In music, a single or record single is a type of release, typically a song recording of fewer tracks than an LP record, an album or an EP record. This can be released for sale to the public in a variety of different formats, in most cases, a single is a song that is released separately from an album, although it usually also appears on an album. Typically, these are the songs from albums that are released separately for promotional uses such as digital download or commercial radio airplay and are expected to be the most popular, in other cases a recording released as a single may not appear on an album. As digital downloading and audio streaming have become prevalent, it is often possible for every track on an album to also be available separately. Nevertheless, the concept of a single for an album has been retained as an identification of a heavily promoted or more popular song within an album collection. Despite being referred to as a single, singles can include up to as many as three tracks on them. The biggest digital music distributor, iTunes, accepts as many as three tracks less than ten minutes each as a single, as well as popular music player Spotify also following in this trend. Any more than three tracks on a release or longer than thirty minutes in total running time is either an Extended Play or if over six tracks long. The basic specifications of the single were made in the late 19th century. Gramophone discs were manufactured with a range of speeds and in several sizes. By about 1910, however, the 10-inch,78 rpm shellac disc had become the most commonly used format, the inherent technical limitations of the gramophone disc defined the standard format for commercial recordings in the early 20th century.26 rpm. The 7-inch 45 rpm record was released 31 March 1949 by RCA Victor as a smaller, more durable, the first 45 rpm records were monaural, with recordings on both sides of the disc. As stereo recordings became popular in the 1960s, almost all 45 rpm records were produced in stereo by the early 1970s

R5 is an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2009. The band consists of lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch, Riker Lynch, Rocky Lynch, Rydel Lynch, since releasing their debut album, Louder, on September 24,2013, which peaked at #24 on the Billboard 200, they have toured across five continents. Their sophomore album, Sometime Last Night, was released on July 10,2015, and debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 in the US and they have also released four EPs, ten singles, and a live DVD. About a year meeting, they asked Ratliff to join the band. While living in Colorado, the Lynch children went to an arts school. They used to put on shows for their family and charged them at least a dollar to watch them perform in their basement, at age 16, Riker decided he wanted to move to L. A. to pursue an acting career. Their parents, Mark and Stormie, moved the family there in order to stay together. Shortly after the move, the siblings began appearing in commercials, while Rocky began teaching himself, Ross, in 2009, R5 officiated the band and debuted their YouTube web series, R5 TV, documenting the bands day-to-day life and career beginning. On September 5, they released their first music video, Without You, no official single was released from EP. On September 4 they released a video for Cant Get Enough of You and, in the next mouth. On July 26,2011, the released their debut promotional single. The music video was released on August 3, in April 2012, the band members announced via their website that they had signed a record deal with Hollywood Records, and that they were planning for their first mini-tour in May. They collaborated on charity single Make Some Noise for Family Channels Stand Up philanthropic campaign and their debut tour, West Coast Tour, started on May 3,2012 and traveled only to west coast. The second tour, East Coast Tour started on December 15, in Jamestown, New York and they also held three special concerts, entitled 3M Tour, at Madison on November 18,2012, Milwaukee on November 19 and Minneapolis on November 20. On February 19,2013, they released the four-song EP Loud, One of the songs on the EP, Here Comes Forever, was written by Riker, Rocky and Ross. The R5s debut single, Loud, was released on February 13, the song peaked at number 72 in Japan and 199 in United Kingdom. On August 16,2013, Pass Me By, the single from their debut album Louder, was released. Louder was released on September 24,2013, and climbed its way to number 2 on the iTunes charts, being classified as a chart-topper on the iTunes End of the Year Album list

