The neon tetra is a freshwater fish of the characin family of order Characiformes. The type species of its genus, it is native to blackwater and clearwater streams in the Amazon basin of South America, its bright colouring makes the fish visible to conspecifics in the dark blackwater streams, is the main reason for its popularity among freshwater fish hobbyists. The neon tetra is found in the western and northern Amazon basin in southeastern Colombia, eastern Peru, western Brazil, it lives in waters with a temperature between 20 and 28 °C and pH 4–7.5. It has a preference for acidic blackwater streams, but occurs in transparent clearwater streams, it is not found in the whitewater rivers. The neon tetra has a light-blue back over a silver-white abdomen; the fish is characterized by an iridescent blue horizontal stripe along each side of the fish from its nose to the base of the adipose fin, an iridescent red stripe that begins at the middle of the body and extends posteriorly to the base of the caudal fin.
They develop a dark olive-green sheen lining on their backs. The fish is transparent except for these markings. During the night, the blue and red become gray or black as the fish rests—it reactivates once it becomes active in the morning, it grows to 3 cm in overall length. Sexual dimorphism is slight, with the female having a larger belly, a bent iridescent stripe rather than the male's straight stripe, they have become available in a long-fin variety. The neon tetra was first imported from South America and was described by renowned ichthyologist Dr. George S. Myers in 1936, named after Dr. William T. Innes. P. innesi is one of the most popular aquarium fish, having been bred in tremendous numbers for the trade. Most neon tetras available in the United States are imported from Hong Kong and Thailand, where they are farm-raised, or to a lesser extent from Colombia and Brazil, where they are collected from the wild. During a single month, an average of 1.8 million neon tetras with an estimated value of $175,000 are imported into the United States for the aquarium trade.
With the exception of home aquarists and a few commercial farms that breed neon tetras experimentally, captive breeding on a commercial scale is nonexistent in the USA. While commercially bred neon tetras have adapted well to a wide range of water conditions, in the wild they inhabit soft, acidic waters that are cooler than the 25 °C at which most tropical aquaria are maintained, they can have a lifespan of up to ten years, or about five in an aquarium. Neon tetras reach 3.5 cm in length, are considered easy to keep in a community aquarium of at least 50 cm long, with a pH of 6.0 to 6.5 and a KH of 1.0 to 2.0. However, they will die, they tend to be timid and, because of their small size, should not be kept with large or aggressive fish which may bully or eat them. Fish that mix well in an aquarium are guppies, dwarf cichlids, smaller danionins and barbs, other types of tetras, such as the rummy-nose tetra, cardinal tetra, glowlight tetra, other community fish that live well in an ideal tetra water condition.
Mid-level feeders, they are best kept in schools of six or more, for the shoaling effect when they move around the tank. They shoal in the wild and are thus more brightly colored and more active when kept as a shoal as opposed to singly; the color and the iridescent stripe of this fish may become dim at night, can be invisible after a period of darkness. The color may fade during a period of stress, such as human intervention into the tank. Neons are best kept in a densely planted tank with subdued light and an ideal temperature of 21–27 °C to resemble their native Amazon environments. Neon tetras are omnivores and will accept most flake foods, if sufficiently small, but should have some small foods such as brine shrimp, freeze-dried bloodworms, which can be stuck to the side of the aquarium, micropellet food to supplement their diets. A tropical sinking pellet is ideal, as most brands of these include natural color enhancers that bring out the color in neon tetras; some frozen foods, including frozen blood worms, add variety to their diets.
The male is slender, the blue line is straighter. The female is rounder; some aquarists say. However, the straightness of the line and the plumpness of the female might be due to the eggs she is carrying. A neon tetra can appear plump in the belly due to having overeaten. To breed neon tetras, hobbyists place a pair of the species in a breeding tank without any light, increase the lighting until reproduction occurs. Other inducers include mosquito larvae and a hardness of less than 4 dGH; some recommend letting the level of nitrates rise doing at least a 50% water change to simulate the fresh rain the tetras get in their natural habitat in the Amazon. Everything placed in the aquarium is sterilized; because the adults, other fishes if a breeding tank is not used, will eat newly hatched fry, it is common to remove the eggs as soon as they have been laid. The eggs are sensitive to light, hatch within 24 hours of the laying. Fry can be fed infusoria rotifers and egg yolk for one to four weeks, followed by nauplii of brine shrimp, shaved cattle liver, formulated diets.
