Time in Indonesia

The Indonesian archipelago geographically stretches across four time zones from UTC+06:00 in Aceh to UTC+09:00 in Western New Guinea. However, the Indonesian government recognizes only three time zones in its territory: Indonesia Western Standard Time —seven hours in advance of Greenwich Mean Time Indonesia Central Standard Time — eight hours ahead of GMT; the border between central and eastern time zones runs north from the eastern tip of Timor to the eastern tip of Sulawesi. Daylight saving time is not observed anywhere in Indonesia, resulting in all regions using their respective time zone all year long. In Indonesia, the keeping of standard time is divided into three time zones: The time zones above have been observed since 1 January 1988. Prior to that date and Central Kalimantan used WITA, while Bali used WIB from 29 November 1963 During the colonial era until early independence, the time in Indonesia was regulated as follows: Northern Sumatra Time, was observed in Aceh and Medan. Central and Southern Sumatra Time, was observed in Bengkulu and Lampung.

Java and Borneo Time, was observed in Java, Bali and Kalimantan. Celebes Time, was observed in Lesser Sunda Islands. Moluccan Time, was observed in Ternate, Namlea and Banda. West Irian Time was observed in West Irian, it observed during 1 November 1932 to 31 August 1944. Dutch New Guinea Time, was observed in West Irian during named Dutch New Guinea because Netherlands still hold West Irian, it observed from 1 September 1944 to 31 December 1963. Daylight saving time was observed in Jakarta from 1 May 1948 to 1 May 1950, with UTC offset during daylight saving time at UTC+08:00. Daylight saving time was observed from 1 November 1932 to 23 March 1942, from 23 September 1945 to 1 January 1964, except in West Irian, which observed it until 1944. Jakarta, observed daylight saving time only from 1 May 1948 to 1 May 1950. From 23 March 1942 to 23 September 1945, all regions in Indonesia except West Irian used Japan Standard Time for the sake of the effectiveness of Japanese military operations in Indonesia This meant that western parts of Indonesia observed double daylight saving time and central parts of Indonesia were on daylight saving time during the period of Japanese occupation 1942–1945.

Ascender (typography)

In typography and handwriting, an ascender is the portion of a minuscule letter in a Latin-derived alphabet that extends above the mean line of a font. That is, the part of a lower-case letter, taller than the font's x-height. Ascenders, together with descenders, increase the recognizability of words. For this reason, many situations that require high legibility such as road signs avoid using capital letters, the all-caps style. Studies made at the start of the construction of the British motorway network concluded that words with mixed-case letters were much easier to read than "all-caps" and a special font was designed for motorway signs; these became universal across the UK. See Road signs in the United Kingdom. In many fonts intended for body text, such as Bembo and Garamond, ascenders rise above the cap height of the capital letters

Theileria is a genus of parasites that belongs to the phylum Apicomplexa, is related to Plasmodium. Two Theileria species, T. annulata and T. parva, are important cattle parasites. T. annulata causes tropical theileriosis and T. parva causes East Coast fever. Theileria species are transmitted by ticks; the genomes of T. orientalis Shintoku, Theileria equi WA, Theileria annulata Ankara and Theileria parva Muguga have been sequenced and published. Theileria equi is a known cause of equine piroplasmosis. Vaccines against Theileria are in development. In May 2010, a vaccine, reported to protect cattle against East Coast fever had been approved and registered by the governments of Kenya and Tanzania. Species in this genus undergo exoerythrocytic merogony in the lymphocytes, histiocytes and other cells of the internal organs; this is followed by invasion of the erythrocytes by the merozoites, which may not reproduce. When merogony does occur, no more than four daughter cells are produced; the frequent occurrence of elongated bacillary or "bayonet" forms within the erythrocyte is considered as characteristic of this genus.

The organism is transmitted by various tick species, including Rhipicephalus and Haemaphysalis. The organism reproduces in the tick. Both T. annulata and T. parva induce transformation of infected cells of lymphocyte or macrophage/monocyte lineages. T. orientalis does not induce uncontrolled proliferation of infected leukocytes and instead multiplies predominantly within infected erythrocytes. The genomes of T. orientalis Shintoku, Theileria equi WA, Theileria annulata Ankara and Theileria parva Muguga have been sequenced. Genomic data can be accessed PiroplasmaDB, part of the Eukaryotic Pathogen Bioinformatic Resource; the genus is thought to have first appeared in ruminants during the Miocene. It is named for daughter of Arnold Theiler. Theileria spp. can be transmitted to cattle through tick bites, including the brown ear tick, a Rhipicephalus sp. T. parva is the cause of bovine theileriosis and East Coast fever. T. annulata is a cause of bovine theileriosis. T. equi causes equine piroplasmosis.
