Wilshire/Vermont is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles Metro system. It is located at Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, in Los Angeles' Mid-Wilshire/Koreatown District; this station is served by the Purple Line. As its name implies, Wilshire/Vermont station is located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue; the station itself is to the east of the intersection, allowing diverging Red Line trains to head north underneath Vermont. A number of educational institutions, including Southwestern University and the Robert F Kennedy Community Schools, are located nearby. Above the station is the Wilshire Vermont Station mixed-use transit village development, a $136-million apartment and retail complex designed by the architecture firm Arquitectonica and developed by Urban Partners and MacFarlane Partners on land owned by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority; the development opened in 2007 and includes apartments, an adjacent middle school.
The property is managed by Greystar Real Estate Partners. The station is located where the Red Line and Purple Line converge on their way to Downtown Los Angeles; the station is designed with two platform levels: eastbound Purple and Red Line trains use the upper level, westbound Purple and Northbound Red trains use the lower level. The artwork at the station depicts typographic symbols designed by Bob Zoell; the letters on the pillars of the lower platform spell out "going by-by", what the red line and its patrons do when they zoom in and out of the station. Addition artwork at the station is the creation of Peter Shire; the Wilshire/Vermont station contains the two longest continuous escalators in the state of California (in fact, west of the Mississippi. Washington Boulevard (Los Angeles)
Washington Boulevard is an east-west arterial road in Los Angeles County, California spanning a total of. Its western terminus is the Pacific Ocean just west of Pacific Avenue and straddling the border of the Venice Beach and Marina Peninsula neighborhoods of Los Angeles; the Boulevard extends eastbound to the city of Whittier, at Whittier Boulevard. It is south of Venice Boulevard for most of its length. At Wade Street, Washington Place is formed adjacent and parallel and lasts until just east of Sepulveda Boulevard, where it merges back into Washington Boulevard. Washington merges into Culver Boulevard but forms back into its own street at Canfield Avenue. Washington Boulevard, four lanes passes through locations in the mid southern portion of Los Angeles County; the communities to the west include affluent areas such as Ladera Heights. Further east it passes between Crestview and Culver City and through Mid City, Arlington Heights, Pico Union, City of Commerce, Pico Rivera, Los Nietos and Whittier.
Washington Boulevard is the dividing line between Venice and the Los Angeles neighborhood of Marina Peninsula which sits south of the Boulevard from the Pacific Ocean to Via Marina drive. East of Via Marina is the unincorporated area of Marina del Rey. In 1905, when the road was known as Washington Street, it boasted the headquarters of the local horse driving club, for a mile west of Western Avenue. "The road is not of the best," reported the Los Angeles Times, "and automobiles are usurping it... but it is the nearest approach to a speedway the reinsmen have, they therefore make the most of it." Mayor Owen McAleer "has set aside that stretch of the highway to those drivers who delight in vying with each other off the racetrack, policemen have been given to understand that some latitude is to be allowed horsemen there." Washington Boulevard provides bus service between Venice Beach and West LA Transit Center by Culver City Transit line 1, between West LA Transit Center and Downtown by Metro Local line 35, east of Downtown by Montebello Transit line 50.
A portion of the Metro Blue line runs along Washington Boulevard, from Flower Street to Long Beach Avenue, while the Metro Expo Line serves a rail station near the intersection with National Boulevard. The entire route is in Los Angeles County. There are no postmiles because the street is maintained by not Caltrans. Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery LA Trade Tech College is located at Grand Avenue near the Blue Line station of the same name; the RPM International building is located on the corner of Westmorland Blvd. and Washington Blvd., dedicated as the "Ray Charles Square". Wilshire/Western is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It is located at Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, in Los Angeles' Mid-Wilshire/Koreatown District; this station is served by the Purple Line. Wilshire/Western was the western terminus of the Purple Line when it opened, is one of only two subway stations in the system not served by the Red Line. Prior plans called for this subway to extend to Fairfax Ave. and north into the Valley but due to political disagreements, the line terminates here and the Red Line travels to the Valley via Vermont Avenue. Metro is now constructing the Purple Line Extension to extend the Purple Line west from this station to an eventual terminus station in Westwood, near UCLA; the two artwork installations at Wilshire/Western are called "People Coming", the other "People Going". They are large murals at each end of the station; the artist responsible is a Compton native. A condominium tower named Solair opened above the station in 2009.

