Buffalo, New York

Buffalo is a city in western New York state and the county seat of Erie County, on the eastern shores of Lake Erie at the head of the Niagara River. As of 2014, Buffalo is New York states 2nd-most populous city after New York City, the metropolitan area has a population of 1.13 million. After an economic downturn in the half of the 20th century, Buffalos economy has transitioned to sectors that include financial services, technology, biomedical engineering. Residents of Buffalo are called Buffalonians, the citys nicknames include The Queen City, The Nickel City and The City of Good Neighbors. The city of Buffalo received its name from a creek called Buffalo Creek. British military engineer Captain John Montresor made reference to Buffalo Creek in his journal of 1764, there are several theories regarding how Buffalo Creek received its name. In 1804, as principal agent opening the area for the Holland Land Company, Joseph Ellicott, designed a radial street and grid system that branches out from downtown like bicycle spokes similar to the street system he used in the nations capital. Although Ellicott named the settlement New Amsterdam, the name did not catch on, during the War of 1812, on December 30,1813, Buffalo was burned by British forces. The George Coit House 1818 and Samuel Schenck House 1823 are currently the oldest houses within the limits of the City of Buffalo, on October 26,1825, the Erie Canal was completed with Buffalo a port-of-call for settlers heading westward. At the time, the population was about 2,400, the Erie Canal brought about a surge in population and commerce, which led Buffalo to incorporate as a city in 1832. In 1845, construction began on the Macedonia Baptist Church, an important meeting place for the abolitionist movement, Buffalo was a terminus point of the Underground Railroad with many fugitive slaves crossing the Niagara River to Fort Erie, Ontario in search of freedom. During the 1840s, Buffalos port continued to develop, both passenger and commercial traffic expanded with some 93,000 passengers heading west from the port of Buffalo. Grain and commercial goods shipments led to repeated expansion of the harbor, in 1843, the worlds first steam-powered grain elevator was constructed by local merchant Joseph Dart and engineer Robert Dunbar. Darts Elevator enabled faster unloading of lake freighters along with the transshipment of grain in bulk from barges, canal boats, by 1850, the citys population was 81,000. At the dawn of the 20th century, local mills were among the first to benefit from hydroelectric power generated by the Niagara River, the city got the nickname City of Light at this time due to the widespread electric lighting. It was also part of the revolution, hosting the brass era car builders Pierce Arrow. President William McKinley was shot and mortally wounded by an anarchist at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo on September 6,1901, McKinley died in the city eight days later and Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in at the Wilcox Mansion as the 26th President of the United States. Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s and 2000s. In this instance, the word refers to the genres distinction from mainstream rock music. The terms original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their debt to either the musical style or simply the independent. Ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music, Alternative rock is a broad umbrella term consisting of music that differs greatly in terms of its sound, its social context, and its regional roots. Most of these subgenres had achieved minor mainstream notice and a few bands representing them, such as Hüsker Dü, with the breakthrough of Nirvana and the popularity of the grunge and Britpop movements in the 1990s, alternative rock entered the musical mainstream and many alternative bands became successful. By the end of the decade, alternative rocks mainstream prominence declined due to a number of events that caused grunge and Britpop to fade, emo attracted attention in the larger alternative rock world, and the term was applied to a variety of artists, including multi-platinum acts. Post-punk revival artists such as Modest Mouse and The Killers had commercial success in the early, before the term alternative rock came into common usage around 1990, the sort of music to which it refers was known by a variety of terms. In 1979, Terry Tolkin used the term Alternative Music to describe the groups he was writing about, in 1979 Dallas radio station KZEW had a late night new wave show entitled Rock and Roll Alternative. College rock was used in the United States to describe the music during the 1980s due to its links to the radio circuit. In the United Kingdom, dozens of small do it yourself record labels emerged as a result of the punk subculture, according to the founder of one of these labels, Cherry Red, NME and Sounds magazines published charts based on small record stores called Alternative Charts. The first national chart based on distribution called the Indie Chart was published in January 1980, at the time, the term indie was used literally to describe independently distributed records. By 1985, indie had come to mean a particular genre, or group of subgenres, at first the term referred to intentionally non–mainstream rock acts that were not influenced by heavy metal ballads, rarefied new wave and high-energy dance anthems. The use of alternative gained further exposure due to the success of Lollapalooza, for which festival founder, in the late 1990s, the definition again became more specific. Defining music as alternative is often difficult because of two conflicting applications of the word, the name alternative rock essentially serves as an umbrella term for underground music that has emerged in the wake of punk rock since the mid-1980s. Alternative bands during the 1980s generally played in clubs, recorded for indie labels. Sounds range from the gloomy soundscapes of gothic rock to the guitars of indie pop to the dirty guitars of grunge to the 1960s/1970s revivalism of Britpop. Punk rock is a rock music genre that developed in the