Municipalities of Aguascalientes
Aguascalientes is a state in North Central Mexico that is divided into eleven municipalities. According to the 2020 Mexican census, Aguascalientes is the sixth least populous state with 1,425,607 inhabitants and the fourth smallest by land area spanning 5,630.27 square kilometres (2,173.86 sq mi).
Aguascalientes is the capital of the state and largest municipality by population.
Jesús María is the second largest municipality by population.
Municipalities are the second-level administrative divisions of Mexico, where the first-level administrative division is the state. They should not be confused with cities or towns that may share the same name as they are distinct entities and do not share geographical boundaries. As of March 2024, there are 2,476 municipalities in Mexico, excluding the 16 boroughs of Mexico City.
