Lowe Nunataks

The Lowe Nunataks are a cluster of low peaks or nunataks 1.5 nautical miles southeast of Mount Borgeson in the Walker Mountains of Thurston Island, Antarctica. They were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Photographer's Mate W. L. Lowe, an aircrewman in the Eastern Group of U. S. 2009 Iranian university dormitory raids

The 2009 Iranian university dormitory raids took place on 14 June 2009 at various university dormitories throughout Iran. The raids were carried out by the state-sponsored Basij militiamen against students suspected of having participated in the ongoing election protests; the dormitories of the University of Tehran, the largest general university in the Islamic Republic of Iran, were raided by Basij militiamen. At least 3 men and two women, were reported to have been wounded by the Basij. Unrest between students and Basij took place at Amir Kabir University in Tehran, University of Sistan and Baluchestan, Razi University in Kermanshah, University of Mazandaran. 119 members of the University of Tehran faculty resigned en-masse on 15 June 2009 in protest of the raid. Ali Larijani, speaker of the Iranian Majlis, condemned the raid and blamed the Interior Ministry for the raids; the Middle East Studies Association of North America wrote a letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemning Iranian officials for the university raids and arrest of students.

JP MacCallum

JP MacCallum is a Canadian ice hockey coach. He is serving as head coach of the Herlev Eagles in the Metal Ligaen, Denmark’s top league. MacCallum played varsity ice hockey at Union College in Schenectady, New York, USA, at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Studying biology and English, he developed an expertise in training and in strength training for hockey players, he became a full-time trainer with his own performance training business in 2000 and works with athletes in off-season, including Alex Grant, Brad Marchand and Andrew Bodnarchuk. In 2004, he was named assistant coach at Saint Mary’s and stayed on the job until 2007. MacCallum took up an offer from Dunaújváros AC, a professional club from Hungary, to become their assistant coach. After serving in that position during the 2008-09 season, he was promoted to head coach in 2009 and remained in that job until 2011. While in Hungary, he worked for the Hungarian ice hockey federation, serving as head coach of the country’s under-20 national team and as assistant coach of the men’s national team, which included an appearances at the 2012 World Hockey Championships in Slovenia.

In 2012, MacCallum was signed by the Tohoku Free Blades of Japan. He served as an assistant coach for two years and took over head coaching duties in 2014. In his single season at the helm, he guided the Free Blades to the Asia League Championship title. In March 2016, he was named head coach of the Herlev Eagles of Denmark’s top-flight Metal Ligaen. Canopus is the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina, is located near the western edge of the constellation around 310 light-years from the Sun. Its proper name is considered to originate from the mythological Canopus, a navigator for Menelaus, king of Sparta. Canopus has the Bayer designation α Carinae, Latinised to Alpha Carinae and abbreviated Alpha Car or α Car, it is the second-brightest star in the night sky, after Sirius. Canopus' visual apparent magnitude is −0.74, it has an absolute magnitude of −5.71. Canopus is an aging bright giant of spectral type A9 or F0, so it is white when seen with the naked eye. Canopus is undergoing core helium burning and is in the so-called blue loop phase of its evolution, having passed through the red-giant branch after exhausting the hydrogen in its core. Canopus has expanded to 71 times the Sun's radius, it is radiating over 10,000 times the luminosity of the Sun from its enlarged photosphere at an effective temperature of around 7,000 K. Canopus is an X-ray source, being emitted from its corona.

The prominent appearance of Canopus means it has been the subject of mythological lore among many ancient peoples. The acronychal rising marked the date of the Ptolemaia festival in Egypt. In Hinduism, it was named Agastya after the revered Vedic sage. For Chinese astronomers, it was known as the Old Man of the South Pole. In the Southern Hemisphere and Sirius are both visible high in the sky and reach a meridian just 21 minutes apart. Brighter than first magnitude, Canopus can be seen by naked eye in the early twilight. Most visible in summer in the Southern Hemisphere, Canopus culminates at midnight on December 27, at 9 PM on February 11, it is a circumpolar star when seen from points with latitude south of 37°18' S. Since Canopus is so far south in the sky, it never rises in mid- to far-northern latitudes; this is just south of Athens, Richmond and San Francisco, close to Seville and Agrigento. It is exactly the latitude of Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton, from which it is visible because of the effects of elevation and atmospheric refraction, which add another degree to its apparent altitude.

