Justin Chadwick is an English actor and television and film director. Chadwick was born in Salford, Lancashire and he began acting at the age of eleven. He joined Bolton Little Theatre and played Billy Casper in ‘Kes’ and he attended Turton High School in Bolton, before graduating from Leicester Polytechnic and in 1991 made his screen debut in London Kills Me. Other acting credits include The Loss of Sexual Innocence and appearances in the television dramas Heartbeat, Dangerfield, Dalziel and Pascoe and others. Sir Tom Stoppard OM CBE FRSL is a Czech-born British playwright and screenwriter, knighted in 1997. He co-wrote the screenplays for Brazil, The Russia House, and Shakespeare in Love, themes of human rights, censorship and political freedom pervade his work along with exploration of linguistics and philosophy. Stoppard has been a key playwright of the National Theatre and is one of the most internationally performed dramatists of his generation, in 2008 The Daily Telegraph ranked him number 11 in their list of the 100 most powerful people in British culture. Born in Czechoslovakia, Stoppard left as a refugee, fleeing imminent Nazi occupation. He settled with his family in Britain after the war, in 1946, after being educated at schools in Nottingham and Yorkshire, Stoppard became a journalist, a drama critic and then, in 1960, a playwright. He has been married three times, to Josie Ingle, then Miriam Stoppard, and Sabrina Guinness, Stoppard was born Tomáš Straussler, in Zlín, a shoe town, in the Moravia region of Czechoslovakia. He was the son of Martha Becková and Eugen Straussler, a doctor with the Bata shoe company, both of his parents were non-observant Jews, part of a long-established community. Just before the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the patron, Jan Antonín Baťa, helped re-post his Jewish employees, mostly physicians. On 15 March 1939, the day that the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia, before the Japanese occupation of Singapore, the two sons and their mother were sent on to Australia. Stoppards father remained in Singapore as a British army volunteer, knowing that, as a doctor and his father died when Stoppard was four years old. From there, in 1941, when Tomas was five, the three were evacuated to Darjeeling in India, the boys attended Mount Hermon School, an American multi-racial school, where Tomas became Tom and his brother Petr became Peter. In 1945, his mother Martha married British army major Kenneth Stoppard, setting up Stoppards desire as a child to become an honorary Englishman. I fairly often find Im with people who forget I dont quite belong in the world were in, he says. I find I put a foot wrong – it could be pronunciation, a bit of English history – and suddenly Im there naked, as someone with a pass. This is reflected in his characters, he notes, who are constantly being addressed by the name, with jokes. Stoppard attended the Dolphin School in Nottinghamshire, and later completed his education at Pocklington School in East Riding, Yorkshire, which he hated. Stoppard left school at seventeen and began work as a journalist for the Western Daily Press in Bristol, never receiving a university education, having taken against the idea. Deborah Moggach

Deborah Moggach is an English writer. She has written eighteen novels including The Ex-Wives, Tulip Fever, These Foolish Things, Moggach is one of four daughters of writers Charlotte Hough and Richard Hough. Moggach was brought up in Bushey, Hertfordshire and St Johns Wood in London and she graduated from the University of Bristol in 1971 with a degree in English and trained as a teacher before going to work at the Oxford University Press. She lived in Pakistan for two years in the mid 1970s and in the United States, most of her novels are contemporary, tackling family life, divorce, children and the confusions and disappointments of relationships. Her two historical novels are Tulip Fever, set in Vermeer’s Amsterdam, and In The Dark and her latest novel, Something To Hide, is set in Beijing, Texas, London and West Africa. The Indian subcontinent, too, has featured frequently in her work and her script of the film Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley, was nominated for a BAFTA award, and Goggle-Eyes, from Anne Fine’s novel, won a Writers Guild Award. These Foolish Things, her novel about elderly people moving to India to obtain affordable care, was made into the successful film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Tulip Fever has also made into a film. Her other work includes a great deal of journalism, a stage play, at Oxford University Press she met her husband Tony, from whom she is now divorced. For ten years, her partner was the cartoonist Mel Calman, after his death in 1994, she lived for seven years with Hungarian painter Csaba Pasztor. She currently lives in the Welsh border town of Presteigne with the husband she married in 2014, Mark Williams and they also have a maisonette in Kentish Town, north London. She has two children, Tom, a teacher, and Lottie, a journalist and novelist. In 1985 her mother was sent to prison for helping an ill friend kill herself. Alicia Amanda Vikander is a Swedish actress and former dancer. Vikander made her film debut in Pure, for which she won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. She went on to star in the 2013 Swedish drama film Hotell, Vikander was born in Gothenburg, the daughter of Maria Fahl Vikander, a stage actor, and Svante Vikander, a psychiatrist. Her parents are from small villages in the north and south of Sweden and they separated when Vikander was two months old, and she was mostly raised by her single mother. She has five half-siblings on her fathers side, Vikander has said that she had the best of both worlds growing up, being an only child to her mother and being surrounded by a big family when she went to her father’s house every second week. Her ancestry is Swedish and one quarter Finnish and she appeared in several musicals at the Opera, such as The Sound of Music and Les Misérables. In 1997 she participated in the TV4 kids singing show Småstjärnorna and she won her episode with praise by the judges for her stage presence. Vikander trained in ballet from the age of nine with the Svenska Balettskolan i Göteborg, at the age of 15, Vikander moved from Gothenburg to train at the ballets upper school in Stockholm, she lived on her own, working to become a principal dancer. She traveled around the world for summer courses, training one summer at the School of American Ballet in New York City. At the age of 16, she almost left school to commit fully to the series she worked on with director Tomas Alfredson. Her dance career was sidelined by injuries in her late teens and she auditioned for drama school but was turned down twice. At one point, Vikander was admitted to law school but she never attended, Vikander began her career by appearing in a number of short films and television roles in her native Sweden. She became well known in Scandinavia for her role in the popular Swedish TV drama Andra Avenyn, Vikander received critical acclaim for her feature film debut, playing the leading role of Katarina in the Swedish film Pure. The film centers around the troubled secretary Katarina, who tries to escape her life. In 2011, she had the role of Fragancia Fernandez. In 2012, Vikander gained international attention for playing the key role of Kitty in the English-language film adaptation of Anna Karenina, the film premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and received positive reviews. That year, she added Danish to her repertoire while co-starring as Queen Caroline Mathilde in the Nikolaj Arcel feature film A Royal Affair and it had its world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival and was received with critical acclaim. Dane William DeHaan is an American actor. DeHaan was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and his father, Jeff, is a computer programmer, and his mother, Cynthia Boscia, is an executive at Knoll Furniture. In 2015, DeHaan appeared as James Dean in the drama Life, DeHaan appears in the 2016 independent drama film Two Lovers and a Bear as Roman with Tatiana Maslany as Lucy. The film is set in a town near the North Pole where roads lead to nowhere. On May 12,2015, Luc Besson announced that DeHaan will star in his fiction film Valerian. The film is scheduled for a 2017 release, DeHaan appears in the 17th-century romance Tulip Fever, which premieres February 2017. Zachary Knight Zach Galifianakis is an American actor, writer and comedian. He came to prominence with his Comedy Central Presents special in 2001 and he has also starred in films, such as The Hangover trilogy, Due Date, The Campaign, Birdman or, Puss in Boots, Masterminds and The Lego Batman Movie. Galifianakis was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina and his mother, Mary Frances, is a community arts center owner, and his father, Harry, is a heating oil vendor. Galifianakis played Alan Finger on the Comedy Central show Dog Bites Man and he also guest-starred in the episode of the Comedy Central show The Sarah Silverman Program as Fred the Homeless Guy. In 2006, Galifianakis appeared in Fiona Apples music video for the song Not About Love, a year later, Kanye West employed Galifianakis and indie rock musician Will Oldham for similar purposes in the second version of the video for his song Cant Tell Me Nothing. In June 2006, Galifianakis released the single Come On and Get It and they chose to perform at live rock clubs as opposed to comedy clubs to try to reach a different audience. Dame Judith Olivia Dench CH DBE FRSA, known as Judi Dench, is an English actress and author. Dench made her debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company. Her niece, Emma Dench, is a Roman historian and professor previously at Birkbeck, University of London, and currently at Harvard University. In Britain, Dench has developed a reputation as one of the greatest actresses of the period, primarily through her work in theatre. She has more than once been named one in polls for Britains best actor. Through her parents, Dench had regular contact with the theatre and her father, a physician, was also the GP for the York theatre, and her mother was its wardrobe mistress. Daniel Robert Danny Elfman is an American composer, singer, songwriter, and record producer. In 1976 Elfman entered the industry as an actor. In 1982 he scored his first film, Forbidden Zone, directed by his older brother Richard Elfman, among his honours are four Academy Award nominations, a Grammy for Batman, an Emmy for Desperate Housewives, the 2002 Richard Kirk Award, and the Disney Legend Award. Danny Elfman was born on May 29,1953 in Los Angeles and he is the son of Blossom Elfman, a writer and teacher, and Milton Elfman, a teacher who was in the Air Force. He was raised in a racially mixed affluent community in Baldwin Hills and he spent much of his time in the neighborhoods local movie theatre, adoring the music of such film composers as Bernard Herrmann and Franz Waxman. Stating that he hung out with the band geeks in high school, after dropping out of high school, he followed his brother Richard to France, where he performed with Le Grand Magic Circus, an avant-garde musical theater group. He was never officially a student at the CalArts, nonetheless, Elfman stated, He just laughed, and said, Sit. I continued to sit and play for a couple years, at this time, his brother Richard was forming a new musical theater group. In 1972 Richard Elfman founded the American new wave band/performance art group and they played several shows throughout the 1970s until Richard Elfman left the band to become a filmmaker. As a send-off to the original concept, Richard Elfman created the film Forbidden Zone based on their stage performances. Danny Elfman composed his first score for the film and played the role of Satan, by the time the movie was completed, they had taken the name Oingo Boingo and begun recording and touring as a rock group. From 1976 and on, it was led by Danny Elfman, the semi-theatrical music and comedy troupe had transformed into a ska-influenced new wave band in 1979, and then changed again towards a more guitar-oriented rock sound, in the late 1980s. Oingo Boingo, still led by Danny Elfman, performed as themselves in the 1986 movie Back to School, in 1985, Tim Burton and Paul Reubens invited Elfman to write the score for their first feature film, Pee-wees Big Adventure. Elfman also provided the voice for Jack Skellington in Tim Burtons The Nightmare Before Christmas. Years later he provided the voice for Bonejangles the skeleton in Corpse Bride and the voices of the Oompa-Loompas in Charlie, one of Elfmans notable compositions is The Simpsons Theme. He composed the theme in 1989, and it has been in use ever since, in 2002 Elfman composed the opening theme for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man series. This as well as altered versions made its way to all 3 Spider-Man movies, in 2004 Elfman composed Serenada Schizophrana for the American Composers Orchestra. It was conducted by John Mauceri on its recording and by Steven Sloane at its premiere at Carnegie Hall in New York City on February 23,2005, after its premiere, it was recorded in studio and released onto SACD on October 3,2006

