Kiowa County, Colorado

Kiowa County is one of the 64 counties in the U. S. state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,398, making it the fifth-least populous county in Colorado; the county seat is Eads. The county was named for the Kiowa Nation of Native Americans. On November 29, 1864, more than a decade before Colorado became a state and long before Kiowa County was formed, a massacre of Native Americans, a group of old men and children, occurred on Sand Creek, greeted as a victory in the Colorado War against hostile Indians, it happened in what is now Kiowa County, is known as the Sand Creek Massacre. Territorial Governor John Evans lost his job for his part in setting up the incident, Colonel John Chivington, commander of the U. S. forces, was castigated by the United States Congress and the scandal followed him for the rest of his life. Evans would go on to make significant important contributions to the early Denver community and while Chivington made some, his reputation remained tainted while Evans is still honored today.

In 2005, final land acquisitions by the National Park Service allowed official designation of the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, but no park facilities have yet been erected. Only a plaque in the ground acknowledges the site, it appears that this stone plaque is located in the wrong place. In the late 1880s, eastern Colorado attracted a lot of attention by farming interests who didn't yet know that long-term agriculture was unsustainable in this arid landscape, the railroads were snaking west across the plains towards the gold fields of the Rocky Mountains during the Colorado Gold Rush; the Missouri Pacific Railroad crossed into what would soon become Kiowa County, Colorado from Kansas in 1887. Several small camps for railroad workers were established just over the border from Kansas, beginning after the town of Sheridan Lake, new towns and camps were sequentially named, starting with "A" and proceeding westward along the railroad line. Arden, Chivington, Eads, Galatea, Inman and Kilburn appeared one after another, some developing into towns, others being only a pipe dream in the eyes of developers.

Chivington was intended as a major watering stop for the railroad, but the water was too alkaline to use and the trains instead stopped in Kansas to tank up. The hotel was soon torn down, its materials shipped to other Colorado locations to use in constructing other facilities — a common occurrence in late 19th century Colorado, as boom towns went bust. Kiowa County was established in 1889, taking its name from the Kiowa Indians who lived in eastern Colorado before the Europeans arrived. Sheridan Lake was the county seat of Kiowa County, was not at first a stop on the railroad line; the county seat moved to rival Eads in 1902. Agriculture in eastern Colorado collapsed in the dust bowl days of the 1930s. Colorado's Front Range cities and agriculture interests upstream have acquired most of the water rights, the groundwater aquifers are drying up. Kiowa County faces further economic decline, it is conceivable that much of the county will revert to its original sparse grassland and prairie conditions of the pre-1880s.

Today Eads, along the old railroad line, is the largest town in the county. It is the Kiowa county seat, serves the surviving farming and ranching interests, hosts the county's largest high school. Sheridan Lake does have a combined junior-and-senior high, still surviving in some form are the towns of Towner, Brandon and Haswell. According to the U. S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,786 square miles, of which 1,768 square miles is land and 18 square miles is water. Significant drainage basins in the county are Adobe-Johns Creek and Mustang Creek which drain the county's western part, Rush Creek and Big Sandy Creek in the central part and Wildhorse and White Woman Creeks in the eastern part; the draws tend to be intermittent, however Adobe-Johns and Big Sandy Creeks have small continuous flows during wetter years. Each of these creeks drain to the Arkansas River. Bada Rajan

Rajan Mahadev Nair, popularly known in the Mumbai underworld by his moniker Bada Rajan was an Indian mobster and underworld don from Mumbai, who operated a gang active in Mumbai's eastern suburbs of Ghatkopar, Tilak Nagar and Chembur. On 21 September 1983, he was shot dead by the Pathan gang because he had helped Dawood Ibrahim by instructing a gang member David Pardeshi to shoot dead Amirzada from the Pathan gang. Rajan Nair lived in a slum in Ghatkopar in the east Mumbai, he worked in a small factory in Thane. With mounting expenses and greed for excess money and to get the attention of love of his life, he got into the habit of stealing branded typewriters and selling them in Chor Bazaar. Once he was accidentally arrested by a police team in search of another criminal and served imprisonment; when he was released, he took to full time crime in Ghatkopar black marketing of cinema tickets, spurious liquor and extortion from shop keepers. After a few years, a band of daring youngsters from neighbouring Tilak Nagar were released from jail.

They were imprisoned on the charges of cinema ticket black marketing and beating up the police who tried to stop them. That group was led by Rajendra Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan. To increase his muscle power and clout in the area, Nair welcomed Nikalje in his gang and they both were known as Bada Rajan and Chhota Rajan, they soon took over most of the crime in Mumbai's eastern suburbs of Ghatkopar, Pantnagar and Tilaknagar The early eighties saw a tectonic shift of power in the Mumbai underworld. Haji Mastan had stopped his smuggling activities and Karim Lala was focusing more on his hotel business; the vicious Pathan gang started by Karim Lala was weakened by a split between his nephew Samad Khan on one side and Dawood Ibrahim on the other. The third don, Varadarajan Mudaliar from Dharavi moved in to extend his hold over north-east Mumbai. Bada Rajan used his clout with Varadarajan to intimidate his victims and rivals like Abdul Kunju, Yeshwant Jadhav and Philip Pandhre. Just like his mentor, Bada Rajan started the Sahyadri Krida Mandal to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in his area.

