Category:Behavioral and social facets of systemic risk[edit]

was Category:Systemic Risk - Behavioral & Social Facets

  • I'm the original author of two category pages
    • Category:Systemic risk This has a related article page Systemic risk that I did not author but could use updating. There may also be key Wikipedia pages that could be tagged with this category. Help from ASIA would be really nice!!!
    • Category:Behavioral and social facets of systemic risk I did not write an article page on this but would participate in a group to write one. See the talk page for more. This is bleeding edge research - 10 toes over the front of the surfboard type stuff. However its very real and have found at least one initial survey article (top quality in a heavily refereed journal) so its undeniably legitimate. Would love help here!!!

Project merger[edit]

I have become aware, as a member, that this project is becoming increasingly more inactive. I recently revived the WikiProject Investment and it has been growing.

So I would like to propose a merger of these two projects. It would benefit the general coverage of finance and investment on Wikipeda ´, as both of these topics have much in common.

Please let me know of what your opinion on this is.

Thanks! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 10:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

I don't really see the need, as finance and investment are and can be separate. But I won't oppose if others favor. Figureofnine (talkcontribs) 12:01, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
@Figureofnine: The two topics have a lot in common.Merging the project can definietly make "attracting" new members easier as more interests and a larger scope are/is represented.Currently the projects are neglected from a lack of active members and as one combined project it could have a bigger opportunity in becoming successful in improving Wikipedia.
Cheers. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:16, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
I guess it's harmless enough. Inactive projects usually just stay inactive. This one is not totally dead. Figureofnine (talkcontribs) 15:22, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
@Figureofnine: The project is heading towards becoming inactive for sure.Id say this could be a great solution. Cheers. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:33, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Go for it. By the way you don't have to ping me with each response. I've this page watchlisted. Figureofnine (talkcontribs) 16:55, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
I support a merger. Investments is arguably a subset of Finance anyway, and in any case, there is clearly substantial overlap in subject matter. We also have a limited number of interested editors, and editors on the two projects also tend to overlap. John M Baker (talk) 15:10, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
I am not sure how many users are needed to comment or approve this so to speak, but I guess it is reasonable to wait until more members of the Finance Project give their input. If this doesnt happen then can we just merge the projects? Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 19:07, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
This is enough support if opposition does not emerge, but I would give it three or four more days to make sure that everyone has a chance to comment. If opposition emerges, you might want to give it the full 30 days, see WP:Merge. John M Baker (talk) 16:08, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Good idea. Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 16:40, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Since no one has opposed this merger since more than 4 days Ill start to merge the two projects.
Just one more matter I would like to get an opinion on:Rename the Project (WikiProject Finance & Investment for example) or make a task force?
Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 17:36, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
That name makes sense. I see no harm with a merger. I've been watchlisting this page for seven years and I can't recall the last time anything of interest surfaced. Merger seems to be a good remedy for the blahs. Figureofnine (talkcontribs) 16:21, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
As the merger is pretty much finished, I would like to propose a name change for the project to WikiProject Finance & Investment.
I suppose Figureofnine somewhat agrees but getting some more opinions would probably be right.
Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 17:08, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
I support the name change. While it is not, strictly speaking, necessary, it is desirable for clarity. John M Baker (talk) 19:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Alright then. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 10:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Edit request: BNY Mellon[edit]

Hello, I've been working with BNY Mellon to suggest improvements to the article about the company. I posted this edit request asking for routine updates to the article, including fresh figures and the most up-to-date information on company executives and board members. Regarding company executives and board members, the article is inaccurate in its current form: Karen Peetz is not president, Gerald Hassell is not CEO, and the makeup of the board of directors is not the same as it was in February 2015. Also, at present the article contradicts itself: The infobox correctly says Charles Scharf is CEO, whereas the body of the article does not. I posted the edit request a few weeks back and have yet to hear from editors. Perhaps editors at WikiProject Finance are interested in reviewing the proposed updates? Thanks in advance, Danilo Two (talk) 19:40, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Ill take a look. Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 14:16, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

British pounds to Congolese francs[edit]

Hello, WikiProject Finance. I'm drafting an article on the Democratic Republic of the Congo's first government, User:Indy beetle/Lumumba Government. At one point I discuss the debt this country had to handle. The numbers given by the source are in British pounds (circa 1960 valuation), but I would like to render these in Congolese francs (which at the time were given the same value as Belgian francs, 1960). Could anyone help me with the conversion? -Indy beetle (talk) 21:07, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Edit request: add a financial data vendor in the list[edit]

Hello, I suggest adding Devexperts to the List of notable financial data vendors in Financial data vendor. I've also posted a request to create the company's page, providing the relevant links, as in the List section there is a demand to have a company's wikipedia article which should be linked. Please have a look and thanks in advance, --Tyhdra (talk) 10:54, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Help with Sageworks (financial tech company)[edit]