early to mid-1970s in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in 1960s garage rock and other forms of what is now known as proto-punk music, Punk bands typically produced short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic, many bands self-produce recordings and distribute them through informal channels, the term punk was first used in relation to rock music by some American critics in the early 1970s, to describe garage bands and their devotees. The following year saw punk rock spreading around the world, for the most part, punk took root in local scenes that tended to reject association with the mainstream. An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive styles of clothing and adornment, by the beginning of the 1980s, faster, more aggressive styles such as hardcore and street punk had become the predominant mode of punk rock. Musicians identifying with or inspired by punk also pursued a range of other variations, giving rise to post-punk. At the end of the 20th century, punk rock had been adopted by the mainstream, as pop punk and punk bands such as Green Day. The first wave of rock was aggressively modern, distancing itself from the bombast. Warner Bros. Records was established on March 19,1958, as the recorded-music division of the American film studio Warner Bros. For most of its existence it was one of a group of labels owned and operated by larger parent corporations. The sequence of companies that controlled Warner Bros. and its allied labels evolved through a series of corporate mergers. Over this period, Warner Bros. Records grew from a minor player in the music industry to become one of the top recording labels in the world. In 2003, these assets were divested by their then owner Time Warner. This independent company traded as the Warner Music Group before being bought by Access Industries in 2011, WMG is the smallest of the three major international music conglomerates and the worlds last publicly traded major music company. Cameron Strang serves as CEO of the company, artists currently signed to Warner Bros. At the end of the silent movie period, Warner Bros, pictures decided to expand into publishing and recording so that it could access low-cost music content for its films. This new group controlled valuable copyrights on standards by George and Ira Gershwin and Jerome Kern, the label signed rising radio and recording stars Bing Crosby, Mills Brothers, and Boswell Sisters. In December 1931, Warner Bros. offloaded Brunswick to the American Record Corporation for a fraction of its former value, in a lease arrangement which did not include Brunswicks pressing plants. Warner Bros. sold Brunswick a second time, this time along with the old Brunswick pressing plants Warner owned, to Decca Records in exchange for a financial interest in Decca. The studio stayed out of the business for more than 25 years. Warner Bros. reëntered the record business in 1958 with the establishment of its own recording division, by this time, the established Hollywood studios were reeling from multiple challenges to their former dominance - the most notable being the introduction of television in the late 1940s. Legal changes also had a impact on their business—lawsuits brought by major stars had effectively overthrown the old studio contract system by the late 1940s. Pictures sold off much of its library in 1948 and, beginning in 1949. Semenenko in particular had a professional interest in the entertainment business. John Joseph Theodore Johnny Rzeznik is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and producer. He is best known as the guitarist and frontman of the band the Goo Goo Dolls, of which he is a founding member. Rzeznik was born in Buffalo, New York, the youngest and only son of five children of Edith and Joseph Rzeznik, both of Rzezniks parents were musicians, playing the clarinet and flute. Rzeznik had a strict Catholic upbringing in Buffalos working-class East Side Polish neighborhood, All four of Rzezniks grandparents were born in Poland, the original pronunciation of his last name is Rzeźnik, Polish for butcher. Rzezniks father died on February 2,1981, from a coma at the age of 55. On October 26,1982, his mother died from a heart attack in the familys living room at the age of 53. Having lost both of his parents, he was brought up by his four sisters, Phyllis, Fran, Gladys and Kate. He paid for his own apartment using Social Security Survivor Benefit checks and it was during this period and while attending McKinley Vocational High School that Rzeznik began playing the guitar. Rzeznik briefly attended Buffalo State College, dropping out after his first year, Rzeznik met former model Laurie Farinacci in 1990, married her in 1993 but got a divorce in 2003, they did not have any children. He started dating Melina Gallo in 2005 and married her in Malibu, California, on December 22,2016, he and Gallo had their first child, a daughter, Liliana. In 1985, he formed the band became the Goo Goo Dolls with Robby Takac. Previously John had been in a band with Takacs cousin, called The Beaumonts and it is thought the band was originally called The Sex Maggots, however Rzeznik admitted this was a joke on stage one night, and he was never actually in a band called The Sex Maggots. They got the name Goo Goo Dolls from an ad in a True Detective magazine when a promoter asked them. In the early days of The Goo Goo Dolls, the performed at gigs relentlessly. They were soon picked up by a record label, Celluloid. Under Celluloid they released their first eponymous album on a $750 budget and this attracted the attention of a larger record label, Metal Blade, who released their next few albums. For the next few years the band toured, produced albums, following the album Gutterflower, John wrote Always Know Where You Are and Im Still Here for the Disney film Treasure Planet, which were also released as a single independently from the band. From October to December 2007, Rzeznik was a judge alongside Sheila E. and Australian Idol judge, on June 19,2008, John Rzeznik was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and was awarded the Hal David Starlight award

