Neil Bonnett

Lawrence Neil Bonnett was an American NASCAR driver who compiled 18 victories and 20 poles over his 18-year career. The Alabama native ranks 45th in all-time NASCAR Cup victories, he appeared in the 1990 film Days of Thunder. Bonnett hosted the TV show Winners for TNN from 1991 to 1994, he was a color commentator for CBS, TBS, TNN in the years until his death. Bonnett began his NASCAR career as a protégé of 1983 Winston Cup champion Bobby Allison, working on the team's cars, he became part of the famous "Alabama Gang" that included himself, Red Farmer and the Allison family: father Bobby, Brother Donnie and Son Davey. He began driving in NASCAR in 1974 and earned his first victory in 1977 at the Capital City 400 in Richmond, Virginia driving for Harry Hyde-Jim Stacy Racing, he had another victory in 1977 at the Los Angeles Times 500, which would be the last Dodge win in NASCAR until 2001. Many in racing circles thought 1978 would be his year to dominate, but troubles with his cars and financial problems between Hyde and Stacy caused his cars to fail and to drop out of many races.

In 1979 he hooked up with the Wood Brothers Racing Team and got his career back on track with three victories. He won back-to-back World 600s in 1982 and 1983 and back-to-back Busch Clash victories in 1983 and'84, including his first in which he did not win a single pole from the previous season, but was selected as a wild card entry. In 1984, Bonnett joined Junior Johnson's team. In 1985, he had one of his best seasons, finishing fourth in the points standings while Waltrip went on to win his third championship. Bonnett participated in International Race of Champions during three seasons, finished second twice. Bonnett holds the distinction of being the winner of the first NASCAR race held outside of North America when he won the 1988 Goodyear NASCAR 500 at the Calder Park Thunderdome in Melbourne, Australia; the race, run two weeks after the Daytona 500, was not a Winston Cup race but featured some drivers from the series including fellow Alabama Gang member Bobby Allison, Michael Waltrip, Dave Marcis and Kyle Petty who were up against Australian drivers somewhat new to NASCAR racing.

Bonnett, who had won the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway the previous weekend, started from the pole driving his Valvoline sponsored Pontiac Grand Prix. He and Allison, driving a Buick LeSabre, dominated the crash marred, 280 lap 500 km race finishing first and second ahead of Dave Marcis on a day when cabin temperatures were reported to reach over 57° Celsius as the race was held during Australia's notoriously hot summer. On April 1, 1990, Bonnett suffered a life-threatening crash during the TranSouth 500 at Darlington, South Carolina, when his car slammed into Sterling Marlin's car during a 14-car crash on lap 212, he was left with amnesia and dizziness, he retired from racing and turned to television, becoming a race color commentator for TNN, CBS Sports, TBS Sports, hosting the TV show Winners for TNN. However, Bonnett still desired to continue racing. In 1992, he began testing cars for good friends Dale Earnhardt and car owner Richard Childress. Cleared to race again in 1993 and upon Earnhardt's suggestion, Childress gave Bonnett a ride for the 1993 DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, numbered 31 and sponsored by GM Goodwrench.

But his comeback race was marred by a crash in which his car spun, became airborne, crashed into the spectator fence. He was uninjured and called the rest of the race from the CBS broadcast booth after being cleared at the infield care center, he would start the final race of the 1993 season in Atlanta, but he dropped out after just three laps. The reason the team gave for removing the car from the race was a blown engine. Earnhardt needed to maximize his finishing position, by Bonnett quitting the race he was assured of those three championship points; that was Bonnett's final cup start of his career. Despite the setbacks, Bonnett was encouraged because he had secured a ride and sponsorship for at least six races in the 1994 season with car owner James Finch, including the season opening race, the Daytona 500, for Phoenix Racing, but on February 11, 1994, during the first practice session for the 1994 Daytona 500, a shock mount broke causing him to lose control of his Chevrolet on the track's high-banked fourth turn.

