Coral Springs, Florida

Coral Springs, officially the City of Coral Springs, is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States, approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 121,096 and it is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census. The city, officially chartered on July 10,1963, was master-planned and primarily developed by WCI Communities, then known as Coral Ridge Properties, the citys name is derived from the companys name, and was selected after several earlier proposals had been considered and rejected. Despite the name, there are no springs in the city, Floridas springs are found in the central, during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s the young city grew rapidly, adding over 35,000 residents each decade. Coral Springs has notably strict building codes, which are designed to maintain the citys distinctive aesthetic appeal, the city governments effective fiscal management has maintained high bond ratings, and the city has won accolades for its overall livability, its low crime rate, and its family-friendly orientation. Coral Springs is a planned community, prior to its incorporation as a city in July 1963, the area which is now Coral Springs was part of 20,000 acres of marshy lands bought by Henry Lyons between 1911 and 1939. After several floods in 1947, Florida created the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control District, canals and levees drained much of the area upon which Coral Springs was built. After the land was drained and cleared, most of the area was used as a bean farm, after Lyons death in 1952, his heirs changed the focus to cattle. A post-World War II real estate boom in South Florida attracted the interest of developers, Coral Ridge Properties, which already had several developments in Broward County, bought 3,869 acres of land from the Lyons family on December 14,1961 for $1 million. The City of Coral Springs was chartered on July 10,1963, other names that were considered for the new city included Curran Village, Pompano Springs and Quartermore. By 1964, the company had developed a plan for a city of 50,000 residents. On July 22,1964, the first sale of 536 building lots netted $1.6 million, the landmark covered bridge was built that same year to promote the town. In 1965, Coral Ridge Properties bought an additional 6,000 acres from the Lyons family, the first city government elections were held in 1967. The city added nineteen public schools, a mall, shopping centers. The construction of the Sawgrass Expressway in 1986 brought even more growth, a museum and a theater opened in the 1990s. The city reached residential build-out in 2003 and is close to a commercial build-out. The citys historically low crime rate was marred in the early 1990s, the violence subsided and the city returned to its previously peaceful state in 1995. In 2007, Coral Springs became the first state or local government in the nation to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, in 2010, CNNMoney. com listed Coral Springs as the 44th best place to live in the United States

Pop punk is a punk rock music genre and a fusion genre that combines elements of punk rock with elements of pop music. Pop punk typically combines fast punk rock tempos, power chord changes and loud, distorted guitars with pop-influenced melodies. Pop-influenced punk rock emerged in the mid-1970s with a style that was stylistically similar to power pop. By the mid-1980s, several bands merged hardcore punk with pop music to create a new, faster pop punk sound such as Dag Nasty, Pop punk in the United States began to grow in popularity locally in California in the mid-to-late 1980s. Pop punk particularly thrived in California, where independent record labels adopted a do it approach to releasing music. By the mid-1990s, a few pop punk bands had started to sell millions of records and receive radio and television airplay. By 1994, pop punk was quickly growing in mainstream popularity, the late 1990s, exemplified by the 1999 release of Blink-182s Enema of the State, represented the genres mainstream peak, although some pop punk bands scored successful album chartings in the 2000s. In the mid-2000s, emo pop, a genre combining emo and pop punk. By the end of the 2000s, the pop sound of the 1990s had largely waned in mainstream popularity. Pop punk typically merges upbeat pop melodies with catchy hooks, catchy choruses, harmonies, speedy tempos, punk rock power chord changes and loud, distorted electric guitars. About. com has described second-wave pop punk bands as having a radio friendly sheen to their music, club, pop punk often pits sweet harmonies against bratty, rowdy riffs. Lyrical topics that are common in pop punk include love, lust, drunkenness, adolescence, cartoonish violence, some pop punk lyrics focus on jokes and humor. Some pop punk music features elements of rock, power pop. According to Ryan Cooper of About. com, pop punk is a style that more to the Beatles. It is not clear when the pop punk was first used. Protopunk and power pop bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s helped lay the groundwork for the pop punk sound, the Beatles, the Kinks and the Beach Boys all paved the way for pop punk. With their love of the Beach Boys and late 1960s bubblegum pop, the Ramones loud and fast melodic minimalism differentiated them from other bands in New York Citys budding art rock scene, but pop punk was not considered a separate subgenre until later. Alternative rock

Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s and 2000s. In this instance, the word refers to the genres distinction from mainstream rock music. The terms original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their debt to either the musical style or simply the independent. Ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music, Alternative rock is a broad umbrella term consisting of music that differs greatly in terms of its sound, its social context, and its regional roots. Most of these subgenres had achieved minor mainstream notice and a few bands representing them, such as Hüsker Dü, with the breakthrough of Nirvana and the popularity of the grunge and Britpop movements in the 1990s, alternative rock entered the musical mainstream and many alternative bands became successful. By the end of the decade, alternative rocks mainstream prominence declined due to a number of events that caused grunge and Britpop to fade, emo attracted attention in the larger alternative rock world, and the term was applied to a variety of artists, including multi-platinum acts. Post-punk revival artists such as Modest Mouse and The Killers had commercial success in the early, before the term alternative rock came into common usage around 1990, the sort of music to which it refers was known by a variety of terms. In 1979, Terry Tolkin used the term Alternative Music to describe the groups he was writing about, in 1979 Dallas radio station KZEW had a late night new wave show entitled Rock and Roll Alternative. College rock was used in the United States to describe the music during the 1980s due to its links to the radio circuit. In the United Kingdom, dozens of small do it yourself record labels emerged as a result of the punk subculture, according to the founder of one of these labels, Cherry Red, NME and Sounds magazines published charts based on small record stores called Alternative Charts. The first national chart based on distribution called the Indie Chart was published in January 1980, at the time, the term indie was used literally to describe independently distributed records. By 1985, indie had come to mean a particular genre, or group of subgenres, at first the term referred to intentionally non–mainstream rock acts that were not influenced by heavy metal ballads, rarefied new wave and high-energy dance anthems. The use of alternative gained further exposure due to the success of Lollapalooza, for which festival founder, in the late 1990s, the definition again became more specific. Defining music as alternative is often difficult because of two conflicting applications of the word, the name alternative rock essentially serves as an umbrella term for underground music that has emerged in the wake of punk rock since the mid-1980s. Alternative bands during the 1980s generally played in clubs, recorded for indie labels. Sounds range from the gloomy soundscapes of gothic rock to the guitars of indie pop to the dirty guitars of grunge to the 1960s/1970s revivalism of Britpop. This approach to lyrics developed as a reflection of the social and economic strains in the United States and United Kingdom of the 1980s, by 1984, a majority of groups signed to independent record labels mined from a variety of rock and particularly 1960s rock influences. Epitaph Records

