Marcus Murphy (born October 3, 1991) is an American football running back and return specialist for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Missouri.[1] While at Missouri, he was named as a First-team All-SEC selection in 2014. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.[2]

Early years[edit]

Murphy attended and played football at DeSoto High School.[3]

College career[edit]

Murphy attended and played college football at the University of Missouri from 2010–2014.[4] In the 2010 season, he had 22 carries for 181 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.[5] He used a redshirt in the 2011 season due to a right shoulder injury.[6] In the 2012 season, Missouri's first in the SEC, he had 46 carries for 251 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.[7] In the 2013 season, he had 92 carries for 601 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.[8] In the 2014 season, he had 177 carries for 924 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.[9]

Professional career[edit]

New Orleans Saints[edit]

Murphy was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round, 230th overall, of the 2015 NFL Draft.[10] He was mainly used on special teams, where he returned a punt for a touchdown in a Week 3 game against NFC South division rival Carolina.[11][12] He appeared in three games and handled some return duties in the 2016 season for the Saints.[13]

On July 26, 2017, Murphy was waived by the Saints.[14]

New York Jets[edit]

On July 27, 2017, Murphy was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets.[15] On September 3, 2017, he was waived by the Jets and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[16][17] He was released on October 3, 2017.[18]

Indianapolis Colts[edit]

On October 9, 2017, Murphy was signed to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad.[19] He was released on October 24, 2017.[20]

Buffalo Bills[edit]

On November 6, 2017, Murphy was signed to the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.[21] He was promoted to the active roster on December 26, 2017.[22] In Week 17, he made his Bills debut and had seven carries for 41 rushing yards and two receptions for seven yards against the Miami Dolphins.[23]
