William Paul Paynter is an English football manager and former player who was most recently the manager of Northern Premier League Division One West club Runcorn Linnets. In a 17-year professional career in the English Football League he played as a striker and scored 131 goals in 529 league and cup appearances.

The Port Vale Player of the Year award is voted for annually by Port Vale's supporters in recognition of the best overall performance by an individual player throughout the football season. Towards the end of each season, fans are invited to cast their votes for this award.