Epitaph Records is a Hollywood-based independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. The label was originally just a logo and a P. O. box created in the 1980s for the purpose of selling Bad Religion records, Gurewitz took the name from a King Crimson song of the same name. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s most of the bands on Epitaph were punk and pop groups, while there are many post-hardcore. A large portion of the label, known as Hellcat Records, is owned by Tim Armstrong. Several sister-labels also exist, such as ANTI-, Burning Heart Records, Fat Possum Records, Hellcat Records, the lable has recently been added to the Forza Horizon franchise as a radio station. Brett Gurewitz formed Epitaph Records as a vehicle for releases by his band Bad Religion and its first release for the label was Bad Religions 1981 self-titled EP, followed by their debut How Could Hell Be Any Worse. Which was also the labels first full-length release, also released during this period was Peace thru Vandalism, an EP by The Vandals, who were the first band besides Bad Religion to sign to Epitaph. Two more Bad Religion releases followed – Into the Unknown and the EP Back to the Known – before their temporary split, after Gurewitz had cleaned up his drug issues, both Epitaph and Bad Religion were revived in 1987. In the following year, Epitaph released its first record as a label, which was L7s self-titled album. Also in 1988, Bad Religion released Suffer, which was released and distributed by Epitaph. Not only is Suffer often cited as one of the bands best by fans, in 1989, Gurewitz signed NOFX to Epitaph. This was followed by Bad Religions next two albums – No Control and Against the Grain – which sold 60,000 and 100,000 copies respectively. By 1993, more punk acts had signed to Epitaph, including Pennywise, Down by Law, Coffin Break, The Offspring, Rancid, SNFU, Total Chaos and Claw Hammer. Epitaphs expansion saw the label relocate to new offices in Silver Lake, recipe for Hate was followed by their 1994 highly successful release Stranger Than Fiction. Brett Gurewitz is thought to have left Bad Religion as a result of internal disputes and that year Bad Religion and Epitaph received widespread fame, both within and outside the punk community, when Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid and The Offspring all released hit records. This was a big year for punk in the mainstream, Rancid appeared on Saturday Night Live the following year, playing Ruby Soho and Roots Radicals. In 2001, Brett Gurewitz returned to Bad Religion, and the returned to Epitaph Records, releasing six more albums. In mid-2005 Epitaph was added to the official list of RIAA members along with several other independent labels

Geffen Records

Geffen Records is an American major record label, owned by Universal Music Group, which operates as one third of the Interscope Geffen A&M Records label. On March 23,2017, Billboard. com announced the label was relaunching with longtime A&R Neil Jacobson as President, Geffen Records was started in 1980 by music industry businessman David Geffen who, in the early 1970s, had founded Asylum Records. Geffen stepped down from Asylum in 1975, when he crossed over to film and was named a vice-president of Warner Bros and he was fired from Warner circa 1978, but remained locked in a 5-year contract, which prevented him from working elsewhere. He returned to work in 1980 and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Records to create Geffen Records, profits were split 50/50 between Geffen and the respective distributors. Geffen Records first artist was disco superstar Donna Summer, whose gold-selling album The Wanderer became the labels first release in 1980, the label followed it up with Double Fantasy by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It was Lennons first new album since 1975, two weeks after it entered the charts, Lennon was murdered in New York City. As the 1980s progressed, Geffen would go on to have success with acts as Kylie Minogue, Enya, Quarterflash, Oxo, Asia, Wang Chung. This prompted Geffen to create a label, DGC Records in 1990. Geffen also distributed the first incarnation of Def American Recordings through Warner Bros. from 1988 to 1990, after a decade of operating through Warner, when its contract with the company expired, the label was sold to MCA Music Entertainment in 1990. The deal ultimately earned David Geffen an estimated US$800 million in stock, following the sale, Geffen Records operated as one of MCAs leading independently managed labels. Geffen Records would distribute releases on the new operations DreamWorks Records subsidiary, Universal Music Group acquired PolyGram in 1999, resulting in a corporate reorganization of labels. Geffen Records, along with A&M Records, was merged into Interscope Records. Although Geffen would continue to exist as a brand, it was downsized to fit into the expansion of Interscope. At the same time, international distribution of Interscope and Geffen releases switched to ex-PolyGram label Polydor Records, meanwhile, DreamWorks Records also folded, with artists such as Nelly Furtado, Lifehouse and Rufus Wainwright being absorbed by Geffen as well. During this time, DGC Records was also folded into Geffen, at the end of 2007, however, Geffen was absorbed further into Interscope, laying off sixty employees. In 2009, it was announced that Geffen Records had signed an agreement with the Holy See to produce an album of Marian songs, jimmy Iovine relaunched the Geffen imprint in 2011, moving its headquarters from California to New York City

Drive-Thru Records

Drive-Thru Records, established in 1996, was a California-based record label owned by siblings Richard and Stefanie Reines. The label was responsible for popularizing the pop-punk/emo sound of the early to mid-2000s. After facing financial obstacles in getting their bands music into stores, MCA was dissolved and changed into Geffen Records. One of the clauses of that agreement was MCA/Geffen being able to sign any band of their choosing from Drive-Thrus roster, once the Universal deal ended, they signed a contract with independent label Sanctuary Records. Starting with a new roster, the label garnered a top 10 platinum hit with Here In Your Arms by Hellogoodbye, however, Sanctuary was on the verge of bankruptcy, and sold their assets to Universal Music. Drive-Thru Records got trapped in that deal, and were stuck with UMD, the labels last release was in 2008, when Richard and Stefanie Reines decided to concentrate on artist management and put Drive-Thru Records on indefinite hiatus. The independent label sold over 7 million CDs, Love Minus Zero Recordings was the second subsidiary record label created by the Reines siblings, who along with Drive-Thru also own Rushmore Records. This label was intended to comprise artists of a stronger singer-songwriter genre, only two acts were ever signed to Love Minus Zero, Roark and Biirdie. This imprint was soon reabsorbed back into Drive-Thru Records, Drive-Thru Records have earned several silver, gold, and platinum albums and singles, that have been certified by RIAA, CRIA and BPI. † denotes former Rushmore Records signee. MCA Inc.

