Altice USA is the successor to Cablevision Systems Corporation, founded by Charles Dolan. On September 17,2015, Netherlands-based Altice NV announced its intention to acquire Cablevision from the Dolan family for $17.7 billion. Under the terms of the deal, Altice paid $34.90 in cash for each share in Cablevision, the Cablevision name has been retired, and the company is now known as Altice USA, with Optimum remaining the customer facing brand of the company. Static IP is also available for business customers, Optimum Voice is a Voice over IP telephone service provided by Cablevision for its Optimum Online customers. New customers must have Optimum Online first before using Optimum Voice, Optimum Voice is not currently available in the Pennsylvania portion of Cablevisions footprint. SIP trunking is also available for business customers, Optimum TV, formerly iO digital cable, is a digital cable service offered by Altice USA, available in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and parts of Pennsylvania. It includes 130 HDTV channels, interactive channels, such as games, and channels that allow viewers to browse listings of autos and homes for sale in the area, HD channels are free with Optimum TV to customers who subscribe to the service package that includes the SD channel. Additionally, Optimum TV comes with 46 channels of Music Choice music channels, Optimum TV also offers single-room DVR and multi-room cloud DVR for an additional cost. It was the first American company to offer BBC World News, for years, Cablevision was one of the few providers not carrying BBC America until they finally added the channel on August 25,2011. On July 29,2008, Cablevision acquired Newsday and amNewYork in a deal worth $650m and he ended up selling both the cable system and HBO to Time Life Inc. He used the money to start a new system in suburban Long Island called Cablevision. Cablevision quickly expanded and built throughout the New York metro area, the other boroughs of New York City, New Jersey, Westchester County. In the 1980s, Cablevision also expanded into the Chicago, Boston, by the mid-1990s Cablevision would offer service to 2.9 million subscribers in 19 states. Through a series of transactions in the late 1990s, Cablevision decided to consolidate their cable systems into three areas, New York, Cleveland, and Boston. Despite reducing the number of areas served they were able to bring the number of subscribers to 3.5 million through these transactions, one major transaction made at this time was with Tele-Communications Inc. Cablevision gained 10 New York area cable systems from TCI and in exchange TCI gained 33% ownership in the company, in 1999, AT&T Corporation took over TCI thus giving them the one-third ownership in Cablevision. In 2000, Cablevision sold-off its remaining systems outside of the New York area in Boston, Cleveland, and Kalamazoo, Michigan to MediaOne, Adelphia, AT&T sold its share of Cablevision in 2001. On June 13,2010, Cablevision announced that it would acquire Bresnan Communications for $1.37 billion, Bresnan provides service to about 308,000 cable subscribers in Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming

Ticker symbol

A ticker symbol or stock symbol is an abbreviation used to uniquely identify publicly traded shares of a particular stock on a particular stock market. A stock symbol may consist of letters, numbers or a combination of both, ticker symbol refers to the symbols that were printed on the ticker tape of a ticker tape machine. Stock symbols are unique identifiers assigned to each security traded on a particular market, for example, AAPL is for Apple Inc. OODH is for Orion DHC, Inc. and HD is for Home Depot, a stock symbol can consist of letters, numbers, or a combination of both, and is a way to uniquely identify that stock. The symbols were kept as short as possible to reduce the number of characters that had to be printed on the ticker tape, the allocation of symbols and formatting convention is specific to each stock exchange. In the US, for example, stock tickers are typically between 1 and 4 letters and represent the name where possible. In Europe, most exchanges use three-letter codes, for example Dutch consumer goods company Unilever traded on the Amsterdam Euronext exchange has the symbol UNA, while in Asia, numbers are often used as stock tickers to avoid issues for international investors when using non-Latin scripts. For example, the bank HSBCs stock traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange has the ticker symbol 0005, symbols sometimes change to reflect mergers. Prior to the 1999 merger with Mobil Oil, Exxon used a spelling of the company XON as its ticker symbol. The symbol of the firm after the merger was XOM, symbols are sometimes reused, in the US the single-letter symbols are particularly sought after as vanity symbols. For example, since Mar 2008 Visa Inc. has used the symbol V that had previously used by Vivendi which had delisted. To fully qualify a stock, both the ticker and the exchange or country of listing needs to be known, on many systems both must be specified to uniquely identify the security. This is often done by appending the location or exchange code to the ticker, although stock tickers identify a security, they are exchange dependent, generally limited to stocks and can change. These limitations have led to the development of other codes in financial markets to identify securities for settlement purposes, the most prevalent of these is the International Securities Identifying Number. An ISIN uniquely identifies a security and its structure is defined in ISO6166, Securities for which ISINs are issued include bonds, commercial paper, stocks, and warrants. The ISIN identifies the security, not the exchange on which it trades, for instance, Daimler AG stock trades on twenty-two different stock exchanges worldwide, and is priced in five different currencies, it has the same ISIN on each, though not the same ticker symbol. ISIN cannot specify a particular trade in this case, and another identifier, following the introduction of the Sequence trading platform in 1996, EPICs were renamed Tradable Instrument Display Mnemonics, but they are still widely referred to as EPICs. Stocks can also be identified using their SEDOL number or their ISIN, in the United States, modern letter-only ticker symbols were developed by Standard & Poors to bring a national standard to investing