The car swerved onto the track apron, up the steep bank before crashing into the wall nearly head on. Bonnett did not survive the accident; that weekend, another racing death occurred, as 1993 Goody's Dash champion Rodney Orr was killed in a racing crash during the practices surrounding the first weekend. In the middle of the second Goodyear-Hoosier tire war, Hoosier withdrew from the race immediately. Bonnett is buried in Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. A road called "Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive" in his hometown honors him, along with fellow native Davey Allison, who died seven months earlier; when Earnhardt, Bonnett's colleague, won the 1998 Daytona 500, he dedicated the victory to Bonnett among others. William Dalison

Sir William Dalison was an English judge who served as a Member of Parliament for Lincolnshire in 1553. He was the younger son of William Dalison of Laughton, Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1546 and Escheator of Lincolnshire, by his wife, a daughter of George Wastneys of Haddon, Nottinghamshire, he entered Gray's Inn in 1534 and was called to the bar in 1537. He was elected Reader of Gray's Inn in 1548 and again in 1552, on one of which occasions he gave a lecture on the statute 32 Henry VIII, chapter 33, concerning wrongful disseisin, referred to in Dyer's Reports as a correct statement of the law, he took the degree of serjeant-at-law in 1552, receiving from his Inn the sum of £5 and a pair of gloves. He served as a Member of Parliament for Lincolnshire in October 1553. In 1554 he was appointed one of the justices of the County Palatine of Lancaster. In 1556 he was knighted, his patent was renewed on the accession of Queen Elizabeth I. He married Elizabeth Dighton, a daughter of Robert Dighton of Sturton Parva, Lincolnshire, by whom he had issue four sons and five daughters.

His descendants settled in Kent, were represented in the female line in the 19th century by Maximilian Hammond Dalison of Hamptons, near Tunbridge. He died in January 1559, was buried in Lincoln Cathedral. Dalison compiled a collection of cases decided during the reigns of Philip and Mary, his so-called ‘Reports’ were published in the same volume with some by Serjeant William Benloe in 1689. J. H. Baker writing in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography comments that for the period 1546 to 1558 Dalison's cases are hard to separate from those of Richard Harpur. 1926 World Figure Skating Championships

The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Gil Reyes (tennis)

Gil Reyes is an American fitness trainer who spent seventeen years as the strength and conditioning trainer for retired tennis player Andre Agassi, from 1989 until Agassi's retirement in 2006. He was considered one of Agassi's closest friends and confidants. Gil Reyes was the strength and conditioning coach for the basketball program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before meeting Agassi in 1989. Reyes was their strength coach. After Agassi lost in the fourth round of the 1998 US Open, he and Reyes recommitted to the training regimen they had established. Soon after returning to Las Vegas, Reyes asked Agassi for the first time to run up and down a 320-yard hill that Reyes calls "Magic Mountain"; the story has become an oft-repeated story of Reyes's motivation. This retooled training regime entailed two hours of court practice, followed by two hours of weight training and to "Magic Mountain" for a series of sprints, it is believed that Agassi's late career revival would not have been possible without this training regime.

Agassi himself said in 2005, at the age of 35, "Gil is the reason why I've won more Slams after the age of 29 than I did before. He's the reason why I'm still out there playing this sport at a time in my life when I can understand and appreciate it."Reyes's approach transformed Agassi into a well-conditioned strong athlete. When they first began working together Agassi could bench press 135 pounds. Fourteen years in 2003, he was benchpressing 350 lbs. Reyes described his job as being "to get to be as good to himself as he is to others." The relationship between Reyes and Agassi was so close that Reyes was sometimes called "the core" of Agassi's team of advisors and family. Reyes's contributions to Agassi's success were overlooked in favor of the contributions of coaches like Brad Gilbert. In 2001, Agassi named his child Jaden Gil Agassi after his friend. Gil Reyes runs the Gil Reyes Fitness Center in Las Vegas. Gil Reyes and Adidas have a contract under which he helps train young athletes, such as Fernando Verdasco, Sorana Cîrstea, Sania Mirza and Sam Querrey.

The training employed by Reyes consists of the same combination used for Andre Agassi- a combination of court practice, weight training and runs up "Magic Mountain". Gil Reyes was credited by Fernando Verdasco for his improved fitness and career-best run to the Australian Open semifinals in January 2009

Mass-casualty incident

A mass casualty incident describes an incident within the United States in which emergency medical services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties. For example, an incident where a two-person crew is responding to a motor vehicle collision with three injured people could be considered a mass casualty incident; the general public more recognizes events such as building collapses and bus collisions, plane crashes and other large-scale emergencies as mass casualty incidents. Events such as the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the September 11 attacks in 2001 are well-publicized examples of mass casualty incidents; the most common types of MCIs are caused by terrorism, mass-transportation accidents, or natural disasters. A mass casualty incident will be declared by the first arriving unit at the scene of the incident. However, it may alternately be declared by a dispatcher, based on the information available from people who call their local emergency telephone number about the incident.

