Billboard is an American entertainment media brand owned by the Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, a division of Eldridge Industries. It publishes pieces involving news, video, opinion, reviews, events and it is also known for its music charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, tracking the most popular singles and albums in different genres. It also hosts events, owns a publishing firm, and operates several TV shows, Billboard was founded in 1894 by William Donaldson and James Hennegan as a trade publication for bill posters. Donaldson later acquired Hennegens interest in 1900 for $500, in the 1900s, it covered the entertainment industry, such as circuses, fairs and burlesque shows. It also created a service for travelling entertainers. Billboard began focusing more on the industry as the jukebox, phonograph. Many topics it covered were spun-off into different magazines, including Amusement Business in 1961 to cover outdoor entertainment so that it could focus on music. After Donaldson died in 1925, Billboard was passed down to his children and Hennegans children, until it was sold to investors in 1985. The first issue of Billboard was published in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 1,1894 by William Donaldson, initially, it covered the advertising and bill posting industry and was called Billboard Advertising. At the time, billboards, posters and paper advertisements placed in public spaces were the means of advertising. Donaldson handled editorial and advertising, while Hennegan, who owned Hennegan Printing Co. managed magazine production, the first issues were just eight pages long. The paper had columns like The Bill Room Gossip and The Indefatigable, a department for agricultural fairs was established in 1896. The title was changed to The Billboard in 1897, after a brief departure over editorial differences, Donaldson purchased Hennegans interest in the business in 1900 for $500, to save it from bankruptcy. That May, Donaldson changed it from a monthly to a paper with a greater emphasis on breaking news. He improved editorial quality and opened new offices in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, London and he also re-focused the magazine on outdoor entertainment like fairs, carnivals, circuses, vaudeville and burlesque shows. A section devoted to circuses was introduced in 1900, followed by more prominent coverage of events in 1901. Billboard also covered topics including regulation, a lack of professionalism, economics and it had a stage gossip column covering the private lives of entertainers, a tent show section covering traveling shows and a sub-section called Freaks to order. Cristian Sáez Valdés Castro, referred to as Christian Castro or Cristian is a Mexican pop singer. Born in Mexico City, he is the son of renowned actress and singer Verónica Castro, Castro also has a younger brother named Michelle Sáez Castro, his uncle is José Alberto Castro and his aunt is Beatriz Castro, who both are producers. As a baby, he made his debut with her during the telenovela named El Derecho de Nacer. Soon after, he appeared on a commercial with her. Castro is one of the best selling Latin artists and has worked with renowned Latin producers including Kike Santander, Rudy Pérez, and Richard Daniel Roman. In 1984, Castro made his first appearance on TV as a singer in the Televisas child contest Juguemos a Cantar, Castro began his professional singing career in 1992 with the release of Agua Nueva. After appearing in several telenovelas and recording some albums as a teenager, Castro began his internationalization in 1993, starting with concerts in Puerto Rico. Castro dedicated a song to country in his second album, Un Segundo En El Tiempo. He also modified his singing voice from the voice he employed in Agua Nueva to a softer one that he currently uses. His song, Nunca Voy a Olvidarte, became his first number-one hit at the Hot Latin Tracks charts in 1993 helped launched his career, in 1994, Cristian released El Camino del Alma. The album hit, Mañana, meaning Tomorrow, a composed by Mexican singer, Juan Gabriel which was titled. In 1995, he was part of the compilation album Boleros, Por Amor y Desamor written and produced by Jorge Avendaño Luhrs, recording Vuélveme a Querer, which hit #2 on the Hot Latin Tracks. In 1996, Cristian released El Deseo De Oir Tu Voz which featured such as Morelia, Amor, Amarte a Ti. At the 9th Lo Nuestro Awards, Castro received a nomination for Male Pop Artist of the Year. Cristian has also done opening themes for such as Morelia Angela and Mujer De Madera In 1997, Castro left Fonovisa. Famous pianist Raúl di Blasio did the work for the song Después De Tí. ¿Qué. The album was nominated Best Latin Pop Album of the Year, following the albums success, Castro sang in duets with other singers such as Olga Tañón, Grupo Limite, and José Alfredo Jiménez. Nielsen Audio is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, the companys initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, deployed in New York City, it gave instant ratings data on what people were watching. A reporting board lit up to indicate which homes were listening to which broadcasts, on December 18,2012, The Nielsen Company announced that it would acquire Arbitron, its only competitor, for US$1.26 billion. The acquisition closed on September 30,2013, and the company was re-branded as Nielsen Audio, as a condition of the deal to allow a monopoly, Nielsen must license its ratings data and technology