MCA, Inc. was an American media company. Initially starting in the business, the company next became a dominant force in the film business. MCA, Inc. is the predecessor of NBCUniversal, which since March 2013 is a wholly owned subsidiary of Comcast. MCA was formed in 1924 by Jules Stein and William R. Goodheart, Jr. as Music Corporation of America, MCA helped pioneer modern practices of touring bands and name acts. Early on, MCA booked such prominent artists as King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton for clubs and speakeasies run by legendary notorious Chicago mobsters such as Al Capone and others. Lew Wasserman joined MCA in 1936 at the age of 23 and rose through the ranks of MCA for more than four decades, Wasserman helped create MCAs radio show, Kay Kyser and His Kollege of Musical Knowledge, which debuted on NBC Radio that same year. Following that success, Stein installed Wasserman in New York City in 1937, the company was guided by a codification of Steins pet policies known as The Rules of The Road. The Rules were passed down from the Prohibition era, Chicago–area MCA to the 1940s Los Angeles–area firm, which focused on representing movie actors. The Rules were next passed to the 1950s generation of MCA talent agents, including Jerry Perenchio, Perenchio is well known for his version of the Rules, which vary from year to year and have some internal contradictions. Its aggressive acquisition of its clientele in all entertainment sectors earned MCA the nickname of The Octopus and this behavior led U. S. Department of Justice agents to investigate not only whether MCA was a monopoly breaking anti-trust laws, but also its suspected connections to underworld criminal activities. This investigation continued for the few decades. In 1948, Jules Stein moved up as MCAs first chairman and that year, Stein and Wasserman decided to get into a new medium that would, decades later, change the entertainment landscape forever, television. Although many motion picture studios would not touch this new medium, thinking it was just a fad and would fade away, MCA decided to embrace it. First, however, the company needed to get a waiver from the Screen Actors Guild, thanks to the newly elected SAG president, Ronald Reagan, MCA was granted a waiver to start producing TV shows. After the waiver was granted, the company formed MCA Television Limited for syndication, prior to 1958, all Revues shows were filmed at the old Republic Pictures studio lot in Studio City, California. In February 1958, MCA acquired Paramount Pictures pre-1950 sound feature film library through a newly created MCA subsidiary, EMKA, Ltd. Also in 1958, MCA bought the 423-acre Universal Studios lot from Universal Pictures for $11 million and renamed it, as well as the television unit. Stein, who by this time was the owner of MCA, decided to take the company public by giving 51% of his ownership of MCA to his employees

Fiddler Records

Fiddler Records was a small independent record label serving as the launch pad for several artists seminal to the pop, punk and emo genres. Starting as the brainchild of 16-year-old entrepreneur Amy Fleisher Madden in 1996, over the course of 10 years, Fiddler Records developed a steady roster of successful artists such as The Bled, The Higher, Recover, Juliette & The Licks, Name Taken and Classic Case. Currently, the Fiddler Records catalog is managed by Animal Manufacturing Co, Animal Manufacturing has released vinyl for both Recover and Name Taken and has helped keep the spirit of Fiddler alive. Fiddler Records started in 1996 by Amy Fleisher Madden at age 16, after saving $600 from promoting several shows over the course of several months at Cheers, Amy invested the money in a 7” by the band Vacant Andys. The gold vinyl release was titled Anodyne, and marked the first release from both an artist and label showing signs of much bigger things on the horizon. Fiddler began building a roster with several records, including the labels forth release, New Found Glorys Its All About the Girls and it eventually sold more than 80,000 copies, as New Found Glory went on to pop-punk stardom earning multiple gold records for major labels. In March 2000, Fiddler released The Swiss Army Romance, a record from Chris Carrabba’s solo project titled Dashboard Confessional. In order to meet the demand, The Swiss Army Romance was sold from Fiddler to the MCA Records subsidiary Drive-Thru Records. In November 2002, Fiddler signed a deal with MCA Records. In March 2003, MCA folded into Geffen Records, which inherited Fiddlers contract. ”After many staff changes and band break-ups, Fiddler was dismantled in 2006. International Superheroes of Hardcore

International Superheroes of Hardcore were a parodical hardcore punk band. The band is a project of New Found Glory and features all five members. Chad Gilbert and Jordan Pundik switched duties to vocals and guitar, the remaining three members play the same instruments as in New Found Glory. All five members use pseudonyms rooted in hardcore and punk culture, the band had released one album, 2008s Takin it Ova. It was included with the New Found Glory EP Tip of the Iceberg, the bands songs are typically humorous in nature and tackle topics such as Back to the Future and Superhero Sellouts. The band did not play the Perth show of the festival, due to Captain Straight Edge himself falling sick too, in an interview in 2012, Ian Grushka and Steve Klein announced that the band had been scrapped. According to Jordan Pundik, New Found Glory were demoing for Coming Home it kind of got repetitive and draining. So we were all living in this house together for a couple of months and it was in the middle of nowhere in Malibu in the hills and at night we would start freaking out. We’d like get in our underwear and get crazy, and play stupid hardcore songs. ”So that’s what we did, and we ended up recording like, sixteen songs just for fun and started playing it for people and people were like, “Man, this is really good. You guys sound like a real, seasoned hardcore band. ”We’re like, “That’s awesome, ‘cause the songs are kind of talking about Harry Potter and superheroes. Shai Hulud (band)

Shai Hulud is an American metalcore band formed in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1995 then later moved to Poughkeepsie, New York. The band is named after the giant sandworms in Frank Herberts novel Dune, the two mainstay members of Shai Hulud are considered to be Matt Fox, who writes most of the bands musical and lyrical output, and Matt Fletcher, who assists in writing. Matt Fox and Dave Silber formed Shai Hulud in 1995 with Damien Moyal on vocals, Jason Lederman on drums, Matt was playing in several other kinds of bands like rock bands and they just wanted to play some hardcore says former bassist Jared Allen. However, things with Jason Lederman didnt work out and the band began to look for a new drummer and this, unfortunately, would be something the band would become accustomed to. In 1994, Steve Kleisath and Matt Fox met for the first time in Tampa, FL, when Matt was filling in on drums for Strongarm, the band Steve later joined as drummer. Although Revelation loved the Shai Hulud demo, they asked the band to change the name because they thought it was too difficult to remember, Shai Huluds first show was played on Halloween in 1996 at Discounts warehouse for under 50 people. Damien Moyal quit the band when the band signed to Revelation Records, with the exit of Damien, Shai Hulud would recruit 14-year-old Chad Gilbert on vocals. The band had a deal with Revelation Records subsidiary, Crisis Records. In September 1996, they recorded a three song EP called A Profound Hatred Of Man which was released in February 1997. On the first 5000 copies of their debut EP, the name is misspelled on the spine as, Shai Halud. This EP started the legacy of Shai Hulud, Chad Gilbert departed to found the pop punk band New Found Glory in 1997. This would pose problems for Shai Hulud in the future, however, they started recording their first full-length, Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion, in August 1997. They would finish the album in September and release it in November, throughout the next year and a half Shai Hulud toured America with Strongarm, Bloodlet, Shadows Fall, Zao, Overcast, Cannibal Corpse and Disembodied. A limited edition vinyl of the album was released in 2006, in May 1998 three tracks were recorded for a split with New Yorks Indecision entitled The Fall of Every Man. The split was released in November 1998, as Shai Huluds popularity grew some of the bands members interest began to wane. In 1998, Oliver Chapoy decided to leave the band and he was replaced by Matthew Fletcher who later moved to Florida to join the band in January 1999. Matt Fletcher saw Shai Hulud for the first time in Seattle, Washington in 1997 with Strongarm, Andrew Gormley was also at the show selling Kiss It Goodbye demos. In June 1999, they recorded a cover of Fearless Vampire Killers for the Bad Brains tribute compilation called Never Give In

