Liga I, also known as Liga 1 and officially branded as Superliga for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of
Olympia București, the 1909–10 Divizia A champions.
CFR Cluj (pictured at Stamford Bridge in a 2008–09 UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea) won eight championships under the new name of Liga I.