Robert Robby Carl Takac, Jr. is an American rock bassist and vocalist. Takac is one of the members of the Goo Goo Dolls. Takac was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in the Buffalo suburb of West Seneca with his parents and he graduated from West Seneca East Senior High School in 1982. He graduated from Medaille College with a degree in Communications, with an emphasis on Radio Broadcasting, in his college years, he played in several bands and interned and worked at a local Buffalo radio station. In 2008, Takac was named to the Medaille College Board of Trustees, Robby and his wife of many years Miyoko have a 4-year old daughter together named Hanna, who was born on January 22,2012. He is also a fan of Japanese culture and often follows in Japanese customs, in addition, he is an avid collector of PEZ dispensers having collected close to 2000 of them. Takac began his career as a member of the rock band Monarch, prior to joining the Beaumonts. He met guitarist John Rzeznik through the Beaumonts and together they found a drummer, George Tutuska and started a band which named the Sex Maggots, with Takac as the lead singer. In 1986, they changed their name to the more promotable Goo Goo Dolls, in late 1994, Takac and Rzeznik fired their first drummer, George Tutuska, and in early 1995 hired Mike Malinin as a replacement. Later that year received their first commercial success with the single Name. The 1998 follow-up Iris reached number one on charts, including the Hot 100 Airplay. Goo Goo Dolls have been releasing music and touring continuously since, in 2009, the band recorded Something for the Rest of Us in Buffalo, New York, at their studio Inner Machine Studios. That year, Takac opened the studio to the public as GCR Audio, in 2003, Takac joined with Brian Schulmeister to form the dance music collective Amungus. That same year, Takac started his own record label Good Charamel Records in Buffalo, with an initial focus on local acts, the first three bands signed to the label were Klear, The Juliet Dagger, and Last Conservative. Today the label primarily releases J-Rock music in North America by female-fronted bands such as Shonen Knife, Tsushimamire, Lazy Guns Brisky, Pinky Doodle Poodle, in 2004, Takac founded the Music is Art Festival, a not-for-profit organization, and operates as their President. MiA seeks to explore and reshape musics cultural, social, Takac primarily plays Yamaha BB-series bass guitars, but he has also played Fender and Zon bass guitars

It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by blues, rhythm and blues and country music. The basic rock instrumentation was adapted from the blues band instrumentation. A group of musicians performing rock music is termed a rock band or rock group, Rock music is traditionally built on a foundation of simple unsyncopated rhythms in a 4/4 meter, with a repetitive snare drum back beat on beats two and four. Melodies are often derived from older musical modes, including the Dorian and Mixolydian, harmonies range from the common triad to parallel fourths and fifths and dissonant harmonic progressions. Critics have stressed the eclecticism and stylistic diversity of rock, because of its complex history and tendency to borrow from other musical and cultural forms, it has been argued that it is impossible to bind rock music to a rigidly delineated musical definition. Iris is a song by American alternative rock band Goo Goo Dolls. Originally written for the soundtrack of the 1998 film City of Angels, Iris has contributed greatly to the bands success. The songs time signature alternates between 44 and 68, and features a guitar tuning in which most of the strings are tuned to D. Upon its release, Iris became second of a string of hits from the soundtrack, City of Angels. It was released in 2002 on Warner Bros and it is the follow up to their critically successful albums Dizzy Up the Girl and A Boy Named Goo. The album was successful upon its release, hitting #4 on the Billboard 200. All tracks written by Johnny Rzeznik, except where noted, here Is Gone and Big Machine have been the only two songs released from this album as singles and videos have been created for both. A video for the promotional single Sympathy was also released, john Rzeznik refers to this as his disco song. I’m really horrible at programming drum machines, but this was like pattern 74 on my drum machine, I called all my friends and said, Check this out, this is my disco song. He describes it as a tale of unrequited love. Big Machine was occasionally performed live on a smashed Stratocaster guitar that Rzeznik has fondly nicknamed The Half-Caster, despite being smashed in half, it still plays. It can be seen in a 2002 VH1 Storytellers special, Rzeznik stated that he had someone fix it up and it works just fine. John Rzeznik wrote this song on the phone talking to a friend. He asked his friend if he should take the chords up or take em down, and the friend told him to take em up and thats how he came up with the chorus and the rest of the song came together shortly thereafter. According to Rzeznik in 2007, the video for this song cost more to produce than the entire Gutterflower album itself, upon release, Gutterflower received generally positive reviews from critics. Give a Little Bit is the opening song on Supertramps 1977 album Even in the Quietest Moments. The song was released as a single that year and became an international hit for the band. It was a hit in the bands native UK, reaching number 29 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was re-released in 1992 to raise funds for the ITV Telethon Charity event and its writing credits are given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, although it is a Hodgson composition. Hodgson and Davies shared writing credits from 1974 until 1983, when Hodgson left Supertramp, the song is characterized by the ringing tones of 12-string acoustic guitars, which is joined by a Hohner Clavinet through a Leslie speaker in the bridge of the song. Drummer Bob Siebenberg recounted that Roger had been working at Malibu for quite a while on this tune, id hear the song in hotel rooms and places like that. He had the song on a tape