Jordan Pundik

Jordan Izaak Pundik is an American musician and songwriter. He is a member and the frontman of Floridian rock band New Found Glory, for whom he sings lead vocals. He was also the guitarist in the now defunct side-project, the International Superheroes of Hardcore. Jordan Pundik was born in Englewood, New Jersey to Carlos and his family moved to Pompano Beach, Florida when he was 3 years old. He has a brother named Daniel and a sister named Edra, the origins of the band New Found Glory date back to the summer of 1997 when Pundik met Steve Klein at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the pair began writing music together. Pundik later stated the name was created whilst he and Klein were working in Red Lobster together. Pundik says, We came up with A New Found Glory, I think we pulled some of it from A Newfound Interest in Massachusetts by the Get Up Kids. They recruited friend Ian Grushka on bass, who they had played with in a band named Inner City Kids. The band practiced in Grushkas garage, and later invited Joe Taco Joe Marino to play drums, shortly thereafter, Chad Gilbert, former vocalist of Shai Hulud, joined to complete the quintet. In addition to his work with New Found Glory, Pundik has also collaborated with many artists and his vocals also appear on the tracks Kings of Hollywood and Youre Not Alone on MxPxs 2003 release Before Everything & After. He also does backup vocals for the song Cat Like Thief by Box Car Racer along with Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Jordan also appears on the Hope After the End/A Stab In The Dark split EP with Ned Harrington. In 2004, he appeared on the Breakdance Vietnam song Graves of Mistakes from the album Memories of Better Days, Jordan also contributed vocals on Youre the Wanker, If Anyone Is by Say Anything alongside bandmate Chad Gilbert. Jordan also contributed vocals on the track titled The Lost Boys by Set Your Goals. Jordan is also featured in the band Midtowns music video Just Rock & Roll, in 2010, Pundik collaborated with Paramores Hayley Williams and Relient Ks Ethan Luck for a punk rock cover of The Bed Intruder Song. In 2012 his suburban punk band Domestikated released an EP called 5 Minutes in Timeout, in the EP there is also a collaboration with Hayley Williams, in the track Whats His Name. In 2003 Jordan became engaged to longtime girlfriend Stacey Greimsmann, the couple married on September 5,2005, in late 2008, he became engaged to his current wife, Mandy Gerling. The pair married May 23,2009 in Oceanside, CA where they currently reside and they have two sons, born in 2010 and 2013. Chad Gilbert

