.
