WikiProject Malaysia February 2017 Newsletter[edit]

Request for review[edit]

I'm wondering if you are interesting in reviewing the article on Kingdom of Singapura as you have contributed to articles on Singapore before, also the issue is related to the founding of Malacca Sultanate, therefore indirectly connected to Malaysian History. I'm currently inviting reviews for the article - Wikipedia:Peer review/Kingdom of Singapura/archive1. The reason is mainly because I believe it needs to be overhauled, but it may not be easy because of the extensive amount that's written already, therefore I would like suggestions (or even edits) that can improve it. The main problem is the uncertainty in the history and what appears to be skewing of the narrative (some points raised in Talk:Kingdom of Singapura). Historians believe that many of the kings may be mythical, but the article is written in a way that is skewed towards the view that they are real. Suggestions or edits would be welcome. WP:WIKIHOUNDING[edit]

Thanks for WP:WIKIHOUNDING and your care, but if you are not aware of tourism topics, please stop your willful reverts. Wiki has talk page and in case you want to help me, you can go there and discuss. --g. balaxaZe 15:55, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

As per usual, I refer you to WP:BRD and WP:BURDEN. CMD (talk) 16:14, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Do you know what is this ►[1]? This is the main annual report for those who work with tourism. If one wants to understand where is that country by tourism they always use and search in this report and it is very important to give people information where is Georgia by UN WTO classification and how strong or weak it is in its sub-region. Is is so hard to understand? --g. balaxaZe 17:07, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Wikiepdia articles are not only for those who have no idea about tourism organizations or indusdtry and are looking only for beautiful images or descriptions. --g. balaxaZe 17:10, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Also, in WP:BRD cleary said Consider reverting only when necessary. BRD does not encourage reverting, but recognizes that reverts will happen. Only thing that you like to do is reverting other user contribution even when it is not necessary! --g. balaxaZe 17:13, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
It's a lot of assertions, but I do indeed fail to see the importance of specifying rankings within the way the UNWTO classifies its work. National bodies don't coordinate activities or advertise as by subregion or anything like that. Regarding BRD, your response does seem to miss the point. It also appears to beg the question of whether a reversion is necessary, a question of which I would be interested in your answer. I will also again ask you to desist in yet another instance of using admins as a threat, it's a tiring pattern. CMD (talk) 01:49, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
I really do not like to talk about other people and that is why I rarely use admins help. I know that you are checking my edits (even archiving at the same time :)) and etc. but there should be another solution than confrontation. Maybe you do no know but I am studying tourism in my university and we use that report almost in every presentation or statistics. I see that majority of tourism articles in Wikipedia has low quality and we do not have the best example of tourism article, but since UN WTO is really the most (maybe only) important organization in tourism, it works with national governments it shares what standards they must have and in general does a lot of staff, their classification is important from the tourism studies view. It is like a biological classification of creatures. You may think that I want to use it just because it says Georgia is in Europe but I don't care about that, I am not crazy about Georgias European or not European status because if you want my opinion we are only Caucasians. I really want to find a solution with you, please try to convince yourself that what I am saying has nothing with promotion but only with an academic view.--g. balaxaZe 10:57, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
p.s. I opened admins noticeboard and almost started writing about the case, but in the end, I decided to try luck and find a solution without them, I hope for mutual understanding. Don't think that my words are only words without acting.--g. balaxaZe 11:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
If you don't want to use admins, don't throw around admins as threats. This is not the first time you've done it. For the record, I am not checking your edits, and if you don't want confrontation, I would recommend being less confrontational. Following the guidelines I've repeatedly pointed you towards would help towards this. If you don't want your words to be disassociated with your actions, than line them up. For example, if you aren't crazy about European "status", don't remove categories saying otherwise.
As for the content, most of our tourism articles are low quality. This does not mean a map which tells the reader nothing about Tourism in Georgia helps the article, and our articles are not intended as academic guides or as textbooks. Grouping countries is not remotely equatable to cladistics, but even if it was, that would not mean every species article would need to discuss its place within its family. (Those which have a special reason to be supported by regular secondary sources doing so would of course have an argument for.) CMD (talk) 13:31, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Ok, your attitude is clear, as I said above now I'll use another option. At least it is clear that I tried to convince you and find solution.--g. balaxaZe 14:43, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
This is another example of you quickly abandoning a talkpage discussion instead of discussing (albeit not on an article talkpage). CMD (talk) 01:19, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Thank you NeilN, I have responded there. CMD (talk) 08:56, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
@NeilN, diffs were provided, do they demonstrate a problem? CMD (talk) 17:13, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
I looked at the diffs and they indicate a bit of a battleground attitude and inappropriate accusations of wikihounding. No one has proposed sanctions so it's unlikely it will get that far. If no one else chimes in soon I will close with appropriate warnings/advice to Giorgi Balakhadze. --NeilN talk to me 17:21, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Whatever you feel is appropriate to stop the disruption is fine with me. Best, CMD (talk) 09:20, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Muppet show[edit]