The New York Stock Exchange, is an American stock exchange located at 11 Wall Street, Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York. It is by far the worlds largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its companies at US$19.3 trillion as of June 2016. The average daily trading value was approximately US$169 billion in 2013, the NYSE trading floor is located at 11 Wall Street and is composed of 21 rooms used for the facilitation of trading. A fifth trading room, located at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007, the main building and the 11 Wall Street building were designated National Historic Landmarks in 1978. The NYSE is owned by Intercontinental Exchange, an American holding company that it also lists, previously, it was part of NYSE Euronext, which was formed by the NYSEs 2007 merger with Euronext. NYSE and Euronext now operate as divisions of Intercontinental Exchange, the NYSE has been the subject of several lawsuits regarding fraud or breach of duty and in 2004 was sued by its former CEO for breach of contract and defamation. The earliest recorded organization of securities trading in New York among brokers directly dealing with each other can be traced to the Buttonwood Agreement, previously securities exchange had been intermediated by the auctioneers who also conducted more mundane auctions of commodities such as wheat and tobacco. In 1817 the stockbrokers of New York operating under the Buttonwood Agreement instituted new reforms, after sending a delegation to Philadelphia to observe the organization of their board of brokers, restrictions on manipulative trading were adopted as well as formal organs of governance. Several locations were used between 1817 and 1865, when the present location was adopted, the invention of the electrical telegraph consolidated markets, and New Yorks market rose to dominance over Philadelphia after weathering some market panics better than other alternatives. The Civil War greatly stimulated speculative securities trading in New York, by 1869 membership had to be capped, and has been sporadically increased since. The latter half of the century saw rapid growth in securities trading. Securities trade in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was prone to panics. The Stock Exchange Luncheon Club was situated on the floor from 1898 until its closure in 2006. The main building, located at 18 Broad Street, between the corners of Wall Street and Exchange Place, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, as was the 11 Wall Street building. The NYSE announced its plans to merge with Archipelago on April 21,2005, NYSEs governing board voted to merge with rival Archipelago on December 6,2005, and became a for-profit, public company. It began trading under the name NYSE Group on March 8,2006, Wall Street is the leading US money center for international financial activities and the foremost US location for the conduct of wholesale financial services. Telecommunication is the transmission of signs, signals, messages, writings, images and sounds or intelligence of any nature by wire, radio, optical or other electromagnetic systems. Telecommunication occurs when the exchange of information between communication participants includes the use of technology and it is transmitted either electrically over physical media, such as cables, or via electromagnetic radiation. Such transmission paths are divided into communication channels which afford the advantages of multiplexing. The term is used in its plural form, telecommunications. Early means of communicating over a distance included visual signals, such as beacons, smoke signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal flags, other examples of pre-modern long-distance communication included audio messages such as coded drumbeats, lung-blown horns, and loud whistles. Zworykin, John Logie Baird and Philo Farnsworth, the word telecommunication is a compound of the Greek prefix tele, meaning distant, far off, or afar, and the Latin communicare, meaning to share. Its modern use is adapted from the French, because its use was recorded in 1904 by the French engineer. Communication was first used as an English word in the late 14th century, in the Middle Ages, chains of beacons were commonly used on hilltops as a means of relaying a signal. Beacon chains suffered the drawback that they could pass a single bit of information. One notable instance of their use was during the Spanish Armada, in 1792, Claude Chappe, a French engineer, built the first fixed visual telegraphy system between Lille and Paris. However semaphore suffered from the need for skilled operators and expensive towers at intervals of ten to thirty kilometres, as a result of competition from the electrical telegraph, the last commercial line was abandoned in 1880. Homing pigeons have occasionally used throughout history by different cultures. Pigeon post is thought to have Persians roots and was used by the Romans to aid their military, frontinus said that Julius Caesar used pigeons as messengers in his conquest of Gaul. The Greeks also conveyed the names of the victors at the Olympic Games to various cities using homing pigeons, in the early 19th century, the Dutch government used the system in Java and Sumatra. And in 1849, Paul Julius Reuter started a service to fly stock prices between Aachen and Brussels, a service that operated for a year until the gap in the telegraph link was closed. Sir Charles Wheatstone and Sir William Fothergill Cooke invented the telegraph in 1837. Also, the first commercial electrical telegraph is purported to have constructed by Wheatstone and Cooke. Both inventors viewed their device as an improvement to the electromagnetic telegraph not as a new device, samuel Morse independently developed a version of the electrical telegraph that he unsuccessfully demonstrated on 2 September 1837

The mass media is a diversified collection of media technologies that reach a large audience via mass communication. The technologies through which communication takes place include a variety of outlets. Broadcast media transmit information electronically, via such media as film, radio, recorded music, digital media comprises both Internet and mobile mass communication. Internet media comprise such services as email, social sites, websites. Print media transmit information via physical objects, such as books, comics, magazines, newspapers, event organizing and public speaking can also be considered forms of mass media. The organizations that control these technologies, such as studios, publishing companies. In the late 20th century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries, books, the Internet, magazines, movies, newspapers, radio, recordings, and television. The explosion of digital technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries made prominent the question. For example, it is whether to include cell phones, computer games. In the 2000s, a called the seven mass media became popular. For example, the Internet includes blogs, podcasts, web sites, the sixth and seventh media, Internet and mobile phones, are often referred to collectively as digital media, and the fourth and fifth, radio and TV, as broadcast media. Some argue that video games have developed into a mass form of media. While a telephone is a communication device, mass media communicates to a large group. A question arises whether this makes cell phones a mass medium or simply a device used to access a mass medium. There is currently a system by which marketers and advertisers are able to tap into satellites and this transmission of mass advertising to millions of people is another form of mass communication. Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium, video games provide a common gaming experience to millions of users across the globe and convey the same messages and ideologies to all their users. Users sometimes share the experience with one another by playing online, excluding the Internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games are sharing a common experience when they play the game individually

Bethpage, New York

The CDPs population was 16,429 at the 2010 United States Census. The area is served by the Bethpage Post Office, ZIP code 11714, the area is also served by the Bethpage Union Free School District, the boundaries of which include parts of some surrounding hamlets, including parts of Old Bethpage, Plainview, and Plainedge. The Town of Hempstead, on its website, includes a part of Bethpage hamlet that is in the Levittown census-designated place. The name Bethpage comes from the Quaker Thomas Powell, who named the area after the Biblical town Bethphage, present-day Bethpage was part of the 1695 Bethpage Purchase. An early name for the section of present-day Bethpage was Bedelltown. In 1841, train service began to Farmingdale station, near a new settlement less than a mile eastward from what had appeared on maps as Bethpage. Schedules at that time do not mention Bethpage as a stop, on an 1855 map, the location identified as Bethpage has shifted slightly westward to include a nearby area now called Plainedge. LIRR schedules listed the station also as simply Jerusalem, residents succeeded in changing the name of the post office to Central Park, effective March 1,1867. The Central Park Fire Company was organized in April 1910, in May 1923 the Central Park Water District was created. Following the 1932 opening of nearby Bethpage State Park, the name of the local post office was changed to Bethpage on October 1,1936. The name Bethpage was, however, already in use by an adjacent community, the change from Central Park to Bethpage was one of the last complete name changes of Nassau Countys post offices. In 1994, Grumman was purchased by Northrop and formed Northrop Grumman, although no longer headquartered in Bethpage, the company still retains operations there. The Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, Bethpage started operations in 1942, Cablevision Systems Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is headquartered in Grummans former main office. In August 2015, an airplane with engine trouble failed to reach Farmingdale airport. However, the pilot could not find that airport because it was closed and had buildings on it, according to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.6 square miles, all land. For the 2000 Census, the boundaries of the CDP were adjusted compared to those of the 1990 census, with some territory gained, Bethpage is surrounded by Farmingdale, Plainview, Levittown, Hicksville, Old Bethpage and Plainedge. Although the majority of the hamlet of Plainedge is Bethpage, it also borders Seaford, North Massapequa. As of the census of 2010, there were 16,429 people,5,710 households, the population density was 4,564.5 per square mile

This contrasts with broadcast television, in which the television signal is transmitted over the air by radio waves and received by a television antenna attached to the television. FM radio programming, high-speed Internet, telephone services, and similar non-television services may also be provided through these cables, analog television was standard in the 20th century, but since the 2000s, cable systems have been upgraded to digital cable operation. A cable channel is a television network available via cable television, alternative terms include non-broadcast channel or programming service, the latter being mainly used in legal contexts. Examples of cable/satellite channels/cable networks available in many countries are HBO, MTV, Cartoon Network, E. Eurosport, the abbreviation CATV is often used for cable television. It originally stood for Community Access Television or Community Antenna Television, in areas where over-the-air TV reception was limited by distance from transmitters or mountainous terrain, large community antennas were constructed, and cable was run from them to individual homes. The origins of cable broadcasting for radio are even older as radio programming was distributed by cable in some European cities as far back as 1924, Cable television has gone through a series of steps of evolution in the United States and Canada. Particularly in Canada, communities with their own signals were fertile cable markets, as viewers wanted to receive American signals. Early systems carried only a maximum of seven channels, using 2,4,5 or 6,7,9,11 and 13, as the equipment was unable to confine the signal discreetly within the assigned channel bandwidth. The reason 4 and 5 along with 6 and 7 could be used together was because of the 4 MHz gap between 4 and 5 and the nearly 90 MHz gap between 6 and 7. Even though eight channels are listed, in systems that maximized 7 channels. As equipment improved, all channels could be utilized, except where a local VHF television station broadcast. Local broadcast channels were not usable for signals deemed to be priority, later, the cable operators began to carry FM radio stations, and encouraged subscribers to connect their FM stereo sets to cable. Before stereo and bilingual TV sound became common, Pay-TV channel sound was added to the FM stereo cable line-ups, about this time, operators expanded beyond the 12-channel dial to use the midband and superband VHF channels adjacent to the high band 7-13 of North American television frequencies. Some operators as in Cornwall, Ontario, used a dual distribution network with Channels 2-13 on each of the two cables, during the 1980s, United States regulations not unlike public, educational, and government access created the beginning of cable-originated live