to a third party for eight years. The term commonly used in the industry for these ratings is Arbitron book. More specifically, in the diary-measured markets these reports were called the Spring book, Summer book, Fall book, between these books, Arbitron releases interim monthly reports called Arbitrends, which contain data from the previous three months known as rolling average reports. The two interim reports would be known, for example, as Spring, Phase I and Spring, Arbitron recruits diary survey respondents to note their listening habits in a seven-day paper diary and mail it back to Arbitron. The respondents are paid a cash incentive for their participation. Turnaround time for release of data from the end of the period is approximately three weeks. After collection, the data is marketed to radio broadcasters, radio networks, cable TV companies, advertisers, advertising agencies, out-of-home advertising companies, and the online radio industry. Major ratings products include cume, average quarter hour, time spent listening, and market breakdowns by age, gender and it is important to understand that the cume only counts a listener once, whereas the AQH is a product of cume and time spent listening. For example, if you looked into a room and saw Fred and Jane, the cume would be 3 and the AQH would be 2. The PPM is a portable device, much like a pager or mobile phone. Arbitron recruits and compensates a cross-section of consumers to wear the meter for an average of one year, the audience estimates generated from each monthly survey is used as the buy/sell currency for radio stations and advertisers/agencies. McQueen. He was raised with two siblings, Chabeli and Julio. His mother is Filipina and his father is Spanish, with family from Galicia and Andalusia and his father is of Jewish ancestry and has also claimed Puerto Rican ancestry on his mothers side. Bailamos is a Latin pop song from Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, sung in Spanglish. It was the single of Iglesias in the English-language market. In 1999 the song sold 5 million copies worldwide, Bailamos was written by Paul Barry and Mark Taylor and produced by Barry and Brian Rawling, the same team which wrote and produced Chers hit Believe. The track first appeared on an edition of his Spanish studio album Cosas del Amor and was released as a single in parts of Latin America. After attending one of Enriques concerts in March 1999, Will Smith asked Enrique to contribute to the soundtrack of his upcoming movie Wild Wild West, the song quickly became most requested on pop radio in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. Due to the popularity, it was released as a single throughout the world. In English, Bailamos means We Dance, or in this case, the single reached number one on the US pop charts, making it Iglesias first chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100. The Latin song Smooth by Carlos Santana released at the end of the year was one of the most successful songs in chart history and its immense success could, to some extent, be credited to Bailamos and other Latin pop songs during the era. Do You Know. is a song by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias. The songs Spanish version is entitled Dímelo and was released to Latin radio, in 2007 the song sold 3.1 million copies worldwide. Iglesias generally refers to the song as simply Do You Know. as it was his record labels insistence to add on The Ping Pong Song in parentheses to make it more distinctive and marketable. The instrumental backing tracks are based on sampled loops from the production company Bunker 8 Digital Labs. These samples include all of the tracks in Otiga Verde from the sample library. The opening piano, guitar riffs, and lead sound synthesizer which is heard throughout the song are directly lifted from the individual sample loops. Juan Luis Guerra Seijas, known professionally as Juan Luis Guerra, is a Dominican singer, songwriter, composer, and producer. He has sold over 30 million records, and has won awards including 18 Latin Grammy Awards. Guerra won 3 Latin Grammy Awards in 2010, including Album of the Year, in 2012, he won the Latin Grammy Award for Producer of the Year. Guerra is one of the most internationally recognized Latin artists of recent decades and his popular style of merengue and Afro-Latin fusion has garnered him considerable success throughout Latin America. Wisin & Yandel are a Puerto Rican reggaeton duo, composed of Juan Luis Morera Luna and Llandel Veguilla Malavé. Bailando is a song by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias for his tenth studio album Sex and Love. The original Spanish version features the Cuban artists Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, the song was written by all of the artists, while production was handled by Carlos Paucar. It was released by Universal Republic Records as the single from the record. In 2013 the song was finished by Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona without Iglesias vocals. They released a video and their own version became part of several compilation albums. As of 24 August 2014, there are three versions of the song that have been released to the music market besides the original Spanish version. The Spanglish version features Jamaican singer Sean Paul, the original Spanish version of Bailando served as the theme song of the soap opera Reina de Corazones which aired on Telemundo. Gente de Zona is a Cuban reggaeton group founded by Alexander