when I first joined the band so I was quite familiar with the tune. We tried out various things and it seemed right to ride it along on the snare drum. Giving it something almost like a train beat, so its all on the snare and bass drum, with no tom-tom fills or anything. A short snippet of the song is played in the film Superman shortly before Lois Lanes death scene, the song, however, is not featured on the movies soundtrack. The song was used interwoven with the scenes and part of the end credits for the Ricky Gervais 2009 film The Invention of Lying. The song was used in 2014 for Stouffers, Coca-Colas Share Happiness commercials, give a Little Bit was recorded to be released on the live album Paris, but the song was dropped because the band members found all the available recordings of the song to be of unacceptable quality. After Hodgson had left Supertramp, it was included in almost all his live performances, the song has also been performed by Hodgson during his tour with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band in 2001, a recording appears on the album Ringo Starr and Friends. On Sunday 1 July 2007, Roger Hodgson sang this song as his finale for his set at the Concert for Diana. The recording process took place during the spring to fall of 2009 in the GCR Audio studio in Buffalo and Paramount Studios as well as the Ark in Los Angeles, with producer Tim Palmer. Several producers were brought in to assist on the process, including Butch Vig, John Fields, Paul David Hager. Something for the Rest of Us is the third Goo Goo Dolls studio album that Cavallo has produced, I wanna do something better, go deeper. I also wanted to have a life with my girlfriend for a while, I owed it to her to spend some time with her and be normal and be in one place. In one of the Ustream sessions, Robby revealed that the album will have 12 songs, in late May, John announced that Home would be the first single and was released onto radio and iTunes stores on June 8,2010. On July 13,2010, it was announced on the fan club website, Inner Machine. The EP is titled Waiting for the Rest of It and it contains 4 new songs from Something for the Rest of Us plus a recording of Broadway from the Something for the Rest of Us Tour. One particular song on the album is called “Notbroken. ”I got a letter from a woman whose husband was in Iraq and he was injured – paralyzed – and he doesnt want to come home. He wants to stay in the hospital, and she just wants to let him know that hes still everything that she ever wanted. I dont know, it just kind of came out and its kind of like I was writing a love letter to him on her behalf. These are really hard, trying times, and the way that affects people and their families, people losing their jobs and everythings so insecure, I just wanted to say something about that. Something for the Rest of Us has received mixed to favorable reviews, collating 8 reviews, the review aggregator website Metacritic gave the album an average score of 59%, which indicated a mixed or average response. Magnetic is the tenth studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls, released on June 11,2013, through Warner Bros. The album is available on CD, Vinyl and as a digital download, the recording process took place during the latter half of 2012 and into early 2013. Rzeznik thought of the title during a phone conversation with his manager. Magnetic was the first word that came to Rzezniks mind and this is the last album to feature drummer Mike Malinin who left the band in December 2013. During an interview with UpVenue on February 16,2011, Rzeznik confirmed that he had been writing new material for a new album during the Something for the Rest of Us Tour. On August 9,2012, the announced that it had started recording its tenth studio album. In a column for Japanese Rock magazine InRock, Robby Takac revealed some details about recording sessions for the new album, the new album is scheduled for an early 2013 release on the Warner Brothers record label. The band will use multiple producers like it did on Something for the Rest of Us, in August and September it had various recording sessions with John Shanks at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA and in October 2012 with Gregg Wattenberg at Quad Studios in New York City. More recording sessions are planned with Greg Wells in Los Angeles in November 2012, on January 18,2013, the band released the first single from Magnetic entitled Rebel Beat. Later on February 15,2013, the Goo Goo Dolls tweeted an exclusive first look at the Magnetic album cover, on April 3,2013, the band announced that the release date would be pushed back from May 7 to June 11. More than a month later on July 19,2013, the Goo Goo Dolls announced its second single from Magnetic will be Come to Me, the album was released in high resolution on HDtracks. com in 2013. True Detective is an American true crime magazine published from 1924 to 1995. It initiated the true crime genre, and during its peak from the 1940s to the early 1960s it sold millions of copies. True Detective Mysteries was founded in 1924 by publisher Bernarr Macfadden and it initially focused on mystery fiction, with a mix of non-fiction crime stories. In the 1930s, Macfadden realized the popularity of the non-fiction pieces, as such, True Detective Mysteries became the first true crime magazine. In 1941, Macfadden changed the name to True Detective, emphasizing the magazines move away from mystery fiction, True Detectives non-fiction stories retained some of the tone and style of noir fiction and mystery writing, laying the ground for subsequent true crime genre conventions. The magazine had few ambitions to purvey serious literature, although it did publish early work by respected writers like Dashiell Hammett, Jim Thompson, and Ann Rule, among others. It appealed to the working class audience as its pulp fiction competitors and became a massive hit. MacFadden created a publication, Master Detective, and around 200 other true crime magazines emerged by the 1960s. Within the genre, True Detective was regarded as the bearer of quality and reliability. The pulp magazine industry declined in the 