television programming. These stations evolved partially into todays over-the-air digital subchannels, where a main broadcast TV station e. g, many live local programs with local interests were subsequently created all over the United States in most major television markets in the early 1980s. This evolved into todays many cable-only broadcasts of diverse programming, including cable-only produced television movies and miniseries, Cable specialty channels, starting with channels oriented to show movies and large sporting or performance events, diversified further, and narrowcasting became common. By the late 1980s, cable-only signals outnumbered broadcast signals on cable systems, by the mid-1980s in Canada, cable operators were allowed by the regulator to enter into distribution contracts with cable networks on their own. All channels provide rolling news coverage 24-hours a day, focusing primarily on different regions of the New York City metropolitan area outside of Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens. It has become the most-watched and most award-winning hyper-local news network in the USA, the networks are carried by Altice USAs systems throughout the region, these systems were originally owned by Dolan-owned Cablevision before being spun off to Altice. Since the sale, News 12 networks are available on most Charter Communications, Service Electric. However, none of the channels are available on Verizon FiOS or satellite providers DirecTV or Dish Network, even if News 12 were to be made available to these services, Dish has refused to carry any Dolan-owned networks since 2010. Although the seven channels have individual and unique news operations, they share the mission, as well as identical graphics. The combined footprint of the seven channels reaches an audience of 3. Reports indicated Westchester News Director Janine Rose was allowed to resign, News 12 The Bronx was launched in June 1998 as the sixth channel of the News 12 Networks, it reaches more than 300,000 cable television households in the Bronx borough of New York City. The channel reaches more than 490,000 homes throughout the borough via Cablevision, the two networks share the same on-air talent, equipment and newsgathering resources. News 12 Connecticut was launched in 1982 as a local origination channel, on October 10,2011, News 12 Connecticut became the fifth channel among the News 12 Networks to launch a high definition simulcast feed. The channel is headquartered at 28 Cross Street in the Norwalk Center section of Norwalk, News 12 Connecticut is available in Fairfield County, as well as the New Haven County towns of Milford, Woodbridge and Orange with an estimated reach of more than 220,000 Cablevision subscribers. It is not available in Litchfield County but as of February 2017, contains traffic, News 12 Hudson Valley was launched in 2005. On October 5,2011, News 12 Hudson Valley as well as sister channel News 12 Westchester became the third and fourth channels among the News 12 Networks to launch a high definition simulcast feed. News 12 Long Island is the channel of the group. The channel provides 24-hour news coverage focused on Long Island. As of 2009, its weekday circulation of 377,500 was the 11th-highest in the United States, and the highest among suburban newspapers. In 2012, Newsday expanded to include Rockland and Westchester county news on its website, as of January 2014, Newsdays total average circulation was 437,000 on weekdays,434,000 on Saturdays and 495,000 on Sundays. The newspapers headquarters is in Melville, New York, in Suffolk County, the new publication was first produced on September 3,1940 from Hempstead. For many years until a redesign in the 1970s, Newsday copied the Daily News format of short stories. After Pattersons death in 1963, Guggenheim became publisher and editor, in 1967, Guggenheim turned over the publisher position to Bill Moyers and continued as president and editor-in-chief. But Guggenheim was disappointed by the drift of the newspaper under Moyers. The two split over the 1968 presidential election, with Guggenheim signing an editorial supporting Richard Nixon, Guggenheim, who died a year later, disinherited Moyers from his will. After the competing Long Island Press ceased publication in 1977, Newsday launched a separate Queens edition, in June 2000, Times Mirror merged with the Tribune Company, partnering Newsday with the New York City television station WPIX, also owned by Tribune. Chicago, Illinois, real estate magnate Samuel Zell purchased Tribune in 2007, News Corporation, headed by CEO Rupert Murdoch, attempted to purchase Newsday for US$580 million in April 2008. Suddenlink operates in 16 states including Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, with its corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, Suddenlink is part of Altice N. V. Suddenlink traces its origins to January 2002, when it was a part of Cequel Communications LLC. Cequel III maintained a contract with Suddenlink for the provision of certain management services, suddenlinks parent company at the time, Cequel Communications, reported it would invest in and assume management of Classic Communications on February 12,2003. At the time Classic was the 12th largest MSO with 325,000 customers in nine states, classic’s customers had been largely deprived of advanced services like high-speed Internet access. The new management team claims to have invested tens of millions of dollars to upgrade Classic systems, the company was renamed Cebridge Connections and continued to acquire new cable companies and new cable systems. As Cebridge, the company acquired cable systems previously owned by Alliance, Tele-Media, Thompson, in 2006, Cebridge became Suddenlink Communications after the deals to acquire cable systems from Cox Communications and Charter Communications closed. Between 2006 and 2007, the constructed a national backbone unique to cable operators of Suddenlink’s size. Subsequently, this aided the companys 12- to 15-month expansion of a competitive phone service to new areas. As a result, by August 2009, the company counted more than 250,000 active phone lines serving residential and business customers and this project supported the regional deployment of advanced services, including faster Internet download and upload speeds and video on demand. On November 5,2009, Suddenlink announced the completion of a $600 million debt offering.0 technology to substantially all Suddenlink customers. As of the September 2012 conclusion of Project Imagine, HD channels were increased from an average of 24 to 85, VOD and DOCSIS3.0 technologies were expanded to areas serving substantially all customers. Cable