Delgado in 2000. The group combines reggaeton rhythms with traditional forms of Cuban music. Gente de Zona found its first international success following their collaboration with Enrique Iglesias on his 2014 release Bailando, the track was awarded three Latin Grammy awards and received widespread international airplay. The group began in 2000 when several rappers met in Alamar, the name of the group, Gente D Zona, reflects their emergence from Alamar. Alexander Delgado then met Michel Delgado, El Karo, and both started playing at parties and official playrooms Guanabacoa, Regla and especially Alamar, the group quickly earned the support of the public in those areas, and soon started participating in international festivals. These were in addition to annual rap festivals in Cuba, where Alexander was responsible for the animation for three consecutive years. They later formed part of the Hermanos Saiz Association, and it is not until the year 2002 that Alexander started his career in the company Antonio María Romeu appearing around the country. In July 2005 Gente D Zona was still composed of Alexander and Michel and this led to a more mature genre of work, always mixing with Cuban rhythms, and considering market requirements. In 2005, Michel left the group, with the departure of Michel, Alexander called Jacob Forever, director of the non-professional group Made in Cuba who had done important work with Pachito Alonso and Eddy K, among others. Nando Pro also came to join as a producer and DJ. In March 2013, Gente D Zona announced the separation of Alexander, in 2014, Gente DZona joined Enrique Iglesias and Descemer Bueno to produce the outstanding successful theme, Bailando, which catapulted the group to the international arena. The song stayed in first place on international hits lists, noteworthily, in the U. S. market, in June 2014 it was located at number one in the Top Latin Songs. The group has also been successful in Europe, back in 2015, Gente de Zona published two songs that instantly became popular, “La Gozadera” and “Traidora”, both were in collaboration with Marc Anthony. On April 22 of 2016, their album entitled “Visualízate” was published under the label Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC and Magnus Media. Nick Rivera Caminero, known by the stage name Nicky Jam, is a singer and songwriter. He is best known for the song El Perdón and Hasta el Amanecer, Rivera was born to a Puerto Rican father and a Dominican mother. He later moved with his family to Barrio Obrero in Puerto Rico when he was ten years old and he has been in reggaeton since his youth. The name Nicky Jam was jokingly given to Rivera by a homeless man, riveras family was low-income and as a minor he performed illegal work in a grocery store in order to help support them, improvising while bagging groceries. One day a music executive noticed his talent and signed him, the album was not successful, but it did gain him recognition in the music industry, and warranted the attention of some music producers such as DJ Joe, DJ Playero and DJ Chiklin. After his first album, he continued working in the music industry, Daddy Yankee asked Rivera to work with him. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, they became friends and formed the unofficial Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam duo and they created many commercially successful singles including Sabanas Blancas, Guayando, Sentirte and many others. They also worked together on the album Los Super Amigos in 2000, in 2001, Daddy Yankee released El Cartel II, Los Cangris, which Rivera took a small part in. Due to personal issues, they ended their friendship in 2004, Rivera continued working as a solo artist and created many commercially successful singles. In 2012, after years of splitting apart, they both recorded El Party Me Llama from the album Prestige and confirmed they had both settled their disagreements from years prior. Se Quiere, Se Mata is the sixth single released from Shakiras third album, Pies Descalzos. Written and composed by herself, Se Quiere, Se Mata was a Top Ten Hit in Mexico, the song laments the story of a young couple, Braulio and Dana, and their choice to have an abortion. Introduced as an innocent young couple well liked by their families, however, rather than admit this to their families and neighbors, they choose to get an abortion. The abortion ultimately goes badly, resulting in Danas death, note that the Spanish word quiere may mean either want or love and the song seems to use both meanings. Commercially, the project struggled, selling an underwhelming 1,200 copies in her native Colombia and her follow-up record Peligro was released in 1993, and suffered a similar failure. Consequently, Shakira took a hiatus, allowing her to complete her high school education. Looking to revive her career, Shakira released her first major-label studio album Pies Descalzos in 1996 by Sony Music. Assuming a prominent position in its production, she co-wrote and co-produced each of the tracks included on the record. Shakira meets a man who dresses as a policeman and they both escape - he is cast as a boyfriend in the video. Shakira hides in a wig store, pretending to be a mannequin, at the end, the police attack the dance club where the runaways are dancing, but Shakira escapes with the boyfriend. La Tortura is a Latin pop song with prominent influences of reggaeton, the song won two Latin Grammy Awards at the 2006 Ceremony for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
