Corboz was born in Marsens, Switzerland, and educated in his native canton of Fribourg. He studied vocal performance and composition at the conservatory in Fribourg.

Jean-Louis Martinoty was a French writer and an opera director. Renowned for his stagings of baroque operas in the eighties, he was also General Administrator of the Paris Opera.
