Maanavan (transl. Student) is a 1970 Indian Tamil-language coming-of-age drama film directed by M. A. Thirumugam and produced by Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar under Dhandayudhapani Films. The script were written by Balamurugan. The film starring Jaishankar and Muthuraman with Sowcar Janaki, Lakshmi, Nagesh and Sachu in supporting roles. Kamal Haasan appears only for a dance sequence along with Kutty Padmini. Hassan returns to Cinema as a teen actor after a seven-year hiatus. The film also marks the debut of many character actors and comedians like Pandu, Kathadi Ramamurthy among others.

Muthuraman Radhakrishnan was an Indian actor who predominantly appeared in Tamil language films. He was a leading actor during the 1960s and 1970s and was known as Navarasa Thilagam. He had paired with all the leading heroines of his time and acted in main and character roles. Muthuraman's son Karthik is also a popular Tamil actor and politician, and his grandson Gautham Karthik is also an actor who made his debut in Kadal (2013).