Chad Everett Gilbert is an American musician and record producer. He is a member of the rock band New Found Glory, for whom he plays lead guitar, composes music. He was also the lead vocalist for New Found Glorys now-defunct side-project, additionally, Gilbert was the vocalist for the hardcore punk band Shai Hulud between 1995 and 1998, and he rejoined the band in 2012. Stephen Lee Steve Klein is a musician. Klein was a member of Florida rock group New Found Glory, for whom he was the primary lyricist. Having formed New Found Glory with frontman Jordan Pundik in 1997, Klein also contributed guitar to the bands now defunct alter-ego side project, The International Superheroes of Hardcore, where he was known under the pseudonym of Mr. Mosh. Klein made his debut in 2011, on Man Overboards self titled second album. When writing lyrics for each of the albums, Klein has explained that he simply tries to capture a different time period in our lives. The band made an announcement via Facebook on December 12,2013 that Klein was no longer in the band, following this announcement, New Found Glory revealed that they would begin searching for a replacement. It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by blues, rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of genres such as electric blues and folk. Musically, rock has centered on the guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar. Typically, rock is song-based music usually with a 4/4 time signature using a verse-chorus form, like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. Punk was an influence into the 1980s on the subsequent development of subgenres, including new wave, post-punk. From the 1990s alternative rock began to rock music and break through into the mainstream in the form of grunge, Britpop. Similarly, 1970s punk culture spawned the visually distinctive goth and emo subcultures and this trio of instruments has often been complemented by the inclusion of other instruments, particularly keyboards such as the piano, Hammond organ and synthesizers. The basic rock instrumentation was adapted from the blues band instrumentation. A group of musicians performing rock music is termed a rock band or rock group, Rock music is traditionally built on a foundation of simple unsyncopated rhythms in a 4/4 meter, with a repetitive snare drum back beat on beats two and four. Melodies are often derived from older musical modes, including the Dorian and Mixolydian, harmonies range from the common triad to parallel fourths and fifths and dissonant harmonic progressions. Critics have stressed the eclecticism and stylistic diversity of rock, because of its complex history and tendency to borrow from other musical and cultural forms, it has been argued that it is impossible to bind rock music to a rigidly delineated musical definition. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century album sales have mostly focused on compact disc and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used from the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl, an album may be recorded in a recording studio, in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. An extended play is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. EPs generally do not contain as many tracks as albums, and are considered less expensive, an EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play and LP, but it is now applied to mid-length CDs and downloads as well. Ricardo Baca of The Denver Post said, EPs—originally extended-play single releases that are shorter than traditional albums—have long been popular with punk, in the United Kingdom, the Official Chart Company defines a boundary between EP and album classification at 25 minutes of length or four tracks. EPs were released in various sizes in different eras, the earliest multi-track records, issued around 1919 by Grey Gull Records, were vertically cut 78 rpm discs known as 2-in-1 records. These had finer than usual grooves, like Edison Disc Records, by 1949, when the 45 rpm single and 33 1⁄3 rpm LP were competing formats, seven-inch 45 rpm singles had a maximum playing time of only about four minutes per side. Partly as an attempt to compete with the LP introduced in 1948 by rival Columbia, RCA Victor introduced Extended Play 45s during 1952. Their narrower grooves, achieved by lowering the levels and sound compression optionally. These were usually 10-inch LPs split onto two seven-inch EPs or 12-inch LPs split onto three seven-inch EPs, either separately or together in gatefold covers. This practice became less common with the advent of triple-speed-available phonographs. Some classical music albums released at the beginning of the LP era were distributed as EP albums—notably the seven operas that Arturo Toscanini conducted on radio between 1944 and 1954. These opera EPs, originally broadcast on the NBC Radio network and manufactured by RCA, in the 1990s, they began appearing on compact discs. During the 1950s, RCA published several EP albums of Walt Disney movies and these usually featured the original casts of actors and actresses. Each album contained two seven-inch records, plus an illustrated booklet containing the text of the recording, so that children could follow along by reading. Some of the titles included Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and what was then a recent release, because of the popularity of 7 and other formats, SP records became less popular and the production of SPs in Japan was suspended in 1963. In the 1950s and 1960s, EPs were usually compilations of singles or album samplers and were played at 45 rpm on seven-inch discs. Record Retailer printed the first EP chart in 1960, the New Musical Express, Melody Maker, Disc and Music Echo and the Record Mirror continued to list EPs on their respective singles charts. The Beatles Twist and Shout outsold most singles for some weeks in 1963, when the BBC and Record Retailer commissioned the British Market Research Bureau to compile a chart it was restricted to singles and EPs disappeared from the listings. A cover version can also refer to a rerecording of a song by the original artist or performers under a different record company. Originally, Billboard and other magazines that track the popularity of artists and hit tunes measured the sales success of the published tune. Later, they tracked the airplay that songs achieved, some versions being more successful recording than the original song. Before the onset of rock n roll in the 1950s, songs were published and several records of a song might be out by singers of the day. The Hendrix version, released six months after Dylans original, became a Top 10 single in the UK in 1968 and was ranked 48th in Rolling Stone magazines 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The term cover goes back decades when cover version originally described a version of a tune recorded to compete with the recently released version. The Chicago Tribune described the term in 1952, trade jargon meaning to record a tune that looks like a hit on someone elses label. Examples of records covered include Paul Williams 1949 hit tune The Hucklebuck, both crossed over to the popular Hit Parade and had numerous hit versions. In fact, one of the objects of publishing sheet music was to have a composition performed by as many artists as possible. In previous generations, some artists made very successful careers of presenting revivals or reworkings of once-popular tunes, musicians now play what they call cover versions of songs as a tribute to the original performer or group. Using familiar material is an important method of learning music styles, until the mid-1960s most albums, or long playing records, contained a large number of evergreens or standards to present a fuller range of the artists abilities and style. Artists might also perform interpretations of a favorite artists hit tunes for the pleasure of playing a familiar song or collection of tunes. A cover band plays cover versions exclusively. Some tribute acts salute the Who, The Rolling Stones and many classic rock acts. Many tribute acts target artists who remain popular but no longer perform, many tribute bands attempt to recreate another bands music as faithfully as possible, but some such bands introduce a twist. Dread Zeppelin performs reggae versions of the Zeppelin catalog and Beatallica creates heavy metal fusions of songs by the Beatles, there are also situations in which a member of a tribute band will go on to greater success, sometimes with the original act they tribute. Blink-182 is an American rock band formed in Poway, California in 1992. The band currently consists of bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker, Blink-182 was initially known as Blink until an Irish band of the same name threatened legal action, in response, the band appended the meaningless number -182. In its early years, Blink-182 toured heavily behind the bands debut, the group signed with major label MCA Records to co-distribute its second album, Dude Ranch. Raynor was fired midway through a 1998 tour and replaced by Barker, the groups next two releases, Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, were enormous successes on the strength of radio and MTV airplay. The eponymously titled Blink-182 followed in 2003 and marked a shift for the group. DeLonge quit in 2005, sending the band into what was termed an indefinite hiatus and they reunited in 2009, producing the trios sixth album, Neighborhoods. In 2015, DeLonge again exited and was replaced by Alkaline Trio guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba, the bands seventh studio album, California, was released on July 1,2016. Blink-182 is considered a key group in the development of pop punk, the trio has sold over thirteen million albums in the United States, and over 50 million albums worldwide. Blink-182 was formed in Poway, California, a suburb outside of San Diego, tom DeLonge was expelled from Poway High for attending a basketball game drunk and was forced to attend another local school for one semester. At Rancho Bernardo High School, DeLonge performed at a Battle of the Bands competition and he also befriended Kerry Key, who too was interested in punk music. Keys girlfriend, Anne Hoppus, introduced her brother Mark Hoppus—who had recently moved from Ridgecrest to work at a record store, the two clicked instantly and played for hours in DeLonges garage, exchanging lyrics and co-writing songs—one of which became Carousel. Hoppus, in trying to impress Delonge, managed to fall from a lamppost in front of DeLonges garage and crack his ankles, the trio began to practice together in Raynors bedroom, spending hours together writing music, attending punk shows and movies, and playing practical jokes. Hoppus and DeLonge would alternate singing vocal parts, the trio first operated under a variety of names, including Duck Tape and Figure 8, until DeLonge rechristened the band Blink. Shortly thereafter, DeLonge and Raynor borrowed a four-track recorder from friend and collaborator Cam Jones and were preparing to record a demo tape, Hoppus promptly broke up with his girlfriend and returned to the band. Flyswatter—a combination of songs and punk covers—was recorded in Raynors bedroom in May 1993. Southern California had a large population in the early 1990s, aided by an avid surfing, skating. In contrast to East Coast punk music, the West Coast wave of groups, Blink included, New York is gloomy, dark and cold. It is a part of the Broward County Public School district, Stoneman Douglas has an FCAT school grade of A for the 2015–2016 academic year. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was named after the Everglades environmentalist Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the school opened in 1990 with students in grade 9 though 11, most of which were transferring students from nearby Coral Springs High School and J. P. Taravella High School. The first senior class graduated in 1992, newsweeks 2015 national ranking in for high schools rated Douglas as #358 in the nation, and #13 in Florida, which is the highest ranking of any school in Broward County. The Stoneman Douglas Winter Percussion first began in 1999 but reemerged in 2006, during the 2009 season they received 3rd place at finals. They also received 1st place in every competition leading up to finals, during the 2009 marching season, the percussion line also received straight superiors at every show for the 2008-2009 season. Then under new direction they resurfaced in 2015 and won first place at the Boca WGI regional, with a growing cadet list every year, the Eagles battalion was awarded the highest honor that a JROTC battalion could receive in their 2008–2009 school year, The Honor unit with distinction. In the 2011-2012 school year, the MSD Battalion earned a 98.5 and they also placed third in the States competition for their drill team. In the summer of 2008, the school began constructing 2 new buildings on what was the parking lot. This consists of a three story building of 30 general classrooms with a ninth grade center and a one story science lab building with five science classrooms, the general classroom building opened to students on April 20,2009, and the science building opened on August 24,2009. The Get Up Kids are an American rock band from Kansas City, Missouri. Formed in 1995, the band was a player in the mid-1990s emo scene. As they gained prominence, they touring with bands such as Green Day and Weezer before becoming headliners themselves, eventually embarking on international tours of Japan. They founded Heroes & Villains Records, an imprint of the indie rock label Vagrant Records. While the imprint was started to release albums by The Get Up Kids, it served as a pad for several side-projects such as The New Amsterdams and Reggie. The Get Up Kids were viewed throughout their existence as an emo band. Their second album Something to Write Home About remains their most widely acclaimed album, however, like many early emo bands, The Get Up Kids sought to dissociate themselves with the term, as it was considered dismissive to be seen as an emo band. The band departed heavily from their style with the release of their 2002 album On a Wire. If this is the world we helped create, then I apologize, due to internal conflicts, the band broke up in 2005. Three years later, the band reunited to support the tenth anniversary re-release of Something to Write Home About, in early 2010, the band released Simple Science, their first release in six years, followed in 2011 by the full-length There Are Rules. While in high school, Ryan Pope, Rob Pope, Matt Pryor had been writing songs since he was a teenager, and was playing in a band called Secret Decoder Ring. Following the demise of the two bands in 1995, The Get Up Kids were formed, the band was formed on October 14,1995 on Suptics 18th birthday. At the time the lineup consisted of Pryor on guitar and lead vocals, Suptic on guitar, Rob Pope on bass, and Thomas Becker on drums. However, Becker soon left for college in California, and was replaced by Nathan Shay, in 1995, Pryor, Suptic, and friend Kevin Zelko saved money to self-release Shorty/The Breathing Method, their first 7-inch. However, due to an unwillingness to tour, Shay was replaced by Roberts younger brother Ryan in April 1996, the band became increasingly popular in the burgeoning underground Midwestern music scene, forming strong relationships with bands such as Rocket Fuel Is The Key, Coalesce and Braid. After the Shorty 7-inch, the band released A Newfound Interest in Massachusetts on Contrast Records, encouraged by interest stirred by the bands first 7-inch, they recorded their first EP, Woodson. After Woodson, Doghouse approached the band with a two-album contract, after signing to Doghouse, the band drove to Chicago to record their debut full-length album with producer Bob Weston of Shellac. Underground music comprises musical genres beyond mainstream culture. Any song that is not being legally commercialized is considered underground, some underground rock bands never got non-mainstream roots. They are radical, aggressive 60s bands such as Velvet Underground, The Stooges, MC5, 70s bands like The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Clash, and 80s hardcore punk bands like Discharge. Some underground styles eventually became mainstream, commercialized pop styles, as did for example, in the 2000s, the increasing availability of the Internet and digital music technologies has made underground music easier to distribute using streaming audio and podcasts. Some experts in cultural studies now argue that there is no underground because the Internet has made what was underground music accessible to everyone at the click of a mouse. One expert, Martin Raymond, of London-based company The Future Laboratory, commented in an article in The Independent, saying trends in music, art, now transmitted laterally and collaboratively via the internet. You once had a series of gatekeepers in the adoption of a trend, the innovator, the early adopter, the late adopter, the mainstream, the late mainstream. But now it goes straight from the innovator to the mainstream, frank Zappa attempted to define underground by noting that the mainstream comes to you, but you have to go to the underground. Black metal is also a form of music and its Norwegian scene are notorious for their association with church burnings. All of extreme metal is considered underground music for its extreme nature, in a Counterpunch magazine article, Twiin argues that Underground music is free media, because by working independently, you can say anything in your music and be free of corporate censorship. Underground music of this type is often promoted through word-of-mouth or by community radio DJs. In the early scenes, such as the Grateful Dead jam band fan scenes or the 1970s punk scenes. Nothing Gold Can Stay is the debut studio album by American rock band New Found Glory, released on October 19,1999 through independent record label Eulogy Recordings. At the time, the band was then named A New Found Glory, on the strength of the release, Richard Reines, co-founder of Drive-Thru Records, signed the band after paying Eulogy a $5,000 license fee in order to re-release the album. Propelled by debut single Hit or Miss, Nothing Gold Can Stay garnered a cult following, the record was responsible for breaking the band in the United States and has been noted for its influence on contemporary pop punk music. The album was recorded on a low budget with the members having to self-fund the sessions, Jordan Pundik recalls, I was working in Walgreens, I remember borrowing money off my sister to pay for the recording and everybody getting on me for not throwing in enough. Chad Gilbert also said that the album wasnt recorded too well, Pundik worked alongside primary lyricist and rhythm guitarist Steve Klein to pen the tracks. When me and Steve would work on the songs, hed come and pick me up in his station wagon. It didnt have a stereo, just a boombox, wed sit in his room at his parents house, and wed work on lyrics and melodies with sheets of paper everywhere. Pundik also said that a relationship during high school inspired the lyrics to Winter of 95. I was with her for 5 years, she was the only thing I knew, I remember listening to a Gameface record on vinyl, but was writing my own lyrics for the song at the same time in my head. Gilbert reflects on the album as 100 percent, without a doubt and we were just a bunch of kids who grew up in the suburbs. We never expected to leave Florida, we were just making a record we could play locally, then, eventually, it took us so many other places. Upon release in 1999, Nothing Gold Can Stay received positive reviews, mike DaRonco of Allmusic gave the album a positive four star review. He wrote, With an abundance of Lifetime/Promise Ring rip-off bands crawling out from under every nook and cranny, A New Found Glory pull out all the right hooks. Reminiscing about the days of walking to the beach, holding hands with a loved one, but, theyre also about trying to pick up the pieces of a shattered relationship by writing a song about it. Just sit back, listen, and relate to their days of love lost. Michael Dabaie of College Music Journal awarded the album a super four-star rating, describing the sound as abrasive yet extremely catchy he also opined that the album was pop-punk with substance and a stiff backbone. A decade after the release, Brendan Manley of Alternative Press covered the album in two separate articles for the magazine. Discussing the album in the 10 Classic Albums of 99 feature, he wrote, Like its title implies, Nothing Gold Can Stay is the transcript of a glorious, fleeting time for NFG