The Weinstein Company

The Weinstein Company is a mini-major film studio, founded in New York City by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 2005. The studio originated after the Weinsteins had left Miramax Films, which they had co-founded in 1979 and they retained ownership of Dimension Films. TWC is one of the largest mini-major film studios in North America, in February 2006, TWC announced a distribution pact with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. MGM distributed the product domestically in theatres, while TWC will retain ownership of their product. On July 13,2006, the Weinsteins and Robert L. Johnson announced the creation of a joint venture studio titled Our Stories Films, in late August 2006, it was announced that TWC and co-investors Hubbard Media Group purchased Ovation TV, an arts-focused cable channel. In November 2006, TWC announced a deal with Blockbuster Video to give the video renting company exclusive rights for rentals starting on January 1,2007. However, under the First Sale Doctrine of United States copyright law, the company is the co-producer, along with Miramax, of the Lifetime reality series Project Runway, which for its first five seasons aired on Bravo. The series won a Peabody Award in 2007, on May 23,2007, the Weinstein Company announced the launch of three new direct-to-video labels, The Miriam Collection, Kaleidoscope TWC, and Dimension Extreme. On February 8,2008, TWC launched a distributor called Third Rail Releasing that released films aimed mainly at the video market. On September 25,2008, TWC ended its three-year distribution pact with MGM three months before the December 31 end date and this happened in part because TWC had struck a television output deal with Showtime, though not through MGMs output deal with them. During the span of their pact, TWC paid for marketing and prints, in 2009, TWC might have lost the rights to the movie Sin City 2. The first film cost only 40 million dollars to make and brought in almost 159 million in box office alone, Weinstein Company lawyer Bert Fields quickly denied this report saying TWCs rights to produce sequels to Sin City remain intact as they always have been. Any suggestion to the contrary is complete hogwash, in June 2009, the Weinstein Company announced the hiring of a financial adviser to restructure the finances of the company. Since July 2009, many occurred at TWC, and the release dates of some films were pushed back. On September 14,2009, TWC sold its stake in Genius Products, Genius however, had announced to exit the home video distribution business and the DVD rights that were distributed by Genius were sold to Vivendi Entertainment. TWC also struck a deal with Vivendi, the same year, it won a Peabody Award for The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. In January 2010, TWC announced more layoffs at the company after the box office failure of Nine, on February 21,2010, The Weinstein Company made a deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releasing the DVDs through Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. Bob and Harvey Weinstein attempted to buy back Miramax from Disney in 2010, an ownership interest in TWCs library at that point, consisting of 200 titles, was sold off to Goldman Sachs and Assured Guaranty in 2010

Jack OConnell is an English actor. Born and brought up in Derby, he trained in acting at the Central Junior Television Workshop in nearby Nottingham, which led to roles in film, television, and theatre. His film debut as a skinhead, in the coming-of-age drama This Is England, heralded his propensity for playing angry. OConnell first found fame as the hard-living James Cook on the E4 teen series Skins and his breakthrough came when he gave critically acclaimed performances in the independent films Starred Up and 71. OConnell subsequently starred as war hero Louis Zamperini in his first major Hollywood picture, Angelina Jolies Unbroken, in 2016, he co-starred with George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Money Monster, a film directed by Jodie Foster. Born in Alvaston, Derby, OConnell grew up in a working-class family and his father, Johnny Patrick OConnell, was an Irishman from Ballyheigue, County Kerry, who worked on the British railways for Bombardier until his death from pancreatic cancer in 2009. His mother, Alison, who is English, was employed by airline British Midland before taking on management of her sons career and his younger sister, Megan, is an aspiring actress. OConnell does not consider himself British, instead, he identifies strongly with his Derby upbringing and Irish heritage. As the grandson of Ken Gutteridge, a player for and later manager of Burton Albion and he played as a striker for Alvaston Rangers and was later scouted by Derby County, where he had trials. After a series of injuries ended this career path, he wanted to join the army and his parents had sent him to army cadets when he was 12, with the aim of teaching him discipline, but his juvenile criminal record prevented him from enlisting in the army. As a youth, OConnell was in and out of court on charges related to alcohol and violence, regarding his past transgressions, he has described himself as a product of his environment. At age 16, OConnell left Saint Benedict Catholic School with two GCSEs, a B in drama and a C in English. He took an interest in acting during the drama classes, and from age 13, he attended the free Television Workshop in Nottingham. OConnell began attending auditions in London, where he slept outside. He eventually moved from Derby to Hounslow in west London, working as a farmhand in Cobham in between acting parts, has delivered one gripping physical performance after another, bringing an electric authenticity to the portrayal of angry, troubled youth. OConnell made his acting debut in 2005 when he played a runaway with anger issues in an episode of Doctors. His stage debut came that year after a rendition of the play The Spider Men by the Television Workshop was selected to be performed at the Royal National Theatre in London. Holliday Clark Grainger, also credited as Holly Grainger, is an English screen and stage actress. Some of her prominent roles are Lucrezia Borgia in the Showtime series The Borgias, Grainger was born in Didsbury, Manchester. One of her grandfathers is Italian and her first experience of acting was at age six when she was scouted for a BBC TV series. She appeared in many TV shows and independent films as a child actor, Grainger attended Parrs Wood High School from 1999 to 2006, and in 2007 began study for a degree in English literature at the University of Leeds. However, she opted for the Open University where she gained a first class honours degree. Graingers first acting role was at six years old in the BBC comedy drama series All Quiet on the Preston Front, roles followed in Casualty, Doctors, Dalziel and Pascoe. Grainger played Megan Boothe in Where the Heart Is, Stacey Appleyard in Waterloo Road, in 2011 she appeared in the television series The Borgias, playing Lucrezia Borgia with Jeremy Irons in the role of Pope Alexander VI. The series, created by Oscar-winning Neil Jordan and shot in Hungary, Grainger also performed on stage and in film. In June 2011, she gained the role of Estella in Mike Newells film adaptation of Great Expectations, opposite Jeremy Irvine. The movie, screened at Toronto International Film Festival 2012, had its European premiere as the closing film of the BFI London Film Festival. She starred in Disassociation, a play by Luke Bailey, at the Lowry and she was one of the female leads in The Riot Club, the film version of the play Posh, alongside Max Irons. Grainger played Cinderellas stepsister Anastasia Tremaine in Kenneth Branaghs 2015 film version of Cinderella and she is to appear in a film adaptation of the novel Tulip Fever alongside Alicia Vikander. In 2014, she appeared on stage in a version of Chekovs Three Sisters, in 2016, Holliday starred in Disneys The Finest Hours. Amsterdam is the capital and most populous municipality of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its status as the capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands, although it is not the seat of the government, which is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 851,373 within the city proper,1,351,587 in the urban area, the city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The metropolitan area comprises much of the part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe. Amsterdams name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the citys origin around a dam in the river Amstel, during that time, the city was the leading centre for finance and diamonds. The city is also the capital of the Netherlands. Many large Dutch institutions have their headquarters there, and seven of the worlds 500 largest companies, including Philips and ING, are based in the city. In 2012, Amsterdam was ranked the second best city to live in by the Economist Intelligence Unit and 12th globally on quality of living for environment, the city was ranked 3rd in innovation by Australian innovation agency 2thinknow in their Innovation Cities Index 2009. The Amsterdam seaport to this day remains the second in the country, famous Amsterdam residents include the diarist Anne Frank, artists Rembrandt van Rijn and Vincent van Gogh, and philosopher Baruch Spinoza. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the oldest stock exchange in the world, is located in the city center. After the floods of 1170 and 1173, locals near the river Amstel built a bridge over the river, the earliest recorded use of that name is in a document dated October 27,1275, which exempted inhabitants of the village from paying bridge tolls to Count Floris V. This allowed the inhabitants of the village of Aemstelredamme to travel freely through the County of Holland, paying no tolls at bridges, locks, the certificate describes the inhabitants as homines manentes apud Amestelledamme. By 1327, the name had developed into Aemsterdam, Amsterdam is much younger than Dutch cities such as Nijmegen, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. In October 2008, historical geographer Chris de Bont suggested that the land around Amsterdam was being reclaimed as early as the late 10th century. This does not necessarily mean there was already a settlement then, since reclamation of land may not have been for farming—it may have been for peat. Tulip mania

