István Friedrich was a Hungarian politician, footballer and factory owner who served as prime minister of Hungary for three months between August and November in 1919. His tenure coincided with a period of political instability in Hungary immediately after World War I, during which several successive governments ruled the country.

The former Austro-Hungarian admiral Miklós Horthy was the main rival for power in Hungary. Dominator of the Army, he had less political support than Friedrich, but knew how to progressively displace the government and power.
Malacky is a town and municipality in western Slovakia around 35 kilometres north of Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. From the second half of the 10th century until 1918, it was part of the Kingdom of Hungary.