Fry achieve their adult coloration at about one month of age. Adults can spawn every two weeks. Breeding neon tetras is considered to be difficult in home aquariums. H

"OMG" is a song recorded by Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello featuring guest vocals from American rapper Quavo. It was released on August 3, 2017 as a promotional single alongside "Havana, from her debut studio album Camila titled "The Hurting; the Healing. The Loving. "OMG" was removed from the final track listing. The song was written by Cabello, Charli XCX, Noonie Bao, Sasha Sloan and its producers Stargate. "OMG" has a slow, trap production, characterized by use of double hi-hat rolls, flute flows and a smooth bass. In the lyrics, Cabello praises the appearance of her love interest while Quavo responds to her affirmation in his verses, where he added a line from his Migos's song "Bad and Boujee"; the song was included as part of Cabello's set list for Bruno Mars's 24K Magic World Tour, where she served as an opening act. Music critics complimented the track's club-friendly sound while others perceived Cabello's versatility for performing verses written by Charli XCX as well as her dynamic with Quavo.
On its first full tracking-week, "OMG" entered the top 100 on charts from several countries, including the U. S, UK, Scotland and Portugal, it was most successful in Spain, where it reached a peak of 16, spending two consecutive weeks on chart. In Canada, "OMG" received a platinum certification for 80,000 copies sold in the country; as of January 2019, its video audio has reached 100 million views on YouTube. In December 2016, singer Camila Cabello departed from the group Fifth Harmony to focus on her solo career, she started the recording sessions for her solo debut album in early 2017. She said that the album would be classified in a personal level where she could explore her own experiences, named it The Hurting; the Healing. The Loving, she wanted the album to tell "the story of journey from darkness into light, from a time when she was lost to a time when she found herself again". To achieve her desired sound, she collaborated with some notable producers, including the Norwegian production duo Stargate–composed by Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen.
During sessions with Stargate, Cabello met the British singer Charli XCX who helped her to brainstorm ideas for the lyrics. Together, they created some "emotional" and "deep" records like "Scar Tissues" to match the "Hurting" concept planned for the album, although while talking to XCX, Cabello had the idea to write something, just "fun" and "not take too seriously". "OMG" was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles and mixed by Serban Ghenea at Mixstar Studios, Virginia Beach. It features a guest appearance by rapper Quavo–better known as one of the members of the rap trio Migos– credited as one of the track's writers. Prior to its release, the singer debuted the song during her private performance at Chicago's B96 Pepsi Summer Bash on June 24, 2017, she worked as an opening act for Bruno Mars on his 24K Magic World Tour from July 20 to August 22, 2017. During the shows, she performed “OMG” and other then-unreleased tracks such as "Havana", "Inside Out" and "Never Be the Same".
On July 30, she announced a "Summer Double Feature" release in a picture posted on her Twitter account, where she revealed a release date for "OMG" and "Havana," both released as promotional singles on August 3, 2017. The song was intended to be on her debut album, it happened due to the unexpected success of "Havana", which made Cabello sign with Frank Dukes' management company called Electric Feel, with Dukes executively producing the record. As a result, the album's original concept of hurting and loving was substituted in favor of the newly recorded material. "OMG" is a hip hop-inspired song. Its chorus was described as "appealing" by Chris DeVille from Stereogum, in which Cabello sings, “Oh my God! You look good today", with Quavo responding on the background. In the verses, Cabello mentions being from Miami and "causing trouble in L. A", while appreciating the physicality of her love interest. Quavo raps about his intentions with a woman he is in love with, while making references to the Migos' 2016 single "Bad and Boujee".
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, she explained: " I just wanted to create a song of my own, that wasn't that deep, just fun and confident. Like role reversal, when we were writing it we wrote it as this girl squad anthem about just pulling up to the boys and just having that swagger." Nick Maslow of Entertainment Weekly for example, described the song as an "attitude-filled club-banger". Praising Charli XCX's songwriting, Ross McNeilage of MTV UK felt that her "bold energy" can be heard in the performer's verses, considered the track a "cocky trap-pop banger for the clubs". Much's Allison Browsher thought the "sexy tune" is "perfect for anyone looking for a sultry pump up track". Writing for XXL, Peter Berry commented that Cabello's verse contains "quick-fire flexes and a cadence" not unlike that of Quavo, sounding like as if they could have been written by Quavo himself. Other critics responded moderately to "OMG". Mike Wass from Idolator, who regarded it as a "basic banger" in comparison to "Havana", while Arielle Tschinker from the same publication classified it as a "decent slow jam", although she perceived a lack of "sparkle and attitude" that Cabello had with Fifth Harmony.
"OMG" debuted at number 81 on Billboard Hot 100 on the chart issued for August 27, 2017 along with "Havana" which entered at number 99. It gave Cab