1960s, being out-competed by television, many magazines went out of business, but True Detective continued publication, though with increasingly sensational and sexualized content and declining quality. CBGB was a New York City music club opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal in Manhattans East Village. The club was previously a bar and before that was a dive bar. From the early 1980s onward, CBGB was known for hardcore punk, one storefront beside CBGB became the CBGB Record Canteen, a record shop and café. In the late 1980s, CBGB Record Canteen was converted into an art gallery and second performance space, on the other side, CBGB was operating a small cafe and bar in the mid-1990s, which served classic New York pizza, among other items. The club closed upon its final concert, played by Patti Smith, CBGB Radio launched on the iheartradio platform in 2010, and CBGB music festivals began in 2012. In 2013, CBGBs onetime building,315 Bowery, was added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of the National Bowery Historic District. CBGB was founded in December 1973 on the site of Kristals earlier bar, Hillys on the Bowery, initially, Kristal focused on his more profitable East Village nightspot, Hillys, which Kristal closed amid complaints from the bars neighbors. After Hillys closure, Kristal focused on the Bowery club and its full name — CBGB & OMFUG — stands for Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers. Although a gormandizer is usually a ravenous eater of food, what Kristal meant is a voracious eater of, Kristals intended theme of country, bluegrass, and blues music along with poetry readings yielded to the American movement in punk rock. A pioneer in the genre, the Ramones played their first shows at CBGB, in 1973, while the future CBGB was still Hillys, two locals—Bill Page and Rusty McKenna—convinced Kristal to let them book concerts. In February 1974, Hilly booked local band Squeeze to a residency, playing Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Squeeze was led by guitarist Mark Suall, later with CBGBs virtual house band the Revelons, which included Fred Smith of Television and JD Daugherty of the Patti Smith Group. Although these bands did not play punk rock, they helped lay its foundation, the August 1973 collapse of the Mercer Arts Center left unsigned bands little option in New York City to play original music. Mercer refugees—including Suicide, The Fast, Wayne County, and the Magic Tramps—soon played at CBGB, in 1974, on April 14, in the audience of Televisions third gig were Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye, whose Patti Smith Group debuted at CBGB on February 14,1975. Other early performers included the Dina Regine Band, dennis Lepri was lead guitarist as well as the Stillettos which included Deborah Harry on vocals. Freddys Dead, The Final Nightmare is a 1991 American 3D slasher film and the sixth film in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. As the title suggests, it was intended to be the last film in the series, however and it is the sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street 5, The Dream Child and is followed by Wes Cravens New Nightmare, which takes place outside the series canon. This was New Line Cinemas first film released in 3-D, upon its release, the film received a poor critical reception. Robert Englund reprises his role as Freddy Krueger, Lisa Zane, Yaphet Kotto, Breckin Meyer, Shon Greenblatt, Ricky Dean Logan, Lezlie Deane and Tobe Sexton also star. Additionally, several actors make cameo appearances in the film, including Johnny Depp, Roseanne Barr, Tom Arnold. Iggy Pop sings the song, which plays over a montage of scenes from the previous Nightmare films during the end credits. In 1999, Freddy Krueger has returned and killed every child and teenager in the town of Springwood, Ohio, excluding Alice Johnson and her son Jacob. John and Maggie visit Springwood Orphanage and discover that Freddy had a child, John believes he is the child because Freddy allowed him to live. Back on Elm Street, Carlos and Spencer fall asleep and are killed by Freddy, Tracy is awakened by Maggie, but John, who went into the dream world with Tracy to try to help Spencer, is still asleep. Maggie and Tracy take him back to the shelter, on their way back, Krueger kills John in his dream, but not before revealing that Kruegers kid is a girl. As John dies, he reveals this information to Maggie, Tracy and Maggie return to the shelter, but they discover that no one remembers John, Spencer, or Carlos except for Doc, who has learned to control his dreams. Maggie remembers what John told her and discovers her own adoption papers and her birth name was Katherine Krueger. Her name was changed to Maggie Burroughs Doc discovers Freddys power comes from the dream demons who continually revive him. It was established in 1978 by Gil Moore of the Canadian rock group Triumph, over a span of more than 30 years, Metalworks has become one of Canadas best recording studios and is the 17 time recipient of Canadian Music Weeks Studio of the Year. Since 1978 Metalworks Studios, has expanded into a six studio facility offering in-house tracking, mixing and mastering, as well as video editing, in 2004, Metalworks Studios launched an adjacent educational facility, Metalworks Institute. Mississauga /ˌmɪsɪˈsɒɡə/ is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Situated in Southern Ontario, it lies on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Peel and it is part of the Greater Toronto Area, to the west of Toronto. The city has a population of 721,599 as of the Canada 2016 Census, a suburb of Toronto, Mississaugas growth is attributed to its proximity to that city. It is the largest suburb in Anglo-America by population, in recent decades, the city has attracted a multicultural population and has plans for developing its downtown core. Residents of the city are called Mississaugans or Saugans, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canadas busiest airport, is located in the city, and it is the location of many major corporate headquarters for Canada. At the time of the arrival of the Europeans in