London
–
London /ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of the island of Great Britain and it was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. Londons ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1. 12-square-mile medieval boundaries. London is a global city in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism. It is crowned as the worlds largest financial centre and has the fifth- or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world, London is a world cultural capital. It is the worlds most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the worlds largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic, London is the worlds leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. Londons universities form the largest concentration of education institutes in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted the modern Summer Olympic Games three times, London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region. Its estimated mid-2015 municipal population was 8,673,713, the largest of any city in the European Union, Londons urban area is the second most populous in the EU, after Paris, with 9,787,426 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The citys metropolitan area is the most populous in the EU with 13,879,757 inhabitants, the city-region therefore has a similar land area and population to that of the New York metropolitan area. London was the worlds most populous city from around 1831 to 1925, Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Pauls Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world, the etymology of London is uncertain. It is an ancient name, found in sources from the 2nd century and it is recorded c.121 as Londinium, which points to Romano-British origin, and hand-written Roman tablets recovered in the city originating from AD 65/70-80 include the word Londinio. The earliest attempted explanation, now disregarded, is attributed to Geoffrey of Monmouth in Historia Regum Britanniae and this had it that the name originated from a supposed King Lud, who had allegedly taken over the city and named it Kaerlud. From 1898, it was accepted that the name was of Celtic origin and meant place belonging to a man called *Londinos. The ultimate difficulty lies in reconciling the Latin form Londinium with the modern Welsh Llundain, which should demand a form *lōndinion, from earlier *loundiniom. The possibility cannot be ruled out that the Welsh name was borrowed back in from English at a later date, and thus cannot be used as a basis from which to reconstruct the original name. Until 1889, the name London officially applied only to the City of London, two recent discoveries indicate probable very early settlements near the Thames in the London area

Randolph admired the fledgling e-commerce company Amazon and wanted to find a category of portable items to sell over the internet using a similar model. He and Hastings considered and rejected VHS tapes as too expensive to stock and too delicate to ship. When they heard about DVDs, which were available in only a few markets in 1997, when the disc arrived intact, they decided to take on the $16 billion home video sales and rental industry. Netflix introduced the monthly subscription concept in September 1999, and then dropped the model in early 2000. Womack was told to sing whatever was on his mind during the recording of Stylo, I was in there for an hour going crazy about love and politics, getting it off my chest, said Womack. After an hour of recording, Womack, a diabetic, started to pass out and he was sat down and given a banana, before waking up minutes later. A demo form of the track, then just a beat, was premiered on the Zane Lowe show on 14 January 2009, along with Electric Shock. About a week before the premiere, Parlophone president Miles Leonard described the song as a dark. The single was leaked onto the internet on 20 January 2010, Murdoc stated on his Twitter account, A leak. Plastic Beach has sprung a leak, one of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole on my island. Plastic Beach
–
Plastic Beach is the third studio album by the British virtual band Gorillaz, released on 3 March 2010 by Parlophone Records internationally and by Virgin Records in the United States. Conceived from an unfinished Gorillaz project called Carousel, the album was recorded from June 2008 to November 2009, Plastic Beach debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, selling approximately 74,432 copies in its first week of sales. It debuted at two on the US Billboard 200 chart with 112,000 copies in its first week of sales. Plastic Beach received mostly positive reviews, and was named one of the years best albums by several critics. In the November 2007 issue of Q, when asked what his top priority for 2008 was, Damon Albarn replied Well, Im doing the next Gorillaz thing and those were presented as by The Who even though none of the members of the band were in the movies. I dont think anyone from The Who was in Quadrophenia, but its the same people working on it, thats the principle. In a July 2008 interview with The Observer he also said, thats my ideal model — Gorillaz is a group of people who gave you this, and now want to give you new stuff. Weve started work — Ive done a lot of visuals and Damons done a lot of music, I cant say much about it yet but its sort of like a film, but not with one narrative story. Theres many stories, told around a story, set to music. Originally it was a film but now we think its a film and its a thing as well. Look, its basically us doing what the fuck we want without worrying about whether its for a company or a film company or whatever. So Im not sure how itll pan out, or even if it will happen, but Damons written around 70 songs for it, and Ive got great plans for the visuals, but right now, at this moment, its still just a really good idea. Carousel was to be about the aspects of Britain. Damon Albarn got the idea for Plastic Beach while on a next to his house, I was just looking for all the plastic within the sand. On 17 September 2008, Albarn and Jamie Hewlett announced that they would be doing another Gorillaz album in an interview with CBC News, Hewlett said that from their work on Monkey, we just learned more about what we do, musically and artistically. Thats a great place to come at when we come to another Gorillaz album and it doesnt have to be animation and music. Hewlett also expressed annoyance at having to draw the band members again, but then we had a moment where we had a new angle on it. In a later interview Hewlett said, theyll be the same characters, Albarn said in September 2008 that he wanted to work with an incredibly eclectic, surprising cast of people

Rock the House (Gorillaz song)
–
Rock the House is a song from Gorillaz self-titled debut album Gorillaz. It was released as the single from the album in October 2001. It peaked at number 18 on the UK Singles Chart, the song features a horn section loop sampled from Modesty Blaise, a piece by British jazz musician John Dankworth. The chorus also features a sample of How Many People, an 1980s hip-hop track by American rapper John Forté. Rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien is the only artist to provide vocals for the song, in Gorillaz, Rise of the Ogre, 2-D claims to have played some divvy panpipes for Rock the House during a track-by-track of the Gorillaz album. Murdoc is stunned by this and repeats his disbelief briefly during the section on the video, for the radio edit of the song, the line which features the words Shake your ass-crack is cut. Instead, the features the orchestral type sound, which features after the trumpet riff at the start of the song. The music video for Rock the House was directed by Jamie Hewlett and it starts with a shot of the gate of Kong Studios. The camera then follows Noodle on a tricycle through the hallways of the building and it leads past a door to a room where Gorillaz are performing. A white mist appears among them and Russel passes out, then we see the floor has turned into the ghost of Del, who rises up and throws the Gorillaz to the ground. Del is outfitted with protective gear including a helmet, in Rise of the Ogre it explains he is dressed as Mr. Freedom. Del takes a few steps when from behind him a series of spring-loaded guns shoot billiard balls at him, a series of inflatable female gorillas appear and start to do cheerleading. 2-D is dodging the balls being shot at him by doing dance moves, Murdoc then begins to divert the balls with a padded jockstrap he is wearing, hitting them away with his pelvic thrusts. He is successful a dozen times until a ball ricochets off the padded wall, the ball ricochets and hits Russel in the head, waking him up and making Del disappear. Russel looks around, noticing 2-D is unconscious, Murdoc is standing bowlegged, the final scene is a backwards shot of the first one. In this music video, like other music videos for Gorillaz, Murdoc can be seen wearing his inverted cross necklace