Under ideal conditions, it can be spotted as far north as latitude 37°31' from the Pacific coast. Another northernmost record of visibility came from Mount Nemrut in Turkey, latitude 37°59', it is more visible in places such as the Gulf Coast and Florida, the island of Crete where the best season for viewing it around 9 p.m. is during late January and early February. Canopus has a B–V color index of +0.15 where 0 is a blue-white, indicating it is white, although it has been described as yellow-white. Canopus' spectral type has been given as F0 and more A9, it is less yellow than Procyon, with indices measured as 0.22 and 0.42, respectively. It may be that some observers have perceived Canopus as yellow-tinged because it is low in the sky and hence subject to atmospheric effects. Patrick Moore said that it white to him. Before the launch of the Hipparcos satellite telescope, distance estimates for Canopus varied from 96 light-years to 1200 light-years. Had the latter distance been correct, Canopus would have been one of the most luminous stars in the Milky Way galaxy.

Hipparcos established Canopus as being 310 light-years from the Solar System. Canopus has an MK spectral type of A9 II, although it has been classified as F0Ib on account of its high luminosity, or F0II, its position in the H–R diagram indicates that it is a massive giant star in the core-helium burning phase. This is an intermediate mass star that has left the red-giant branch and has entered a blue loop with a increased effective temperature, measured to be 6,998 K. Very-long-baseline interferometry has been used to calculate its angular diameter at 6.9 mas. Combined with distance calculated by Hipparcos, this gives it a radius of 71 times that of the Sun. If it were at the centre of the Solar System, it would extend 90% of the way to the orbit of Mercury, it is over ten thousand times more luminous than the Sun. Canopus is a source of X-rays, which are produced by its corona, magnetically heated to several million Kelvin; the temperature has been stimulated by fast rotation combined with strong convection percolating through the star's outer layers.

No star closer than Canopus is more luminous than it, it has been the brightest star in Earth's night sky during three epochs over the past four million years. Other stars appear brighter only during temporary periods, during which they are passing the Solar System much closer than Canopus. About 90,000 years ago, Sirius moved close enough that it became brighter than Canopus, that will remain so for another 210,000 years, but in 480,000 years, as Sirius moves further away and appears fainter, Canopus will once again be the brightest, will remain so for a period of about 510,000 years. Canopus was proposed to be a member of the Scorpius–Centaurus Association, however it is not located near the subgroups of that association, has not been included as a Sco-Cen member in kinematic studies that used Hipparcos astrometric data. Kaoru Toyoda

Kaoru Toyoda is a Japanese adult video director and the founder of two AV studios. With a career dating back to 1985, he is one of the pioneers of the Japanese adult video industry. Toyoda was born on November 10, 1952, he made his adult video directorial debut with the Kuki company in May 1985 with the video Bunny Girl starring Midori Takano. By the mid-1980s he was working for Samm, where he is credited along with others for changing the direction of that company from its early emphasis on S&M videos. One of the videos he directed for h.m.p. was the 1990 Kozenwaisetsu 7 starring early AV Idol Yumika Hayashi. He directed videos for the Alice Japan studio in the 1990s. Frustrated by the close censorship of Japanese adult videos under the Nihon Ethics of Video Association known as "Viderin", the voluntary ethics group which regulated most of the AV companies in the 1980s and 1990s, Toyoda started up his own company using the label "King of Realism" in 1996; the company, Wild Side, located in Tokyo's Shibuya ward, was founded in April 1996 and "King of Realism" began issuing videos in August 1996.

In the years following other labels were created including "Macbeth" in September 1997, "Ran" in July 1998, "Jun" and "GOLD" in April 2000, "Cobra" in November 2000, "D's" in January 2001 and "SILVIA" in October 2002. The company issued about a dozen new videos per month including installments in such popular series as "Eromesu", "Royal Anal Kingdom" and the scatology series "Exodus Gold"; the major Japanese AV retailer DMM listed over 600 DVD titles and more than 500 VHS titles for Wild Side in mid-2010. Throughout its history, Wild Side and the "King of Realism" label were associated with videos portraying scatology, anal sex, in its years pregnant sex. On November 12, 2004, Wild Side released the video Beautiful Nine Month Pregnant Woman Sex - Childbirth, directed by Toyoda and starring Natsuki Hatayama; the first part of the video shows the pregnant actress having sex with various actors but the second part depicts a complete sequence of her giving birth at home. Other actresses who appeared in Toyoda-directed videos for Wild Side include Rinako Hirasawa, Chihiro Hara and Minami Aoyama.

After 20 years as an AV director, 10 years after starting the "King of Realism" label, a false colon cancer scare, Toyoda closed Wild Side and started a new adult video company, Opera, in October 2005. In September 2011, the DVD distributor DMM listed 327 titles for Opera on its website. Toyoda is the chief director at Opera and had directed some 150 videos for the studio by that same date.
