Heinrich Emil Charles Wenck was a Danish architect, known for the numerous railway stations he designed in his capacity of chief architect for the Danish State Railways from 1894 to 1921. During the years Wenck held the post, the network in Denmark experienced a strong expansion. Among these are Copenhagen Central Station and the Øresund Railway stations which are examples of his National Romantic, from 1903 he was a titular professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Heinrich Wenck was born on 10 March 1851 in Aarhus to Theodor Wenck, a officer and general à la suite who worked for the Danish road services. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1869 studying under Ferdinand Meldahl and Christian Hansen, in 1878 he won the Academys small gold medal for a project for a library in Neo-Gothic style and received a travel scholarship which took him to Italy from 1883 to 1885. From 1882 Wenck was employed by the Danish State Railways and his first major assignment was Helsingør railway station which he designed in collaboration with Holsøe.
It was inaugurated on 24 October 1891, from 1895 to 1897 he worked on the stations for the Øresund Railway which connected Copenhagen to Helsingør. They are designed in a fabulating National Romantic style which draws on inspiration from Martin Nyrop, Wenck did not just design the stations proper but a number of related buildings, such as carriage houses, housing for workers, switchmens houses and lavatories. With many of the stations, his approach was that of Gesamtkunst to the effect that he designed the signs, door handles, chandeliers. The stations won him the Eckersberg Medal in 1898, Wenck retired from the State Railways in 1921 and was succeeded by Knud Tanggaard Seest. fl. fl
Lever Brothers was a British manufacturing company founded in 1885 by brothers William Hesketh Lever and James Darcy Lever. They invested in and successfully promoted a new soap-making process invented by chemist William Hough Watson, in 1930, Lever Brothers merged with Margarine Unie to form Unilever. Starting with a grocery business begun by his father, William Lever. The brothers teamed up with a Bolton chemist, William Hough Watson, Watson invented the process which resulted in a new soap, using glycerin and vegetable oils such as palm oil, rather than tallow. The resulting soap was a good, free-lathering soap, at first named Honey Soap later named Sunlight Soap, production reached 450 tons per week by 1888. Larger premises were built on marshes at Bromborough Pool on the Wirral Peninsula at what became Port Sunlight, though the company was named Lever Brothers, William Levers brother and co-director James never took a major part in running the business. He fell ill in 1895, probably as a result of diabetes, Lever Brothers was one of several British companies that took an interest in the welfare of its employees.
By 1900 Lifebuoy and Vim brands had been added and subsidiaries had set up in the United States, Canada, Germany. By 1911 the company had its own oil palm plantations in Belgian Congo, Lever Brothers Ltd acquired other soap companies including A&F Pears, Gossages of Widnes, Watsons of Leeds, Crosfields of Warrington, Hazlehurst & Sons of Runcorn and Hudsons of Liverpool. The town Leverville was founded in the Bandundu district, named after William Lever, Lever Brothers rode the cresting late-Victorian consumer revolution to build a vast worldwide industrial empire. Four years after William Levers death in 1925, his enterprises were amalgamated as Unilever, by 1930, it employed 250,000 people and in terms of market value, was the largest company in Britain. The company grew and operated until 1930, when it merged with a Dutch margarine company, Margarine Unie, to form Unilever, as part of the agreement, Lever Brothers changed its name to Unilever plc, and forms the British half of the dual-listed company.
Although the two companies have separate shareholders and stock exchange listings, they have a board of directors. The Lever Brothers name was kept for a time as an imprint, as well as the name of the US subsidiary, Lever Brothers Company, Lever Brothers was sold to a US capital firm Pensler Capital Corporation and renamed Korex in 2008. Korex Don Valley assumed operations of the Lever Brothers Toronto plant and it has since closed and gone bankrupt. The Toronto plant is now being redeveloped into an office and industrial district by First Gulf Corporation, among its presidents was Charles Luckman who in the 1950s championed the construction of the Lever House in New York City. The Glostrup Hospital is located in the township of Glostrup 8 km from the center of Copenhagen in Denmark. It is owned and managed by the health authority of the Greater Copenhagen region, Region Hovedstaden. Several high-profiled subspecialized clinical centers with research activities are incorporated in the departments of the Glostrup Hospital, annual visits number 230,000 patients, including 40,000 in-patients, and 18,000 surgical procedures. Frederikssund is a Danish town, seat of the Frederikssund Municipality, in the Region Hovedstaden with a population of 15,865. It received the status of town in 1810. The town is famous for its annual Viking Games as well as for the J. F. Willumsen museum, since 1935, it has been connected to Hornsherred via the Kronprins Frederik Bridge. There is evidence of communities dating back to the stone age with a number of burial sites in the area. Located at a point on Roskilde Fjord, Sundby Færge became the harbour for the nearby market town of Slangerup. In 1809-10, the status of town was transferred from Slangerup to Frederikssund. In 1868, a bridge linking Frederikssund to Hornsherred was opened. This was replaced by todays Kronprins Frederik Bridge in 1935, Frederikssund is located on the east coast of Roskilde Fjord, about 45 km north-west of Copenhagen,20 km south of Hillerød and 30 km north of Roskilde. It is less than an hour from Copenhagen by either road or rail, s-trains leave about once every 10 minutes.
