The National Trust is a charity and membership organisation for heritage conservation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, there is the separate and independent National Trust for Scotland.
The first building the Trust acquired was Alfriston Clergy House in 1896.
Bodiam Castle was acquired by the Trust in 1926.

George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston,, styled Lord Curzon of Kedleston between 1898 and 1911 and then Earl Curzon of Kedleston between 1911 and 1921, was a prominent British statesman, Conservative politician and writer who served as Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905.