the 1600s, One of the First Nations groups the French traders found around the Credit River area were the Algonquian Mississaugas, a tribe originally from the Georgian Bay area. The name Mississauga comes from the Anishinaabe word Misi-zaagiing, meaning Great River-mouth, by 1700 the Mississaugas had driven away the Iroquois, yet during the Beaver Wars they played a neutral or post-emptive role. Toronto Township, consisting of most of present-day Mississauga, was formed on 2 August 1805 when officials from York purchased 84,000 acres of land from the Mississaugas. In January 2010, the Mississaugas and the government settled a land claim, in which the band of aboriginal people received $145,000,000, as just compensation for their land. The original villages settled included, Lakeview, Clarkson, Cooksville, Dixie, Erindale, Lorne Park, Port Credit, Sheridan and this region would become known as Toronto Township. Part of northeast Mississauga, including the Airport lands and Malton were part of Toronto Gore Township, a group of settlers from New York City arrived in the 1830s. The government wanted to compensate the Loyalists for property lost in the colonies, in 1820, the government purchased additional land from the Mississaugas. Additional settlements were established, including, Barbertown, Britannia, Burnhamthorpe, Derry West, Elmbank, Malton, Meadowvale Village, Mount Charles, european-Canadian growth led to the eventual displacement of the Mississaugas. In 1847, the government relocated them to a reserve in the Grand River Valley, in 1873, in light of the continued growth seen in this area much as a result of the many railway lines passing through the township which spurred on industry. The Toronto Township Council was formed to oversee the affairs of the villages that were unincorporated at that time. The Councils responsibilities included road maintenance, and the constitution of a police force, in the 1920s, cottages were constructed along the shores of Lake Ontario as weekend getaway houses for city dwellers. 17 years later in 1937,1,410.8 acres of land was sold to build the Malton Airport and it became Canadas busiest airport which also put the end to the community of Elmbank. Paul Westerberg

Paul Harold Westerberg is an American musician, best known as the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter in The Replacements, one of the seminal alternative rock bands of the 1980s. He launched a career after the dissolution of that band. In recent years, he has cultivated a more independent-minded approach, in the late 1970s Westerberg was working as a janitor for U. S. Senator David Durenberger, and one day while walking home from work and he talked his way into the band by convincing the singer that the other band members – Bob Stinson, Chris Mars and Tommy Stinson – were going to fire him. The singer quit and Westerberg joined the group, the Replacements quickly made a name for themselves in the Twin Cities punk scene, largely thanks to Westerbergs songwriting and their classic-rock-friendly punk presentation. The band made several critically acclaimed albums for local label Twin/Tone before signing to Sire Records in 1985, despite the jump to Sire, the Replacements never translated their critical success into commercial sales. The band broke up in 1991 and their final album, All Shook Down, was for all intents and purposes a Westerberg solo project. There are numerous guest performers and the three members of the band made minimal contributions. Mars left the band soon after the album was released, after touring for the album with replacement Replacements, Westerberg and Stinson went their separate ways. The following year, Reprise Records released his first solo album 14 Songs, during the interim between solo albums, Westerberg songs appeared on Melrose Place and Friends television soundtracks, in 1994 and 1995 respectively. In 2007, Dyslexic Heart was used in Smart People movie trailer, Westerberg co-wrote the song Backlash with Joan Jett for her 1991 album Notorious, and played guitar with her on a video of the song. He also recorded a duet with Jett for the Tank Girl soundtrack, in 1996, he released his second solo album, the appropriately titled Eventually, which was tepidly received by critics and had modest sales. It did yield the alternative hit, Love Untold. Westerberg parted ways with Reprise Records and the following year chose to release songs that were more blues-influenced, an EP and single were released by indie label Soundproof/Monolyth Records. His third album, Suicaine Gratifaction, is a piano-driven, melancholy, the album was released on Capitol Records in 1999. The label was undergoing reorganization, and failed to push the album, Westerberg appeared on a fifth season episode of The Larry Sanders Show performing Aint Got Me from Eventually. The episode first aired on February 26,1997, Westerberg also performed the song that same year on The Tonight Show hosted by Jay Leno. Westerberg then quit the major label circuit and disappeared for three years before staging a comeback in 2002

The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979. Initially a punk band, they are considered pioneers of alternative rock. The band was composed of the guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson, following several acclaimed albums, including Let It Be and Tim, Bob Stinson left the band in 1986, and Slim Dunlap joined as lead guitarist. Steve Foley replaced Mars in 1990, towards the end of the bands career, Westerberg exerted more control over the creative output. The group disbanded in 1991, with the members ultimately pursuing various projects, a reunion was announced on October 3,2012. The Replacements never had significant commercial success, except for Ill Be You, which hit No.1 on the Alt Rock Billboard listing, unlike many of their underground contemporaries, the Replacements played heart-on-the-sleeve rock songs that combined Westerbergs raw-throated adolescent howl with self-deprecating lyrics. The Replacements were a notoriously wayward live act often performing under the influence of alcohol, the Replacements history began in Minneapolis in 1978, when