Louder is the debut studio album by American pop rock band R5, which was released on September 24,2013 by Hollywood Records. Louder was also released as an edition, with four extra tracks only available for digital download. As of October 2014, Louder has sold 150,000 physical copies in the US and we wanted to put out a fun album, says Rydel Lynch and Ratliff said We wanted to make an upbeat and inspirational album you want to play 24/7. Louder is mainly a pop and pop rock record, the album discusses themes such as love, youth and freedom. A deluxe version was sold at Target including the song Wishing I Was 23 produced by Rocky Lynch, a ZinePak exclusively sold at Justice included stickers. A deluxe edition of the album was released in Japan in November, the album debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 24 selling 15,000 copies in first week. Louder received mixed reviews from critics, allMusics Tim Sendra praised Louder as a strong, uncluttered and fun modern pop confection. Also, he praised Rydel, who has a feature in Love Me Like That. Musichel called Louder R5s impressive grand entrance into the world of pop music, also adding that R5s future is set for the sky, xinhua of Spin or Bin says the albums lacks of charisma but praised Ross, Rikers and Rockys vocal abilities. Paul Lim, from Singaporean newspaper Today, called the album immature, repetitive and he also compared Louder with Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. He concluded saying that the band was a joke, megan Phelan from Mountain Weekly News said, there is not much to differentiate the bands sound from other trendy pop acts. However, she gave the extra credit for playing their instruments. Loud was previously released as the single from double releases, the EP Loud EP. It was released on February 19,2013, the second single was Pass Me By, released on August 20,2013. On December 25,2013, the band released Forget About You as the third single, one Last Dance was released as the fourth and final single on May 30,2014. All singles were accompanied by their music video. Power pop

Power pop is a pop rock music subgenre that draws its inspiration from 1960s British and American rock music. It typically incorporates a combination of devices such as strong melodies, clear vocals and crisp vocal harmonies, economical arrangements. Instrumental solos are usually kept to a minimum, and blues elements are largely downplayed, in the 1980s and 1990s, power pop continued as a commercially modest genre but by the mid-1990s through the 2000s, power pop was mainly in the underground. While its cultural impact has waxed and waned over the decades, Power pop is a more aggressive form of pop rock that is based on catchy, melodic hooks and energetic moods. The Small Faces are often cited as being among the progenitors of power pop, the Whos role in the creation of power pop has been cited by singer-songwriter Eric Carmen of the Raspberries, who has said, Pete Townshend coined the phrase to define what the Who did. For some reason, it didnt stick to the Who, but it did stick to these groups came out in the 70s that played kind of melodic songs with crunchy guitars. It just kind of stuck to us like glue, and that was okay with us because the Who were among our highest role models, other acts such as the Knickerbockers, the Easybeats and the Outsiders contributed iconic singles. Writer John Borack has noted, Its also quite easy to draw a line from garage rock to power pop. Although the formative influences on the genre were primarily British, the bands that developed and codified power pop in the 1970s were nearly all American. The Raspberries 1972 hit single Go All The Way is an almost perfect embodiment of the elements of power pop, the most influential group of the period may have been Big Star. The Replacements even recorded a song entitled Alex Chilton in honor of Big Stars frontman, spurred on by the emergence of punk rock and new wave, power pop enjoyed a prolific and commercially successful period in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Although coined in the 1960s, and used as early as 1973 in reference to Sweet, as the novelist Michael Chabon has written, Power pop in its essential form. Did not come into existence for a number of years after it was first identified, like so much of the greatest work turned out by popular artists of the 1970s, true power pop is quintessential second-generation stuff. The term was used in reference to critics favorites Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. Los Angeles-based Bomp. magazine championed power pop in its March 1978 issue, tying the genres roots to 1960s groups like the Who, like their punk brethren, late–1970s power pop groups favored a leaner and punchier sound than their early–1970s predecessors. Some occasionally incorporated synthesizers into their music, though not to the degree as did their new wave counterparts. Representative singles from the period include releases from the Bomp, records label by 20/20, Shoes and the Romantics. Major label groups like Cheap Trick, the Cars and Blondie merged power pop influences with other styles and achieved their first mainstream success with albums released in 1978