Digital News confirmed the service was, at that time, in the following months, MAX107.0 was launched in the Tyler, Texas area and several West Virginia communities. Suddenlink was the first major cable operator to reach this milestone and that same month, Suddenlink and TiVo announced a collaboration in which Suddenlink would distribute co-branded TiVo Premiere DVRs. The TiVo Premiere DVR allows Suddenlink customers to access video-on-demand, Web, in December 2010, the co-branded DVRs launched in Lubbock and Midland, Texas. In early 2011, the devices were rolled out in five more Texas cities as well as Clovis, in April 2011, Suddenlink began offering HBO GO and MAX GO, authenticated online video destinations for HBO and Cinemax programming. Suddenlink2GO was developed in partnership with Synacor, in July 2011, Suddenlink was one of six partner companies mentioned in CNN’s announcement about live-streaming CNN and HLN on iPhones, iPads, and iPods. In November 2011, the company introduced software enhancements that added “any-room” capability to the Suddenlink TiVo Premiere DVRs, TiVo Stream also allows customers to transfer many DVR recordings to these devices for viewing outside the home. It was completed in 1990 by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP for Citigroup, the tower is the tallest building in New York City outside of Manhattan, and the tallest building on Long Island. WNYZ-LP broadcasts from the top of this building and it is not to be mistaken for the Citigroup Center in Manhattan, which is across the street from Citigroups main headquarters at 399 Park Avenue. Newark is the most populous city in the U. S. state of New Jersey and the seat of Essex County. For 2015, the Census Bureaus Population Estimates Program calculated a population of 281,944, Newark is the second largest city in the New York metropolitan area, located approximately 8 miles west of lower Manhattan. Settled in 1666 by Puritans from New Haven Colony, Newark is one of the oldest European cities in the United States and its location at the mouth of the Passaic River, has made the citys waterfront an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Newark was reincorporated as a city on April 11,1836, replacing Newark Township, the previously independent Vailsburg borough was annexed by Newark on January 1,1905. In 1926, South Orange Township changed its name to Maplewood, as a result of this, a portion of Maplewood known as Ivy Hill was re-annexed to Newarks Vailsburg. During the American Revolutionary War British troops made several raids into the town, the city has experienced revitalization since the 1990s. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city had an area of 26.107 square miles. It has the third-smallest land area among the 100 most populous cities in the U. S. behind neighboring Jersey City and Hialeah, the citys altitude ranges from 0 in the east to approximately 230 feet above sea level in the western section of the city. Charter Communications is an American telecommunications company, which offers its services to consumers and businesses under the branding of Spectrum. Providing services to over 25 million customers in 41 states, it is the second-largest cable operator in the United States by subscribers and it is the fifth largest telephone provider based upon residential subscriber line count. On May 18,2016, Charter acquired Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks for a combined $65.5 billion, making it the third-largest pay television company in the United States. Charter Communications was founded in 1993 by Barry Babcock, Jerald Kent and Howard Wood and it was also incorporated in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1993. In 1995, Charter paid about $300 million for a controlling interest in Crown Media, in 1997, Charter and EarthLink joined forces to deliver high-speed Internet access through cable modems to Charters customers in Los Angeles and Riverside, California. In 1998, Paul Allen bought a controlling interest, the company paid $2.8 billion to acquire Dallas-based cable company Marcus Cable. Charter Communications had 1 million customers in 1998, in November 1999, the company went public, trading on the NASDAQ stock exchange. At the time, it had 3.9 million customers, Acquired 400,000 InterMedia Partners subscribers, primarily in the Southeast. Acquired New Jersey-based Helicon Cable Communications, the systems served about 171,000 customers in eight states in the Southeast and Northeast. Acquired Avalon Cable TV, adding 260,000 subscribers primarily in Michigan, Acquired Vista Broadband Communications in Smyrna, Georgia, adding 30,000 more customers. Acquired Falcon Cable TV of Los Angeles, Falcon was the eighth-largest cable operator in the United States with about one million subscribers in 27 states in primarily non-urban areas. Acquired Fanch Communications Inc. of Denver, Fanch had 547,000 subscribers in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Wisconsin. Charter also began swapping customers with systems to improve the geographic clustering of its systems. In December 1999, it signed a letter of intent with AT&T Corporation to swap 1.3 million cable subscribers in St. Louis as well as in Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri. Comcast Corporation is an American global telecommunications conglomerate that is the largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue. Comcast services U. S. residential and commercial customers in 40 states, the companys headquarters are located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first Universal theme park outside of the U. S, Universal Studios Japan, opened in 2001, followed by Universal Studios Singapore in 2011. Few new locations are being planned or developed for future operation, Comcast also has significant holdings in digital distribution. In February 2014 the company agreed to merge with Time Warner Cable in an equity swap deal worth $45.2 billion, under the terms of the agreement Comcast was to acquire 100% of Time Warner Cable. However, on April 24,2015, Comcast terminated the agreement, Comcast has been criticized for multiple reasons, the companys customer satisfaction often ranks among the lowest in the cable industry. Critics also point out a lack of competition in the vast majority of Comcasts service area, furthermore, given Comcasts negotiating power as a large ISP, some suspect that Comcast could leverage paid peering agreements to unfairly influence end-user connection speeds. And its ownership of content production and content distribution has raised antitrust concerns. Despite being publicly-traded, Comcast is a business, with the Ralph J