nineteen-year-old Bob Stinson gave his eleven-year-old brother Tommy Stinson a bass guitar to keep him off the streets. That year Bob met Mars, a school dropout. With Mars playing guitar and then switching to drums, the trio called themselves Dogbreath and began covering songs by Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, One day as Westerberg, a janitor in U. S. Senator David Durenbergers office, was walking home from work, he heard a band playing in the Stinsons house, after being impressed by the bands performance, Westerberg regularly listened in after work. Mars knew Westerberg and invited him over to jam, Westerberg was unaware Mars drummed in Dogbreath. Dogbreath auditioned several vocalists, including a hippie who read lyrics off a sheet, the band eventually found a vocalist however, Westerberg wanted to be the singer and took him aside one day to say, The band doesnt like you. The vocalist soon left and Westerberg replaced him, before Westerberg joined the band, Dogbreath often drank and took various drugs during rehearsals, playing songs as an afterthought. In contrast to the rest of the band, the relatively disciplined Westerberg appeared at rehearsals in neat clothes, after being banned from the venue for disorderly behavior, they changed the name to the Replacements. The band soon recorded a demo tape in Marss basement. Jesperson was the manager of Oar Folkjokeopus, a rock record store in Minneapolis. Westerberg originally handed in the tape to see if the band could perform at Jays Longhorn Bar and he eavesdropped as Jesperson put in the tape, only to run away as soon as the first song, Raised in the City, played. 120 Minutes is a television show in the United States dedicated to the alternative music genre, originally airing on MTV from 1986 to 2000, and then on MTVs sister channel MTV2 from 2001 to 2003. After its cancellation, MTV2 premiered a replacement show called Subterranean, a similar but separate MTV Classic program, also titled 120 Minutes, plays many classic alternative videos that were regularly seen on 120 Minutes in its heyday. 120 Minutes returned as a series on MTV2 on July 30,2011. 120 Minutes began on March 10,1986, rage Against The Machine, Hüsker Dü, The Offspring, The Original Sins and Bad Religion. Nirvanas music video for Smells Like Teen Spirit received a premiere on 120 Minutes. For a time in the mid-1990s, a program called Alternative Nation aired every weeknight on MTV. As time went on, and MTV found shows like The Real World immensely profitable, in 2001, the show returned to the airwaves on MTV2, where it returned to the style of music it was known for. On May 4,2003, the show was canceled with no announcement from MTV2. Jim Shearer, the current host at the time, shared the screen with the creator of 120 Minutes, Dave Kendall, as well as Matt Pinfield. The two classic era hosts shared their favorite videos from over the years, finally ending with the selection of Siouxsie,120 Minutes made its return to MTV2 on July 31,2011, at 1 am ET. Matt Pinfield reprised his role as the host and the show is formally called 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield, the show initially aired on a monthly basis, but returned to a weekly format in late November 2011. It aired Fridays 6AM-8AM on MTV2,120 Minutes also aired as a two-minute clip in a series called 120 Seconds which can be seen on MTVhive. com. 120 Minutes was taken off the MTV2 schedule without announcement, the last airing was February 1,2013. A two-hour indie block called Artists to Watch took its slot during the same Friday 7AM-9AM ET block, however, that show has stopped airing as of May 2013. The following MTV VJs hosted 120 Minutes on a regular basis, Artists included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Echo & the Bunnymen, Julian Cope, R. E. M. Sinéad OConnor, Ministry, Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth and Violent Femmes, the title referenced the Sex Pistols landmark album Never Mind the Bollocks, but fortuitously recalled the title of Nirvanas Nevermind album which was released near-simultaneously. Paul Montgomery Pauly Shore is an American actor, comedian, director, writer and producer. Shore is best known for his roles in comedy films in the 1990s including Encino Man, Son in Law. He also hosted a show on MTV in the late 1980s. Shores acting career has declined since the late 1990s, he has appeared only infrequently in a number of films and has primarily focused on stand-up comedy. Shore was born Paul Montgomery Shore, the son of Mitzi Shore, who founded The Comedy Store, and Sammy Shore, Shore was raised Jewish, and grew up in Beverly Hills, California. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1986, inspired by his parents work in comedy and show business, a 17-year-old Shore made his stand-up debut at the Alley Cat Bistro in Culver City. Everyone else in school was filling out their SAT applications, but I just passed mine back, I knew I wasnt going to go to college. Shore was mentored by Sam Kinison and opened several of his sets, while touring the comedy club circuit, Shore cultivated an alter ego persona, The Weasel. The Weasel involved Shore speaking in a surfer parlance, heavily peppered with dudespeak slang such as edged, melons and grinding as well as his catchphrase, Hey, Shores big break came as an on-air MTV VJ, a position he held from 1989 to 1994. At the height of his MTV fame, Shore had his own show, Totally Pauly and he also released a music video, Lisa, Lisa, the One I Adore. In 1992, Shore starred in Encino Man, which was a modest hit, the films success propelled Shore to star in additional personalized vehicles, albeit less successful, Son in Law, In the Army Now, Jury Duty, and Bio-Dome. In 1997, Shore starred in the eponymous TV show Pauly, Shore makes a cameo appearance in the American rock band Limp Bizkit music video N2 Gether Now, as a pizza deliveryman, and a briefer appearance in Break Stuff. In 2003, Shore produced, wrote, directed and starred in Pauly Shore Is Dead, a semi-autobiographical mockumentary, in 2010, Shore starred in Adopted, which sees him traveling to Africa to adopt a child. Son in Law