Westlake/MacArthur Park station
Westlake/MacArthur Park is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It is located at Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, across from the park of the same name in Los Angeles' Westlake District; this station is served by the Purple Line. Westlake/MacArthur Park is one of L. A.'s five original subway stations: when it opened in 1993, it was the western terminus of the Red Line before completion of the Wilshire/Western branch and North Hollywood branch that decade. This station has two tile murals designed by entitled El Sol and La Luna; the station has artwork by Therman Statom. Right outside the station, MacArthur Park and a lively street scene of a Salvadorean and Honduran population is in stark contrast to the Manhattan-like metropolitan environment one station to the east; the entrance to the station is only a few steps away from the landmark Langer's Deli, famous for its pastrami. Workers from downtown offices jump on the Red Line or Purple Line in order to have lunch there or send someone to pick up food for take-out.
Langer's credits the Red Line's opening with saving their business in the late 1980s, when MacArthur Park's once glittering reputation had decayed to notorious at best. Langer's Deli is featured in one of 13 ceramic mosaic murals located inside the MacArthur Park station; the porcelain murals, by Los Angeles artist Sonia Romero and fabricated by Mosaika Art & Design, were named one of the best public art projects in the United States by the organization Americans for the Arts. The station was featured in the film Volcano as the Red Line subway outside MacArthur Park where a massive volcano erupted, causing an earthquake that derails Train no. 526, in the tunnel and lava engulfed and melted it. This article reflects practice in jurisdictions where vehicles are driven on the right. If not otherwise specified, "right" and "left" can be reversed to reflect jurisdictions where vehicles are driven on the left. An intersection is an at-grade junction where two or more roads cross. Intersections may be classified by number of road segments, traffic lane design. One way to classify intersections is by the number of road segments. A three-way intersection is a junction between three road segments: a T junction when two arms form one road, or a Y junction – the latter known as a fork if approached from the stem of the Y. A four-way intersection, or crossroads involves a crossing over of two streets or roads. In areas where there are blocks and in some other cases, the crossing streets or roads are perpendicular to each other. However, two roads may cross at a different angle. In a few cases, the junction of two road segments may be offset from each when reaching an intersection though both ends may be considered the same street.
Five-way intersections are less common but still exist in urban areas with non-rectangular blocks. An example of this is the intersection. Six-way intersections involve a crossing of three streets at one junction. Seven or more approaches to a single intersection, such as at Seven Dials, are rare. Another way of classifying intersections is by traffic control technology: Uncontrolled intersections, without signs or signals. Priority rules may vary by country: on a 4-way intersection traffic from the right has priority. For traffic coming from the same or opposite direction, that which goes straight has priority over that which turns off. Yield-controlled intersections may not have specific "YIELD" signs. Stop-controlled intersections have one or more "STOP" signs. Two-way stops are common, while some countries employ four-way stops. Signal-controlled intersections depend on traffic signals electric, which indicate which traffic is allowed to proceed at any particular time. A traffic circle is a type of intersection.
Types of traffic circles include roundabouts,'mini-roundabouts','rotaries', "STOP"-controlled circles, signal-controlled circles. Some people consider roundabouts to be a distinct type of intersection from traffic circles. A box junction can be added to an intersection prohibiting entry to the intersection unless the exit is clear; some intersections employ indirect left turns to reduce delays. The Michigan left combines a U-turn. Jughandle lefts diverge to the right curve to the left, converting a left turn to a crossing maneuver, similar to throughabouts; these techniques are used in conjunction with signal-controlled intersections, although they may be used at stop-controlled intersections. Other designs include advanced stop lines, parallel-flow and continuous-flow intersections, hook turns, seagull intersections, slip lanes, staggered junctions, Texas Ts, Texas U-turns and turnarounds. A roundabout and its variants like turbo roundabouts and distributing circles like traffic circles and right-in/right-out intersections.