In 1982, Samad Khan and his Pathan gangsters Amirzada and Alamzeb murdered Saabir Ibrahim, elder brother of Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood plotted revenge, he offered a big supari to kill Amirzada but nobody came forward. Bada Rajan accepted the supari, he had one of his junior gang member- an unemployed youth David Pardeshi shoot down Amirzada in the Mumbai sessions court on 6 September 1983. Malayali don Abdul Kunju had a long standing enmity with Bada Rajan, it all started when Bada Rajan sent his men to assault some youth in Shell Colony, for harassing a woman typist. This incident developed into a deadly rivalry with Kunju. Both Kunju and Rajan had sworn to kill each other. Aware of Rajan's enormous power in the areas between Ghatkopar and Matunga, Kunju realised that he could not fight the Rajan gang on his own. Therefore, he allied himself with Philip Pandhare. Pandhare's gang was further strengthened when Vijay Sawant and Francis Xavier known as "Shorty", from Pestom Sagar enlisted with them. After Amirzada Nawab Khan was assassinated outside the sessions court premises on 6 September 1983 by Bada Rajan's hitman, David Pardesi, Kunju switched sides and allied himself with Kalia Anthony and Mahesh Dolakia of the Karim Lala gang to murder Bada Rajan.

Kunju's neighbour, an autorickshaw driver named Chandrashekar Safalika, looking to make Rs. 5 million for his sister's wedding, was hired for the job. He was introduced to Mahesh Dholakia at Caesar Palace. Dholakia offered around Rs. 5 million as "supari" and promised to give the entire money on successful killing of Rajan. Safalika left with only Rs. 1,00,000. The next day, Kunju provided Safalika with a revolver, converted an isolated spot near Vikhroli Park site into a firing range, he was trained for the next 15 days by Mangesh More and Francis a.k.a.. "Kaliya Anthony". In a daring operation, Safalika dressed as a naval cadet with his gun hidden in the cavity of a thick book, stalked Bada Rajan outside the Esplanade court and shot him dead; the hit was carried out on 21 September 1983 15 days after Amirzada's murder. Safalika was caught on the spot, but managed to escape while he was being escorted to the Thane prison and was killed by the rivals later; the murder of Bada Rajan dealt a devastating blow to his gang.

His right hand man and successor, Chhota Rajan was shattered at the loss of his mentor and swore retribution against the assassins. It was well known that Abdul Kunju was a cricket enthusiast and managed a good-sized crowd to come and watch him play; this gave Chhota Rajan the opportunity to use Kunju's own passion against him. During one such match in 1985, as Kunju hit a boundary, three young gangsters dressed in T-shirts and sneakers, including Sanjay Raggad and Chhota Rajan himself, entered the arena on the pretext of retrieving the ball. After doing so, they walked right up to Kunju, pulled out their guns and shot him dead at point blank range. Another report suggests that Chota Rajan sent Sanjay Raggad and Vijay to shoot down Kunju when he was watching a volleyball match. On spotting the two assailants, Kunju fled the match venue with the duo in pursuit. Raggad and Vijay sprayed an array of bullets into Kunju's body that left him dead. After Kunju's death, Dolakia went back on his word and refused to deliver the remaining Rs. 4.90 million, leaving the now fugitive Safalika helpless and on his own.

The Jimmy Durante Show

The Jimmy Durante Show is a 51-episode half-hour comedy/variety television program presented live on NBC from October 2, 1954, to June 23, 1956. Several guest stars on the program developed successful show business careers of their own. Jimmy Durante's long nose and broken vocabulary were the mainstays of the program, which aired at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturdays. In the first 1954-1955 season, Durante alternated with The Donald O'Connor Show, both sponsored by Texaco. After his starring role on the NBC sitcom Dear Phoebe ended and before he garnered the lead in the NBC drama The Thin Man, Peter Lawford, a brother-in-law of U. S. President John F. Kennedy, was a Durante regular, having appeared in six episodes from 1955-1956. Dancer Eddie Jackson, a Durante partner along with Lou Clayton from their vaudeville days, appeared four times on the series. Pianist Jules Buffano and drummer Jack Roth, former Durante associates guest starred on the program, he had singers known as the Durante Girls. Flamboyant pianist Liberace was a guest three times.

Brazilian singer Carmen Miranda appeared twice on the show with Durante. During the August 4, 1955 broadcast, Miranda suffered a heart attack. Miranda fell to her knees while dancing with Durante, who instinctively told the band to "stop da music!" while helping her to get up. Miranda laughed "I'm all out of breath!", Durante replied, "Dat's OK, honey, I'll take yer lines." Miranda laughed again pulled herself together, finished the show. However, the next morning, Miranda died at her home from heart failure. Others who appeared with Durante were Pat Carroll, Marilyn Maxwell, George Jessel, Barbara Whiting Smith, George Raft, The Borden Twins; the series started in New York, moved to RKO Studios in Hollywood. The program was televised at Club Durant; each episode ended with Durante's catchphrase, "Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!", an apparent reference to Durante's deceased first wife. In the first season, Durante followed The Imogene Coca Show, which premiered on the same night on the NBC Saturday schedule.

His competition was My Favorite Husband on CBS and Saturday evening boxing on ABC. In its second season, Durante faced opposition from Janis Paige's new CBS situation comedy, It's Always Jan, about a young widow with two female roommates. Paige's attempt at network television failed after twenty-six weeks. Oddly, Bob Schiller was the principal writer on both the Paige series. Certain Durante episodes ran on NBC as a 1957 summer replacement series. With his 1954 debut, Durante took over the second half of the Your Show of Shows time slot. In 1957, Caesar's Hour, another version of the Sid Caesar program, moved into the time slot that Durante vacated. Public domain episode at Internet Archive

Does management compare the number of problems reported per day with the number of problems resolved per day?