Roberts family owning 33% controlling stake. Comcast is sometimes described as a family business, Brian L. Roberts, Chairman, President, and CEO of Comcast, is the son of co-founder Ralph Roberts. Roberts owns or controls just over 1% of all Comcast shares but all of the Class B supervoting shares, legal expert Susan P. Crawford has said this gives him effective control over every step. In 2010, he was one of the highest paid executives in the United States, Comcast is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and also has corporate offices in Atlanta, Detroit, Denver, and Manchester, New Hampshire. On January 3,2005, Comcast announced that it would become the tenant in the new Comcast Center in downtown Philadelphia. The 975 ft skyscraper is the tallest building in Pennsylvania, Comcast has begun construction on a second 1,121 ft skyscraper directly adjacent to the original Comcast headquarters in the summer of 2014. The company is criticized by both the media and its own staff for its less upstanding policies regarding employee relations. Cox Communications is an American privately owned subsidiary of Cox Enterprises providing digital cable television, telecommunications and Home Automation services in the United States. Cox is headquartered at 6205 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the subsidiary company, Cox Broadcasting Corporation, was not officially formed until 1964, when it was established as a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange. It was taken private by Cox Enterprises in 1985, in 1993, Cox began offering telecommunications services to businesses. This eventually grew into Cox Business, which now represents $1 billion in annual revenue, in 1995, Cox acquired the Times Mirror cable properties. In 1997, Cox became the first multiple system operator to offer phone services to customers following the 1996 Telecom Act. In 1999, Cox acquired the television assets of Media General in Fairfax County and Fredericksburg. In 2000, Cox Communications acquired Multimedia Cablevision with assets in Kansas, Oklahoma, the Board also forbade Cox from raising rates to recover the cost of the fine for a period of 10 years from the actual completion date. The total fine was approximately $93,000, the sale closed in 2006 and those systems were transitioned by their new owner from Cox branding to Suddenlink Communications. On May 14,2007, Cox announced that they had sold their investment in Discovery Communications for the Travel Channel, related assets, in 2007, DiversityInc magazine named Cox Communications #25 in its Top 50 Companies for Diversity. Cox climbed to the position on Diversity Inc. s 2008 list. Also in 2008, Cox was named #8 on the Top 10 Companies for African Americans, on November 19,2010, Cox began offering Unbelievably Fair Wireless services in Orange County, California, Omaha, Nebraska, and, in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Two separate PureCell System 400 kilowatt installations will generate enough power to reduce the company’s dependence of the local power grid. In September 2011, Cox Home Security was added to their suite of products listed on their website and this new service utilizes advanced technologies similar to the home security products offered by other MSOs such as Comcast. In August,2013, Cox launched their Contour TV product, the product integrates HD DVR, TV, iPad, and extra room set-top boxes that utilize user profiles to suggest viewing recommendations. Cox Business, Provides business level video, voice and Internet services, Cox Media, Advertising sales Travel Media, Inc. In 2004, Cox Enterprises announced its intention to purchase shares of Cox Communications which it did not already own. The Netherlands, also informally known as Holland is the main constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a densely populated country located in Western Europe with three territories in the Caribbean. The European part of the Netherlands borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and the North Sea to the northwest, sharing borders with Belgium, the United Kingdom. The three largest cities in the Netherlands are Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, Amsterdam is the countrys capital, while The Hague holds the Dutch seat of parliament and government. The port of Rotterdam is the worlds largest port outside East-Asia, the name Holland is used informally to refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands. Netherlands literally means lower countries, influenced by its low land and flat geography, most of the areas below sea level are artificial. Since the late 16th century, large areas have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, with a population density of 412 people per km2 –507 if water is excluded – the Netherlands is classified as a very densely populated country. Only Bangladesh, South Korea, and Taiwan have both a population and higher population density. Nevertheless, the Netherlands is the worlds second-largest exporter of food and agricultural products and this is partly due to the fertility of the soil and the mild climate. In 2001, it became the worlds first country to legalise same-sex marriage, the Netherlands is a founding member of the EU, Eurozone, G-10, NATO, OECD and WTO, as well as being a part of the Schengen Area and the trilateral Benelux Union. The first four are situated in The Hague, as is the EUs criminal intelligence agency Europol and this has led to the city being dubbed the worlds legal capital. The country also ranks second highest in the worlds 2016 Press Freedom Index, the Netherlands has a market-based mixed economy, ranking 17th of 177 countries according to the Index of Economic Freedom. It had the thirteenth-highest per capita income in the world in 2013 according to the International Monetary Fund, in 2013, the United Nations World Happiness Report ranked the Netherlands as the seventh-happiest country in the world, reflecting its high quality of life. The Netherlands also ranks joint second highest in the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index, the region called Low Countries and the country of the Netherlands have the same toponymy. The FCC works towards six goals in the areas of broadband, competition, the spectrum, the media, public safety and homeland security, and modernizing itself. The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission, the FCC took over wire communication regulation from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The FCCs mandated jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the FCC also provides varied degrees of cooperation, oversight, and leadership for