The home secretary is the administrative head of the Ministry of Home Affairs. This post is held by a senior IAS officer of the rank of Secretary to Government of India. The current Home Secretary is Ajay Kumar Bhalla. All Central Forces including the CRPF, CISF, BSF and Central Police Organizations are under the Union Home Secretary.

Rajiv Mehrishi was born on 8 August 1955 in Rajasthan. He was the 13th Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) and Vice Chairman of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors. He is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1978 batch belonging to the Rajasthan cadre.