is a 1993 American comedy film starring Pauly Shore, Carla Gugino, Lane Smith, Cindy Pickett, Tiffani Thiessen, Patrick Renna, Dan Gauthier and Dennis Burkley. This film has a plot to 1989 Indian film Maine Pyar Kiya. Rebecca Warner moves from her small town in South Dakota to attend college in Los Angeles at California State University. On her first day, she and her parents Walter and Connie meet Crawl, when Thanksgiving break approaches, Becca realizes that Crawl has nowhere to go, and she invites him to visit her family. At dinner, Becca realizes that Travis wants to marriage to her. Unable to come up with anything off the cuff, Crawl tells them that he has already proposed and this upsets Beccas family who develops a disdain for Crawl, and Travis who becomes so jealous he punches Crawl in the face. Crawl rebounds though, and begins to prove himself an avid farmer and he also begins to endear himself to the rest of the family, he impresses Beccas little brother Zack with his computer skills, and Zack begins to see him as a big brother. He compliments Connies appearance and helps to bring her out of her shell for Walter, and when Walters father Walter Sr. has heart problems, Crawl tries to help by performing CPR. Walter Senior quickly recovers when he see Crawl atop him, while shopping for clothes, Crawl meets Tracy, a friend of Beccas from school. Rebecca furiously calls off the wedding, but Crawl and Tracy cant defend themselves as they remember the night before. Crawl leaves to head back to L. A. while Travis--who had been seeing Tracy on the side--berates her on her behavior the night before. When she gets in her car though, she finds the seat suspiciously left all the way back, picking up Crawl attempting to hitchhike, they return to the house and confront Travis and Theo while the Warners are sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. Hoping to get out of trouble, Theo confesses that they drugged them, Becca stands up to Travis, who is immediately knocked down by Crawl who reveals he majored in karate for two semesters at school. After kicking Travis and Theo out, Tracy is invited to sit with the Warners while Walter offers his son-in-law a chance to cut the turkey, the promotional poster for the film is a parody of the painting American Gothic. The opening title sequence and graduation ceremony scene were filmed at Wasco High School, located in Wasco, to promote the film, MTV ran a contest to marry Pauly Shore in Las Vegas. Tanya Cinotti of Salisbury, Massachusetts, won the honor and the wedding was set for July 2,1993, though there was a ceremony, no marriage certificates were signed. Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 21% based on reviews from 19 critics, the Los Angeles Times suggests the film is trying to be a comedy version of Guess Whos Coming to Dinner although the lead character is genuinely a destructive jerk. The film is given some praise for its bright surface, brisk direction and even a few funny performances but the reviewer bemoans laborious innuendoes

It is the first of five television series in the Beverly Hills,90210 franchise. The show was created by Darren Star and executive producers Charles Rosin followed in later seasons by Aaron Spelling, E. Duke Vincent, Paul Waigner, Steve Wasserman, the 90210 in the title refers to one of the citys five ZIP codes. Beverly Hills,90210 was named one of the Best School Shows of All Time by AOL TV, the series became one of Foxs top shows when it began its next season that fall. The show also had many cast changes, with Garth, Spelling, Ian Ziering, the show followed the dramatic lives of its characters through high school, college, and ultimately the adult world, while introducing several additional characters as its seasons progressed. It is the show produced by Aaron Spelling, airing slightly longer than Dynasty. Shannen Doherty left the show at the end of the fourth season, dohertys character, Brenda Walsh, was written off the show as moving to London to attend school at the Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts. While the characters absence was originally described as only being for a year, she never returned and she was replaced with former Saved by the Bell star Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, who played the bad-girl character Valerie Malone. Dohertys departure from the show would be the longest the continuity had seen with a lead cast member not making another guest appearance after they had left the show. Spanning for a time of 14 years, Brenda Walsh was not seen in any 90210 incarnation until September 2,2008, in which she reprised her role in the CWs spinoff,90210. Doherty appeared as Brenda Walsh in the 2008 spin-off series,90210, along with former costars Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Ann Gillespie, Gabrielle Carteris left the show following the fifth season. Her character, Andrea Zuckerman, changed radically from high school to college, in high school, Andrea was the brainy editor of the West Beverly Blaze, had a crush on Brandon, and secretly lived out of district. During the fourth season, Andrea becomes pregnant, and gets married to someone she knows before the year is out. Her plot lines chronicled the struggles of trying to juggle college, marriage, the character eventually headed to Yale University. After her original five-year contract ended, Carteris voluntarily left the show for her own self-titled talk show, Carteris returned to the show for guest appearances during the sixth, eighth and tenth seasons. Both actors left the following the fifth season at the end of their original five-year contracts. During the high school years of the show, Jim and Cindy Walsh played secondary roles, offering advice to Brenda and Brandon, along with their friends and they generally spent most of their time reacting to various things that Brenda, Brandon and later Valerie did. Following the fifth season, both characters left Beverly Hills for Hong Kong, making occasional guest appearances in the sixth, seventh and eighth seasons, even though all the Walshes eventually left the show, the Walsh home continued to play a central role in the series.