Copenhagen Airport can be reached by road or rail in about an hour, the low hills on which Frederikssund lies are formed of moraines from the last Ice Age. The shallow Roskilde Fjord which separates Frederikssund from Hornsherred originated in the same period, the fertile land surrounding Frederikssund is used for mixed farming - with an emphasis on cereals, root crops and pigs. It has all the associated with a modern Danish town, museums, a public library, supermarkets. With a location facing west over the Roskilde Fjord, it has many footpaths along the shores, the local rail and bus services are well developed. Activities range from sailing, cycling, golfing or gliding to simply sitting out on the pedestrian street. Kongens Lyngby is the seat and commercial centre of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Lyngby Hovedgade is a shopping street and the site of a branch of Magasin du Nord as well as Lyngby Storcenter. The district is home to several major companies, including COWI A/S. Lyngby station is located on the Hillerød radial of Copenhagens S-train network, Kongens Lyngby borders, the municipality of Gentofte, where the Danish Prime Ministers official residence, Marienborg and the Gladsaxe municipality. The name Kongens Lyngby is first recorded in 1893, at that time large parts of North Zealand belonged to the Catholic Church (represented by Roskilde Cathedral and the name Lyngby was associated with several places. Store Lyngby belonged to Arresø church and our Lyngby, on the other hand, was crown land. It may therefore have been to distinguish it from other places that the name emerged. The original Lyngby village is now known as Bondebyen, Kongens Lyngby was the site of a watermill, Lyngby Watermill, which is first mentioned in 1492 but is probably several hundred years older.
A royal road, Lyngby Kongevej, was created in 1584 to provide a link between Copenhagen and Fredericks new Frederiksborg Castle from where it was extended to Fredensborg and Helsingør. It was the first of a number of royal roads created by Frederick II, in the 18th century, a growing number of country houses were built in the area by civil servants and merchants from Copenhagen. Kongens Lyngby had no rights but developed into a local service centre with an increasing number of craftsmen. In the 1930s, Kongens Lyngby developed into a modern suburb, the North Line was converted into an S-train line with more stations and Kongens Lyngby gradually merged with the neighboring settlements. Kongens Lyngby is the important shopping destination in the northern suburbs, Lyngby Hovedgade is a busy shopping site and is the site of a Magasin du Nord as well as Lyngby Storcenter
Motorola was an American multinational telecommunications company founded on September 25,1928, based in Schaumburg, Illinois. After having lost $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009, Motorola Solutions is generally considered to be the direct successor to Motorola, as the reorganization was structured with Motorola Mobility being spun off. Motorola Mobility was acquired by Lenovo in 2014, Motorola designed and sold wireless network equipment such as cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers. Its business and government customers consisted mainly of wireless voice and broadband systems and these businesses are now part of Motorola Solutions. Google sold Motorola Home to the Arris Group in December 2012 for US$2.35 billion, Motorolas wireless telephone handset division was a pioneer in cellular telephones. Also known as the Personal Communication Sector prior to 2004, it pioneered the mobile phone with DynaTAC and it had staged a resurgence by the mid-2000s with the RAZR, but lost market share in the second half of that decade.
