Birnagar is an island municipality the Hooghly River, in the Ranaghat subdivision of Nadia district in West Bengal, India.
Birnagar was founded in the pre-colonial era. Before the British colonized India, Birnagar was named “Ula.”

The oldest temple found at Ula is the Vishnu temple located to the north-east of the Mitra-Mustafi house.