Hollywood Records, Inc. is an American record label of the Disney Music Group. The label focuses in pop, rock, alternative, hip hop, the label also releases Marvel Studioss soundtrack and compilation albums in conjunction with Marvel Music. At the time, the company was limited to the release of soundtracks from Touchstone, lawyer Peter Paterno was the first president of the label, until his resignation in 1993 because of the divisions lackluster sales. In 1997, Disney acquired Mammoth Records, in order to get a record label that could succeed. However, the acquisition of Mammoth was a failure and the label was closed and integrated to Hollywood in 2003. In 1998, the decided to form Buena Vista Music Group, integrating the operations of Walt Disney Records along with Hollywood, Lyric Street, Mammoth. Bob Cavallo, former manager of Earth, Wind & Fire and Prince was appointed as chairman of the group and this movement looked to organize the music operations of the company under a more integrated direction. The launch of Duffs career represents a new model for the record, utilising the synergies around the company, including important outlets like Disney Channel, Radio Disney. Duffs albums released under Hollywood proved to be successful including 2004s Hilary Duff. Their musical careers proved that the label had become a success, the label also continued to release soundtracks from films and TV shows, mainly those derived from Marvel Studios productions. In 2010, Hollywood absorbed the operations of country music label Lyric Street Records. In 2011, Queen left EMI for Universal-owned Island Records, with Hollywood continuing to remain the groups North American music distributor. In January 2012, after 14 years of a successful tenure, Bob Cavallo retired as chairman of the Group, since 2013, Hollywood Records also uses the brand name DMG Nashville to specialize in country music. The genre label was founded to provide music licensing for Bigger Picture Music Group, after Bigger Pictures closure in 2014, DMG Nashville released its first studio album, Lucy Hales Road Between. Hollywood Basic was Hollywood’s short-lived hip-hop subsidiary, run by Dave Funkenklein and it also released Shadows Legitimate Mix on the B-side of a single by the group Zimbabwe Legit in 1992. Although the BASIC Beats Sampler confirmed its release date for April 1992, other notable releases came from Organized Konfusion, its challenging second album, Stress, The Extinction Agenda, was widely acclaimed. The label was home of Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf, although, following the shooting death of Charizma in 1993. This would later inspire Peanut Butter Wolf to found Stones Throw Records in order to make this music available, acts on Hollywood BASICs roster included Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf, Lifers Group, Organized Konfusion, Raw Fusion, Hi-C, and Zimbabwe Legit

A songwriter is an individual who writes the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions for songs, typically for a popular music genre such as rock or country music. A songwriter can also be called a composer, although the term tends to be used mainly for individuals from the classical music genre. The pressure from the industry to produce popular hits means that songwriting is often an activity for which the tasks are distributed between a number of people. For example, a songwriter who excels at writing lyrics might be paired with a songwriter with a gift for creating original melodies, pop songs may be written by group members from the band or by staff writers – songwriters directly employed by music publishers. Some songwriters serve as their own publishers, while others have outside publishers. The old-style apprenticeship approach to learning how to write songs is being supplemented by university degrees and college diplomas, a knowledge of modern music technology, songwriting elements and business skills are necessary requirements to make a songwriting career in the 2010s. Several music colleges offer songwriting diplomas and degrees with music business modules, the legal power to grant these permissions may be bought, sold or transferred. This is governed by international copyright law, song pitching can be done on a songwriters behalf by their publisher or independently using tip sheets like RowFax, the MusicRow publication and SongQuarters. Skills associated with song-writing include entrepreneurism and creativity, songwriters who sign an exclusive songwriting agreement with a publisher are called staff writers. In the Nashville country music scene, there is a staff writer culture where contracted writers work normal 9-to-5 hours at the publishing office and are paid a regular salary. This salary is in effect the writers draw, an advance on future earnings, the publisher owns the copyright of songs written during the term of the agreement for a designated period, after which the songwriter can reclaim the copyright. In an interview with HitQuarters, songwriter Dave Berg extolled the benefits of the set-up, unlike contracted writers, some staff writers operate as employees for their respective publishers. Under the terms of work for hire agreements, the compositions created are fully owned by the publisher. In Nashville, young writers are often encouraged to avoid these types of contracts. Staff writers are common across the industry, but without the more office-like working arrangements favored in Nashville. All the major publishers employ writers under contract, songwriter Allan Eshuijs described his staff writer contract at Universal Music Publishing as a starter deal. His success under the arrangement eventually allowed him to found his own publishing company, so that he could. keep as much as possible, songwriters are also often skilled musicians.
