Bernard Barney Rubble is a cartoon character who appears in the television animated series The Flintstones. He is the diminutive, blond-haired caveman husband of Betty Rubble and his best friends are his next door neighbors and Wilma Flintstone. Barneys personality was based on that of Ed Norton on the 1950s television series The Honeymooners, usually after Fred had hatched one of his plans, Barney showed his agreement by laughing and saying, uh hee hee hee. OK, Fred. or hee hee hee. whatever you say, in early episodes, Barney had a joisey accent, but when Barneys accent was getting too annoying, it was changed to a deeper, more chuckle-like voice. In On the Rocks and Stone-Age Smackdown, his Jersey accent returns, Barneys interests included bowling, playing pool, tinkering around in Freds garage, and playing golf. He, like Fred, was a member of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes lodge and its predecessor in earlier episodes and he is a talented pianist and drummer. In the first episode of the series, he was an inventor of a human-powered helicopter.
Though clearly depicted as being in shape than Fred, he is not shown to be quite as enthusiastic a sportsman as Fred is. This distinction can be attributed to Freds fondness for food, though Barney is shown to be almost as capable of excessive appetite on a number of occasions. While the mid-1980s spinoff series The Flintstone Kids depicts Barney as a child and it is suggested in the original series that Barney grew up at 142 Boulder Avenue in Granitetown. The original series suggested in one episode that Barney was the nephew of Freds boss, Mr. Slate, though subsequent episodes and spinoffs do not seem to support this claim. As young adults and Fred worked as bellhops at a resort, where they first met Wilma and Betty, an early episode of the original series does have a brief scene of Barney working at the Granite Building. It could be possible that both Fred and Barney work at the quarry, but may work in different sections of it, in one episode, Barneys boss tells him to put down his broom, which implies some sort of janitorial work is involved.
During the fourth season of the series and Barney found an abandoned infant on their doorstep. A court battle ensued between the couple and a man who had wanted to adopt Bamm-Bamm. Barney and Betty were successful in their efforts to adopt Bamm-Bamm because the man gave up upon learning his wife became pregnant. For a number of episodes after Bamm-Bamms debut, no sign of him is seen on the show, in the fifth season, the family buys a pet hopparoo named Hoppy. When Bamm-Bamm grew into a teenager, Barney joined the Bedrock police force with Fred for a period of time as part-time officers, both characters were paired with the Shmoo from Lil Abner

Through his young adult years, Barbera lived, attended college, and began his career in New York City. After working odd jobs and as a banker, Barbera joined Van Beuren Studios in 1932, in 1937, he moved to California and while working at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Barbera met William Hanna. The two men began a collaboration that was at first best known for producing Tom and Jerry, in 1967, Hanna-Barbera was sold to Taft Broadcasting for $12 million, but Hanna and Barbera remained heads of the company until 1991. At that time, the studio was sold to Turner Broadcasting System and Barbera won seven Academy Awards and eight Emmy Awards. Their cartoon shows have become icons, and their cartoon characters have appeared in other media such as films, books. Hanna-Barberas shows had an audience of over 300 million people in the 1960s and have been translated into more than 20 languages. His family moved to Flatbush, New York when he was four months old and he had two younger brothers and Ted, both of whom served in World War II.
As a member of the United States Army, Larry participated in the invasion of Sicily, Ted was a fighter pilot with the United States Army Air Forces and served in the Aleutian Islands Campaign. Barberas father, was the owner of three barbershops who squandered the family fortunes on gambling. By the time Barbera was 15, his father had abandoned the family, Barbera displayed a talent for drawing as early as the first grade. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn in 1928, while in high school, Barbera won several boxing titles. He was briefly managed by World Lightweight Boxing Champion Al Singers manager, in 1935, Barbera married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Earl. In school, they had known as Romeo and Juliet. Barbera and his wife briefly separated when he went to California and they reunited but were on the verge of another separation when they discovered that Dorothy was pregnant with their first child. They had 4 children, two sons and two daughters, the marriage officially ended in 1963.
