A coxed four, abbreviated as a 4+, is a racing shell used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for four persons who propel the boat with sweep oars and is steered by a coxswain.

Note how the oar shaft connects not to the midline of the blade (as is the case of macons) but rather higher pitch, that is toward an upper part of the spoon/blade when perpendicular to the waterline.