Tulip mania or tulipomania was a period in the Dutch Golden Age during which contract prices for bulbs of the recently introduced tulip reached extraordinarily high levels and then suddenly collapsed. At the peak of tulip mania, in March 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the income of a skilled craftsman. The term tulip mania is now often used metaphorically to refer to any large economic bubble when asset prices deviate from intrinsic values, the 1637 event was popularized in 1841 by the book Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, written by British journalist Charles Mackay. According to Mackay, at one point 12 acres of land were offered for a Semper Augustus bulb, Mackay claims that many such investors were ruined by the fall in prices, and Dutch commerce suffered a severe shock. Although Mackays book is a classic, his account is contested, many modern scholars feel that the mania was not as extraordinary as Mackay described and argue that not enough price data are available to prove that a tulip bulb bubble actually occurred. Research is difficult because of the economic data from the 1630s—much of which come from biased. Some modern economists have proposed rational explanations, rather than a speculative mania, for the rise, for example, other flowers, such as the hyacinth, also had high initial prices at the time of their introduction, which immediately fell. The high asset prices may also have driven by expectations of a parliamentary decree that contracts could be voided for a small cost—thus lowering the risk to buyers. Tulip bulbs were soon distributed from Vienna to Augsburg, Antwerp and he planted his collection of tulip bulbs and found they were able to tolerate the harsher conditions of the Low Countries, shortly thereafter the tulip began to grow in popularity. The tulip was different from other flower known to Europe at that time. The appearance of the tulip as a status symbol at this time coincides with the rise of newly independent Hollands trade fortunes. No longer the Spanish Netherlands, its resources could now be channeled into commerce. Amsterdam merchants were at the center of the lucrative East Indies trade, as a result, tulips rapidly became a coveted luxury item, and a profusion of varieties followed. They were classified in groups, the tulips of red, yellow, or white were known as Couleren, the multicolored Rosen, Violetten, and the rarest of all. The multicolor effects of intricate lines and flame-like streaks on the petals were vivid and spectacular, growers named their new varieties with exalted titles. Many early forms were prefixed Admirael, often combined with the growers names, generael was another prefix used for around thirty varieties. Later varieties were given even more extravagant names, derived from Alexander the Great or Scipio, or even Admiral of Admirals, however, naming could be haphazard and varieties highly variable in quality. Most of these varieties have now died out, tulips grow from bulbs, and can be propagated through both seeds and buds

