WHPE 1070 AM and 95.5 FM was originally licensed to the High Point Enterprise[1] in 1948. The station was religious in the 1960s and then played Top 40. [2] In 1974, the FM station was purchased by the Bible Broadcasting Network as its second station.[1]

On October 28, 1986, just before a fund-raiser, the WHPE studios were damaged by an arson fire.
