General Sanctions notification - Cryptocurrencies[edit]

Commons-emblem-notice.svg Please read this notification carefully, it contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Possible socks?[edit]

Hi Power~enwiki. Because you commented at Talk:Western State Colorado University, I figured I would ask you. What's your thoughts on Rjtoney, Peternoon, TaylorHall1910 all being socks of one another with Agray47 being the master (first account created, asked for name change at Requests for permission)? I'm suspecting the IPs as well, who along with the accounts listed above have only edited WSCU... Thoughts? Corky 19:40, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

I doubt they're all the same person; there's a fairly good chance they're all affiliated with the university's publicity department in some way though. power~enwiki (π, ν) 21:46, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
That's a good point. Though it is still a concern (in my opinion). Thanks for the quick reply! Corky 22:29, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Merge proposal: Lock and key[edit]

I have proposed a merge of Lock (security device) and Key (lock). You can discuss this merge at Talk:Lock (security device)#Merge_with_Key_(lock). power~enwiki (π, ν) 03:29, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

You quipped, "I don't feel a need to participate in entry-by-entry votes at this time." If you don't mind me asking, what's up? pbp 01:02, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

If nobody wants to bother to vote on some of the removals I've proposed of some ridiculous inclusions of biographies, there's not enough interest to justify voting. As a result, I'm planning to ignore the Biography section of that list for the foreseeable future. If there's a burst of interest in a few months I'll take another look. power~enwiki (π, ν) 01:04, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Industry, Business, Company, Investment, oh my![edit]

All of these articles have glaring issues; they also all average over 1000 page-views per day. power~enwiki (π, ν) 03:58, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Paul Allen[edit]

Gnome globe current event.svgOn 16 October 2018, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Paul Allen, which you nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. DannyS712 (talk) 03:34, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi you recently removed the text of the poem The Horse (poem). As the owners of the copyright explicitly allow it to be reproduced for free I thought that it would be ok to add it as is a short poem. Could you point me to the policy or guidelines that explains what is needed to be able to reproduce it as I'm a bit a newbie in terms of copyright. Dom from Paris (talk) 05:05, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

I'm not an expert either. From Wikipedia:Copyrights: In other words, you may only import text that is (a) single-licensed under terms compatible with the CC BY-SA license or (b) dual-licensed with the GFDL and another license with terms compatible with the CC BY-SA license. I am not sure the license terms on [12] are compatible. Separately, per WP:NOTMIRROR, it's probably better for the full text of the poem to be on Wikisource than Wikipedia. power~enwiki (π, ν) 15:21, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip about using Twinkle. It’s changed my whole life! Mccapra (talk) 05:44, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018[edit]

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Power~enwiki, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

RfC on which you !voted, has been amended[edit]

In response to objections, I struck the two year moratorium thing at Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(people)#RfC:_Amendment_for_BIO_to_address_systemic_bias_in_the_base_of_sources. I'm notifying everybody who !voted. Jytdog (talk) 14:06, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

Fuerdai vandal[edit]

Hey, so I'm trying to find the username of the Fuerdai vandal for a {sockpuppet} template for the Fuerdai vandal sock you got blocked recently - can you point me in the right direction? Kudos, Kirbanzo (talk) 20:55, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/BMX On WheeIs is probably the best page. One of several "on wheels" vandals; WP:RBI is basically all there is to do here. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:56, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks. RBI is what I do with most socks anyway. Kirbanzo (talk) 20:58, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Opinion on article[edit]

I was just wondering if you can take a quick look at the talk page at The Washington Times about ongoing lead issues. There has been a lot of news spamming and unencyclopedic content pushed lately, and it would be nice to have someone more level headed look at it.

Marquis de Faux (talk) 00:39, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not going to comment on that article; you may want to try the neutral POV noticeboard to get more opinions. power~enwiki (π, ν) 00:51, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
@Drmies: may be interested in the canvassing; I'm not going to comment on the talk page either. power~enwiki (π, ν) 00:54, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks power~enwiki--did I read this correctly? This marquis thinks YOU are more level-headed than ME? Das cray. Anyway, feel free to weigh in; good opinions there are good. Marquis de Faux, I think you aren't canvassing yet in terms of who you are writing to, but your language, this stuff about news spamming and "more level headed" is decidedly non-neutral, besides kind of insulting. Drmies (talk) 00:59, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi @Drmies:, I did not mean to refer to you personally in regards to the "level-headed" comment, rather one other specific editor that I shall not name. I retract and apologize for that statement. Thank you power~enwiki for sending me the noticeboard, I will keep that in mind for next time. I sent it to a few editors who are engaged in news-publication type articles, I did not mean it to be canvassing, but I will certainly avoid this in the future. Thanks, and I apologize for my Wikipedia ineptitude. Marquis de Faux (talk) 17:02, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
OK then. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 18:30, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