Thomas Anthony Hollander is an English actor. He began his career in theatre, winning the Ian Charleson Award in 1992 for his performance as Witwoud in The Way of the World at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. He is known for his roles in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and In the Loop and drama films such as Enigma, Pride & Prejudice, Gosford Park. He played the role in the sitcom Rev. which won the British Academy Television Award for best sitcom in 2011. He also starred in the BBC series The Night Manager and ITVs Doctor Thorne and he is currently appearing as Henry Carr in a revival of Tom Stoppards play Travesties at the Apollo Theatre in London, directed by Patrick Marber. The play transferred to the West End, with the same cast, after its run at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Hollander has been nominated for an Olivier Award for Best actor for his role in Travesties and he will play Dr. Sorgh in the film Tulip Fever which is due for U. S. release in 2017. The screenplay, also by Stoppard, is an adaptation of Deborah Moggachs historical novel and he will also appear as Garin in Terry Georges historical drama The Promise, his third collaboration with George who also directed him in Some Mothers Son and Whole Lotta Sole. In January 2016, he became an Honorary Fellow of Selwyn College, Cambridge, Hollander was born in Bristol, the son of teachers, and was raised in Oxford. His father is descended from Czech Jews who converted to Catholicism and he attended the Dragon School and then Abingdon School, where he was chief chorister. As a youngster, he was a member of the National Youth Theatre, in 1981, at the age of 14, he won the lead role in a BBC dramatisation of Leon Garfields John Diamond. Hollander read English at Selwyn College, Cambridge and he was actively involved in stage productions as a member of the Footlights and was president of the Marlowe Society. Sam Mendes, a friend and fellow student, directed him in plays while they were at Cambridge. He has worked repeatedly with Michael Gambon and Bill Nighy and is a friend of James Purefoy. Although highly respected as an actor and the recipient of several awards. Hollander portrayed Lord Cutler Beckett, the heavy in Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Mans Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean and he also appeared in the TNT miniseries The Company as Kim Philby, having previously played Guy Burgess in the BBCs Cambridge Spies. He returned to the stage in 2007 with the premiere of Joe Penhalls play Landscape with Weapon at the Royal National Theatre. Kevin McKidd is a Scottish-American television and film actor, director, and occasional singer. He also provides the voice of John Soap MacTavish in the video games Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty and he also played Poseidon in the film Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The Lightning Thief. McKidd was born on 9 August 1973 in Elgin in northeast Scotland, the son of Kathleen, a secretary, and Neil McKidd, at 17, he worked at the Macallan distillery in Speyside. He later went to work with the Lumsden family of coppersmiths and he attended Seafield Primary School and Elgin Academy, and was a member of the local amateur dramatic group, Moray Youth Theatre. Planning to study engineering, he attended the University of Edinburgh. He joined Edinburgh Universitys student theatre company, Bedlam Theatre, where he was a member of the comedy troupe The Improverts. After playing Tommy in Trainspotting, McKidd was cast as Father Deegan in the 1996 Christmas episode of Father Ted, subsequent roles include Malky Johnson in Small Faces. In 2004, he played James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, in 1999 he was part of an ensemble cast in Mike Leighs Topsy Turvy, depicting the development of Gilbert and Sullivans The Mikado. The actors researched their historical characters and used this knowledge during extensive rehearsals to help develop dialogue for scenes blocked out by Leigh, McKidd, like the rest of the cast, did his own singing in the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas portrayed in the film. In 2001 he played Elliot in the British film Understanding Jane and he appeared in Ridley Scotts Kingdom of Heaven, and in the 2002 film adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby. In Neil Marshalls horror film, Dog Soldiers, he appeared as Pte Lawrence Cooper, in the 2005 BBC drama, The Virgin Queen, he played Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk. In 1998, McKidd was in the four part BBC2 series Looking After Jo Jo and he was also one of the main stars of the joint HBO/BBC series Rome, where his portrayal of the soldier/politician Lucius Vorenus received critical acclaim. McKidd also starred in the premier of Caryl Churchills newest play and he played Todd, the romantic partner of Joan, and her co-worker as hat maker. Additional work includes his role in the Silence of the Lambs prequel Hannibal Rising, in late 2007, McKidd began his role as the lead character in the American Fantasy television series Journeyman on NBC. Despite building an audience, the show suffered from the fractious situation in America due to the writers strike at the time. David Harewood MBE is a British actor. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and he is known for playing David Estes, the Deputy Director of the CIAs Counterterrorism Center, in the Showtime series Homeland, and Hank Henshaw/Jonn Jonzz on Supergirl. Harewood was born and grew up in the Small Heath area of Birmingham and his parents are originally from Barbados, and moved to England in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His father was a driver and his mother worked as a caterer. He has a sister Sandra and two brothers, Rodger and Paul and he attended St. Benedicts Junior School and Washwood Heath Comprehensive School. He was a member of the National Youth Theatre, in his youth, he worked in a wine bar, Alberts in Dale End, in Birmingham City Centre. At 18, Harewood gained a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and he is known for his television appearances on Ballykissangel, The Vice and Fat Friends. He played Don Coleman in Hustle, in 2009, Harewood appeared in the BBC single drama Mrs Mandela, playing Nelson Mandela. He played Brother Tuck in the series of Robin Hood. He appeared in the Doctor Who story The End of Time and he played Martin Luther King in the premiere of The Mountaintop, written by American playwright Katori Hall, directed by James Dacre, which opened at Theatre503 in London on 9 June 2009. Harewood next appeared in two episodes of Chris Ryans Strike Back as Colonel Tshuma, from June to September 2010, he played Theseus in the premiere of Moira Buffinis play Welcome to Thebes at the National Theatre in London. He played Martin Viner in an episode of New Tricks and he narrates Welcome to Lagos, a BBC documentary about Lagos. He has performed in several West End and Broadway productions, Law was named after a bit of both in the book Jude the Obscure and the Beatles song Hey Jude. He grew up in Blackheath, an area in the Borough of Greenwich, in 1987, Law began acting with the National Youth Music Theatre. Law won the Most Promising Newcomer award from the Evening Standard British Film Awards for his role as Lord Alfred Bosie Douglas, in Andrew Niccols science fiction film Gattaca, Law played the role of a disabled former swimming star living in a eugenics-obsessed dystopia. In Clint Eastwoods Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the role earned him a Bafta award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2001, Law starred as Russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev in the film Enemy at the Gates, in 2002, he played a mob hitman in Sam Mendess 1930s period drama Road to Perdition. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999, both films were directed by Anthony Minghella. The Daily Mail is a British daily middle-market tabloid newspaper owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust and published in London. Its sister paper The Mail on Sunday was launched in 1982, Scottish and Irish editions of the daily paper were launched in 1947 and 2006 respectively. A survey in 2014 found the age of its reader was 58. It had a daily circulation of 1,510,824 copies in November 2016. Its website has more than 100 million unique visitors per month, the Daily Mail has been accused of racism, and printing sensationalist and inaccurate scare stories of science and medical research. The Mail was originally a broadsheet but switched to a format on 3 May 1971. On this date it absorbed the Daily Sketch, which had been published as a tabloid by the same company. The publisher of the Mail, the Daily Mail and General Trust, is currently a FTSE250 company, the paper has a circulation of around two million, which is the fourth largest circulation of any English-language daily newspaper in the world. Circulation figures according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations in March 2014 show gross daily sales of 1,708,006 for the Daily Mail. According to a December 2004 survey, 53% of Daily Mail readers voted for the Conservative Party, compared to 21% for Labour, the main concern of Viscount Rothermere, the current chairman and main shareholder, is that the circulation be maintained. The Mail has been edited by Paul Dacre since 1992, the Daily Mail, devised by Alfred Harmsworth and his brother Harold, was first published on 4 May 1896. It cost a halfpenny at a time when other London dailies cost one penny, and was more populist in tone and more concise in its coverage than its rivals. The planned issue was 100,000 copies but the print run on the first day was 397,215, Lord Salisbury, 19th-century Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, dismissed the Daily Mail as a newspaper produced by office boys for office boys. By 1902, at the end of the Boer Wars, the circulation was over a million, from the beginning, the Mail also set out to entertain its readers with human interest stories, serials, features and competitions. In 1900 the Daily Mail began printing simultaneously in both Manchester and London, the first national newspaper to do so, the same production method was adopted in 1909 by the Daily Sketch, in 1927 by the Daily Express and eventually by virtually all the other national newspapers. Printing of the Scottish Daily Mail was switched from Edinburgh to the Deansgate plant in Manchester in 1968 and, for a while, in 1987, printing at Deansgate ended and the northern editions were thereafter printed at other Associated Newspapers plants. In 1906 the paper offered £1,000 for the first flight across the English Channel, punch magazine thought the idea preposterous and offered £10,000 for the first flight to Mars, but by 1910 both the Mails prizes had been won. Matthias Schoenaerts is a Belgian actor, film producer and graffiti artist of Flemish origin. He made his debut at the age of 13 in Daens. Schoenaerts received critical acclaim for his portrayal of an ex-soldier suffering from PTSD in Disorder, in 2015, he was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. Schoenaerts was born in Antwerp, Flanders, the Flemish region of Belgium and he is the son of actor Julien Schoenaerts and Dominique Wiche, a costume designer, translator and French teacher. He has a half brother, Bruno Schoenaerts, who is a lawyer. Schoenaerts grew up bilingual speaking Dutch and French and he is also fluent in English, which he learned by watching American movies. In 1987, at nine years old, he appeared on a production of Antoine de Saint-Exupérys The Little Prince opposite his father. His mother, Dominique, was the designer of the play. He started producing graffiti as a teenager under the pseudonym Zenith and it is possible to watch some videos of Schoenaerts doing graffiti in Belgium on YouTube. Schoenaerts was close to becoming a soccer player and was on the books of Belgian team Beerschot AC. In 2013, Schoenaerts stated that he is a fan of Spanish football club FC Barcelona, at the age of 13, Schoenaerts made his film debut with a small role in the 1992 Belgian film Daens, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His father also starred in the film but they did not share any scenes together, in 2003, Schoenaerts was named one of Europes Shooting Stars by the European Film Promotion. After completing studies at The Academy of Dramatic Arts in Antwerp, he featured in several shorts, in 2006, Schoenaerts played Dennis in Hilde Van Mieghems Love Belongs to Everyone, and had a small role as a member of the Dutch resistance in Paul Verhoevens Black Book. In 2007, he starred in Ben van Lieshouts film De Muze, in the same year, Schoenaerts also starred in the mini-series The Emperor of Taste, playing a Belgian soldier in World War II. In 2009, he starred in Dorothée Van Den Berghes My Queen Karo, in 2010, he played the lead role in Alex Stockmans Techno-thriller Pulsar, and had a cameo in Franck Richards La Meute. Harvey Weinstein, CBE is an American film producer and film studio executive. He is best known as co-founder of Miramax, which produced several independent films including Pulp Fiction, Sex, Lies and Videotape, The Crying Game. He and his brother Bob have been co-chairmen of The Weinstein Company, their production company. Weinstein was born in Flushing, New York and he was raised in a Jewish family, the son of Max Weinstein, a diamond cutter, and Miriam. He grew up with his brother, Bob Weinstein, in a housing co-op named Electchester in New York City. He graduated from John Bowne High School, and then the University at Buffalo, Weinstein, his brother Bob, and Corky Burger independently produced rock concerts as Harvey & Corky Productions in Buffalo through most of the 1970s. Both Weinstein brothers had grown up with a passion for movies, in the late 1970s, using profits from their concert promotion business, the brothers created a small independent film distribution company named Miramax, named after their parents, Miriam and Max. The companys first releases were primarily music-oriented concert films such as Paul McCartneys Rockshow, in the early 1980s Miramax acquired the rights to two British films of benefit shows filmed for the human rights organization Amnesty International. Working closely with Martin Lewis, the producer of the original films, the resulting film was released as The Secret Policemans Other Ball in May 1982 and it became Miramaxs first hit. The movie raised considerable sums for Amnesty International and was credited by Amnesty with having helped to raise its profile in the United States, the Weinsteins slowly built upon this success throughout the 1980s with arthouse films that achieved critical attention and modest commercial success. The publicity that surrounded the case resulted in the release of Adams. In 1989, their successful release of Steven Soderberghs Sex, Lies. Also in 1989, Miramax released two films, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover and director Pedro Almodóvars film Tie Me Up. Both of which the MPAA rating board gave an X-rating, effectively stopping nationwide release for these films, Weinstein sued the MPAA over the rating system. His lawsuit was thrown out, but got the MPAA to agree to introduce the new NC-17 rating. Miramax continued to grow its library of films and directors until, in 1993, after the success of The Crying Game, Miramax won its first Academy Award for Best Picture in 1997 with the victory of The English Patient. This started a string of successes that included Good Will Hunting Shakespeare in Love. Paramount Pictures Corporation is an American film studio based in Hollywood, California, that has been a subsidiary of the American media conglomerate Viacom since 1994. In 1916, film producer Adolph Zukor contracted 22 actors and actresses and these fortunate few would become the first movie stars. Paramount Pictures is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America, in 2014, Paramount Pictures became the first major Hollywood studio to distribute all of its films in digital form only. Paramount is the fifth oldest surviving studio in the world after the French studios Gaumont Film Company and Pathé, followed by the Nordisk Film company. It is the last major film studio headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Paramount Pictures dates its existence from the 1912 founding date of the Famous Players Film Company, hungarian-born founder, Adolph Zukor, who had been an early investor in nickelodeons, saw that movies appealed mainly to working-class immigrants. With partners Daniel Frohman and Charles Frohman he planned to offer feature-length films that would appeal to the class by featuring the leading theatrical players of the time. By mid-1913, Famous Players had completed five films, and Zukor was on his way to success and its first film was Les Amours de la reine Élisabeth, which starred Sarah Bernhardt. That same year, another aspiring producer, Jesse L. Lasky, opened his Lasky Feature Play Company with money borrowed from his brother-in-law, Samuel Goldfish, the Lasky company hired as their first employee a stage director with virtually no film experience, Cecil B. DeMille, who would find a site in Hollywood, near Los Angeles, for his first feature film. Hodkinson and actor, director, producer Hobart Bosworth had started production of a series of Jack London movies, Paramount was the first successful nationwide distributor, until this time, films were sold on a statewide or regional basis which had proved costly to film producers. Also, Famous Players and Lasky were privately owned while Paramount was a corporation, in 1916, Zukor maneuvered a three-way merger of his Famous Players, the Lasky Company, and Paramount. Zukor and Lasky bought Hodkinson out of Paramount, and merged the three companies into one, with only the exhibitor-owned First National as a rival, Famous Players-Lasky and its Paramount Pictures soon dominated the business. It was this system that gave Paramount a leading position in the 1920s and 1930s, the driving force behind Paramounts rise was Zukor. In 1926, Zukor hired independent producer B. P. Schulberg and they purchased the Robert Brunton Studios, a 26-acre facility at 5451 Marathon Street for US$1 million. In 1927, Famous Players-Lasky took the name Paramount Famous Lasky Corporation, three years later, because of the importance of the Publix Theatres, it became Paramount Publix Corporation. In 1928, Paramount began releasing Inkwell Imps, animated cartoons produced by Max, the Fleischers, veterans in the animation industry, were among the few animation producers capable of challenging the prominence of Walt Disney. He is known as a member of the pop rock band One Direction and he made his debut as a singer with his band White Eskimo, who performed locally in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. Cobham Hall is an independent day and boarding school for girls in Cobham, Kent. The school is housed in a Tudor era manor, which is now Grade I listed and it is a Round Square school and a member of the Girls Schools Association. There has been a house on the site since the 12th century. The attic storey was extended and other alterations made for The 3rd Earl of Darnley by Sir William Chambers, the organ was built by John Snetzler in 1778-9. The fourth earl, who inherited in 1781, employed James Wyatt extensively, for interiors that included the Picture Gallery and the Dining Room, and for stables and a Gothic dairy. The Library was fitted up by George Stanley Repton in 1817-20, Cobham Hall remained the family home of the Earls of Darnley until 1957 and is now home to the school. It is open to the public on a number of days each year. The building has also used as a film set. A scene in Agent Cody Banks 2 in which Frankie Muniz fights Keith Allen in a full of priceless treasures was filmed in the Gilt Hall. Scenes from an adaption of Bleak House were also filmed outside the building, the Hall is used as the school Abbey Mount in the 2008 film Wild Child starring Emma Roberts. And as the Foundling Hospital in the CBBC adaptation of Hetty Feather, Cobham Hall was founded as an international boarding school for girls aged between eleven and eighteen in 1962. The school has a contingent of international students. Just over 50% are local British while the rest represent some 30 nationalities, in 2009, the administration decided to replace A Levels with the International Baccalaureate as its main curriculum in Sixth Form after first introducing it in November 2008. Cobham, Kent