Just noticed some more evasion by Satt 2. Same geo-location, same edits, same edit summaries, same concerns. Clear cut. Should I make another section at AN? - LouisAragon (talk) 17:21, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

LouisAragon, AN doesn't deal with single sockpuppets. Notify the previous blocking admin, or just put up a new WP:SPI. It seems Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Satt 2/Archive has room to grow. CMD (talk) 02:08, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
Done. Added a LTA-page to it as well. - LouisAragon (talk) 05:14, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

many questions[edit]

1.When you first welcomed me to WP, was it part of a program for seasoned WPians to mentor tyro editors? 2. Would you seriously consider a less awkward method of text comm's, such as setting up a personal WP specific email address and using it to text/chat via something akin to goog.chat/hangouts? I have a series of questions concerning WPedit., both, in form and content also specific WP hierarchical niceties and etiquette. 3. If your answer to my 2nd question is a robust "No", and you are somewhat appalled at my suggestion, you must endure a long series of posts on my part (absolutely, no threat intended) with concerns re: the mundane WP, to the highly charged (in my opinion) WP political issues both in and out of WP. My email address is bjhodge8@ gmail.com if your response is in the affirmative. Although I am concerned with security, the wall between email and personal info (PI) is firm enough for the average idiot like me. If the Hack is determined, securing your email@ and PI are child's play, despite elaborate and costly security. Bjhodge8 (talk) 21:52, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Hey Bjhodge8, sorry I've been away so long.
1) I welcomed you on an individual basis, although there are programmes out there for mentoring.
2) There is a Wikipedia:IRC, but I don't use it. I keep most relevant information on wikipedia talkpages.
3) I am happy to answer posts here, no problem, if you have not had them answered in the intervening months. I'm sure email is secure, but I feel it more in the Wikipedia spirit to hang out on these public pages whenever useful.
Best, CMD (talk) 00:34, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
OK, Thanks CMD.Bjhodge8 (talk) 23:15, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

Jordanian local elections[edit]

Hi. The local elections are scheduled for 15 August. Along with the municipality elections, is a "decentralization election". The latter election is under a new decentralization law that establishes governorate councils with limited legislative powers, aimed primarily at organizing governorate development plans. Does this deserve a separate article from Jordanian local election, 2017? If so what named should it have? Barely any coverage of this in English media, yet. But I have read some info in Arabic media.. Also if you seem interested in developing this/these article/articles soon? I will start working on them in a month, any comments are appreciated. Makeandtoss (talk) 12:29, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi Makeandtoss. Sorry I've been away so long. Hope your work is going well. I haven't read much at all about these elections. As you have, I would recommend seeing what the external sources say. If the elections are not usually discussed separately, then they could be put on the same article. If they seem to be discussed entirely apart, different articles makes more sense. In the end, it's easy enough to split/merge them at later points if that makes sense once they're all over. I'd personally keep them together initially and split if that becomes the obvious solution at that time, but it's not important. I'm definitely happy to look over the articles, but I'm afraid I won't be any help with arabic sources! CMD (talk) 00:41, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
The elections concluded yesterday, here's the article Jordanian local elections, 2017. Can you patrol the article and help out if I missed anything, as there are several English articles. --Makeandtoss (talk) 04:46, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Women in Red/The World Contest[edit]

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:15, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