A formal declaration of an MCI is made by an officer or chief of the agency in charge. The senior paramedic at the scene will be in charge of the incident, but as additional resources arrive, a senior officer or chief will take command using an incident command system structure to form a unified command to run all aspects of the incident. In the United States, the Incident Command System is known as the National Incident Management System. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, "NIMS provides the template for the management of incidents." After the proper agencies have arrived, a more detailed assessment of the scene will be performed using the M. E. T. H. A. N. E method, which summarizes information necessary for responders: Mass incident declared Exact location Type of incident Hazards present Access and egress Number of casualties and severity Emergency services required There are multiple agencies involved in most mass casualty incidents, which means there are many individuals that require training for these specific situations.

The most common types of agencies and responders are listed below. Certified first responders or emergency medical responders may arrive as part of local emergency medical services, or may arrive on their own, they will assist with all aspects of patient care, including triage and treatment at the scene, transport from the scene to the hospital. Paramedic and emergency medical technician personnel may arrive in ambulances, in their personal vehicles, or from another agency, they will have control of all aspects of patient care, as assigned by the medical officer or incident commander. Ground ambulances will be assigned to the transport sector to transport patients and personnel to and from the incident scene, emergency departments of hospitals, a designated helipad; these ambulances may be municipal volunteer services, or from private corporations. Air ambulances will transport patients from the scene or from designated helipads to receiving hospitals. Firefighters will perform all initial rescue-related operations, as well as fire suppression and prevention.

They may provide medical care if they are trained and assigned to do so. They may arrive in their personal vehicles, or from another agency. Many areas near airports will have automatic mutual aid agreements with airport fire departments in the event of a plane crash outside of the airport boundaries. Police officers will control access to the scene, to ensure safety and smooth operations. Utility services will ensure that utilities in the area are turned off as necessary, in order to prevent further injury or damage at the scene. Emergency Management Agencies may assist with procuring additional equipment and supplies for the incident. Emergency Management Incident Support Teams may assist with activities such as Planning, Logistics and Recovery. Community Emergency Response Teams, or CERT, are civilians trained in basic emergency response and used to assist in disasters; these teams are trained and maintained by Emergency Management Agencies but may be part of Fire Departments or EMS Agencies.

Amateur Radio Emergency Services or Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services are Amateur Radio operators trained to provide emergency communications during a disaster. In a disaster communication systems are overloaded or shut down and Amateur Radio operators use special frequencies to assist with disaster communications. Specialized rescue teams may be part of the local fire department; these teams are specialists in specific types of rescue, such as urban search and rescue or confined space rescue. Hazmat teams are responsible for neutralizing any hazardous materials at the scene. Sometimes these will be specialized CBRNE teams. National Guard units have medics trained in mass-casualty triage who may be called in to respond to a disaster-related incident. Railways and transportation agencies will be notified if an incident involves their tracks or right-of-way, or if they are required to cease operations in and through affected areas. Transportation agencies will provide buses to transport injured people to the hospital.

Arrigo Miglio

Arrigo Miglio is an Italian Roman Catholic archbishop. He has been Archbishop of Cagliari since 25 February 2012. Miglio was born in San Giorgio Canavese, Piedmont and was ordained on 23 September 1967, he was named Bishop of Iglesias on 25 March 1992, was consecrated by Luigi Bettazzi on the following 25 April. On 20 February 1999 Miglio was named Bishop of Ivrea, he is president of the scientific committee and organizer of the Social Weeks of Catholic Italians as well as member of the Episcopal Commission of the Italian Episcopal Conference for social issues, labour and peace. On 25 February 2012 he was named Archbishop of Cagliari by Pope Benedict XVI, received the metropolitan bishop's pallium on 29 June of the same year. Miglio has been president of the Sardinian Episcopal Conference since 3 September 2012.