Later it focused on smartphones using Googles open-source Android mobile operating system, the first phone to use the newest version of Googles open source OS, Android 2.0, was released on November 2,2009 as the Motorola Droid. The handset division was spun off into the independent Motorola Mobility. On May 22,2012, Google CEO Larry Page announced that Google had closed on its deal to acquire Motorola Mobility. On January 29,2014, Page announced that pending closure of the deal, on October 30,2014, Lenovo finalized its purchase of Motorola Mobility from Google. Galvin Manufacturing Corporation set up shop in a section of a rented building. The company had $565 in working capital and five employees, the first weeks payroll was $63. The companys first products were battery-eliminators, devices that enabled battery-powered radios to operate on household electricity, due to advances in radio technology, battery-eliminators soon became obsolete. Paul Galvin learned that some radio technicians were installing sets in cars and his team was successful, and Galvin was able to demonstrate a working model of the radio at the June 1930 Radio Manufacturers Association convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
He brought home enough orders to keep the company in business. g, the company sold its first Motorola branded radio on June 23,1930, to H. C. Wall of Fort Wayne, for $30, the Motorola brand name became so well-known that Galvin Manufacturing Corporation changed its name to Motorola, Inc. Galvin Manufacturing Corporation began selling Motorola car-radio receivers to police departments, the companys first public safety customers included the Village of River Forest, Village of Bellwood Police Department, City of Evanston Police, Illinois State Highway Police, and Cook County Police. In the same year, the company built its research and development program with Dan Noble, a pioneer in FM radio and semiconductor technologies, the company produced the hand-held AM SCR-536 radio during World War II, which was vital to Allied communication
Glostrup Kommune is a suburban municipality and town in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand approx. 10 km west of Copenhagen in eastern Denmark, the municipality covers an area of 13.31 km², and has a total population of 22,151. Its mayor as of 2010 is John Engelhardt, a member of the Liberal Party political party, from 1947 to 1960 the population in the municipality doubled due to the expanding suburbs of Copenhagen, reaching the municipality in the post-war period. Glostrup was designated as a new suburb along the western Tåstrup-finger of the Copenhagen Finger Plan of 1947, the main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Glostrup, home to three quarters of the population. Other towns in the municipality are Hvissinge and Ejby, until 1974 the town of Avedøre belonged to this municipality. Being an exclave, it was merged into the neighbouring Hvidovre Municipality, neighboring municipalities are Rødovre to the east and Ballerup to the north, Albertslund to the west, and Brøndby to the south.
Glostrup was not merged with other municipalities by January 1,2007 as the result of nationwide Kommunalreformen, the church of Glostrup originates from the 12th century. Glostrup municipality is governed a municipal council, council elections are held the third Tuesday of November every four years, the next time in 2013. After a competition Arne Jacobsen was chosen as architect, the new city hall was inaugurated in 1959. The municipality has twice as many employed within its borders compared with its own workforce, the largest employer in the municipality is Glostrup Hospital with 2,500 employees. Vestforbrænding in Ejby is Denmarks largest incineration plant, major companies based in the municipality include Pandora, Kopenhagen Fur. International companies, whose Danish subsidiaries are based out of Glostrup, include Grontmij, most of the municipalitys housing stock is built between 1950 and 1975. 42 percent of its dwellings are owned by public housing corporations, as a result of the influence of the housing corporation, more than half the housing stock is between 60 and 99 square meters.
As a result of the population in the Copenhagen area. The dwellings are detached houses and terraced houses planned in former industrial areas. The largest greenspace in Glostrup Municipality is Vestskoven that straddles the border with Albertslund where most of its 13 square kilometer are located, the West Rampart follows the eastern boundary of the municipality. Ehby Bog is located in the corner, on the border with Ballerup. Roskildevej is a road between Copenhagen and Roskilde in the Danish capital area. The section between Hedehusene and Roskilde is now known as Københavnsvej and in Hedehusene and Glostrup it is known as Hovedgaden. The section from Aalholm Plads in Copenhagen to The Eastern Ring Road in Roskilde is known as Secondary Route 156 and is 24 km long, the total distance from Copenhagen City Hall Square to Algade in Roskilde is about 31 km. The road was constructed as a replacement for the old Via Regia between Copenhagen and Roskilde, construction began at the Roskilde end in 1770 and was completed in Copenhagen in 1776. The project was led by the French road engineer Jean Marmillod who had called to Copenhagen by Prime Minister Count Johann Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff in 1753 to improve the road. Glostrup and Hedehusene remained the towns along the road until the 1960s. In Frederiksberg, Roskildevej passes Frederiksberg Palace and Copenhagen Zoo where the Zoo Tower is visible from the road, at Pelargonievej, there is a neighbourhood of single family detached housing which dates from the 1890s.