Cobham is a village and civil parish in the Gravesham District of Kent, England. It is located south of Watling Street, the old road from Dover to London, the hamlet of Sole Street lies within the parish, which covers an area of 1,240 ha and has a population of 1,328. Increasing to 1,469 at the 2011 census, the village is in a Conservation Area and as such remains relatively unspoilt. The parish church is 13th century and is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, thirteen of the brasses belong to the years 1320–1529 and commemorate members of the Brooke and Cobham families. The church in Luddesdown, part of the parish, is dedicated to St Peter. Next to the church in the village is Cobham College, a home for secular priests. The Cobham family was established here before the reign of King John, since 1957, the Hall has been a public school for girls, it opens to the public on some occasions in the year. Cobham has strong links with Charles Dickens, who used to out to the village. Other personalities connected with Cobham include Sir Joseph Williamson, and the insane artist Richard Dadd, the Hon Ivo Bligh, who became the 8th Earl of Darnley, was the first English cricket captain to attempt to recover The Ashes from Australia in the late 19th century. Comedian Joe Pasquale lives in the area and owns land adjoining the estate of Cobham Hall, the village was also linked to its namesake HMS Cobham, a Ham class minesweeper which was an active Royal Navy vessel between 1953 and 1966. Norwich Cathedral is an English cathedral located in Norwich, Norfolk, dedicated to the Holy and Undivided Trinity. It is the church for the Church of England Diocese of Norwich and is one of the Norwich 12 heritage sites. The cathedral was begun in 1096 and constructed out of flint and mortar, a Saxon settlement and two churches were demolished to make room for the buildings. The cathedral was completed in 1145 with the Norman tower still seen today topped with a spire covered with lead. Several episodes of damage necessitated rebuilding of the east end and spire, the large cloister has over 1,000 bosses including several hundred carved and ornately painted ones. Norwich Cathedral has the second largest cloisters in England, only outsized by Salisbury Cathedral, the cathedral close is one of the largest in England and one of the largest in Europe and has more people living within it than any other close. Measuring 461 ft or 140.5 m long and, with the transepts,177 ft or 54 m wide at completion, Norwich Cathedral was the largest building in East Anglia. In 672 the Archbishop of Canterbury, Theodore of Tarsus divided East Anglia into two dioceses, one covering Norfolk, with its see at Elmham, the other, covering Suffolk with its see at Dunwich. During much of the 9th century, because of the Danish incursions, there was no bishop at Elmham, in addition the see of Dunwich was extinguished and East Anglia became a single diocese once more. Following the Norman Conquest many sees were moved to more urban centres, that of Elmham being transferred to Thetford in 1072. The new cathedral incorporated a monastery of Benedictine monks, building started in 1096 and the cathedral was completed in 1145. It was built from flint and mortar and faced with cream coloured Caen limestone and it still retains the greater part of its original stone structure. The ground plan remains almost entirely as it was in Norman times, the cathedral has an unusually long nave of fourteen bays. The transepts are without aisles and the east end terminates in an apse with an ambulatory, from the ambulatory there is access to two chapels of unusual shape, the plan of each being based on two intersecting circles. This allows more correct orientation of the altars than in the normal kind of radial chapel. The crossing tower was the last piece of the Norman cathedral to be completed and it is boldly decorated with circles, lozenges and interlaced arcading. The present spire was added in the fifteenth century. A large two-storey cloister, the only such in England, with over 1,000 ceiling bosses was begun in 1297, the Norman spire was blown down in 1362

Holkham
–
Holkham is a village and civil parish in the north-west of the county of Norfolk, England. Besides the small village, the parish includes the major home and estate of Holkham Hall. The three lie at the centre of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, the parish has an area of 23.92 km2 and in the 2001 census had a population of 236 in 104 households. For the purposes of government, the parish falls within the district of North Norfolk. The village of Holkham is located on the coast road between Wells-next-the-Sea and Burnham Overy Staithe, at one time the village was a landing with access to the sea via a tidal creek to the harbour at Wells. The creek succumbed to land reclamation, much of which created the grounds of the estate, starting in 1639, the land west of the wall was subsequently turned to agricultural uses. Aerial photographs show traces of the creek in the topsoil, now the village serves principally as the main entrance to the hall and deer park, and to Lady Annes Drive which leads to the beach. Among the houses of the village are several estate-owned businesses, including a hotel, Holkham Hall is one of the principal Palladian houses of England, built for an ancestor of Thomas Coke, noted agricultural innovator and later 1st Earl of Leicester of Holkham. Both hall and park are open to the public, from the main coast road Lady Annes Drive, a toll road owned by the Holkham Estate, crosses the reclaimed salt marshes to Holkham Gap. This is a gap in pine-fringed sand dunes form the outer coastline. From here, a sandy beach runs both ways to Wells and Burnham Overy Staithe. To the west of the gap was a nudist section of beach, Holkham railway station was located about halfway along Lady Annes Drive. The railway line through to Holkham was built in 1864, the line made up part of the Great Eastern Railway network, which ran from Wells-next-the-Sea station, through Holkham and on to Burnham Market railway station. The line was closed in 1952, Holkham Pines is the name of the large belt of pine trees which runs west to east inland from the beach, the eastern end is known as Wells Woods. Holkham Freshmarsh is the name refers to the series of wet meadows which sit inland from the pine belt. They are bisected by Lady Annes Drive, which access to the woods. The marshes are important for their population of pink-footed geese. The last of the ancient Celts to inhabit East Anglia were the tribe of the Iceni and they are believed responsible for the earthworks of the Roman Iron Age visible in the marsh

