Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Film

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Film. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary, it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Film|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Film.

Subject is an unfinished and unreleased film. Per WP:NFF canceled/unreleased films should not have their own article. A search comes up with press releases from 2013 and talk about maybe restarting it in 2016, but nothing current. Jip Orlando (talk) 20:06, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Comment: It looks like the last AfD ended with the consensus it should be merged, but I don't see where that ever happened. Barring any major progress on the film since 2015, I would say that this should be merged and redirected to the director's article. So far it looks like the only true news was that it's still being shopped around so a lot of this could be summarized into a few lines of text or a paragraph in the director's article. ReaderofthePack (。◕‿◕。) 20:56, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
  • I would of course recommend against stating definitively that any of the voice talent is signed for the film, as a lot has happened between 2013 and today. Some of the voice talent may have changed their mind or whatever studio picks this up (if it gets picked up again) may not want some of the actors in the cast. For example, some companies may see Jeffrey Tambor as box office poison. ReaderofthePack (。◕‿◕。) 20:59, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Most of the sources are minor festival listings, which are primary sources, not independent, and trivial coverage. Among the Bengali-language sources, newsviewsbd.com and MediaTimes24 are obscure sites with no reputation for accuracy or fact checking, but The Daily Ittefaq, Bangla Mail 24, and dhallywood24.com are reliable. Dariya News is probably reliable. Searches of the usual types found additional fleeting mentions,[3][4][5] but nothing that would improve the article.

This two-minute student film by a non-notable director clearly doesn't meet WP:NFILM. There's a small cluster of coverage following the Free Spirit Film Festival audience award (11 of the 19 films screened won at least one award), and one piece the next year announcing that it would be at the Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival. Are these brief (even by Bengali standards) articles independent of the subject (not regurgitated press releases) and significant coverage, such that it meets WP:GNG? My evaluation is no, but I'm open to discussion. Worldbruce (talk) 07:59, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

This article is essentially a repost of an AfD deleted article (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vinnie vineyard) with the addition of a current run for Govenor which also does not infer notability. The reason for the earlier AfD still holds. The Db-repost tag was deleted and reinstated a couple of times.

Paraphrased from the original AfD OK, so there are multiple possible claims to notability, but I found none of them hold the water. A third-party unsuccessful political candidate to a state parliament is hardly worth mentioning; same for a DJ at local radio stations. The wrestling career falls short of WP:WRESTLING. I cannot find any reliable independent secondary sources about this "film" (actually a long form YouTube video) other than the one unsigned commentary in the web-only Long Island Press. Flixster is primary and now 404 anyway, Hot Indie News is a promo page and not RS, IMDB is a user-edited directory. It's self-produced, self-published and self-promoted, and even covering the plot is WP:UNDUE because, well, Alex Jones. We'd need independent analytical sources to establish context for every word, per WP:FRINGE. Those sources do not, as far as I can see, exist. Guy (Help!) 12:17, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Agree with lack of notability: I did some searches in Newspapers.com, Google Books and Internet Archive Collections and found nothing substantial; several mentions in the Internet Archive, but they were mainly image credits and mentions in film or event advertisements. There might be a substantial body of work in French, but I'm not detecting that at this time. The French article has only two citations, while the Breton article has three; all share the single citation found in the English article. I'll look at bringing these citations into the English article, and if I need to change my opinion here, I will. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:41, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
    • Remains marginally notable based on reliable sources: I've added citations from the French and Breton articles. I am on the fence as to whether the potential is there for the emergence of sufficient reliable sources for notability to be achieved. This is a public company, and many, if not most, public companies have sufficient reliable source coverage to support an article. I'm thinking that the article should be given the benefit of the doubt at this point; allow it to survive and after a year, perhaps two, return and if article state has not progressed, suggest re-proposal for deletion. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me)

Semi-advertorialized article about a minor film festival, not properly sourced as clearing WP:ORGDEPTH or our notability standards for events. As always, every film festival is not automatically entitled to have a Wikipedia article just because its own self-published website technically verifies that it exists -- but (a) even its own website is defunct, and (b) there are no other sources being cited here to confer notability at all. Company appears to have existed only briefly on paper; the studio never got off the ground. The primary focus of the article and secondary source coverage of the subject was in the context of its attempted purchase of a former Boeing facility, which fell through. Appears to fail WP:ORGCRITE; the only significant coverage the subject received was this article from the Press Telegram. 青い(Aoi) (talk) 23:49, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Redirect and Merge if there is any useful information that could be added to a relevant article about the people, facilities, or land involved. This article about a planned business that never launched may or may not meet the threshold GNG based on contemporaneous coverage, but even if so: (1) it would have to be rewritten to be an article about a failed business launch, not one about an upcoming business, and (2) as a matter of organization, if not notability, any information to preserve would better be a sentence or so within a more complete article about a more notable subject. If there is truly nothing interesting here or fitting for the encyclopedia then it could be deleted as a second best option. Please note that I'm the one who originally created this stub, and you will get no objection from me by being bold and just doing so speedily — I may do the same if I can find some time. • Merge and redirect to Jay Samit article. Jay Samit was the CEO of Long Beach Studios and it was his failed business venture. He is notable and has his own Wikipedia article and is a businessman with a long history of business ventures, some successful, some not. This information should go on his page. The other partner in this business was just an actor, Jack O'Halloran, who is most notable for his acting in Superman movies and is not primarily a businessman, and was not the main person behind this, Jay Samit was the main person behind this, so it belongs merged as part of the Jay Samit article. Jack O'Halloran was mostly just part of this failed business venture because as an actor from Superman movies he brought in publicity but he wasn't the CEO or the brains behind the operation, Jay Samit was the CEO and the guy behind Long Beach Studios. • Merge to Jay Samit as give above. Explanations already given - no notability and no chance of that changing. Nosebagbear (talk) 12:52, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

No evidence this film has received any actual coverage, in fact, I can find nothing beyond IMDB and unrelated coverage of another similar film. Fails GNG and NFILM. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 14:21, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

This sockpuppet creation doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Searches of the usual Google types, EBSCO, HighBeam, JSTOR, Project MUSE, and Questia, by Bengali script name and transliteration, found trivial mentions (in list of films released that season, in lists of films in which such-and-such an actor appeared, in TV program listings, etc.) and the single sentence "Popular actor Shakib Khan lip-synced to the song 'Kintu Ontore Prem Dila' in the film Priya Amar Jaan."[6]. This degree of coverage doesn't meet WP:GNG, and no other evidence of notability has been found that would pass WP:NFILM. Worldbruce (talk) 16:03, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Weak Delete. There does seem to be little here, and the creator was banned, but the film does seem to exist. I did a search, couldn't find indepth sources, but it is not my language, I'm going to partly rely on nominator who seems to know what they're doing. If someone finds sources, would gladly change my opinion. --GRuban (talk) 12:08, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
