Murders of Anna and Olivia Zimmerman
On April 27, 2021, sisters Anna and Olivia Zimmermann, aged one and six years old respectively, were kidnapped by their father, Tomás Antonio Gimeno Casañas, on the island of Tenerife, Spain. On June 10, the lifeless body of Olivia was found on the seabed of the Canary Islands, 1 km (0.62 mi) deep with the help of sonar. The case had a large impact on Spanish society and media. Anna and Tomás Antonio Gimeno have never been found, but are presumed dead.

Murder of Asunta Basterra
Asunta Yong Fang Basterra Porto was a Chinese-born Spanish girl whose body was found in Teo, A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, on 22 September 2013, shortly before her thirteenth birthday. The coroner determined she had died by asphyxiation, and had been given at least twenty-seven lorazepam pills on the day of her death, more than nine times a high dosage amount for an adult. The investigation into the death became known as the Asunta Basterra case.