similar communications bodies in other countries of North America. The FCC is funded entirely by regulatory fees and it has an estimated fiscal-2016 budget of US$388 million. Consistent with the objectives of the Act as well as the 1993 Government Performance and Results Act and these are, Broadband All Americans should have affordable access to robust and reliable broadband products and services. Competition Competition in the provision of services, both domestically and overseas, supports the Nations economy. St. Louis is an independent city and major U. S. port in the state of Missouri, built along the western bank of the Mississippi River, on the border with Illinois. Prior to European settlement, the area was a regional center of Native American Mississippian culture. The city of St. Louis was founded in 1764 by French fur traders Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau, in 1764, following Frances defeat in the Seven Years War, the area was ceded to Spain and retroceded back to France in 1800. In 1803, the United States acquired the territory as part of the Louisiana Purchase, during the 19th century, St. Louis developed as a major port on the Mississippi River. In the 1870 Census, St. Louis was ranked as the 4th-largest city in the United States and it separated from St. Louis County in 1877, becoming an independent city and limiting its own political boundaries. In 1904, it hosted the Louisiana Purchase Exposition and the Summer Olympics, the economy of metro St. Louis relies on service, manufacturing, trade, transportation of goods, and tourism. This city has become known for its growing medical, pharmaceutical. St. Louis has 2 professional sports teams, the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball, the city is commonly identified with the 630-foot tall Gateway Arch in Downtown St. Louis. The area that would become St. Louis was a center of the Native American Mississippian culture and their major regional center was at Cahokia Mounds, active from 900 AD to 1500 AD. Due to numerous major earthworks within St. Louis boundaries, the city was nicknamed as the Mound City and these mounds were mostly demolished during the citys development. Historic Native American tribes in the area included the Siouan-speaking Osage people, whose territory extended west, European exploration of the area was first recorded in 1673, when French explorers Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette traveled through the Mississippi River valley. Five years later, La Salle claimed the region for France as part of La Louisiane. The earliest European settlements in the area were built in Illinois Country on the east side of the Mississippi River during the 1690s and early 1700s at Cahokia, Kaskaskia, migrants from the French villages on the opposite side of the Mississippi River founded Ste. In early 1764, after France lost the 7 Years War, Pierre Laclède, the early French families built the citys economy on the fur trade with the Osage, as well as with more distant tribes along the Missouri River. The Chouteau brothers gained a monopoly from Spain on the fur trade with Santa Fe, French colonists used African slaves as domestic servants and workers in the city. In 1780 during the American Revolutionary War, St. Louis was attacked by British forces, mostly Native American allies, the founding of St. Louis began in 1763. Pierre Laclede led an expedition to set up a fur-trading post farther up the Mississippi River, before then, Laclede had been a very successful merchant. For this reason, he and his trading partner Gilbert Antoine de St. Maxent were offered monopolies for six years of the fur trading in that area

A corporate spin-off, also known as a spin-out, or starburst, is a type of corporate action where a company splits off a section as a separate business. Shareholders of the parent company receive equivalent shares in the new company in order to compensate for the loss of equity in the original stocks. In contrast, divestment can also sever one business from another, many times the management team of the new company are from the same parent organization. Spin-offs also allow high-growth divisions, once separated from other low-growth divisions, the United States Securities and Exchange Commissions definition of spin-off is more precise. Spin-offs occur when the equity owners of the parent company receive equity stakes in the spun off company. For example, when Agilent Technologies was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999, a company not considered a spin-off in the SECs definition may also be called a spin-off in common usage. A second definition of a spin-out is a firm formed when an employee or group of leaves a existing entity to form an independent start-up firm. The prior employer can be a firm, a university, or another organization, spin-outs typically operate at arms length from the previous organizations and have independent sources of financing, products, services, customers, and other assets. In some cases, the spin-out may license technology from the parent or supply the parent with products or services, conversely, such spin-outs are important sources of technological diffusion in high-tech industries. For example, Fosters Group, an Australian beverage company, was prepared to sell its wine business, but due to the lack of a decent offer, it decided to spin off the wine business, which is now called Treasury Wine Estates. Some examples of spin-offs, Guidant was spun off from Eli Lilly and Company in 1994, formed from Lillys Medical Devices, Agilent Technologies spun off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999, formed from HPs former test-and-measurement equipment division. Cenovus Energy was spun off from Encana Corporation in 2009, ocean Rig UDW Inc was spun off from Dryships Inc in September 2011. AOL was a Time Warner spin-off, this effectively was a demerger, DreamWorks Animation was spun off from DreamWorks Studios in 2004. The company was originally launched in 1980 and formerly known as Rainbow Media Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of Cablevision, but was spun off as a publicly traded company in July 2011. The company is majority-owned and controlled by the Dolan family, when Rainbow was formed in 1980, it originally included Bravo and SportsChannel New York. As SportsChannel expanded by adding other regional networks, these became part of Rainbow. When SportsChannel was merged into Fox Sports Net, all of these networks except SportsChannel NY were gradually sold off, Fox Sports New York was then transferred to the MSG Media and rebranded MSG+. Rainbow originally started the Playboy Channel in 1982 as a joint-venture