Tilbury

Tilbury is a town in the borough of Thurrock, Essex, England. It was established in the late 19th century, on land that was part of Chadwell St Mary. It contains a 16th century fort and an ancient cross-river ferry, Tilbury has a major deep-water port which contributes to the local economy. The name of the present town of Tilbury is derived from the settlements of East and West Tilbury. The name of these settlements is derived from the Saxon burgh, fortified place, either belonging to Tila, the 8th century spelling was Tilaburg, and the spelling in Domesday was Tilberia. Tilburys history is connected with its geographical location. There is archaeological evidence of Roman occupation, at the time, sea-levels had dropped, making the marshes habitable. There may well have been a Roman settlement on the site of what is now Tilbury Docks, in the 12th century the river, which had hitherto consisted of difficult channels with uncharted shoals, was changed by the process of embanking the river and enclosing areas of marsh. This improved the flow, and also resulted in improved land resources on the marsh. It was nevertheless an unhealthy place in which to live, Daniel Defoe, in 1588 Queen Elizabeth I came ashore here to review her main army at the nearby village of West Tilbury. The station was originally named Tilbury Fort and opened in 1854, the station was renamed Tilbury Riverside railway station in 1936. A few houses were built for the workers, but it was not until the construction of Tilbury Docks that there was any settlement worthy of a name. Whilst the docks were being built, the thousands of workers were provided with temporary accommodation or had to commute from surrounding villages. Tilbury–Gravesend Ferry has operated from early times. A sketch-map of 1571 shows evidence of two jetties, the one on the north leading to a northward road crossing the marsh. The curve and narrowness of the river made it a suitable place to construct forts for the defence of London against foreign invaders. The first permanent fort at Tilbury was a D-shaped blockhouse built in 1539 by Henry VIII and initially called the Thermitage Bulwark, the Tilbury blockhouse was designed to cross-fire with a similar structure at New Tavern, Gravesend. During the Armada campaign, the fort was reinforced with earthworks and a palisade, the fort was rebuilt under Charles I and is now owned by English Heritage

Essex /ˈɛsᵻks/ is a county in England immediately north-east of London. It borders the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent across the estuary of the River Thames to the south, the county town is Chelmsford, which is the only city in the county. Essex occupies the part of the old Kingdom of Essex, before this. As well as areas, the county also includes London Stansted Airport, the new towns of Basildon and Harlow, Lakeside Shopping Centre, the port of Tilbury. Originally recorded in AD527, Essex occupied territory to the north of the River Thames, incorporating all of what later became Middlesex and its territory was later restricted to lands east of the River Lea. In changes before the Norman conquest the East Saxons were subsumed into the Kingdom of England and, following the Norman conquest, Essex became a county. During the medieval period, much of the area was designated a Royal forest, including the county in a period to 1204. Gradually, the subject to forest law diminished, but at various times included the forests of Becontree, Chelmsford, Epping, Hatfield, Ongar. County-wide administration Essex County Council was formed in 1889, however County Boroughs of West Ham, Southend-on-Sea and East Ham formed part of the county but were unitary authorities. 12 boroughs and districts provide more localised services such as rubbish and recycling collections, leisure and planning, parish-level administration – changes A few Essex parishes have been transferred to other counties. Before 1889, small areas were transferred to Hertfordshire near Bishops Stortford, Essex became part of the East of England Government Office Region in 1994 and was statistically counted as part of that region from 1999, having previously been part of the South East England region. Two unitary authorities In 1998 the boroughs of Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock were granted autonomy from the county of Essex after successful requests to become unitary authorities. Essex Police covers the county and the two unitary authorities. The county council chamber and main headquarters is at the County Hall in Chelmsford, before 1938 the council regularly met in London near Moorgate, which with significant parts closer to that point and the dominance of railways had been more convenient than any place in the county. It currently has 75 elected councillors, before 1965, the number of councillors reached over 100. The highest point of the county of Essex is Chrishall Common near the village of Langley, close to the Hertfordshire border, the pattern of settlement in the county is diverse. Epping Forest also acts as a barrier to the further spread of London. Part of the southeast of the county, already containing the population centres of Basildon, Southend and Thurrock, is within the Thames Gateway

Kentwell Hall

Kentwell Hall is a stately home in Long Melford, Suffolk, England. It includes the hall, outbuildings, and a rare breeds farm, most of the current building facade dates from the mid-16th century, but the origins of Kentwell are much earlier, with references in the Domesday Book of 1086. Kentwell has been the location for numerous film and television productions. It also hosts Scaresville, an annual Halloween event which won the Best Seasonal or Halloween Event in 2009 at the UKs annual Screamie Awards, at that time, the manor was called by its old English name of Kanewella. There were thereon at that time 7 villeins, and afterwards, there was then, and subsequently,1 bordar, now there are 3. There were always 2 ploughs belonging to the demesne, there were then and afterwards 2 ploughs belonging to the Homagers of the manor, there now remains 1. There are 8 acres of mowing meadow, there has always been 1 horse at the Manor house. There were then 5 working oxen, there are now 8, at that time there were 30 swine, there are now 40. Then 80 sheep, now there are 50, at that time and subsequently, this manor was worth 40 shillings, it is now worth £4. Frodo is known to have left at least two sons, Alan and Gilbert, but the history of Kentwell is somewhat sparse for the next 300 years. Between the years 1252 and 1272, Kentwell Manor appears to have been granted by King Henry III to Sir William de Valence, who was killed in battle in France in 1296. Kentwell passed to his niece, who married David Strabolgie, Earl of Athol, in 1333 he in turn conveyed the manor to Sir Robert Gower and his heirs. Kentwell passed to Sir Robert Gowers daughter and afterwards, in 1368, to John Gower, poet, in 1373 Kentwell was acquired by Sir John Cobham and soon afterwards passed to the ownership of the Mylde family. Successive generations of Cloptons occupied Kentwell Hall from c1375 when Sir Thomas Clopton married Katherine Mylde, daughter of William Mylde of Clare, Suffolk, the estate, then named Lutons, is included in the will of this Sir Thomas Clopton, dated 8 March 1382. The Cloptons were a local family with some family members becoming distinguished nationally in the 15th and 16th centuries. The family is named in the Domesday Book of 1086 as feudatories of the Honor of Clare and various members of the de Clopton family appear in church, the Clopton family transformed the manor into its current recognisable form. Successive members of the remained at Kentwell until 1661, when the last resident Clopton died there. There are references in contemporary records to Lutons House, near to the Ponds in the Park, the Chapel of Saint Anne is depicted in maps of the Pond Plantation as late as the 19th century

Suffolk
–
Suffolk is an East Anglian county of historic origin in England. It has borders with Norfolk to the north, Cambridgeshire to the west, the North Sea lies to the east. The county town is Ipswich, other important towns include Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Felixstowe, the county is low-lying with very few hills, and is largely arable land with the wetlands of the Broads in the north. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, by the fifth century, the Angles had established control of the region. The Angles later became the folk and the south folk. Suffolk and several adjacent areas became the kingdom of East Anglia, Suffolk was originally divided into four separate Quarter Sessions divisions. In 1860, the number of divisions was reduced to two, the eastern division was administered from Ipswich and the western from Bury St Edmunds. Under the Local Government Act 1888, the two divisions were made the administrative counties of East Suffolk and West Suffolk, Ipswich became a county borough. A few Essex parishes were added to Suffolk, Ballingdon-with-Brundon and parts of Haverhill. On 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, East Suffolk, West Suffolk, the county was divided into several local government districts, Babergh, Forest Heath, Ipswich, Mid Suffolk, St. Edmundsbury, Suffolk Coastal, and Waveney. This act also transferred some land near Great Yarmouth to Norfolk, in 2007, the Department for Communities and Local Government referred Ipswich Borough Councils bid to become a new unitary authority to the Boundary Committee. The Boundary Committee consulted local bodies and reported in favour of the proposal and it was not, however, approved by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Beginning in February 2008, the Boundary Committee again reviewed local government in the county, West Suffolk, like nearby East Cambridgeshire, is renowned for archaeological finds from the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age. Bronze Age artefacts have been found in the area between Mildenhall and West Row, in Eriswell and in Lakenheath, other finds include traces of cremations and barrows. The majority of agriculture in Suffolk is either arable or mixed, Farm sizes vary from anything around 80 acres to over 8,000. Soil types vary from clays to light sands. The continuing importance of agriculture in the county is reflected in the Suffolk Show, although latterly somewhat changed in nature, this remains primarily an agricultural show. Pinewood Studios is a British film studio and television studio located approximately 20 miles west of central London, and 7 miles from Windsor. It is run by Pinewood Group, the studios have been the base for many productions over the years from big-budget films to television shows, commercials, and pop promos. It is well known as the home of the James Bond franchise, Pinewood Studios was built on the estate of Heatherden Hall, which was a large Victorian house. It was purchased by Canadian financier and MP for Brentford and Chiswick Lt. Col. Grant Morden, who added such as a ballroom, a Turkish bath. Due to its seclusion, it was used as a meeting place for high-ranking politicians and diplomats. On Mordens death in 1934, building tycoon Charles Boot bought the land, the ballroom was converted into a restaurant and many of the bedrooms became furnished suites. In 1935, millionaire Methodist and flour magnate J. Arthur Rank created a partnership with Boot, Boot based designs for the studio complex upon the latest ideas being employed by film studios in Hollywood, California. Boot named the new studio Pinewood because of the number of trees grow there. In December of that construction began, with a new stage completed every three weeks. The studios were finished nine months later, having cost £1 million, five stages were initially completed and a provision for an enclosed water tank capable of holding 65,000 gallons, which is still in use. On 30 September 1936, the complex was officially opened by Dr Leslie Burgin. The first film to be entirely at Pinewood was Talk of the Devil. There followed a period of Pinewood and British film history, with Pinewood following the studios adopting the unit system. This enabled several pictures to be filmed simultaneously, and ultimately Pinewood achieved the highest output of any studio in the world, the Crown Film Unit completed many classic wartime documentaries including Roy Boultings Academy Award winning Desert Victory. Fires Were Started, Coastal Command and Western Approaches were all filmed there during this period, as well as the armed forces using Pinewood, The Royal Mint and Lloyds of London were installed onto sound stages and opened for business for the duration. The Company of Youth, the Rank Organisation acting school which launched several careers, was founded in 1945. The next year, Pinewood re-opened for business, Two landmarks in British film-making made at Pinewood were released in 1948, Oliver Twist, directed by David Lean, and Powell and Pressburgers The Red Shoes. In 1948, John Davis was appointed managing director, by the following year, Rank had run up an overdraft of £16 million, and announced a loss of £3.5 million, mainly due to big budget flops

