Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Film

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Film. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary, it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Film|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Film.

This sockpuppet creation doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Searches of the usual Google types, EBSCO, HighBeam, JSTOR, Project MUSE, and Questia, by Bengali script name and transliteration, found trivial mentions (in list of films released that season, in lists of films in which such-and-such an actor appeared, in TV program listings, etc.) and the single sentence "Popular actor Shakib Khan lip-synced to the song 'Kintu Ontore Prem Dila' in the film Priya Amar Jaan."[1]. This degree of coverage doesn't meet WP:GNG, and no other evidence of notability has been found that would pass WP:NFILM. Worldbruce (talk) 16:03, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Unreleased (and as far as anyone can tell, never-to-be-released) film. Film was made in 2008, planned for released in 2009, pushed back to 2011, I think pushed back at least once more. It's now been almost 10 years after it was made and it's still not released, not even direct-to-video. Does not appear to meet WP:GNG or WP:NFILM; in particular WP:NFF (" films that have already begun shooting, but have not yet been publicly released (theatres or video), should generally not have their own articles unless the production itself is notable per the notability guidelines. Similarly, films produced in the past which were either not completed or not distributed should not have their own articles, unless their failure was notable per the guidelines.").

Several members of the cast are notable, as is the director Chris Stokes (director) and the (not) distributor Vivendi Entertainment; but their notability is not contagious, and does not appear to extend to this vaporware film. TJRC (talk) 21:28, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

This article on a short film has no sources. A BEFORE on Google News, Google Books, JSTOR, and newspapers.com fails to find anything. The film does not even have an entry on IMDB. Fails WP:GNG. The article claims to have won the jury prize at the Royal Nepalese Army film competition, however, no source can be found to verify this and - even if it could - I'm not sure this prize would be of sufficiency to qualify under WP:NFILM. Honestly, both of the articles are pretty poorly sourced, and are mostly a list of times stasis/suspended animation appears in fiction, but there are at least secondary sources for the latter. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 18:51, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Also, the same claim, that this TV production company was the in Saudi Arabia allowed to be owned and managed by women without a male business partner is a dubious claim to notability. It seems that there is probably a claim for all sorts of "firsts" for different types of companies. It is also difficult to find reliable support for this claim which is made in each of the articles for Danya Alhamrani and Dania Nassief. HighKing++ 22:26, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

This animation is not notable. It appeared on MTV's cartoon sushi but so did many other short animations. The named award it is claimed to have won is not notable as it is an internal college award. The article is written from a bias point of view ("voice recording legend", "several 1st prize film awards") and is not objective. There is nothing to show this short film is notable in any way. ツStacey (talk) 18:22, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

This article was created six years ago, and in that time, we don't have any better sense of how this guy is notable. He was credited as a producer on a short film that won an award. Other highlights of his career, according to the article, says that he's produced infomercials. That's not sufficient for notability standards, I'm sure. I'm not aware of too many producers who have Wikipedia articles, but I'm skeptical about this one. His short was Last Train to Mahakali. A Google search for his name and "Last Train" produces virtually nothing of note. He only has one credit at IMDb. This seems to be a vanity article. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:36, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Delete/restore redirect: An article repurposed from a redirect by Man tiwari with substantial later editing by Actor Manish Tiwari. The article is riddled with subjective preening about family background and aspirations, perhaps appropriate for a personal site but not here. Any notability would appear to rest with the uncited claim that he "shot to fame" by co-producing a short film; I am seeing no evidence which supports this or any other claim to notability. Fails WP:FILMMAKER, WP:BASIC. (The politician Manish Tewari does appear to be named as "Tiwari" in some English-language sources, e.g. Times of India, so restoring the original redirect may be the best outcome.) A web search turns up little mention of "Dancing Turtle Group" or its linked subsidiaries "Dancing Turtle Records" or "Dancing Turtle Films", let alone any substantial coverage of it. Fails WP:GNG, WP:CORP. Largoplazo (talk) 01:31, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Delete Dancing Turtle Records - I haven't researched the others. Normally for a record label I check for number of notable artists, but that criteria doesn't really apply for a "folk" label such as this. Instead, in this case I look for discussion in ethnomusicography journals etc. I can find no significant coverage in independent, reliable sources at all. The label seems to have no impact. This topic holds no significance whatsoever. What benefit exists to knowing what movies include eclipses? Why not list movies with thunderstorms or rainbows? Songwaters (talk) 01:42, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Keep per WP:NOTESAL: "One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources, per the above guidelines; notable list topics are appropriate for a stand-alone list." There are ten sources that talk about eclipses in films collectively and list examples, and Wikipedia can follow suit in consolidating the films and the common themes. Fails WP:NFO. Film has not been widely distributed, doesn't seem to have been reviewed anywhere, received no awards. It is mentioned in a few reliable sources linked in the article, but only in passing; the focus on the articles is that the filmmaker went to the Amazon and got married and appear to be the result of a PR campaign - they barely cover the film itself. Advertorially toned article about a film, not properly sourced as passing WP:NFILM. As always, every film is not automatically entitled to an article just because it exists -- the notability test is reliable source attention in media, but the only source cited here is the film's own self-published website about itself. • Keep. I added some references, but they required some digging to find, and I am grateful that my local public library subscribes to a number of useful databases. L'Actualité is a well-known and reliable French-language newsmagazine, but the reference that Google Books offered me a snippet of isn't available through the magazine's website, probably because it's so old. The awards from Banff were confirmed with two newspapers in British Columbia accessed via ProQuest through my library. The Video Librarian review at https://www.videolibrarian.com/reviews/asiemut/ is behind a paywall. The best reference is the story in La Presse. It's hard to find good references for a low-budget French-language documentary film from 2006, but I think I've done it. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 08:03, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