with Playboy, in 1988, Cablevision merged their cable networks with NBC, giving NBC 50% ownership in Rainbow. Through a series of transactions, NBCs stake was eventually reduced, in 2002, Cablevision sold its share of Bravo to NBC and as part of the deal, NBC gave up its then 20% share in Rainbow. Rainbow ran the local-minded MSG Metro Channels which launched in 1998, chris-Craft later sold its stations, including WRBW, to Fox Television Stations, who currently operates WRBW as a MyNetworkTV station. In 2005, Cablevision considered spinning off its content subsidiary Rainbow Media as a publicly traded company, and making their core cable business private, in 2006, a new plan emerged to privatize all of Cablevision, including Rainbow Media. In January 2007, with no word on if the privatization would go through, Rainbow Media also formerly owned the music channel Fuse, the channel became a part of MSG Media in 2010, as Madison Square Garden was also spun off as a public company. Rainbow Media also owned Wedding Central which was shut down the same day AMC Networks went public, Rainbow Medias former president Josh Sapan serves as the president and chief executive of AMC Networks which went public on July 1,2011. Dish Network stated that the lawsuit is unrelated to the decision to remove the AMC Networks channels, on May 20,2012, Dish Network removed Sundance Channel from its channel lineup. On July 1,2012, Dish Network dropped AMC, WEtv, on July 12,2012, AMC said in an e-mailed statement that it would stream over the Internet the season premiere of Breaking Bad to Dish customers. WABC-TV, channel 7, is the flagship station of the ABC Television Network, located in New York City. WABC-TV is owned by the ABC Owned Television Stations subsidiary of the Disney-ABC Television Group division of the Disney Media Networks subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. The stations studios and offices are located near Lincoln Square on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, adjacent to ABCs corporate headquarters, its transmitter is atop the Empire State Building. WPVI-TV, channel 6, is an ABC owned-and-operated television station located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The station is owned by the ABC Owned Television Stations subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, WPVI maintains studios located on City Line Avenue in the Wynnefield Heights section of Philadelphia, and its transmitter is located in Philadelphias Roxborough neighborhood. The station first signed on the air on September 10,1947 as WFIL-TV and it was originally owned by Triangle Publications, publishers of The Philadelphia Inquirer and owners of WFIL radio. WFIL radio had been an ABC radio affiliate dating back to the networks existence as the NBC Blue Network, however, WFIL-TV started out carrying programming from the DuMont Television Network, as ABC had not yet ventured into broadcast television. When the ABC television network debuted on April 19,1948, Channel 6 joined ABC before the networks first owned-and-operated station, WJZ-TV in New York City, signed on in August of that year. However, it retained an affiliation with DuMont until that network shut down in 1956. The WFIL radio stations originally broadcast from the Widener Building in downtown Philadelphia, with the anticipated arrival of WFIL-TV, Triangle secured a new facility for the stations, located at Market and 46th streets, which opened in 1947. In 1963, Triangle built one of the most advanced broadcast centers in the nation on City Avenue in the Wynnefield Heights community, Channel 6 has a long history of producing local programs. Perhaps its most notable production was Bandstand, which began in 1952. In 1957, ABC added the program as part of its weekday afternoon network lineup, WFIL-TV also produced an early, yet long-running, program on adult literacy, Operation Alphabet. One of its earliest local series was Lets Pop the Question, Channel 6 was the first station to sign on from the Roxborough neighborhood. It originally transmitted from a 600-foot tower, but in 1957 it moved to a new 1, 100-foot tower, the new tower added much of Delaware and the Lehigh Valley to the stations city-grade coverage. WFIL-TV was also one of the first TV stations in Philadelphia to broadcast local color, in 1968, the Federal Communications Commission passed a rule barring companies from owning newspapers and broadcast outlets in the same market. However, the agency grandfathered several existing newspaper and broadcasting cross-combinations in several markets, Triangle asked the FCC to grandfather its cluster of the Inquirer, the Daily News and WFIL-AM-FM-TV, but was turned down. As a result, in 1969, one year after the new regulation was made official, Triangle sold the Inquirer, in 1970, the FCC forced Triangle to sell off its broadcasting properties due to protests from then-Pennsylvania Governor Milton Shapp. Shapp complained that Triangle had used its three Pennsylvania television stations – WFIL-TV, WLYH-TV in Lebanon and WFBG-TV in Altoona – in a campaign against him. The WFIL stations, along with radio-television combinations in New Haven, Connecticut and Fresno, on April 27,1971, shortly after the sale was approved and Capital Cities took control of channel 6, the station changed its call letters to the current WPVI-TV. Anne Arundel Broadband is headquartered in Millersville, Maryland, millennium officially changed its name to Broadstripe in October 2007. The company has reported a $2.63 million net loss in September,2010 on revenue of $7.68 billion, depreciation and amortization for the month totaled $2.2 million. Also, Broadstripe was authorized in October to adopt a program for 12 executives that may cost as much as $446,000. To qualify, the system for which the employees work must be sold. In February 2010, the company launched a 60-day, money-back guarantee program offering both new and existing residential customers 60 days to test new services from the cable provider’s offerings. According to the company, if the customer is not satisfied or has issues, on August 26,2011 Broadstripe announced the sale of its Michigan cable system to Wide Open West. On the same date it announced the sale of its Oregon and Washington cable systems to WaveDivisions Wave Broadband unit and its Maryland system was sold to Anne Arundel Broadband, and will be operated under the Broadstripe name by former Broadstripe Management. These sales closed on January 13,2012, Broadstripe offers the following services, Digital Cable, which includes commercial-free music channels, pay-per-view movies and television shows, premium and High-Definition channels.