At intersections, turns are allowed, but are regulated to avoid interference with other traffic. Certain turns may be not allowed or may be limited by regulatory signs or signals those that cross oncoming traffic. Alternative designs attempt to reduce or eliminate such potential conflicts. At intersections with large proportions of turning traffic, turn lanes may be provided. For example, in the intersection shown in the diagram, left turn lanes are present in the right-left street. Turn lanes allow vehicles to exit a road without crossing traffic. Absence of a turn lane does not indicate a prohibition of turns in that direction. Instead, traffic control signs are used to prohibit specific turns. Turn lanes improve safety. Turn lanes can have a dramatic effect on the safety of a junction. In rural areas, crash frequency can be reduced by up to 48% if left turn lanes are provided on both main-road approaches at stop-controlled intersections. At signalized intersections, crashes can be reduced by 33%.
Results are lower in urban areas. Turn lanes are marked with an arrow bending into the direction of the turn, to be made from that lane. Multi-headed arrows indicate that vehicle drivers may travel in any one of the directions pointed to by an arrow. Traffic signals facing vehicles in turn lanes have arrow-shaped indications. Green arrows indicate protected turn phases. Red arrows may be displayed to prohibit turns in that direction. Red arrows may be displayed along with a circular green indication to show that turns in the direction of the arrow are prohibited, but other movements are allowed. In some jurisdictions, a red
Hollywood/Vine is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It is located below the intersection of Vine Street; this station is served by the Red Line. The central station of the three subway stops in Hollywood, it is within walking distance of many important landmarks including the Capitol Records Building; the Hollywood Walk of Fame is upstairs, while the Pantages Theatre is across the street. Other attractions include CBS Columbia Square, the Frolic Room, Gower Gulch, the Sunset and Vine apartment complex, the Hollywood Palladium. In accordance with Metro's initiatives to spur transit-oriented development around its stations, Hollywood/Vine has become a prime target for regeneration; the W Hotel opened a 300-room location in a 2.3-acre mixed-use site with condominiums and 30,000 sq ft of street retail space. In addition, the 1600 Vine complex to the south contains 375 apartments and 28,000 sq ft of street-level retail. Hollywood/Vine opened on June 12, 1999, as the western terminus of the northern branch of the Red Line.
Upon the opening of the westward extension to North Hollywood in 2000, it lost its title as the end of the line. Like most stations on the Metro, Hollywood/Vine uses an island platform setup with two tracks. There is an entrance to the east of the intersection at Argyle Avenue; each Red Line station was assigned a professional artist to design the aesthetic appeal and personality of the station. Local Los Angeles Chicano artist Gilbert Luján was selected to design this station. "Light" was one of the central themes of the station because of its pervasiveness in Hollywood, from stars to light that passes through projectors to show films to the sun in sunny southern California. Cultural motifs in the form of So Cal cultural icons are prevalent throughout the myriad of ceramic tiles lining the walls of the corridors as passengers descend into the railway tunnel. Benches for waiting passengers were fashioned as classic car lowriders on pedestals; the station has the most detail and decorations of any station in the entire Metro system.
This station is among the most pleasant and "fun" stations and tourists may find this station the most enjoyable. Other features include two movie projectors donated by Paramount Pictures pointed towards a representation of a movie screen flanked by large curtains; the ceiling of the station is covered with empty film reels. Pillars that provide support for the station are designed to look like palm trees, beneath the handrail of the stairs are musical notes for the famed song "Hooray for Hollywood." Passengers making their way to the street follow the "Yellow Brick Road" while passing many colored tiles that depict icons or represent southern California lifestyle. Vermont/Sunset is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It is located at Vermont Avenue and Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, among the East Hollywood neighborhoods of Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Little Armenia; this station is served by the Red Line. The intersection of Vermont/Sunset is home to three major area hospitals: Kaiser Permanente, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center; the station's main entrance is on the northeast corner of Vermont and Sunset, next to the Saban Research building of CHLA. There is an elevator-only entrance on the northwest corner, in front of Kaiser. Michael Davies is the artist for the Vermont/Sunset station, depicting several different themes, the main ones being medical colors and slides blended with a futuristic space theme; the medical slides placed into circular orbits on the floor of the upper platform area are real slides of human cellular structures, including red blood cells, chromosomes and sperm.