Cannes Film Festival

Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. On 1 July 2014, co-founder and former head of French pay-TV operator Canal+ Pierre Lescure took over as President of the festival, the Board of Directors also appointed Gilles Jacob as Honorary President of the festival. The 2016 Cannes Film Festival took place between 11 and 22 May 2016, australian film director George Miller was the President of the Jury. I, Daniel Blake, directed by British director Ken Loach, in 2017, The Festival de Cannes will celebrate its 70th anniversary edition from May 17 to 28. In 1947, the festival was held as the Festival du film de Cannes, at that time the principle of equality was introduced, with a jury made up of only one representative per country. The festival is now held at the Palais des Festivals, expressly constructed for the occasion, although for its 1949 inaugural the roof was unfinished, the festival was not held in 1948 and 1950 on account of budgetary problems. Although its origins may be attributed in part to the French desire to compete with Autumns Venice Film Festival, in 1955, the Palme dOr was created, replacing the Grand Prix du Festival which had been given until that year. In 1957, Dolores del Rio was the first female member of the jury as a Sélection officielle – Member, in 1959, the Marché du Film was founded, giving the festival a commercial character and facilitating exchanges between sellers and buyers in the film industry. Today it has become the first international platform for film commerce, in 1962, the International Critics Week was born, created by the French Union of Film Critics as the first parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival. Its goal was to showcase first and second works by directors all over the world. In 1965, an hommage was paid to Jean Cocteau after his death, the next year, Olivia de Havilland was named the first female president of the festival. The 1968 festival was halted on 19 May, some directors, such as Carlos Saura and Miloš Forman, had withdrawn their films from the competition. The filmmakers achieved the reinstatement of the President, and they founded the Film Directors Society that same year, during the 1970s, important changes occurred in the Festival. In 1972, Robert Favre Le Bret was named the new President and he immediately introduced an important change in the selection of the participating films. Until that date, the different countries chose which films would represent them in the festival, Bessy created one committee to select French films, and another for foreign films. In 1978, Gilles Jacob assumed the President position, introducing the Caméra dOr award, in 1983, a new, much bigger Palais des Festivals et des Congrès was built to host the Festival. It was nicknamed The Bunker and provoked many reactions against it, in 1984, Pierre Viot replaced Robert Favre Le Bret as President of the Festival. It was not until 1995 that Gilles Jacob created the last section of the Official Selection and its aim was to support the creation of works of cinema in the world and to contribute to the entry of the new scenario writers in the circle of the celebrities

