Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

This report is for the record.

In April, following a report on WP:ANI, I blocked a number of accounts based on a checkuser investigation carried out on de.wikipedia and user behaviour on en.wikipedia. The activity on en.wikipedia has centred around the deleted pages Stuart Styron, which is now salted, and Draft:Stuart Styron. Similarly, activity on de.wikipedia has centred around the deleted page de:Stuart Styron.

The reports at WP:ANI are:

  1. Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive921#User:Easter126
  2. Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive921#User:Easter126_.28cont.29

These accounts were blocked. Some have also been globally blocked:

Styron111 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for cross-wiki abuse; this is the oldest account)
Helde43 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)
Patriska2601 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts;globally blocked for cross-wiki abuse)
Ulla1956 (blocked indefinitely for legal threats; blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for cross-wiki abuse)
Easter126 (blocked three months for personal attacks; blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for cross-wiki abuse)
Nature024 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)
Artgirl501 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)
Fasterthanyou123 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for cross-wiki abuse)
Flashfox7 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)

The proxy IP 177.22.143.0 is blocked for six months.

Recently, more sockpuppet accounts have appeared. These too have been blocked.

Itti123DIEPuffmutter (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)
INDEXIEREN5 (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts)
DORat123 (blocked indefinitely for personal attacks or harassment; globally blocked for long-term abuse)
Schmitty0Benutzer (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for long term abuse)
Benutzer Schmitty (blocked indefinitely for abusing multiple accounts; globally blocked for long term abuse)

No action is needed at the present time. However, as the socking is ongoing I have filed this report for future use. There is a backstory that I won't go into here. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 21:24, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Already blocked per the duck test. Stuart111Styron is globally blocked also.

The sockmaster Styron111 has been globally banned by the Wikimedia Foundation.[1] Malcolmxl5 (talk) 21:50, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

P.S. Actually, a checkuser may be useful to round up any other accounts given that multiple accounts have been created today. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 23:00, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Added Benutzer-Stuart-Styron. Already globally blocked. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 23:15, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

  • I've checked all the accounts listed here and all the non-stale accounts listed in the archives. The individual wouldn’t know how to use a legitimate ISP if their life depended on it. Unfortunately, their use of these servers is diverse, making range-blocking difficult. Despite the tiresome check, I’ve found no unblocked accounts. Closing.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:13, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

CU declined.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:19, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Is a global ban sufficiently exceptional? (my understanding is it's a TOU violation). Widefox; talk 17:21, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Not that I'm aware of. Nor do I see the need to run a check.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:39, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

This case is being reviewed by Sro23 as part of the clerk training process. Please allow them to process the entire case without interference, and pose any questions or concerns either on their Talk page or on this page if more appropriate.

  •  Awaiting administrative action Please block the remaining unblocked sock Registar5. As for the second group, no action should be taken. There's nothing to evaluate as none of the accounts have edited. Sro23 (talk) 02:22, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
  •  Clerk note: @Sro23: A couple have edited the German Wikipedia and/or commons. GABgab 03:13, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
  •  Administrator note: I have blocked Registar5 indefinitely; AthenonPeng66-6 is already locked globally, so a local block won't be necessary for that account. Still awaiting the WMF response and a behavioral evaluation of the second group, but it'd probably be best if we contacted stewards to investigate and lock the second group, instead of us, since the nexus of their behavior is outside the English Wikipedia. Mz7 (talk) 03:30, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks GeneralizationsAreBad and Mz7. I took a look at the second group's cross-wiki contributions and couldn't find anything connecting them to Styron111. I agree we should probably let stewards and/or the WMF handle the second group as they are inactive on the English wikipedia, so I'm closing the case. Sro23 (talk) 03:43, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
