José María Bakero Escudero is a Spanish former professional footballer, currently a manager. Having played mainly for Real Sociedad and Barcelona, he began his career as a forward but was converted into an attacking midfielder, possessing passing and scoring ability and great leadership skills.

The Republic of Ireland international John Aldridge was Real Sociedad's first non-Basque player, and was the club's top scorer during both of his seasons from 1989 to 1991