Box Office Mojo is a website that tracks box office revenue in a systematic, algorithmic way, founded in 1999. In 2008, Box Office Mojo was bought by the Internet Movie Database, the website is widely used within the film industry as a source of data. From 2002–11, Box Office Mojo had forums popular with film fans, on October 10,2014, the websites URL was redirected to Amazons IMDB. com website for one day, but the website returned the following day without explanation. Brandon Gray began the site in 1999, in 2002, Gray partnered with Sean Saulsbury and grew the site to nearly two million readers. In July 2008, the company was purchased by Amazon. com through its subsidiary, Box Office Mojo had forums with more than 16,500 registered users. On November 2,2011 the forums were closed along with any user accounts. Tracking is still very closely to the day by day, actual tabulation of distributors. The site also creates an overall chart, combining all box office returns from around the world, excluding the United States. The overall weekend chart currently tracks the Top 40 films as well as approximately fifty additional films with no ranking, the site additionally has yearly and all time features for its various territories. Box Office Mojo was as of June 2009 reporting limited data from overseas and is work on improvements, most of the international charts have not been updated since November 2014. On October 10,2014, all traffic to Box Office Mojo was redirected to IMDbs box office page, queries about the closure to IMDb and Amazon representatives were met with no response. Neither Brandon Gray, who founded the website but left several years ago after its sale to Amazon, nor Ray Subers, on Ray Subers Twitter account, he revealed the websites return, but also stated he would not answer any questions pertaining to closure. The Daily Mail is a British daily middle-market tabloid newspaper owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust and published in London. Its sister paper The Mail on Sunday was launched in 1982, Scottish and Irish editions of the daily paper were launched in 1947 and 2006 respectively. A survey in 2014 found the age of its reader was 58. It had a daily circulation of 1,510,824 copies in November 2016. Its website has more than 100 million unique visitors per month, the Daily Mail has been accused of racism, and printing sensationalist and inaccurate scare stories of science and medical research. The Mail was originally a broadsheet but switched to a format on 3 May 1971. On this date it absorbed the Daily Sketch, which had been published as a tabloid by the same company. The publisher of the Mail, the Daily Mail and General Trust, is currently a FTSE250 company, the paper has a circulation of around two million, which is the fourth largest circulation of any English-language daily newspaper in the world. Circulation figures according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations in March 2014 show gross daily sales of 1,708,006 for the Daily Mail. According to a December 2004 survey, 53% of Daily Mail readers voted for the Conservative Party, compared to 21% for Labour, the main concern of Viscount Rothermere, the current chairman and main shareholder, is that the circulation be maintained. The Mail has been edited by Paul Dacre since 1992, the Daily Mail, devised by Alfred Harmsworth and his brother Harold, was first published on 4 May 1896. It cost a halfpenny at a time when other London dailies cost one penny, and was more populist in tone and more concise in its coverage than its rivals. The planned issue was 100,000 copies but the print run on the first day was 397,215, Lord Salisbury, 19th-century Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, dismissed the Daily Mail as a newspaper produced by office boys for office boys. By 1902, at the end of the Boer Wars, the circulation was over a million, from the beginning, the Mail also set out to entertain its readers with human interest stories, serials, features and competitions. In 1900 the Daily Mail began printing simultaneously in both Manchester and London, the first national newspaper to do so, the same production method was adopted in 1909 by the Daily Sketch, in 1927 by the Daily Express and eventually by virtually all the other national newspapers. Headquartered in Los Angeles, THR is part of the Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, a group of properties that includes Billboard and SpinMedia. It is owned by Eldridge Industries, a company owned by an executive of its previous owner. Under Janice Min, a faltering THR was relaunched in 2010 as a weekly print magazine with a revamped, continuously updated website, as well as mobile. THR was founded in 1930 by William R, billy Wilkerson as Hollywoods first daily entertainment trade newspaper. The first edition appeared on September 3,1930, and featured Wilkersons front-page Tradeviews column, the newspaper appeared Monday to Saturday for the first 10 years, except for a brief period, then Monday to Friday from 1940. Wilkerson ran the THR until his death in September 1962, although his final column appeared 18 months prior, from the late 1930s, Wilkerson used THR to push the view that the industry was a communist stronghold. In particular, he opposed the screenplay writers trade union, the Screen Writers Guild, in 1946 the Guild considered creating an American Authors Authority to hold copyright for writers, instead of ownership passing to the studios. Wilkerson devoted his Tradeviews column to the issue on July 29,1946 and he went to confession before publishing it, knowing the damage it would cause, but was apparently encouraged by the priest to go ahead with it. The column contained the first industry names, including Dalton Trumbo and Howard Koch, on became the Hollywood blacklist. Eight of the 11 people Wilkerson named were among the Hollywood Ten who were blacklisted after hearings in 1947 by the House Un-American Activities Committee. In 1997 THR reporter David Robb wrote a story about the newspapers involvement, for the blacklists 65th anniversary in 2012, the THR published a lengthy investigative piece about Wilkersons role, by reporters Gary Baum and Daniel Miller. The same edition carried an apology from Wilkersons son, W. R. Wilkerson III and he wrote that his father had been motivated by revenge for his thwarted ambition to own a studio. Wilkersons wife, Tichi Wilkerson Kassel, took over as publisher and she sold the paper on April 11,1988, to Affiliated Publications, parent company of Billboard Publications, for $26.7 million. Robert J. Dowling became THR president in 1988 and editor-in-chief, Dowling brought in Alex Ben Block as editor in 1990, and editorial quality of both news and specials steadily improved. Block and Teri Ritzer dampened much of the coverage and cronyism that had infected the paper under Wilkerson. After Block left, former editor at Variety, Anita Busch, was brought in as editor between 1999 and 2001. Busch was credited with making the paper competitive with Variety, tony Uphoff assumed the publisher position in November 2005. Rolling Stone is an American biweekly magazine that focuses on popular culture. It was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner, who is still the publisher. It was first known for its coverage and for political reporting by Hunter S. Thompson. In the 1990s, the magazine shifted focus to a readership interested in youth-oriented television shows, film actors. In recent years, it has resumed its traditional mix of content, Rolling Stone magazine was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner and Ralph Gleason. To get it off the ground, Wenner borrowed $7,500 from his own family and from the parents of his soon-to-be wife, Jane Schindelheim. The first issue carried a date of November 9,1967. It was at point that the magazine ran some of its most famous stories. One interviewer, speaking for a number of his peers, said that he bought his first copy of the magazine upon initial arrival on his college campus. Anne secretly marries the nobleman Henry Percy, although he is betrothed to Lady Mary Talbot, Anne confides in her brother George Boleyn, who is overjoyed and proceeds to tell Mary. Fearing Anne will ruin the Boleyn family by marrying such a prominent earl without the consent, Mary alerts her father. They confront Anne, annul the marriage, and exile her to France and her family receives new grants and estates, their debts are paid, and Henry arranges Georges marriage to Jane Parker. When Mary nearly suffers a miscarriage, she is confined to bed until her child is born, Norfolk recalls Anne to England to keep Henrys attention from wandering to another rival. In her belief that Mary exiled her to increase her own status, Henry then has Mary sent to the country at Annes request. Anne encourages Henry to break from the Catholic Church when the Pope refuses to annul his marriage to Queen Catherine, Henry succumbs to Annes demands, declares himself Supreme Head of the Church of England, and gets Cardinal Thomas Wolsey to annul the marriage. The First Grader is a 2010 biographical drama film directed by Justin Chadwick. It stars Naomie Harris, Oliver Litondo, and Tony Kgoroge, in 2003, a disc jockey announces over a Kenyan radio station that the government is offering free primary school education to all natives who can prove citizenship with a birth certificate. Kimani Maruge, an 84-year-old villager, hears this and decides to take it himself to seek an education. Arriving at his school, he meets Jane Obinchu, the principal. He expresses his desire to learn how to read and her teaching colleague Alfred, ridicules him and demands he leave. Later, Jane informs her husband Charles about Maruge and he discourages her in supporting his educational endeavor. After beginning his initial classes, Maruge is plagued by memories of his service during the Mau Mau Uprising against the British in the 1950s and he begins to hallucinate and becomes confrontational with the students, struggling to continue his academics. Controversy begins to stir over Maruge’s education, soon enough, the story that an elderly man going to school becomes national headlines. Mr. Kipruto, a superintendent of the district, is alerted to the situation and strongly disapproves of Maruges predicament. Meeting with the head of the board to plead Maruge’s case. It is explained to her if a exception is made to keep Maruge in the school, others will follow. Maruge is forced to attend a learning centre, where he soon finds himself surrounded by people with no motivation or ambition to study. Maruge vows to never go back to the adult institution, Jane later decides to offer him a reprieve, to work as her teaching assistant. As Maruges story gains publicity and attention, the local press descend on the school, the villagers believe Jane and Maruge are seeking fame and fortune at the expense of the children. Following negative feedback and random acts of violence against the school, Jane reveals to Maruge that she is relocating, and then commences an emotional goodbye with the children. Following protests and disobedience on part of the students towards their new teacher, Jane is reinstated at the school, where Maruge and the children are there to welcome her. The films epilogue displays a series of graphics stating that at age 84, supplementally, he was invited to make a speech before international leaders at the UN in New York regarding the power of education. Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom is a 2013 British-South African biographical film directed by Justin Chadwick from a script written by William Nicholson and starring Idris Elba and Naomie Harris. The film is based on the 1995 autobiographical book Long Walk to Freedom by anti-apartheid revolutionary, W. de Klerk Zenzo Ngqobe as Patrick Lekota Carl Beukes as Niel Barnard A. J. Following the publication of Mandelas autobiography, Singh was granted the rights to the film adaptation, the film is directed by Justin Chadwick. For the film, U2 wrote the song Ordinary Love, subscribers of the bands official website were able to hear a short snippet first. The film held its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September 2013. It was released on 28 November 2013 in South Africa and on 3 January 2014 in the United Kingdom, a week before, William made brief comments to the press while exiting the theatre, stating that I just wanted to say its extremely sad and tragic news. We were just reminded what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now. The film was pulled from theatres in South Africa the next day out of respect. On the 8th of December to mark the launch of the film a Gala dinner, private screening and charity auction in aid of the childrens charity Onetoonechildrensfund. Sir Trevor McDonald was Master of Ceremonies for the evening, introducing the auction where one of an edition of 6 portrait heads of Nelson Mandela. The head was donated by the sculptor and sold in aid of the work in South Africa. Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom received mixed to positive reviews, at Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the film received an average score of 60 based on 32 reviews, indicating mixed or average reviews. Scott Foundas of Variety said the film never opts for a touch when a sledgehammer will do, but also praises Elba for a towering performance. But the talent of the lead actors lends it heft, particularly the commanding performance of Idris Elba as Mandela, jordan Hoffman from Film. com also gave the film a mixed to negative review, Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom should have been a layup. A slow burn leading to eventual triumph, moving speeches, Idris Elba raging against injustice, but as crazy and offensive as it may sound, youll get more chills from Elbas idiotic speech about canceling the apocalypse in Pacific Rim than you will in this by-the-numbers bore. However, Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave the film a positive review with 2. They were so exhausted feeling guilty about slavery that I dont think there was left over to be nice about our film. We were deluged with Mandela stuff and after a week we all thought, please, take it away, or, at least, what he wanted to let us know

Tulip mania or tulipomania was a period in the Dutch Golden Age during which contract prices for bulbs of the recently introduced tulip reached extraordinarily high levels and then suddenly collapsed. At the peak of tulip mania, in March 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the income of a skilled craftsman. The term tulip mania is now often used metaphorically to refer to any large economic bubble when asset prices deviate from intrinsic values, the 1637 event was popularized in 1841 by the book Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, written by British journalist Charles Mackay. According to Mackay, at one point 12 acres of land were offered for a Semper Augustus bulb, Mackay claims that many such investors were ruined by the fall in prices, and Dutch commerce suffered a severe shock. Although Mackays book is a classic, his account is contested, many modern scholars feel that the mania was not as extraordinary as Mackay described and argue that not enough price data are available to prove that a tulip bulb bubble actually occurred. Research is difficult because of the economic data from the 1630s—much of which come from biased. Some modern economists have proposed rational explanations, rather than a speculative mania, for the rise, for example, other flowers, such as the hyacinth, also had high initial prices at the time of their introduction, which immediately fell. The high asset prices may also have driven by expectations of a parliamentary decree that contracts could be voided for a small cost—thus lowering the risk to buyers. Tulip bulbs were soon distributed from Vienna to Augsburg, Antwerp and he planted his collection of tulip bulbs and found they were able to tolerate the harsher conditions of the Low Countries, shortly thereafter the tulip began to grow in popularity. The tulip was different from other flower known to Europe at that time. The appearance of the tulip as a status symbol at this time coincides with the rise of newly independent Hollands trade fortunes. No longer the Spanish Netherlands, its resources could now be channeled into commerce. Amsterdam merchants were at the center of the lucrative East Indies trade, as a result, tulips rapidly became a coveted luxury item, and a profusion of varieties followed. They were classified in groups, the tulips of red, yellow, or white were known as Couleren, the multicolored Rosen, Violetten, and the rarest of all. The multicolor effects of intricate lines and flame-like streaks on the petals were vivid and spectacular, growers named their new varieties with exalted titles. Many early forms were prefixed Admirael, often combined with the growers names, generael was another prefix used for around thirty varieties. Later varieties were given even more extravagant names, derived from Alexander the Great or Scipio, or even Admiral of Admirals, however, naming could be haphazard and varieties highly variable in quality.