Hi! I'm wondering if WikiProject Finance editors might be interested in some proposed updates for the article on Sageworks, which makes financial data and analysis software, and collects financial data on the private sector. In full disclosure, I'm here on behalf of Sageworks as part of my work with Beutler Ink. To start with, I've suggested a proposal for the History section, to provide some background on how the firm got started and a few major milestones. I'm keen to get input from editors from this WikiProject since you may have some familiarity with this type of company and their offerings. At Talk:Sageworks I've provided some background on the history of the page and why I'm offering new drafts. Let me know if you have any feedback or questions. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:57, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Help with updates to New York Life[edit]

Hi, as well as my request for Sageworks (above), I'm working on proposing some article updates to New York Life Insurance Company. I'm wondering if editors from this WikiProject might be interested in giving this a review. To start, I've suggested a proposal to update the infobox. You'll see on the Talk page that I'm looking to correct the Net income to Operating income, add Products, Assets under management, and update the Number of employees. In full disclosure, I'm here on behalf of New York Life Insurance Company as part of my work with Beutler Ink. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:04, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject[edit]

Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

A list of the relevant links on pages which fall within the remit of this wikiproject can be found at

Please take a few minutes to help make these more useful to our readers.— Rod talk 15:38, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

To be clear, that is only half of the proposal. The other half is to move Credit (finance) to Credit, as the primary topic of the term. bd2412 T 13:52, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject Finance & Investment[edit]

The template {{WikiProject Finance & Investment}} does not work. Please arrange a fix.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 17:06, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

(Copy of my reply at WP:Village pump (miscellaneous):)
Dthomsen8, since WP:WikiProject Finance has moved to WP:WikiProject Finance & Investment, and the template is still at Template:WikiProject Finance, I made a redirect at {{WikiProject Finance & Investment}}. I guess someone should move the template to that name. --Pipetricker (talk) 14:38, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

A proposal to review crypto-currency articles in a more organized way[edit]

It has been my impression that WikiProject_Medicine is fully aware of the potential harm that could occur if there were errors in the articles within their remit— potentially far more serious than if say some random biography contained an error. While economic and investment articles are not the same league as the literally life-and-death issues in medical articles, the potential harm in mistaken articles is considerable. We know that there are many editors, often SPA's, more interested in making sure that an article about some crypto currency reads favorably, than making sure it is a neutral unbiased encyclopedia article. A recent post on Jimbo's talk page User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Bitcoin,_Tulips,_Facebook,_ICOs,_binary_options,_and_Slash_Gear identified the problem. While I'm not fully on board with the implicit solutions, I do agree with Jimbo's observation that perhaps a wiki project should take on the task of more formally reviewing the relevant articles and ensuring that they meet our standards.

While I haven't been active in this wiki project. I do have decades of experience in finance and have frankly not worked on finance articles mean because it seemed more like work than fun, but the sounds like something that deserves more attention. What do others think?--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:44, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

While this sounds like an excellent idea, you should be aware that this is an only modestly active project, so this may not be the best place to launch such a review. John M Baker (talk) 19:59, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
That is my fear. Editors with economics and finance knowledge seem to be sadly rare.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:39, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Help with problematic Magnetar Capital article[edit]

Hi there! Reaching out to members of this WikiProject to see if someone with an interest in investment firms would be able to review an edit request at Magnetar Capital to clean up the infobox and add some clarification to the introduction. As disclosure, I do have a financial conflict of interest, as I am here on behalf of Magnetar Capital as part of my work at Beutler Ink. I'm looking for input from uninvolved editors and assistance making edits if they're appropriate. Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:03, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello again! Letting members of this WikiProject know that I've left a message at Talk:Magnetar Capital flagging major issues that need to be addressed on this problematic article, and I'm hoping editors experienced in writing about finance and investment can take a look. I've outlined many of the issues I see with the article and (as mentioned above) have also separately posted a first edit request to work towards resolving them, but would love to get editors' feedback on how best to work through some of the more thorny aspects in a way that best meets Wikipedia's standards. Disclosing again, I do have a financial conflict of interest, as I am here on behalf of Magnetar Capital as part of my work at Beutler Ink. Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:26, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Haircut in finance[edit]

Greetings. There is an ongoing discussion in the Talk page of the article "Haircut (finance)." It concerns the alternative meaning the term has taken, specifically in the context of sovereign-debt write downs during and after the global financial crisis, i.e. the reduction in the face value of the troubled borrower's debts. I invite everyone to participate in it since the issue is rather important for the subject. Take care. -The Gnome (talk) 11:26, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Help with replacing defective article?[edit]

Hello, anyone watching this page: I'm writing to seek help updating the article for Broadridge Financial Solutions. It has been very bad for a long time, and more recently has been snipped back (not unfairly) to a mere stub where the extensive warning tag is almost longer than the article itself. I have a financial COI here, as I've been retained by the company to try to improve the situation. I've elected to write a new draft, and am looking for an unconnected volunteer to review it and, ideally, move it into the mainspace. If you're willing to give it a look, please check out the proposed replacement draft, as well as my talk page explanation. Any comment or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 15:00, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
