Ardea is an ancient town and comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, 35 kilometres south of Rome and about 4 kilometres from today's Mediterranean coast.

It comprises the territory of the city of Rome and 120 other comuni in the hinterland of the city. With more than 4.3 million inhabitants, it is the largest metropolitan city in Italy.