A BLP that lacks sources that discuss the subject directly and in detail. Significant RS coverage not found. The article is cited to online directories, industry publicity materials, and other sources otherwise not suitable for notability. Does not meet WP:PORNBIO / WP:ENT. • Comment As can be seen in Category:Cinemas and movie theaters by country and its many subcategories there is no shortage of articles on cinemas in the English-speaking Wikipedia, and I doubt that all of these articles would be about "the oldest" cinemas in their respective cities, so this can hardly be the only criterion for giving a cinema notability. But are there any specific notability criteria regarding cinemas/movie theatres that could be used as a guideline here? Having asked that I would also like to say that Astoria was hardly a run-of-the-mill cinema; it was one of Stockholm's grandest, used by two large film companies for their premieres, and at the time of its closure it was the last of its kind in that city. The building where it was situated is still known as "Astoriahuset" (the Astoria building). /FredrikT (talk) 08:27, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Poorly sourced WP:BLP of a film producer. While producing an Academy Award winning film is a valid claim of notability if the article is sourced properly, it is not an automatic inclusion freebie that exempts a person from having to have reliable source coverage just because it's been stated -- but the three footnotes here all nominally verify the film's existence while completely failing to even mention Cogan's name at all. Note as well that two of the film's other three producers do not have Wikipedia articles (and the one who does was also the film's director, and has sufficient RS coverage for that fact). No prejudice against recreation in the future if somebody can source him much better than this, but the sourcing here isn't cutting it. Bearcat (talk) 14:23, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Not notable biography. While exhaustively sourced, all sources are either not WP:INDEPENDENT (the individual's various blogs and projects), or are not RS (essentially a dozen different websites of small film festivals). A Google News search finds only two short articles that contain any biographical information about Sas Casey herself: the 2200 circulation bi-weekly newspaper Addison County Independent [9], and Vermont Public Radio [10]. All of the sources are either to non-RS like IMDB, non-WP:INDEPENDENT like the company's own website, or - in the two cases of RS and independent sources - are reviews of one film the company produced. • The IMDb references and the company website reference have been removed and the article has been reviewed for objectivity. Most production companies are mentioned in relation to their films, therefore articles about the films mentioning the production company are logical to draw information from. The production company has had multiple films in Sundance and on HBO, and therefore deserves a Wikipedia page, though the article does need continuing work. Fall109 (talk) 20:47, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

I didn't provide failing GNG as a deletion rationale, but even so I don't think the provided sources pass GNG, much less the higher standard of NACTOR. Times of India referring to her as a "well-known actress" doesn't automatically guarantee notability. It's a trivial mention. The only way she even nears WP:NACTOR is if we decide that the interview cited above is reliable (and since we're discouraged from using interviews to establish BLP notability, I'm hinging towards no) under WP:NACTOR #2 (large fan base) or #3 "prolific contributions". The list of films is included at the end of an article that's not even about her, so I don't see it as being verifiable, not to mention the films are likely not notable. No evidence of historical notability, and other possibilities in WP:MOVIE seem unlikely based on search for independent reliable sources. Bakazaka (talk) 18:49, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
Interesting - I hadn't thought of redirecting to Allen. Together Forever (1987 film) only mentions him as a 'see also'. Stephen B. Allen lists this as one of his films, but cited to an IMDb page that doesn't mention him. No objection to a redirect if that's the right target. › Mortee talk 12:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