Shortly after his divorce, Barbera met his wife, Sheila Holden, at Musso & Franks restaurant. Unlike Dorothy, who had preferred to stay at home with the children, during high school, Barbera worked as a tailors delivery boy. During the Great Depression, he tried unsuccessfully to become a cartoonist for a magazine called The NY Hits Magazine and he supported himself with a job at a bank, and continued to pursue publication for his cartoons
Wilma Flintstone is a fictional character in the television animated series The Flintstones. Wilma is the wife of caveman Fred Flintstone, daughter of Pearl Slaghoople. Her best friends are her next door neighbors and Barney Rubble, Wilmas personality is based on that of Alice Kramden, wife of Ralph Kramden on the 1950s television series The Honeymooners. Much like Alice, Wilma plays the strong-willed, level-headed person in her marriage, Wilma is often the one to bail out Fred when one of his schemes lands him in trouble. Still, the depictions that Wilma had younger sisters and an older brother. Wilma mentions having a sister in the sixth season of the original series. As a young adult, Wilma worked with Betty as cigarette girls/waitresses at a resort, they first met and fell in love with their future husbands and Barney, who were working there as bellhops. Wilma and Fred eventually married, and Wilma became a homemaker, keeping house with such prehistoric aids as a baby elephant vacuum cleaner, Wilma is a good cook, one of her specialties is gravelberry pie, the recipe for which she eventually sold to the Safestone supermarket chain.
In the original series season, Wilma becomes pregnant and gives birth to the couples only child. When Pebbles is a teenager, Wilma gains employment as a reporter for one of Bedrocks newspapers, while employed there, Wilma shares various adventures with prehistoric superhero Captain Caveman, who, in a secret identity, works for the newspaper. Wilmas maiden name is the subject of a continuity error, several early episodes in the original series clearly stated Wilmas maiden name was Pebble. However and spin-offs firmly state her name is indeed Slaghoople, based upon the name of Wilmas mother in the original series. Flintstones writer Earl Kress explained the discrepancy as such and this is presumably the reason why Fred and Barney could not muster up the courage to simply tell their wives outright that the opera coincided with the bowling championship. In subsequent episodes, she is shown to get angry but never harms Fred seriously, for example, in the twenty third episode of season 2, Wilma can be seen biting Freds finger when he points at her.
While generally a foil to Freds poor behavior, Wilma is not immune to it herself and she, usually along with Betty Rubble, will occasionally rack up large bills on a charge account or spend the familys money with reckless abandon. Wilma and Betty will occasionally plot acts of revenge on their husbands for their oafishness and she and Fred argue often because of Freds behavior, and because Fred sometimes flirts with other women. In the 2001 TV movie The Flintstones, On the Rocks, the marriage is not working out and they consider a divorce, jean Vander Pyl was the original voice artist of Wilma until her death in 1999. Since then, Tress MacNeille has taken over as Wilmas voice even when she voiced her in Harvey Birdman, in The Flintstone Kids, Wilma was voiced by Julie McWhirter Dees and Elizabeth Lyn Frasier at different points
The kangaroo is a marsupial from the family Macropodidae. The Australian government estimates that 34.3 million kangaroos lived within the commercial harvest areas of Australia in 2011, as with the terms wallaroo and wallaby, kangaroo refers to a polyphyletic grouping of species. All three refer to members of the taxonomic family and are distinguished according to size. The largest species in the family are called kangaroos and the smallest are generally called wallabies, the term wallaroos refers to species of an intermediate size. There is the tree-kangaroo, another genus of macropod, which inhabits the rainforests of New Guinea, far northeastern Queensland. Kangaroos have large, powerful legs, large feet adapted for leaping, a long muscular tail for balance. Like most marsupials, female kangaroos have a pouch called a marsupium in which joeys complete postnatal development, the large kangaroos have adapted much better than the smaller macropods to land clearing for pastoral agriculture and habitat changes brought to the Australian landscape by humans.
Many of the species are rare and endangered, while kangaroos are relatively plentiful. The kangaroo is important to both Australian culture and the image, and consequently there are numerous popular culture references. Wild kangaroos are shot for meat, leather hides, and to grazing land. Although controversial, kangaroo meat has perceived health benefits for human consumption compared with traditional meats due to the low level of fat on kangaroos, the word kangaroo derives from the Guugu Yimithirr word gangurru, referring to grey kangaroos. Cook first referred to kangaroos in his entry of 4 August. Guugu Yimithirr is the language of the people of the area, a common myth about the kangaroos English name is that kangaroo was a Guugu Yimithirr phrase for I dont understand you. According to this legend and Banks were exploring the area when they happened upon the animal and they asked a nearby local what the creatures were called. The local responded Kangaroo, meaning I dont understand you, which Cook took to be the name of the creature and this myth was debunked in the 1970s by linguist John B.
Haviland in his research with the Guugu Yimithirr people, Kangaroos are often colloquially referred to as roos. Male kangaroos are called bucks, jacks, or old men, females are does, flyers, or jills, the collective noun for kangaroos is a mob, troop, or court. There are four species that are referred to as kangaroos