MxPx is an American punk rock band from Bremerton, Washington founded in 1992 as Magnified Plaid. The band has skate punk leanings, with connections to the pop punk scene, current members include Mike Herrera on lead vocals and bass, Tom Wisniewski on guitar and backing vocals, and Yuri Ruley on drums. The bands discography includes nine studio albums, four EPs, four albums, a live album, a VHS tape. A number of the releases have charted on Billboard, including the Billboard 200. MxPx began in July 1992 with the name Magnified Plaid, initially, the band started playing music inspired by Descendents, Black Flag and other punk rock bands. Mike Herrera, Yuri Ruley, and Andy Husted were classmates at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, the name was a tribute to the original guitarists fascination with plaid shirts but did not fit on the bands posters. Consequently, the name was abbreviated to M. P, but in Yuri Ruleys handwriting, periods appeared as Xs, and since he made up the show posters for the band, the four-letter moniker stuck. MxPx caught the attention of Tooth & Nail Records when the played a showcase for the label in 1993 in Herreras parents back yard. The bands first major album, Pokinatcha, was released while the members were still in high school. The album, though classified as Christian punk, incorporated the quick styles of hardcore punk, the songs are characterized by their raw punk sound, catchy rhythm, and classic punk three-chord guitar style. Guitarist Andy Husted soon left the band and was replaced by Herreras longtime friend, despite only knowing power chords on guitar, Wisniewski was willing to be in the band. MxPx released two albums with Tooth & Nail, Teenage Politics in 1995, and Life in General in 1996. MxPx received a distribution deal with A&M Records. This deal first saw a re-release of Life in General, MxPx then released two more studio albums jointly distributed by Tooth & Nail and A&M, Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo was the first in 1998. It ranked at No.99 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold on January 27,2000 by the Recording Industry Association of America, at the Show is a live album recorded by MxPx, released in 1999. At the time of the recording, the band was touring in support of Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo as well as the B-sides collection Let it Happen and this was followed by The Ever Passing Moment in 2000. MxPx gained critical recognition for this album and landed a supporting for The Offspring. Responsibility proved to be a radio hit, peaking at #24 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart

A cover version can also refer to a rerecording of a song by the original artist or performers under a different record company. Originally, Billboard and other magazines that track the popularity of artists and hit tunes measured the sales success of the published tune. Later, they tracked the airplay that songs achieved, some versions being more successful recording than the original song. Before the onset of rock n roll in the 1950s, songs were published and several records of a song might be out by singers of the day. The Hendrix version, released six months after Dylans original, became a Top 10 single in the UK in 1968 and was ranked 48th in Rolling Stone magazines 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The term cover goes back decades when cover version originally described a version of a tune recorded to compete with the recently released version. The Chicago Tribune described the term in 1952, trade jargon meaning to record a tune that looks like a hit on someone elses label. Examples of records covered include Paul Williams 1949 hit tune The Hucklebuck, both crossed over to the popular Hit Parade and had numerous hit versions. In fact, one of the objects of publishing sheet music was to have a composition performed by as many artists as possible. In previous generations, some artists made very successful careers of presenting revivals or reworkings of once-popular tunes, musicians now play what they call cover versions of songs as a tribute to the original performer or group. Using familiar material is an important method of learning music styles, until the mid-1960s most albums, or long playing records, contained a large number of evergreens or standards to present a fuller range of the artists abilities and style. Artists might also perform interpretations of a favorite artists hit tunes for the pleasure of playing a familiar song or collection of tunes. A cover band plays cover versions exclusively. Some tribute acts salute the Who, The Rolling Stones and many classic rock acts. Many tribute acts target artists who remain popular but no longer perform, many tribute bands attempt to recreate another bands music as faithfully as possible, but some such bands introduce a twist. Dread Zeppelin performs reggae versions of the Zeppelin catalog and Beatallica creates heavy metal fusions of songs by the Beatles, there are also situations in which a member of a tribute band will go on to greater success, sometimes with the original act they tribute. One notable example is Tim Ripper Owens who, once the singer of Judas Priest tribute band British Steel. From the Screen to Your Stereo is an EP by A New Found Glory released on 28 March 2000 by Drive-Thru Records. All the tracks are covers of songs from motion picture soundtracks, the album was pressed on 10 vinyl and released in three different colors, light marble blue, marble red, and white. The vinyl pressing featured a bonus track, in 2002, the album was released on a non-US split with the Japanese band Nicotine entitled Movie Addiction, where on this split, Nicotine also covered songs from movies. In 2007 the band released a follow up, this time an album titled From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II. MCA Records was an American-based record company owned by MCA Inc. which later gave way to the larger MCA Music Entertainment Group, of which MCA Records was still part. MCAs country division, MCA Nashville, is an active imprint of Universal Music Group Nashville. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger, as American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into the top film studio in town, producing hit after hit. In 1966, MCA formed Uni Records and in 1967 purchased Kapp Records which was placed under Uni Records management. In 1937, the owner of Decca, E. R. Lewis, chose to split off the U. K. Decca company from the U. S. company, companies if the emerging hostilities of Nazi Germany should lead to war – correctly foreseeing World War II. Lewis sold the remainder of his U. S. Decca holdings when war did break out, MCAs U. S. -based Decca Records kept the rights to the Decca name in North and South America and parts of Asia including Japan. U. K. Decca owned the rights to the Decca name in the rest of the world, after the war, British Decca formed a new U. S. subsidiary, London Records. During this time U. S. Decca issued records outside North America on the Brunswick, in 1967, Brunswick and Coral were replaced by the MCA label to release U. S. Decca and Kapp label material outside North America. Initial activity as MCA Records was based in London and MCA Records UK was formally launched on February 16,1968. Among the early artists on the MCA label, around 1971, were groups Wishbone Ash, Osibisa, Stackridge and Budgie, early MCA releases were distributed by U. K. Decca but it moved to EMI in 1974. In 1979, distribution moved to CBS, while the last releases in the 1980s were self-distributed, as the U. S. division of MCA Records was not established until 1972, the earliest U. K. MCA Records material was released in the U. S. on either Kapp or Decca, Uni label material was issued on the Uni label worldwide. In 1970, MCA reorganized its Canadian record company Compo Company Ltd. into MCA Records, in April 1970, former Warner Bros. Records president Mike Maitland joined MCA and initially served as Deccas general manager. Maitland was unsuccessful in his attempt to consolidate Warner Bros. Records with co-owned Atlantic Records which led to his departure from Warner, the three labels maintained their identities for a short time but were retired in favor of the MCA label in 1973. Drift Away by Dobie Gray became the final Decca pop label release in the U. S in 1973. Beginning the same year the catalogs of Decca, Uni and Kapp were reissued in the U. S. on the MCA label under the supervision of veteran Decca producer Milt Gabler. The first MCA Records release in the U. New Found Glory is the eponymous second studio album by American rock band of the same name. It was produced and mixed by Neal Avron and released on September 26,2000 through Drive-Thru Records, featuring their breakthrough single Hit or Miss, the album was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America with shipments of 500,000 units. During the bands American tour in late 2009, they announced a special edition re-release of the album to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the deluxe package included new liner notes, seven b-sides and a DVD. A commemorative tour also took place with the album played live in its entirety, the album has been credited for its impact and long lasting influence on pop punk music, and was officially inducted into the Rock Sound Hall of Fame in 2012. It was also placed in the magazines 101 Modern Classics article, following the underground success of debut album Nothing Gold Can Stay, Drive-Thru Records founder Richard Reines had paid Eulogy Recordings $5,000 to license the album and sign the band. Drive-Thru had initially wanted to re-release Nothing Gold Can Stay along with a recorded version of breakthrough single Hit or Miss. Chad Gilbert said of the process, So we went into the studio with Jerry Finn, I dont like how it came out, at all. He was such a guy, but we were like, nah. From then on, every band that worked with him expressed that Jerry Finn didnt like our band, the song was never used and the band decided to start work on a second album. The recording was included as a bonus track on the tenth anniversary edition of the album in 2010. Having met with producer Neal Avron, the two discussed the desired sound the band were striving for on the record. Avron said, During pre-production, wed get in their van for lunch and they wanted the music to be heavy, but the vocals to be super-pop, that was the goal. Steve Klein, the rhythm guitarist and lyricist, said of the writing, A lot of those songs pertained to my early relationships, my first love. Every record that we had is a timetable to my life and my wife can now look back and listen to my diaries as a teenager. During late 2009, the announced they were planning a commemorative tour in early 2010 to celebrate the albums tenth anniversary. A special edition re-release of the album was confirmed which featured seven bonus tracks, soon after in December 2009, AbsolutePunk officially announced the special anniversary edition of the album would be released on January 26,2010 through Geffen Records. The additional material includes new liner notes, demos, b-sides, The Story So Far DVD, the re-issue also included a slightly altered version of the original cover art designed by Tim Stedman. The Billboard 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States, published weekly by Billboard magazine. It is frequently used to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists, often, a recording act will be remembered by its number ones, those of their albums that outperformed all others during at least one week. The chart is based mostly on sales of albums in the United States, the weekly sales period was originally Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but since July 2015, tracking week begins on Friday and ends on Thursday. A new chart is published the following Tuesday with an issue post-dated to the Saturday of the following week, the charts streaming schedule is also tracked from Friday to Thursday. Example, Friday January 1 – sales tracking week begins Thursday January 7 – sales tracking week ends Tuesday January 12 – new chart published, New product is released to the American market on Fridays. Digital downloads of albums are included in Billboard 200 tabulation. Albums that are not licensed for sale in the United States are not eligible to chart. As of the issue dated April 15,2017, the album on the Billboard 200 is More Life by Drake. Billboard began an album chart in 1945, initially only five positions long, the album chart was not published on a weekly basis, sometimes three to seven weeks passing before it was updated. A biweekly, 15-position Best-Selling Popular Albums chart appeared in 1955, the position count varied anywhere from 10 to 30 albums. The first number-one album on the new weekly list was Belafonte by Harry Belafonte, the chart was renamed to Best-Selling Pop Albums later in 1956, and then to Best-Selling Pop LPs in 1957. Beginning on May 25,1959, Billboard split the ranking into two charts Best-Selling Stereophonic LPs for stereo albums and Best-Selling Monophonic LPs for mono albums and these were renamed to Stereo Action Charts and Mono Action Charts in 1960. In January 1961, they became Action Albums—Stereophonic and Action Albums—Monophonic, three months later, they became Top LPs—Stereo and Top LPs—Monaural. Kerrang. is a UK-based magazine devoted to rock music, currently published by Hamburg based Bauer Media Group. It was first published on 6 June 1981 as a supplement in the Sounds newspaper. In the early 2000s it became the best-selling British music newspaper, angus Young of AC/DC appeared on Kerrang. s first cover. Launched as a magazine, Kerrang. began to appear on a fortnightly basis later. The original owner was United Newspapers who then sold it to EMAP in 1991, during the 1980s and early 1990s the magazine placed many thrash and glam metal acts on the cover but later discarded them when grunge acts such as Nirvana rose to fame. Readers often criticise the magazine for repeating this process every time a new musical trend becomes popular, Kerrang. s popularity rose again with the hiring of editor Paul Rees circa 2000 when the nu metal genre, featuring bands like Limp Bizkit and Slipknot were becoming more popular. Rees went on to edit Q magazine and Ashley Bird took over as editor from 2003 to 2005, however the magazines sales went quickly into decline in 2003 and Paul Brannigan took over as editor in May 2005. Prior to this Metallicas James Hetfield referred to their sound as power metal, with the emergence of emo and metalcore, Kerrang. began to heavily feature this musical trend. However, the revamp was not welcomed by all readers and many complaints were received about Kerrang. s sudden emphasis on emo, Brannigan took the magazine into its most commercially successful period with a record ever ABC for the title of 80,186 copies. In 2008, EMAP sold its magazine to current owner Bauer Media Group. Brannigan left Kerrang. in 2009 and Nichola Browne was appointed editor and she later stepped down in April 2011. Former NME features editor and GamesMaster deputy editor James McMahon was appointed as editor on 6 June 2011, Kerrang. s website, www. kerrang. com, was launched in summer 2001 by Dan Silver. Kerrang. ’s parent company Emap acquired the name from a Norwegian cybersquatter by the name of Steingram Stegane for a token sum of £666. Kerrang. s website is dedicated to finding out information to do with the magazine and also the latest information on the current bands. The website hosts Kerrang. s online shop, podcasts, message board, TV and radio segments ensuring even more opportunities to sell associated merchandise, launched its own online forum with the rants and raves section taking up most of the traffic. Though initially extremely popular, the number of users began to peter out around 2005 with the number of people online dropping to as low as 10 when previously it had been closer to the 100 figure. According to Alexa www. kerrang. com generates 60,000 pageviews per month and is ranked 66, since 1993, the magazine has held an annual awards ceremony to mark the most successful bands in the interests of their readers. Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s and 2000s. In this instance, the word refers to the genres distinction from mainstream rock music. The terms original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their debt to either the musical style or simply the independent. Ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music, Alternative rock is a broad umbrella term consisting of music that differs greatly in terms of its sound, its social context, and its regional roots. Most of these subgenres had achieved minor mainstream notice and a few bands representing them, such as Hüsker Dü, with the breakthrough of Nirvana and the popularity of the grunge and Britpop movements in the 1990s, alternative rock entered the musical mainstream and many alternative bands became successful. By the end of the decade, alternative rocks mainstream prominence declined due to a number of events that caused grunge and Britpop to fade, emo attracted attention in the larger alternative rock world, and the term was applied to a variety of artists, including multi-platinum acts. Post-punk revival artists such as Modest Mouse and The Killers had commercial success in the early, before the term alternative rock came into common usage around 1990, the sort of music to which it refers was known by a variety of terms. In 1979, Terry Tolkin used the term Alternative Music to describe the groups he was writing about, in 1979 Dallas radio station KZEW had a late night new wave show entitled Rock and Roll Alternative. College rock was used in the United States to describe the music during the 1980s due to its links to the radio circuit. In the United Kingdom, dozens of small do it yourself record labels emerged as a result of the punk subculture, according to the founder of one of these labels, Cherry Red, NME and Sounds magazines published charts based on small record stores called Alternative Charts. The first national chart based on distribution called the Indie Chart was published in January 1980, at the time, the term indie was used literally to describe independently distributed records. By 1985, indie had come to mean a particular genre, or group of subgenres, at first the term referred to intentionally non–mainstream rock acts that were not influenced by heavy metal ballads, rarefied new wave and high-energy dance anthems. The use of alternative gained further exposure due to the success of Lollapalooza, for which festival founder, in the late 1990s, the definition again became more specific. Defining music as alternative is often difficult because of two conflicting applications of the word, the name alternative rock essentially serves as an umbrella term for underground music that has emerged in the wake of punk rock since the mid-1980s. Alternative bands during the 1980s generally played in clubs, recorded for indie labels. Sounds range from the gloomy soundscapes of gothic rock to the guitars of indie pop to the dirty guitars of grunge to the 1960s/1970s revivalism of Britpop. This approach to lyrics developed as a reflection of the social and economic strains in the United States and United Kingdom of the 1980s, by 1984, a majority of groups signed to independent record labels mined from a variety of rock and particularly 1960s rock influences.
